'Grandmum?' Hetienne called, poking around the area surrounding the teepee of the human that her family her was friendly with. There was no immediate friendly call in return, nor any sound of a approaching hooves, and Hetienne swished her tail, chewing on her lower lip thoughtfully as she wondered where Adrienne was. Should she hang around in case her grandmother turn up shortly? she mused to herself, after grabbing a mouthful of the dried grass that the human kept in storage for her Soquili friends.
When she had finally finished chewing on it, Adrienne still hadn't shown up and Hetienne was a little bored of waiting. It wasn't completely urgent that she speak to her Grandmother but it would have been nice if she was here. With only a slightly put-upon look on her face, the mare wheeled around and trotted off, heading away from her home and out for a stroll. There was a chance she'd just run across Adrienne when she was out and about, so with that thought in mind she put a skip in her hoof-step and headed for the nearest body of water as she kind of fancied a quick dip to get rid of the grass stains on her legs from the last time she'd rolled in the grass.
The loose waves of her tail flicked behind her as she trotted onwards, mane occasionally caught by an errant breeze. It was a pleasant day, not overly warm, just a nice, early summers day. As she travelled further, she caught the distant scent of water and damp mud, and adjusted her path as she realised she had been going a little astray. Soon enough she was at the lakes edge, and she looked out across the water, the ground beneath her hooves becoming springy as she got closer to the edge. She took a drink first, swishing the water around her mouth and then moved further along to where the bank had an easier incline to walk down, doing so until the water was around her knees and the end of her tail was floating behind her.
She spent some time swishing the water around her legs, occasionally lifting on and rubbing at the fading green with her lips or nose, and then when her legs and head were both soaked, she headed slowly back to the bank, watching the ripples spreading out around her as she did so..

For a long time now, Duer's life had been defined by what he didn't deserve. He didn't deserve C.J., she'd made that clear to him and now it echoed through the rest of his life. Denying himself food, water, and sleep had all become second nature to him. A few months had passed that way and he was beginning to think that he would never shake that terrible feeling in his gut. He was beginning to think that he didn't deserve too.
But, time heals all wounds, and this particular wound would be healed after a long walk through a field of little blue flowers. It hadn't been the beautiful, sprawling view that had shaken him out of his funk. Once upon a time it may have exited him to find such a gorgeous valley, but now? No, all that had been reduced to just another field he was trudging through. The sudden shock of laughter didn't hit him until he reached the far side of the field. There lay a large, flat rock, still intact despite the centuries of wear it must have endured in order to simply remain there in one piece. Intact, that is, except for a dirt packed crack that had formed down the middle half of the stone. There, growing out of that crack, was one, single miserable flower.
Duer laughed, and trotted over to it, "Well this is no place for a little flower to be living. Why aren't you living over there with all your friends?" he asked, gesturing to the field as if the flower could process any of this. "Somehow, do you think that this is better for you? I think we could do better than this if we put our minds to it."
He'd left the flower then, and went to find a raccoon who could weave him a basket tight enough to hold some dirt. During this time he'd largely forgotten about his moping. Strangely, his mind had fixated on that tiny blue flower. It had to be moved. When he returned to it the poor thing had nearly entirely wilted. Transplanting it was risky, but he took the chance, pulling it out from it's crack and tucking it into the soft soil in the basket. Then, he had brought the basket to a nearby pool where he left it and went to go graze. By the time he returned the flower had already perked up noticably. Smiling, he picked up the basket by it's handle and started out on once again on his journey.
It was this little plant, now having grown full foilage and many blooms under the stallion's care, that Duer carried with him when he approached the pool where Hetienne was bathing. His intent had been to simply water the flower, the soil in it's basket had started to dry to a crack. But when he spotted her in the water he paused to watch. When was the last time he'd stopped to talk with another living creature? Was it really the basket weaving raccoon?

Hetienne had almost left the water when she caught sight of the approaching stallion. It did caused her to pause for a moment, but a second glance and she realised he was carrying a basket, which wasn't exactly the most menacing thing a stranger could be travelling with. So she shook her mane out, spraying drops onto the water surface and continued walking, giving him a tentative smile as she climbed the bank, giving a little shake of her body this time as she did so.
'Hello.' she said, feeling it wasn't exactly the most original thing, but it was a greeting, and wasn't that what one did? She took time to look him over a little slower this time, liking his striking and pale blue eyes, and...well, his was handsome entirely, definately easy on the eye. Eventually she saw that the basket actually had something inside, a small flowering plant.
'Do you always carry that?' she asked, curiosity piqued as it was the first time she could recall seeing any walking around with a flower in a basket.

He nodded, then started kicking out small hole in the mud on the bank. Then he used the indent to hold the basket, keep it stable and in place despite the water lapping gently around it. Setting the basket in water like this allowed the soil to soak up as much water as it desired, without washing too much of the soil out of the basket's holes.
"Hello," now that the basket's handle was out of his mouth and he could speak, the regular greeting seemed like the right thing to do. "And yes, this little fellow has been my only companion for some time now. He isn't terribly good at keeping up a conversation, but he listens well. Sometimes a good pair of ears is all someone needs." He smiled down at the little flower. It really had seen him through some rough times. "I am very sorry if I intruded on your bath, miss. My friend was getting thirsty, and this is the first water we've come upon for a while now."
