"Not far." He told himself, humming between breaths. He liked humming very much, it reminded him of when he was a wee pup and his mother would lull him asleep with her sad but beautiful voice. He did not quite inherit her good vocal chords and when Nuru did every so often brust into an uncontainable song, he was prominently smacked on the head by his fellow hyenas nearby. Only this far out no one lurked except the occasional other hunter. But only Nuru was idiot enough to wander so desperately near the pridelands border. "Ow." He attempted to rub the bump that would be forming briskly as he marched. Earily that day a hyena had taken the biggest bone he could find and- whack! Now Nuru's head throbbed in constant pain. He ignored this and pressed on, determined to find what he was looking for.
It was at the very borders of their lands that a tree, very, very dead had began to signal life was in a mad effort to overtake it. The dry and peeling bark now ooze with a golden trail of liquid, and up high in the air where the sky reeked of foul decay a sweet and memorizing scent mingled with it. "Honey bees." He reminded himself, careful as he walked. If he startled them not only his head would hurt, but he'd come back with a rather swollen face from being stung.
