Things were beginning to wind down. Many had already egressed from Neued, making their way into the safer reaches of the jungle or to their far-off homes. Skirmishes and salvaging still occurred, and so there continued to be injured and dead.

But, for the most part, things were starting to quiet, and Biroki knew that he would not be able to put off returning home for very long. His skills would be needed there too, regardless of his personal issues. It wasn't that he didn't want to be with his family, it was just that facing Zuri would be daunting - he just wanted to delay it, that was all.

For now though, he still had chores to do here in Neued. He looked around, seeking a familiar, slight figure among the healing tents. He needed to find Antiope and talk to her: Mostly about work - supplies, healers, that sort of thing. But he also wanted her advice for more general and personal things. And, maybe, just a little of that cheerful energy the young shifter leader seemed to have...

Antiope stood among the other healers and helping hands that had hung around after the first battle had ended, her hands moving swiftly to point out directions and touch a shoulder here and there. The people's morale was shot, that was for sure, and Antiope tried to keep her usual energetic face to keep those around her going. Her brow furrowed occasionally as she saw those mourning for their lost family and friends, knowing that this was hard on everyone, not just those that were in the battle.

Before too long everyone had something to do and Antiope was left to herself. She brushed her hair out of her face and leaned against one of the nearby crates, ready to take a break after the mess that this day had been.

She was distinctive, if diminutive. She stood out in a crowd, but was easily overshadowed by them. She was younger than he, but wiser and more powerful. Biroki had always wondered at the shifter leader's contradictions. He noticed her over by the supply crates and brightened.

"Antiope!" he called, waving, "I was l-looking for you. I wanted to talk to you..." he said, smiling as he walked over. It hadn't been a particularly good day, and it was a tired smile, but it was hard not to think about smiling around her. She was just so energetic that it was infectious.

But even she looked tired. He hesitated, his smile slightly embarrassed. If she was on a break, perhaps he shouldn't talk to her. She needed rest just as everybody else did, and they needed her. "I-I mean its not urgent or anything, I can come back later." he amended.

After the crowd around her had left and she had taken a few breaths from the responsibility of being a leader, Antiope sat herself on top of the crate she had leaned on. She was still looking down when she heard her voice being called. It was that one boy... the mage. Biroki - or at least that's what she thought his name was. It had been a while, that was for sure. And with all that had happened it was hard to keep things straight.

She waved back, her smile returning to her face. The tired still showed through in her eyes, but from the looks of Biroki it didn't look like more work. She could scrounge up a few minutes to talk to a friend. "Hello there Biroki. Long time, no see." She leaned forward where she was sitting, resting on her palms. "I'm free for now. What's up?" She asked the young sage.

"To be honest... Too much." he said wanly, leaning against the crates, "Its.. its like things just keep happening." He rubbed his hand across his eyes and through his dense hair and sighed.

Suddenly, he really, really didn't want to talk or think about work, even though it loomed like an ominous alkidike and was incredibly pressing and important. He just wanted to... talk. Fortunately, there were lots of things he wanted to talk to Antiope about, including something that had bugged him for a while now.

"So, um, before anything else happens, I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am for... Uh... Helping me. All those times. Especially with..." he bit his lip, "That man. I really appreciate you stopping me before I..." lost control and really killed him like he had killed the others. "... yeah." I just never got a chance to say thank you so... I just wanted to... get that out." he smiled a bit more widely. "Thank you."
