Harland Leander Belle was wandering the basement corridors, holding what looked like a cardboard box. It was definitely a cardboard box. Some bits of a Maidenhair fern peeked out over the sides, and the box smelled faintly minty. On top of that, it also contained Rex begonias currently not in bloom, but those neither smelled nor peeked over the edges so no one but Harland was any the wiser.

He had an experiment he really wanted to run, but he wasn't keen on sneaking into an unoccupied room. At the rate these dorms were filling, who knew what would happen to the plants if a new occupant took over suddenly? And he didn't want to make Lilac try it out; it might be a lot of work for no reward. No matter how much research he'd done, it seemed iffy whether or not even these plants could survive, and getting a grow light had been nearly impossible, much less two of them.

So he just needed to find someone who looked potentially amenable to the experiment. A little shy, the first person the Irish-American cowboy came across was Harlow, whom he'd never met. "Pardon me for intrudin'', a chailĂn," he greeted her, shifting the box to one hand and reaching up to tip an invisible hat (his cowboy hat was around his neck), "Name's Harland Leander Belle. Death Division, Connemara born and largely raised. I've got a bit of a dilemma, and I was wonderin' if ye might be amenable to plants and their ilk?"

He hoped this wasn't a very weird question. He smiled, a faint blush already creeping across his cheeks. He tried very hard not to tongue the inside of his labret.

If there was one thing that Harlow could say about her time in the Deus so far was that it was interesting. Everyone was keeping her on her toes that was for sure. First she had to get used to the early mornings and the schedules that she had to get used to, next her room was broken into and now she was at the point that she wasn't going to be surprised with whatever was going to come her way next.

She had opened her door to look at the boy that was currently standing at her door. She shifted her weight as she leaned against her door way as the boy started to talk. She arched her brow a little as she looked at the box, she was staring trying to figure out what it was. But she took a few minutes trying to think and figure out what was in the box. She almost didn't even notice his accent at first. It was an interesting one, intriguing honestly. She honestly had never heard one like that before. She smiled a little before motioning for him to come in.

He was asking her about keeping plants? She wasn't sure if that was going to top the odd things that she was going to have happen here. She arched her brow a little and then laughed. "Why not!" She motioned for him to come into her room. She was hoping that he would find some where because she wasn't exactly sure where to suggest putting the collection of plants (She was assuming that was what was in the box at this point.) "I guess you could put them wherever... beside my bed of course." She laughed a little, it was a lame 'joke' but she was awkward and pretty lame anyway most of the time so that was okay. "Oh, I'm Harlow Rowan, Mist Division. I'm from Alaska." She was a lot less... formal about her introduction. Where she came from almost everyone knew each other so of course introducing herself to all of these other people she was having just a generally hard time really knowing what to say to anyone.

Harland hadn't really meant to invite himself in, he'd really expected to just find someone wandering around the halls to ask-- oh well, too late now. "Sorry, again, for th' intrusion," he said, shaking his head, sunny waves of hair falling into his face so he had to blow them out of the way while the box of plants and such was in his arms.

"Harlow Rowan, pleased t' meet ye. Alaska, huh? Long way off from me," he said, with a smile.

"So here's what's goin' on... my best friend is stuck down here an' I think I've come up with a way to make her room seem less've a jail cell an' more of a place where people live. People who don't want t' die," he said, wrinkling his nose. These rooms were so much like a place for someone who had no hope of living longer than a month.

"If you're willin' t' set this little garden of sorts up in your room an' keep it from dyin', ye can keep it after if ye want it. I can come water th' plants when it's convenient if ye canae be bothered."

Harlow nodded in acknowledgment to his apology, "don't mind at all." Harlow enjoyed company so she really didn't mind it one bit, she had been trying her best to make friends whenever she could but she was just having a hard time meeting and talking to people, being new somewhere was pretty hard most of the time.

"It is pretty depressing in here." She agreed putting her hand on the way, it was dark and damp some times and most of all dark. She seriously hated all of that, it was starting to drive her nuts, she was handling it and she was making her room feel like home but it could use something to make it a little... sad.

She leaned against her door frame as she looked at him thinking about what he was talking about. She wasn't exactly opposed to it but she was confused about one thing. "What about your friend's room? Or do you want to share the green wealth?" She offered a small smile and nod to him, she crossed one of her arms over her chest grabbing her other arm with it. "I mean, I don't mind at all. Just curious." She wanted to make sure that he wasn't offended by her question. She walked over to her desk and made some room on it pushing some stuff to side. She motioned for him to put the box down there wanting him to not have to carry it any longer. She wasn't sure if it was heavy but she imagined it would be. "I could take care of them but some help would be really appreciated." She grinned before laughing a little. "I'm not much of a green thumb, lack of good weather in Alaska and all." She laughed once again offering him a smile.

"I can get more, on my next trip out," he said, beaming. He was visibly relieved that she was neither offended by the request nor rejecting it. Harland was honestly very happy to spread the cheer that plants might offer, and hopefully they'd do wonders for the quality of air down here, too. It was more than a little musty.

"So it's no trouble t' let ye keep this experiment; I can get Lilac some new plants," he explained, with a new smile.

He also didn't mind at all helping take care of them. He held out one hand. "To seal the deal, let's shake on it? I'll give ye my number, an' we can be friends from now on," Harland offered, as though it was that simple.

To him, it was.

]color=lightseagreen]"Sounds great to me!" She grinned a little, she was kind of hoping that maybe she would also meet whoever this Lilac was, she had a pretty name. She looked over the box and the plants falling out of them. She really hoped that she wasn't going to kill them. She also really liked the idea of improving it down here because some times it was really a little too much.

She paused and then looked at his extended hand. She smiled and then grabbed his hand and gave it a solid shake. "Sounds great to me!" Being friends with some one taht quickly was a little odd to her but she was just going to go with it. This Harland guy seemed pretty cool! She didn't see why not! She paused and looked the box. "Maybe we could get these a little set up before we exchange numbers." She offered, she wasn't sure if she would set it up a certain way... she was pretty clueless when it came to plants.

Harland would be more than happy to introduce the two girls, and was probably already thinking about telling Lilac about Harlow as soon as he texted her later today. As far as he was concerned, they could all use as many friends and allies as possible. Maybe that was Harland's death-division thirst for threads, connections and information. Who knew.

Harland's grip was firm, but hardly crushing. He nodded, in regards to setting the plants up: "It's intentionally easy," Harland said. "Do ye have a shelf spare, shall I build one, or is there somewhere else ye'd like the plants?" he asked.

He had a good handshake, that was something consistent for everyone that she had met so far at the Deus. It was important to her, it was something that her father taught her while she was growing up handshakes were important. Everyone here had a firm handshake. She looked up at him and then to the plants and make a small face trying to figure out the situation with the shelves. She put her hand on her hip and then tapped her foot.

"Hmmm." Her brows furrowed and she looked around the room before turning to Harland and then she flashed him a grin. "Give me two seconds!" And with that she was out of the room and heading down the hall.

A few minutes later she was making her way back toward the room but she was carrying something. She returned carrying a metal shelf, it was a wire rack, lifted about two fee off of the ground. "I don't know if anyone wanted it but it was pretty much abandoned by the stairs, I'm assuming that no one wants it." She shrugged and placed it at the end of the desk, it sat pretty nicely on there. She thought that it was going to do good at holding the plants. "If that isn't enough room you can put some underneath it on the desk too." She looked back at him, she didn't want to get in the way.

It was probably unsurprising that most of the Hunters had the kind of forceful personality required for a good handshake. Or, at least, a firmness of being that made them want to establish themselves through such a gesture. Who knew? Harland had always shook hands like that, probably thanks to the influence of his own father. Wherever he was now.

"Two seconds it is," Harland nodded.

When she returned, she had a bunch of things that would probably help. "Sound enough thinkin'," Harland agreed, beaming; he was clearly pleased with her ressourcefulness. "That's probably more than enough room, wouldnae dream of takin' up more of your space," Harland said. "Though I'm hopin' these plants'll flourish an' lend a sort of... living feelin' to the drab dungeons," Harland said, with a wry smile. He set to work right away, and it didn't take him long. He brushed his dirty hands off on his jeans, and straightened, taking his bandanna off his neck to gently mop his forehead before tucking it into his back pocket.

"Go raibh maith agat," Harland thanked her, "it's an expression of thankfulness," he also explained. "I'll be on my way t' get cleaned up now, but my number's on a card next t' the plants in case ye need a reference. Feel free t' text anytime, an' maybe we can set up a time for me to come back an' observe 'em," he said, gesturing to the plants with a nod of his head.

"I appreciate it more 'n you'll know," he said, with one of his characteristically sunny smiles. He waited to see if she had anything to add, before he made his escape.
