I have a question for you all...

What do you think of SPEW?

Do you think it is stupid, or do you think it is a good cause?

I think that the whole SPEW thing is kind of weird. I think it's good that Hermione's trying to stand up for the rights of the house elves but if they're happy the way they are why can't she just leave them alone instead of harrassing them?

I think that the cause is a little too PETA-ish for my tastes, and that the SPEW scenes in the book are irritating. As I've said elsewhere, I prefer Hermione when she isn't on a soapbox.

It's a good cause in general, but the House Elves are happy. It's good for the wierdo's like Dobby, and people should treat their houseelves better, but other wise it's quite pointless.

I agree. If the house-elves WANT to be free, like Dobby, then SPEW is a good cause to pursue. However, MOST of them don't want to be free, so it's pretty much pointless on Hermione's part. However, I think J.K. Rowling was wise to put SPEW in the books because it adds to Hermione's character and her determination to help others. I think she is a great person, even though she is a bit bossy at times. That's why she is my favorite character. (Sorry if I got off-topic...) sweatdrop

Her heart's in the right place, even if her head isn't. Yes, they are PETA-esque, but I do think that someone in the magical would should stand up for the non-human folks.

I would like it more if the house elves were miserable and treated the way Lucius Malfoy treated Dobby but they arent so it's kinda pointless...

-reads everyone's replies-

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks the whole SPEW thing is a bit crazy. xP

Nope, do not want to join SPEW. Heromine is just as close-minded as the people as she is trying to convince. She claims that other people don't see that having house elves as slaves is wrong. That is true, to a certain degree. However, if I was there and she tried to get me to join SPEW. I would tell Heromine that her strategy is not working. She should trying getting the opinions of a reasonable amount of house elves' opinions first. Because that is the truth, her ideas or other people's ideas are not. Because if the elves' opinions doesn't support her opinion and cause, than there is absolutely no point.

I laughed so hard at this. My best friends mom is PTA president. She does push a bit hard though.

This made me so mad but after a moment it clicked. I thought you were saying you wanted them to be treated that way.
