This RP is between Bloody Mary Spector (Bardess Ookami) and Xanatos Serdear (Divena & DivenasMom)

His mother's words echoed round and round in his head, a cycle of fury feeding itself. He wasn’t as good as his sisters. He wasn’t as fast, as smart, as vicious. The young skinwalker hissed quietly to himself as he paced angerly. The latest blistering lecture had come when his mother had discovered him spying on a herd nearby. He had tried to protest, to tell her that he was stalking his prey. But Mother was a shrewed mare, the old hag. She had seen him watching the foals with curiosity. CURIOSITY! Not hunger. He couldn’t lie his way out of the punishment. She didn’t believe a word he’d told her.

And what was wrong with being curious about other foals his age? Oh, sure, they didn’t look like him. Their tails were different, and they smelled yummy. He knew they were food. But they had been doing something… something strange… He would have called their romping around play except none of them were bleeding. He would have smelled the delicious scent of blood if any of them had been hurt. But no… there had been wrestling and romping and shrieking, but none of it was pained or fearful. So he had watched them, wondering what they were doing. He still didn’t. Mother had found him and dragged him off, thrashing him with her tongue and claws.

He still wasn’t sure which was worse.

User ImageMary spied the brooding foal and found a small bloody smile forming on her face. She recalled vaguely another foal... another child she was shaping, but that foal was grown now, and Mary... well if she wanted to find her, she was sure she could. There was nothing a God could not do if she wanted to do it. But now there was this foal... she could raise this foal up, make a God of him. Oh he might be stuck as a foal forever, as Gods do not age as mortals do, but it would be a small price to pay. And he might even emerge as an adult as well as a god. She smiled more and nodded to her disciple, who scampered off. She swing the mirror around in front of the foal as she crept up behind, so that she would be seen over his shoulder...

So focused on his own thoughts, Xanatos didn’t notice the mirror until he walked head first into it. He stumbled back a couple steps and hissed before realizing what he was staring at.

She smiled from his reflection. "Hello, my child," she crooned. "Are you ready to gain the powers you were born to have." Well, if he was born to have the powers, he would. If not he would die, and the world would have one less weak pathetic mortal.

He spun to face her with a growl, his ears flattening against his head. Who was this creature to say such things to him? Did she not realize what he was? He was a skinwalker! A fierce and powerful predator! Did she think that just because he was young and small that he was weak? The arrogance! The idiocy! He would teach her the error of her ways! He growled again for good measure.

Mary laughed, scoffing at the anger in this little one. To think he could confront a God. Well, for a mortal he certainly had nerve, she had to give him that. Yes, he would make a find God once he was reborn to his glorious dark powers. A fine god indeed. She smiled at him, only half aware that it was far from a pleasant smile to behold. "Is that then a yes, my child?" she asked, her voice a delightful dark croon, as a God's voice should be. "Shall we set about digging your grave, then?"

Digging a grave? A grave for what? For who? Then her words fully sank in and he stared at her. Did this female think that she was going to bury him? No... nothing she was saying was making sense. He considered asking, and could almost hear his mother's voice lecturing him in the back of his head. She told him never to speak to strangers. Never trust what they said. Only she could be trusted.

Annoyance and rebellion swelled up inside him at his mother's constant manipulations and controlling nature. He scowled at this new mare and, deliberately ignoring his mother's voice, "What are you talking about?" he demanded.

Mary smiled a dark and evil smile. She thought it was a warm and comforting smile. "Your grave, my child," she said, nearly purring at him. "Once you have passed the trial of the earth, you will be well on the road to your true potential. Trust in me, trust in the Dark Goddess."

Dark… Goddess…. What? For a moment, he could only stare at the mare in utter bafflement. Did she…. She really thought she was going to bury him. Him! Xanatos! Okay, fine, she was bigger than he was, and older, but where were her claws? Her fangs? How did she expect to keep him in the grave? This had to be a joke. Or a test. Yes, it must be a test. He glanced around with narrowed eyes, looking for his mother. It wouldn’t be the first time Kali had arranged for some bizarre situation to see how he would react.

Mary leaned her face closer to his as he looked around. "If you wish," she whispered in his ear, "you could even help...dig your own grave..." she pulled back her head slowly with a n** to the top of the ear she had been whispering in. "Taphos! It is time, my disciple!"

The small bloody raccoon emerged from the bushes and began digging rapidly.

"Be honored, my child," Mary crooned to the small soq. "Few people get to survive this experience."

He growled and hissed when she bit him, but his attention was quickly captured by the raccoon. He knew what it was doing. The crazy mare had been pretty obvious about that. It was digging a hole to try and bury him in. But that didn’t bother him. No, what captured his attention was the fact that the creature was just the right size for a lovely little snack. He half growled, half purred as he ignored the mare and crouched low, watching the raccoon. It was clearly distracted with its task, probably feeling safe in the company of its partner. He tensed and then pounced, claws out and ready to shred the raccoon to ribbons. He always had been a messy eater, it was something his mother had encouraged rather than tried to beat out of him.

As he lunged, the mirror swung to intercept him, knocking him off course. "I know you are eager," Mary crooned, "but you need to dig in your own area, not on top of Taphos. We wouldn't want anything to happen to Taphos, now would we?" there was a definite purr of threat in her croon this time, and a fury in her eyes.

For the second time, he smacked head first into that blasted mirror. He snarled at it then turned a hiss onto the mare. Was she really that stupid, or was she just trying to manipulate him? He couldn’t quite tell, though he should have been a master of recognizing manipulation, what with his mother manipulating him his entire life. But then again, he still hadn’t recognized what she was doing. He didn’t mistake her attentions for affection. He wasn’t that dense. He growled at Mary again, “I don’t want to dig,” he snarled, baring his claws just as he bared his fangs. “I’ll eat it.” And with that, he tried to duck around her to get at the raccoon again.

And again he brought her mirror around to block him. A sharp shift of her head ordered the racoon to hide in the bushes. Taphos didn't hesitate to obey. Mary looked down her long equine nose at the foal. "You are to predictable, and perhaps even too... plain. Perhaps I was hasty in offering this opportunity to you. You seem too weak, too pathetic," she crooned, "to truly appreciate the chance to become powerful, to become strong. I thought I had seen in you that desire, a spark of inner strength. A Goddess is of course, never wrong; That spark is there, but perhaps I simply saw too far ahead. Came to you too soon. Perhaps you are too young to accept the strength to be lorded over by none, to be a God yourself, ruling over those who would hurt your mortal persona."

She leaned in to n** an ear. "Perhaps, perhaps I shall return when you are older, wiser, ready. Should you live that long."

She turned and sauntered away. Would he follow? Would he pass that test? She heard a chattering above, Taphos was safe in the trees. so the little mortal could cower, could flee... or could join her. What would he choose?

He hissed and started to go after her, to slice the mare open as he had been taught. But a sound brought him up short. He could hear Kali calling his name. He could ignore her and pursue his own pleasures, like he wanted. Or he could go when he was called. If he ignored her, she would find him and punish him. He growled softly and turned away from the stranger and toward the female skinwalker. The moment of freedom was not worth the pain that would follow.
