The Swamp was warm today, muggy and wet with the heat, air curling thickly in Through the Flesh's lungs. The sound of singing filled her ears even as the rush of blood and death, and every little sound of echoed in her skull, bouncing off brittle plates to create the rattling music of death (and life and death and death and death). She lay very still, pressed against the moist earth, hair tangled in the mud, eyes staring out into a void only she could see. She was so still it almost seemed that she wasn't breathing.
The little bird laying by her head, singing it's song colored in pain and laced in blood, shivered helplessly. She lay there because she could feel it dead, as clearly as she herself was dead and already returned to all things, could feel the bird, herself, the clouds, the flowers, the trees, all dead, all together, all the same. And when she closed her eyes, she was in everything, all at once, hearing and seeing the Everything that is and was and always would be.
So she lay there, smelling the sour-sweet smell of the bird's blood going rancid in the sun, letting it become a part of her as it always was and was meant to be.

Kiss of Death could feel the humidity rise on such a warm sunny day. Her hide felt damp, like wet raindrops had clung on without leaving her side at all. Strands of her hair had begun to stick together as if held by something invisible.
As ignorant as she will ever be, somehow to her, there was always time to stop and stare at the birds. The dellightful chirps were heard as it echoed through certain parts of the swamp. Death licked her lips as she sought one out. Bold in colour with the biggest breast of the bunch. She chased it down, teeth snapping continously, but ended up with nothing but air as the prey flew away. "Pffftt. Too livelly, that one," she muttered, blaming the bird for her failure.
The doe kept making her way through the swamp and had chosen a path that eventually lead to a pond. Following it, she wondered if there are freshly hatched caiman hidden in the mud. She scanned the area while she prodded into the dirt with her front hoof. Not too far from where she was standing, she heard a depressing tune being sung. When she spotted the owner of the song in the mud, she made her way on over. Easy prey she thought, as the bird was injured, but what threw her off were the red markings on another meti's back. Is she dying too? The doe was half immersed into the wet soil, barely breathing.
Death laid down before her for a moment as she stared at the bird and back at the doe. "Are you going to eat that?" she asked. "Or do you rather lay there and play dead?"
Amorpheous Capacity for Death is stunning to look at! They should meet one day and befriend one another. How about after prompt event or for the next prompt? OAO;;

Kiss of Death's words did not seem to register with Through the Flesh. Her eyes drifted in and out of focus as if she were slipping in and out of consciousness, in and out of death and death. Finally, it seemed the words had filtered its way through the haze of everything that filled her mind to register as a question.
She did not lift her head, merely shifting her golden gaze to meet the other doe's before drifting away, here and there, seeing much more than what was physically there. She had felt the doe before seeing her, had felt the inclusion of her presence without really seeing her as any different from the rest of the Swamp that had already filled her senses.
It was a while longer before she spoke. When she did, she smiled, faint and cryptic, seemingly unbothered by anything, "Aren't we all already dead?"
She didn't answer the doe's other question, perhaps she hadn't quite registered the idea, but it was clear that she had been laying there for a while and had yet to eat it.FrostyPeaches Sure! Let's see what the next prompt is or we can engineer a way for them to meet!

Death had a feeling that something was off. The doe on the ground had gazed at her for only a brief moment and it felt strange to her. Could it be that the doe's brain is processing slower than usual? Deep in her own thoughts at trying to understand Flesh a litlle better, Death had decided to stay beside the strange doe anyway. It didn't seem like she would get up anytime soon. A quick glance over the doe's head at the bird, she saw that it was slowly bleeding every drop of blood out of its body. The mud around it had already turned a rusty red colour. Its shrills of sorrow seemed to come out between heavy breaths now. She was not good at sharing with others but it seemed like the strange doe could use some nutrition in her body... With a sigh, she replied. "Yess. We are already dying the minute we were born.. Just like that bird... Only its death came sooner..." Death lifted her front leg and prodded the doe with her muddy hoof. Again, she repeated the question. "Are you going to eat that?" Amorpheous Okay (: what a wonderful plan. -waits curiously- Sorry for requote. Had to fix spelling error, was bothering me.

Again, it seemed to not register to the doe that she was being interacted with. It all reached her like waves, having to set itself apart from all she could see and hear as something that needed her to react and respond. When she got caught up in the indistinguishable, the same, the one, she often drifted away from the reality that all other kin saw, the one that she must forcibly pull herself into. It was so static in comparison to what she could know when she listened hard enough and when she looked far enough.
Finally she shook her head minutely, in answer to both questions. "You are there on the ground too, and in the ground, in the trees, in the mud, everything, everywhere, you and I are the same, dead alive dead alive, the same. You are dead and you are dying and it is no sooner or later than any other."
And perhaps the other doe could believe that death ended absolutely, but Through the Flesh could see so far beyond it, could feel it with so much certainty, that she was not afforded that comfort.
Then she smiled, the expression painting her face with compassion which looked almost like tragedy as she lay there in the mud. With a slow blink, she lifted her head, turned the bird, and, with one seeing-unseeing gaze, pressed her nose against it's neck, harder, down down down, for a long unbreathing pause until it stilled.
Nothing had changed at all.

At this moment she observed the doe carefully. Her breathing was slower than normal. Her movements were slower than normal. Most things about her, was not normal. This time, it was her turn to shake her head. "Am I dying? Yes, very very slowly as time goes on. Maybe when old age hits me. Am I dead? No. For if I were I would not have had the opportunity to run into you." a bit confused about the second part of her answer, she still went on. "You and I clearly are not the same. Whatever you're seeing or feeling right now, I don't see or feel the same. What I see is a delicious meal beside you, and if you're not making a move to eat it... Then I will..." She paused when the doe lifted her head. At least she knew the doe was not dying. The sight of the killing lead her to believe that she still had the ability to end another's life without questioning. Death let out a chuckle. "You are quite a something. Never would I have thought that you'd end its life with such a slow death.." She was not sure what to make of the doe that smiled at her from down in the mud. Perhaps when it's her turn to die she would leave this place with a smile, she thought.

A pause, a look up, slow and considering, and then back down to the ground.
"Nothing has changed at all," Through the Flesh said, quiet and easy, as she looked down at the bird laying the mud. She declared, slowly, since voice was nothing but perception anyways, "It is as dead as it ever was."
"You feel it and see it as surely as I do, you simply do not comprehend it beyond everything else that you have seen and heard since you have been aware that you could see and here," she closed her eyes, returning her head back to the mud. "Nothing ever changes except awareness, and even then, it is not so much a change but a discovery."
Her breathing quickened though and she seemed more of the world that Kiss of Death was in than the one she had been inhabiting before. Still, she could never quite pull herself completely out of that level of awareness. "Eat it or not, it is already in you and you are already in it, just as everything ever is."

She nodded at the strange doe as she looked up. "Things have changed, dear. Look at the bird. It was once breathing and is now dead. You killed it." Death got up and prodded the doe again with her muddy hoof. Refusing to let her rest in the mud and rest her eyes. "Being aware of the surrounding is just animal instincts to look around." She walked over to the dead bird, stepped onto its breast with one firm hoof, and ripped a wing off of its body with her jaws. "If you were more aware of my presence, you would have prevented me from taking this piece of bird wing to myself." Slowly she started to grind the meat in her mouth, enjoying the fresh warm taste of flesh with a hint of bloody bitterness, and occasionally spitting out tufts of feathers. "When are you going to get up and eat?" Amorpheous Lol i think we are done with this one? xD If she's not getting up Kiss is going to run away with the bird XD

She shook her head slowly against the mud, smiling far away and distant, but smiling nonetheless. She did not seem to mind that the other doe didn't see it the same way she did, saying simply, eyes opening just a crack, "That is only ephemeral and fleeting. What is really there is still there, as it always has been. Breath does not change it at all."
She looked at the bird, eyes just thin slits of gold against the dark markings around her eyes. The smile never disappeared, only growing more and more distant as if she were slipping away into another realm. Then finally, she got up, mud clinging to her side and her hair, and walked away.
Still, nothing changed. Nothing ever changed, not in the ways that truly mattered.FrostyPeaches That's it for Through the Flesh! Kiss of Death can wrap it up and finish off the bird if you like~

Death watched the doe smiling at no one in particular. Her eyes seemed to have wandered into another state of mind. She finished devouring what was left of the wing and licked her lips. "Does that mean you believe in rebirth?" she asked the doe who clearly was not really paying attention to her anymore. She saw her get up and about to walk away as she turned in the opposite direction. Death wanted to stop her but was rather confused and frustrated that she was not able to speak to her in the same state she was in. Knowing that it was futile to try and reason with her again, she stopped midway in her forward sprint to try and block her from leaving. The little dead bird had been left alone and passed up on. It was far too tempting to leave it there and chase after the strange doe. With a sly smile, she went and picked up the bird with her sharp jaws. If she ate it now she won't be hungry for a few more hours. Amorpheous Wow. Through the Flesh is amazing! I wish I knew how to use Death to interact with her more ;A; i hope they meet again in the future.
