User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Today was the day! Nuru stood proud as he could up on the pinnacle of skulls he had managed to find. He had a face that reeked of confidence and a smile that spread wide, cheek to cheek with enthuasim. He roared a laugh of excitement with a pathetic little tip toeing dance, yet the fool could care less. He was jittery with chills of anticipation and his very soul seemed to radiate glee at his expense. "Hunting time!" He yipped much louder than intended, and it came off as an last minute battle cry of sorts.

He leapt from the skull peak and raced down to the bottom. He nearly tripped as he ran and saved himself last minute from a face plant on his final decent to the charred ground. His orange eyes sparkled and the hyena charged full force into grassy landscape of the rouge lands. Everything was very flat here, (although he had heard rumors of cliffs existing) unlike the elephant graveyard where you had to twist and move your feet to avoid crushing anyone's precious skull collection. He had made that mistake once and, ugh... He didn't want to think about that, he didn't want to think about anything, he just wanted to run!

If for not Euanthe’s light colour of her fur she would have blended in perfectly with the green grass. She sat on a large hill almost resembling the giant gray cliffs behind her. She always loved to look at scenery there was just something about it that always dragged her in. If the day would allow her she would take the chance to just stare and never leave lost in her almost eternal thoughts. As long as she could remember she was always alone but that didn’t affect her at all if anything she enjoyed it.

Sometimes she would come across strangers and strike up a conversation. In times like that she would truly feel alone. Since most of the time she spoke in her mind only to herself when it came to talking she would rarely find her voice as if it had already been lost. It drifted away from her and reality only existing in her mind. She hoped that one day someone would come and help release that she could talk. That maybe it was just all in her mind and that maybe the only person who was stopping her was herself.

She turned around feeling as if she was at a cross road. She looked over to the dark lands. It was covered in gray and black. She faced back to what she saw before. It was green, and blue, and colourful, it was just happy. Sometimes in the brightest places there is sadness… She looked down at her paw. She stood in between the light and dark. Thinking about what life she could choose; the light or the dark. This is stupid why am I doing this it means nothing. She tried to convince herself that she was wrong; that this place was not a place for new beginnings.

Nuru was having fun! He frolicked around like a pup, high on adrenalin and full to the brim with live. He paused his jogging for only the briefest of moments, to stop and observe how the scenery looked from here. The graveyard, his home, it was dull and lifeless as always. To most it was just plain unattractive of a dwelling; but to him it was gorgeous... In it's own way of course.

He dared himself to let loose a howl, however those were reserved for when hunters like himself actually managed to catch food. Nuru had bad luck with that, even if he was charging out here for the sake of hunting. Even if he had stayed up all night glaring at the moon as it briskly peaked through the fog. Dared did he, to thump his tail upon the ground and disturb the pack females with his happiness and impatient waiting for tomorrow to arrive. He tended to do that a lot, and then he'd bolt as soon as the sun's ray turned the everlasting dark of his homelands into a lighter shade of depressing grey. Today though he had been distracted and couldn't do such for a while, now it was good light out and he had to blink as he first stepped into the light of new lands.

He continued to stretch his legs forward, again, again, again! He wouldn't stop, couldn't stop running until-!

"Woah, WOAH, WOAH!!!~." He forced his feet onto the ground instantly, but slid and realized he wasn't going to stop without ramming into the mint-colored hyena there. Oh, he hoped this didn't hurt.

She did sense an animal nearing her but she thought that all animals would have the brain to know to avoid people especially in areas with lots of cliffs. Apparently she was wrong. She was slammed into by some fool who was going too fast for his own good. They were launched off the cliff together flying through midair. She got a glance at the creatures face at the very moment. It was an all-black hyena. She just gave him a bland look as if saying moron.

They landed in some form of liquid. Euanthe figured it was water and she was right. She doggy paddled her way out struggling for air coughing up water. As soon as she saw the black hyena appear next to her she was ready to yell at him. ”What were you doing!” Strangely she could find her voice with this person even if it was just to yell at him. ”You could have got us killed!” He just had a goofy smile on his face which agitated her even more.

For some reason she felt comfortable with this stranger. She was treating him like one would treat a brother or a close friend. He was just the type of person people liked to be around she could tell. She felt as if he was the opposite of her. Even though she was colourful she was dull. He was dark but on the inside he was bright. She found it so strange to meet someone so different then her. She thought that maybe that was the reason she was interested in him because he was a new different person. She could not even explain it to herself just for some reason this person captured her attention.

They were falling. Crap! Now he'd done it! The other hyena's face glanced at his for a brief moment as they fell. Was she... Was she disappointed in him? She didn't look surprised, only a little, but mostly her face was alarmed with irritation and disappointment rather than shock.

Maybe she was having a bad day. Yep, had to be it, not the fact that he had just plummeted them both of a cliff. Nooooo, of course that wasn't it.

When Nuru's mass hit the water it had done so as he was staring at the sky, and he did not have the luxury that Euanthe did of knowing where his body was going to land. So he panicked in mid-air with a scream of terror and then a solidified brace of his body to prepare for the impact of hitting solid ground. Only he didn't hit solid ground.

His body seemed to be absorbed in the water and Nuru struggled to take a breath in. He struggled to propel himself forward and when he managed to figure out how the basic maneuver of swimming functioned, he gasp largely upon touching the air.

Then he turned to stare at the mint hyena with glee written in between his goofy grin. He laughed at her. "We lived! Thank the gods, we survived!" Needless to say that was how Nuru handled a near death experience, by laughing about it shamelessly.

Euanthe couldn’t come to understand this barbaric hyena’s nature. He had just thrown them off of a cliff and that was all he had to say. She couldn’t understand why he wasn’t even fazed by this near death experience. He treated it as if it was nothing, as if it had happened to him many times before. For some reason this irritated her. She didn’t get how someone could be so idiotic. ”That’s all you have to say!” She decided to verbalise her thoughts.

She let out a sigh like laugh. ”How much of a moron are you?!” She just looked at him still not done with her yelling fit. ”Are you blind because then maybe I can forgive you, for almost ending both of our lives.” She gasped for air from yelling so much it had been quite some time since she had talked that much.

She began to laugh. She found it so funny that this was how she met a stranger. It sounded as if it was right out of a story. She never imagined that she would meet anyone in such a way as just now. Not in her wildest dreams would she imagine something like this happening. It has so funny she couldn’t stop herself from just laughing. ”Sorry for yelling at you.” She said her laughing slowly beginning to stop. ”I’m Euanthe who are you?”

Nuru was preoccupied shaking water out of his head and fur to pay attention to Euanthe at first. "Huh?" He mumbled and turned to look startled as the light pelted girl began barking at him madly. He whined softly and pinned his ears back. He hadn't intended to go falling over that cliff. He hadn't intended on dragging her down with him, yet he was being yelled at still. Not that he wasn't yelled at daily, he just wasn't used to being yelled at by someone not in his pack.

"S-sorry, lady." He would have called her madam but that's what he called the ladies in the graveyard and they told him specifically that he wasn't to call any "stupid rogue women" that. Eua didn't look stupid, she looked angry. But still, Nuru obeyed even now and called her lady and not madam.

When she began to laugh his ears perked up and Nuru, nervously joined in. He wasn't sure what was so funny but if he laughed along with her maybe she wouldn't try to drown him here and now. "Eua... Euan'the." He tried different ways of saying her name on his tongue before repeating the actual one for her to hear. "Me? Nuru. Nuru Moyo is my name." He splashed water around mercilessly as he attempt to approach her for a more friendly greeting.

”Nuru that’s a nice name.” She said trying to remember what it meant. ”It means light.” She smiled to herself. ”It’s a little ironic but it suits you.” She sort of figured he was a little surprised. Most animals didn’t know that much about the meaning behind names. Since she was alone most of the time she had lots of time to learn new things. Animals like him that were in packs probably though that all rogues were stupid. Some of them were but not all. She found it strange how they would just assume these things about the rogues even though they didn’t know if it was true or not. Some animals from packs would treat her as if she was an alien.

She noticed that the water still remained on her dripping from her fur. She didn’t really mind it though. She began to shake it off thinking of it as a common courtesy. She didn’t notice but as she was doing this she managed to get water all over Nuru. When she looked at him he was more drenched then before. ”Oh I’m sorry.” She said. She figured that he really didn’t mind it just seemed like that was the type of person he was. Her stomach began to make funny noises letting her know that she was hunger. Only she was able to her them though. It would be rude if she just ran off from this conversation to get food. Wouldn’t it?

"Yes, yes. Very nice." Nuru shook his fur out some more. He wasn't aware of the meaning behind his name, but he was just glad it wasn't something stupid. Well it was sort of dumb to name him "light" but he knew it was okay. As Eua had said, it suited his personality but not necessarily his coloring. "Yours is nice too, but I don't know what it means." He said as she got him all wet. Nuru wasn't fazed by it but continued to smile obliviously at her with cheer riddled across his grin.

He picked his ear up with attention diverted by the sound of yipping and hollering in the distance. He knew that noise! Someone had found food and needed help bringing it down! Nuru had made that noise several times in the last week, because of antelopes and rhinos wandering far to near to the border of his pack. He almost ran off instantly but stopped at the water's edge to bid Eua farewell. "I got ta go, important meeting!" He tried to explain with some odd paw questers but upon hearing more yowling surged ahead. He paused only to call back "I'll see you later!" To her.

He truly didn't know if that was the case, but he somewhat hoped it would be.

As she saw the black hyena run into the distance she responded to herself what he had asked her. ”It means blooming.” She whispered to herself with a grin ever so happy. When he left she couldn’t help but hope she was able to see him again. Maybe that was the place for new beginnings. She had finally met the one who could change her. Nuru would change her for the better. The place she stood wondering where her life was going to go was the beginning of the new her, of a new friendship.

She had yet to know that this meeting would change her forever. This childish, cheerful hyena wouldn’t just walk out of her life that easily. He was quite far away running after the noise they had heard. It may have been a little too late and he may have not heard, but she had to say something. ”I hope to see you soon!” She shouted after him. She had though she saw him turning around giving her one last look. It may have been true of just her eyes played tricks on her. She chose to believe that he had, taking it as a sign that they would indeed meet at least once again.
