User ImageThe Templar of Earth was just getting himself together for his patrol. He had finished up the last of the resorts in the library, after doing the nightly pick up. It was always an annoying task, but he supposed he had gotten used to it these days. He had been at this for a very long time now, well over a decade. The library was his second home, more than it was his job. He loved tending to it, and keeping it running efficiently. In any case, picking up all the books left on tables, or floating on top of shelves, or on the floor after use through out the day was a key part of preparing for the next day.

And it was interesting to see what topics had been looked through. Sometimes, the things he found were strange, funny, or a little disturbing. Along with the books, there were often personal items left behind, which he had to store in the lost and found until someone claimed them, or they were there for three months and no one came for them.

Once all that was done, though, he could turn off all the lights. The rest of the library, the bathrooms, tables, and counters had all been cleaned, and the late night return drop was cleared out and ready to accept any books people decided needed to go back to the library at 2 am, or whenever it was they were struck by the urge.

Looking around, Camelot smiled and shook his head. There was no real reason for him to be powered up before he finished his work, and usually he avoided it lest he drew unwanted attention and give away his identity or something equally dangerous, but tonight he had simply gotten distracted. He finished up, then saw more things that needed doing, and just hadn't bothered to power back down.

The doors were already locked, so as he stepped out of the library they closed and locked behind him without him needing to power down to get the key. He sighed and looked around, wondering when it had started to feel normal to stand in front of the library in the middle of the night in full armor.

To tell the truth, Whisler hadn’t done a lot of powering up lately. He had been too busy trying to get his life back on track, but at least that had been going pretty smoothly. He was the proud owner of a new apartment, and he had enrolled himself into culinary school, and honestly, that was one of the best decisions he could have ever made. He was having an absolute blast, even if he couldn’t be his old self.

He would always be Nicolae inside though, just…now he was more Nick…names didn’t matter all that much to him, honestly it was kind of refreshing to have the slate wiped clean and to be able to talk to people and meet them all anew.

Tonight though. Well, tonight he had the night off of work, and that meant having a lot of free time on his hands for once, and what did free time mean? Obviously it meant he should change himself into that strange Squire state and wiggle around the town, clearly.

Somehow he had made his way towards the library, thinking of how strange it had been to just show up there a few months ago when his purification had happened…but…oh.

He felt someone else there, someone strong…but the good kind of strong.
Whisler hurried over and saw the guy from that time. The one that had been tired looking. He couldn’t remember his name, but how could he forget that outfit?

The squire cleared his throat. “Hey…uh. Fuzzy…man dude. Hi. Remember me?”

Camelot was surprised to see the young Squire he had purified, but not unhappy for it. He had been meaning to follow up with the young man, after having his memories erased by the whole process, but Camelot had not managed to do so. He felt bad for that, hoping the other was doing well, and adjusting to his new role in the White Moon.

He remembered Whisler clearly, though from the look on the other's face, those memories were not as vivid for the Squire. It was to be expected, as purification had some strange effects. Just as corruption had taken Lina's memories of Camelot from her, Camelot remembered that Whisler had been very confused after the whole thing and could not remember things he'd learned while powered up as a Negaverse officer.

"Hello! How are you doing? My name is Camelot, by the way, not... ah... Fuzzy man dude." Though he had to admit, that nick name was still better than some of the other ones he'd gotten. He would definitely take it as an improvement.

Camelot's natural need to worry kicked in when he started wondering why Whisler was out and about and near the Library that evening.

"Are you in trouble? Do you need any help?"

Whisler shook his head. “No, no I’m fine. No help needed. I was just…you know. Poking my nose into things and I felt you over here…so I decided to see who and what you were, and lo and behold, it was you. Fuzzy Camelot. I don’t know what that’s such a hard name to remember, but I couldn’t think of it for the life of me.”

He reached up, touching the fuzzy material of his own hat and laughed. “Not that I can really talk…I guess I have some fuzz on me too. So. That’s pretty cool. We can be the furry bros if you want.” He gave a little grin and shrugged. “I’m doing pretty good, all things considered. It’s been…tough giving up my old life, I mean…I see people who I knew and go to say hello and they just look at me blankly, but hey. I’ve decided to just go out on a limb and try out culinary school, so that’s been pretty awesome.”

The squire grinned. “I think I made the right decision though. To come to this side. At least…from what I’ve seen. I ran into a youma, and kicked its butt…and I’m glad I’m not with the people that let those monsters run rampant anymore…So, I guess I owe you a big thank you…”

He gave a grin. “So. Thanks, Camelot.”

"Fuzzy Camelot," the knight of Earth laughed, nodding his head. He did have a very fuzzy cape these days, but he was not sure if the name was fitting in other names. He could be a bit of a push over, as far as emotions went, and liked hugs as much as the next guy. He was fuzzy in a metaphorical sense, he supposed. But he doubted it was that deep.

"Fuzzy Bros. The start of a very powerful and strong team of knights, hm? We'll put a stop to Chaos through the sheer softness of our capes and hats." He chuckled, looking at the other knight and feeling a warm sense of pride. He couldn't help it. The Knight had purified of his own volition, and joined their side. He was proof that it was all possible, and they fought so hard to actually make progress.

Plus, Camelot had purified him, and that made him feel connected to the other. Protective.

"I know it can be difficult. I haven't been through it personally, but I've had friends who have. It's going to be an adjustment for a while, but it sounds like you're doing really well. I'm really glad you're not regretting your decision, and really, if anyone owes anyone a thank you, I owe you. Your choice to join us means a lot more than you can understand yet, and it brings a lot of hope back to those of us that see too many of our own being corrupted. It means a lot, being brave and strong enough to choose for yourself to make this kind of a change. So. Thank you for that."

Mariposite laughed, feeling slightly awkward from the thank you that Camelot was offering. There was just…something strange about being thanked for doing something that you didn’t remember doing, or being someone you didn’t remember being. “Hey, Camelot, don’t thank me, seriously. I didn’t do anything…but…just out of curiosity, do you know why I decided to uh…leave them? Because, I really have no idea…was I freaking out about anything or just…bored? I don’t even remember joining them to begin with…but…”

He gave an almost sad little smile. “I have the feeling that if and when they find out, they’re going to be pretty pissed. I haven’t met anyone from the chaos side yet, but that youma, it was bad enough almost.” He rubbed the fur on his hat and grinned for real. “Yeah. You and me will fuzz them all into oblivion. That’s a pretty cool thought. Remind me to make you some cupcakes one day, all right? As a for real thank you gift.”

If Camelot had answers as to why he switched, well, that would mean even more cupcakes, maybe.

"Well, I'm not sure of your reasons, personally. I only had second hand accounts, for the most part. But when I helped you, I saw how sincere you were, in no longer wanting Chaos to poison your mind, and corrupt you further than it had at that point. I think you saw what could happen, and that was not something you wanted to suffer, or, I think, make those around you suffer. I think you just had too big a heart."

He smiled, chuckling a bit. He knew that he had a few strange encounters with the young Nega, before he'd purified, but they had never been antagonistic. One had been accidentally flirtatious, so clearly there was more to the Nega than Chaos could touch. He was a bit on the act first, think later side of things, maybe, but Camelot had never felt threatened by him.

Those were the hardest Negaverse soldiers to know. The ones that weren't evil, that did not want to hurt and kill and live up to their names. The ones that could or could not choose to purify: Camelot wished he could help them all, guide them to the path of the Knight and away from the grip of Chaos, but it always had to be their choice. He would not want it any other way, but it did not make things easy for any of them. Purification was one of the bravest things anyone could do, so thought Camelot, and he could not help but be proud of those that made the leap.

"Hopefully no one will ever put it together that you and your former Negaverse counter part are one and the same," he said, nodding his head. "They'll think you fell in combat, or something else happened to take you away, but they may never realize who you have become. At least, that's what I hope for. In any case, if you do ever have trouble, you can always contact me for help."

Camelot was the kind of knight that pledged himself to others. He did not serve for himself, at least not as far as he could see it. He was on bended knee to anyone that needed him: he was a Knight of the City, of Order, and of all his fellows on the White Moon side.

Whisler nodded and sighed. “Well. I’m glad you were able to do it…and yeah. I hope that nobody can recognize me either. That would be a very messy situation…and frankly I don’t want to have to deal with that.” He shrugged, thinking about whatever bad things could come of it and finally decided that he could just play dumb. In all honesty he had no idea why he had switched to this side…so he really couldn’t be at fault, could he? Not really….

“Camelot, you and I will have to have more talks…and maybe you can help me learn more about what it means to be a knight, if you don’t mind me bothering you for silly things like that.”

He flashed a smile and shrugged. “I mean. Who better to learn from than you. You seem like the best person in this place…and the easiest to talk to, I think. I feel like…like you and I have a real connection. And I like that. Like we’ll be bffs. Bff fuzzy bros. Forever. Hence the second f in bff.”

"I can certainly try to help you," he chuckled. He had a very sagely and experienced air about him, and maybe he had earned it somehow, but he sometimes had a hard time believing he was any different than other Knights out there. Only fleetingly, and he kept it private, but that had been something he always kept with him, since he was a civilian. Humility, maybe, but more likely he just had a lack of self confidence that he had never fully grown out of.

It was a lot easier now, though, to shake those feelings of doubt, and embrace the role he had been given, the one he had made for himself. He loved being able to help guide other knights, and if someone came to him for help, he would certainly bend his focus to that student, and help him as best as he was able. All the knowledge he had, all of his experience, was there for others to learn from and to know.

Camelot was a librarian in his civilian life, and a bit of a library in his powered one.

"I have a feeling you're only going to get fuzzier as you grow stronger. I might be jealous, but I'll always remember being bff's." He smiled, feeling silly but oddly flattered at the same time. It was not every day someone declared themselves his friend, after all. He knew he had them, and many of them, but with the war and his focus, it sometimes seemed that he only connected to them as allies in the war. He forgot that bonding occurred on many levels, and friends were just as important as fellows in arms.

Whisler shook his head. “Hey. Camelot. Don’t be jealous. Be happy for yourself. Because if I do get fuzzier…well. It’s going to be a miserable summer for me. Is there any rule saying that knights have to wear all of their clothes…because I’m seriously thinking that I might start ditching my hat when I power up and tossing it somewhere…fuzzy might be epic and hip, but it’s not good for the summertime fighting and whatnot.”

He gave a little smile. “I’m glad we’ll always be bffs. Makes me feel like I have someone to turn to when things go bad…but I guess that’s what you always were, so I shouldn’t complain too much…but…thank you again, for answering my questions, and just for being here for me. I really appreciate you, Camelot. We should hang out for real sometime. Like, when all of this knight stuff isn’t getting involved. We could…we could go bowling!”

Because that sounded really good. Really stupid, mind you. But really fun. Going bowling. Who even did that nowadays? “Or golf. We could totally go mini golfing. I like that too. Just something fun. We can be real bros.”

"Unfortunately, our outfits have a silly way of just... showing up, cleaned and whole, of their own free will. I wonder if it is possible to escape them in the heat... at least during one power up." He had never tried it before, if he was honest. Being able to take off his cape and leave it off would be a very nice perk in the summer, though with his heavy armor he doubted it would really make too much of a difference.

"Bowling?" He chuckled and shook his head, trying to imagine the two of them hanging out after 'work'. Tony, for the most part, kept to himself and his family life when he was not playing super hero, but that was only because he worked too much to make many friends. The kind of friends that hung out, anyway.

"I think you'd be embarrassed, hanging out with an old man like me. But I don't think I've ever been to mini golf, so I can't say no." He smiled and nodded his head, not ignoring the way Whisler thanked him, but he didn't want to dwell on it. They both did what they felt they had to, for their own reasons. Camelot put the needs of others above all else, and he wanted to help see them prosper and grow. If he could help someone, even a little bit, then he was happy.

"It might be fun to hang out some time." And why not? It wasn't like he could hang out and go mini golfing or bowling with his actual son.

Whisler nodded. “Then we’ll have to make a date of it. It’ll be fun. And why on earth would I be uspest to hang out with someone like you? It’s not like I could hang out with my father, even if he was still alive.”

The male paused and sighed, shrugging. “He wouldn’t know who I was, right? So…yeah. We’ll have to make plans sometime soon. I’ll…come stalk you in the library or something, that seems to be where you hide, right?”

Not to mention he had seen the man change from Camelot at least once, so he was sure that he would recognize him. And here they were, near the library now, and they had been near it when Whisler had come into existence…so…clearly Camelot was equal to the Library. It was a good thing to know.

“But…yeah. Soon then. We’ll have to hang out. Now though, I think I should be on my way. Later, Camelot! You have a good night, stay cool…fool.” Whisler winked and began walking off, wanting to get away before the older knight could say anything about the super personal information he had given about. Parent things were difficult to talk about sometimes…especially for Nick…it had always been a touchy subject…but now it was even worse. Because now he wasn’t himself…he would never be himself again.

Damn that sucked.
