Welcome to the Yama Pack!
The Yama Pack was founded on the notion that there is strength in numbers. Where two individuals might fail on their own, they can thrive if they work together. Comprised of those whose only common factor must be the commitment to work as a team, the pack encompasses varied personality types. Together, they help each other survive.
You mess with one of the Yama Pack, you mess with the entire Yama Pack.

Pack Territory
The pack territory covers a large stretch of land and would take roughly five days to cross, if it were perfectly flat. The terrain is made up of mountains and valleys with a coniferous forest and small lakes tucked in the valleys.
The pack dens in natural caves. There are several they use scattered throughout their territory. They periodically switch which cave they use, based mainly on seasons or available game, though they might also move for strategic reasons.
There is a large variety of wildlife in their territory. Animals hunted for food include deer, elk, rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks, mice and other small rodents, and grouse. Raccoons and coati are also options, but can be troublesome. Natural predators include wolves, cougars, and black bears, though the former is rarely seen in pack territory and confrontations with the two latter are rare.
• We aren't asking that all members have to be strong, tough, and serious, but the pack does live in an environment where mistakes can have horrible consequences. Someone who doesn't understand that could put oneself and the pack in danger, something they take seriously. Silly or flighty personalities will probably not do well here, nor will selfish or ambitious ones.
• The Yama Pack looks out for each other like family, so you can imagine how they feel when matters of love or children come up. Mating: Courtship, even having children, with non-pack members is discouraged but tolerated. If a pack member decides to lifemate though, the mate in question must either already be pack, join the pack, or the pack member must leave the pack. This is in the best interests of all involved; a pack member whose attention is split between pack and mate will be conflicted at best and a danger to themself and/or the pack at worst. A mate joining the pack is highly encouraged, as it strengthens the pack and the bonds within it. Breeding: If a pack member is gifted with offspring along with a parent who is not pack, at least one of those offspring must be raised in/part of the pack. If, for story reasons, you do not want either offspring in the pack, you must clear this with me BEFORE you enter a breeding! If both parents belong to the Yama Pack then all offspring will also belong to the pack automatically. This is not to say that offspring born into the pack are stuck in it. If you truly wish to withdraw offspring from the pack all I require is that they reach adult stage and roleplay with the Alpha requesting the termination, which can be done here or in PM/PRP. Just keep in mind there are repercussions. If you don't already know about them:
Quote:
As packs consist of 5 members, most family packs split off from other packs after they've had kids. This is fine. No penalty will be given to fume who leave a pack to create their own.
Only reasons for leaving a pack is to create your own pack. You have one week to create your own pack.
If you leave without creating a new pack within a week, you will be banished from your old pack, unable to return to it, and be unable to join any other pack or make a new one for 2 months. You will also not be able to gain the benefits of being in a pack for the first breeding that happens after you join your new pack.
This rule is here to keep people from creating a bunch of packs and then leave or just join it for the breeding and then leave.
If after reading this you are still interested in having your Fume join the Yama Pack, all you have to do is fill out the form below and PM it to me, jinxgirl5, and title it Yama Pack. By submitting a form you are stating that you have read this post and are in agreement with the conditions. Any questions, you can PM those to me as well : )
My Fume: Why do you think the Yama Pack is for them? No length requirements to your answer, I'm just curious about what drew your Fume to this pack.

How's The Weather?
Welcome to the weather channel post. Since there's a minimal monthly requirement for posting, I thought it would be interesting to post the seasons, temperatures, and even weather. Setting the stage, if you will. I'm going to roll each month and break things down in a week by week report. I'm only doing four weeks, so we'll just have to tuck those extras days into the fourth week.
Weather for the month of: July
Week 4 Season: Summer Temperature: High of 85°F, low of 60°F Weather: Partly cloudy, scattered thunderstorms HSR: 4
A look at last week:
Season: Summer Temperature: High of 89°F, low of 56°F Weather: Scattered thunderstorms, partly cloudy HSR: 1
Hunting Success Rate
The hunting success rate, or HSR, is another stat posted along with the weather and, like the weather, is meant to add variety and adversity.
• How does it work? When I post the weather for a new week I RNG between 1 and 5. The resulting number will be that week's HSR number.
• What do the numbers mean? 1 0% to 20% chance of success on a hunt.
2 21% to 40% chance of success on a hunt.
3 41% to 60% chance of success on a hunt.
4 61% to 80% chance of success on a hunt.
5 81% to 100% chance of success on a hunt.
• Can I still roleplay my Fume making a successful kill if the HRS number is low? Certainly! Just don't roleplay them making successful kills all the time, add some failures or a ton of challenge in your posts.
• What if you roll a low number several times in a row? If I roll a 1 more than three times in a row, a 2 more than four times in a row, or roll a combination of 1 and 2 more than four times in a row, the pack will move to a new den and get a higher HRS number for that week.

Stat System
To add interest and variety to the pack I introduced the concept of hunting success rate, but it can be hard to roleplay a percentage, especially when you have several bad weeks in a row. Also, not all Fumes are built the same, nor do they all act the same. Some are stronger, faster, more agile, more cunning, or just plain stubborn. How much of each trait a Fume has can affect how a hunt will go, but in roleplay there's no effective standard of measurement you can use. Therefore, I thought it would be interesting to introduce a stat system.
The stats are as follows:
• Strength - This determines how strong your Fume is. • Speed - This determines how fast your Fume is. • Agility - This determines graceful and balanced your Fume is. • Stamina - This determines how much energy your Fume has. • Intelligence - This determines how clever your Fume is. • Patience - Action has its rewards, but sometimes you need patience to achieve your goals. • Instinct - A wild card. Can either greatly improve your circumstances or do absolutely nothing.
• How do I get my stats? When you join the pack at some point you will roll seven (7) 10-sided dice. You will then assign the numbers as your stats.
• Do I have to assign the numbers in order? You can, but you do not have to assign them in order. Say I roll 3, 9, 2, 8, 6, 3, 7. I could assign the numbers like in the example below. It's up to you which stat you want to assign which number to. Example: Strength: 8 Speed: 6 Agility: 2 Stamina: 7 Intelligence: 3 Patience: 3 Instinct: 9
• Do stats affect my Fume outside hunting games? If you want, but the effect will be minimal. For example if one Fume has a speed of 3 and another Fume has a speed of 10 you can assume the second Fume will be faster than the first Fume. However, this does not mean the second Fume will be running laps around the first Fume, nor does it mean having a speed of 3 (or even 1) makes you slow. The main effect of the stat numbers is to determine how well you might succeed in hunting games. Roleplay is for fun and bonding, so if and how much you want to utilize your stats is up to you.
• Can I raise my stats? Yes! You raise your stat points through hunting games. You'll learn more about that in the game instructions later on.
• Do I have to roll for stats/participate in hunting games? No. If you prefer not to join in, that's perfectly fine. However, if you decide to roll for stats but not play the games, there is currently no other way to raise stat points.
• Do I need to keep track of my stats? You can if you want, though all stats will be kept here.
• Is there a reward for maxing out my stats? At the moment there is not, though I am all for it and am trying to think of something suitable.
Hunting Game
• How does the game work? The game starts with a series of scenarios, one for single hunting, one for pair hunting, and one for group hunting. Each scenario will have a series of outcomes. Which outcome you achieve depends on your stats, the weekly hunting success rate, and a roll of the dice. Each game has different requirements and different potential rewards.
• How often are hunting games held/how long do they last? Hunting games will be held once or twice a month, and last for an entire week.
• How often can I roll? When the HSR is 1: Once a day. When the HSR is 2: Five times, one roll a day. When the HSR is 3: Three times, one roll a day. When the HSR is 4: Two times, one roll a day. When the HSR is 5: Only one time.
Regardless of the HSR number, you many only claim one participation point per Fume per week.
• Can I only play one game type per week? No. You can play Single one day, Group the next, Single again, then try your luck with Pair. You can mix and match however you like. The key rules to remember are you can only play one game per day, and you can only play as many games as allowed by the HSR. See the previous question if you aren't sure how many games are allowed for the week.
• Is this the only way the pack hunts/Can I non-game hunt in the middle of a hunting game? No; we don't hold the games that often, they'd starve! This is just a way to have some fun, bond as pack members, and raise stats. While non-game hunting during the week of a hunting game is allowable, just remember the HSR is still in effect and roleplay your hunt accordingly.
- Single -
How to play! Number of Fumes required: 1 Instructions: The Single game is less about stats and more about the hunting success rate percentage. You can pick any stat and your chances of winning will be the same no matter what! This is great when you have low stats you're trying to boost, but the lower the hunting success rate the lower your chances of winning.
When HSR is 1 Pick your stat. Multiply number by ten. RNG between 1 and that number. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 70. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 7 to win. When HSR is 2 Pick your stat. Multiply number by ten. RNG between 1 and that number. Multiply stat by 3. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 70. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 21 to win. When HSR is 3 Pick your stat. Multiply number by two. RNG between 1 and that number. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 14. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 7 to win. When HSR is 4 Pick your stat. Multiply number by ten. RNG between 1 and that number. Multiply stat by 7. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 70. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 49 to win. When HSR is 5 Pick your stat. Multiply number by ten. RNG between 1 and that number. Multiply stat by 9. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 70. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 63 to win.
HSR can be found on the front page in the weather post, and will also be included in the game post. To add more risk to this game of chance you can change your HSR to a lower number, which lowers your chance of winning but ups the reward. EX, if the HSR is 3 you can try for 2 or 1, but not 4 or 5. You can't change your mind once you change your HSR, so think carefully!
Rewards! Note: You only get points if you win. If you fail you only receive a participation point, which is given to you regardless of whether you win or lose.
Participation in game: 1 point towards any stat HSR 1: 6 points towards chosen stat HSR 2: 5 points towards chosen stat HSR 3: 4 points towards chosen stat HSR 4: 3 points towards chosen stat HSR 5: 2 points towards chosen stat
- Pair -
How to play! Number of Fumes required: 2 Instructions: The game involves a scenario and five options to choose from. In this game you have one of two choices. You and your partner can band together and pick a single choice, thus combining your stats and upping your chances of winning, or you can choose to each pick a single option, thus relying on your own stats which increases both the risk and the reward. Once you choose to either hunt together or separately you can't change your mind!
If you choose to attack individually, each person must post their own chosen option.
If you choose to attack as a pair, have one person post the option you're going with.
After you have chosen your option(s), you will be quoted with the results. For now pair hunters cannot choose to change their HSR like single hunters can, though this may change in the future.
Rewards! Note: You only get points if you win. If you fail you only receive participation points, which are given to you regardless of whether you win or lose.
Participation in game: 1 point each towards any stat HSR 1 or 2: (Individual, 1 success 1 fail) 4 points towards any stat for successful Fume, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume (Individual, 2 successes) 5 points each towards any stat (Group) 4 points each towards any stat HSR 3 or 4: (Individual, 1 success 1 fail) 3 points towards any stat for successful Fume, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume (Individual, 2 successes) 4 points each towards any stat (Group) 3 points each towards any stat HSR 5: (Individual, 1 success 1 fail) 2 points towards any stat for successful Fume, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume (Individual, 2 successes) 3 points each towards any stat (Group) 2 points each towards any stat
- Group -
How to play! Number of Fumes required: 3-6 Instructions: The game involves a scenario and five options to choose from. As in the Pair game you now have choices. One choice is that each member of the group can select a different option, which increases the reward but decreases the chances of winning as you must rely on your own stats. Another choice is to attack in pairs or groups, which combines your stats and increases the chance of winning. Each attack group must be a minimum of two and can contain as many as four, and there can be multiple attack groups. EX, if your group contains 5 Fumes you can have 3 choose one option and 2 choose another option, or 4 choose one option and 1 attack individually, or have all 5 do individual attacks. It's up to you how you wish to proceed. Just know that once you choose to hunt individually or in groups, you can't change your mind!
If you choose to attack individually, each person must post their own chosen option.
If you choose to attack as a group, have one person post who is in the group and the option you're going with.
After you have all chosen your option(s), you will be quoted with the results. For now group hunters cannot choose to change their HSR like single hunters can, though this may change in the future.
Rewards! Note: You only get points if you win. If you fail you only receive participation points, which are given to you regardless of whether you win or lose.
Participation in game: 1 point each towards any stat HSR 1 or 2: (Individual, mixed success and fail) 4 points towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume (Individual, all succeed) 6 points each towards any stat (Groups, mixed success and fail) 4 points each towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point each towards any stat for unsuccessful Fumes (Groups, all succeed) 5 points each towards any stat HSR 3 or 4: (Individual, mixed success and fail) 3 points towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume (Individual, all succeed) 5 points each towards any stat (Groups, mixed success and fail) 3 points each towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point each towards any stat for unsuccessful Fumes (Groups, all succeed) 4 points each towards any stat HSR 5: (Individual, mixed success and fail) 2 points towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume (Individual, all succeed) 4 points each towards any stat (Groups, mixed success and fail) 2 points each towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point each towards any stat for unsuccessful Fumes (Groups, all succeed) 3 points each towards any stat

Welcome to the post tracker. The formation of a pack is dependent on certain posting rules. If you are not already familiar with these rules:
Quote:
03. ONE page of Pack rp must be completed each month for the pack to continue as a pack. 04. If LESS THAN ONE PAGE (seriously, fifteen posts) is completed that month, the pack will be disbanded and no longer recognized as a pack. 05. One must join a pack and make at least one post Two Weeks prior to any breeding for the pack breeding perk to apply.
This section will keep track of member posting. There are no posting requirements or penalties for those who do not post, but we highly encourage at least one post per month.
* Incense container, cannot post ♦ First post made less than two weeks ago
Posted: Sun Apr 27, 2014 10:29 pm
Open for posting! Please do not post until your pack application has been officially accepted!

Thundercloud looked on with slight benevolence coloring his features as Steelspark's daughter rolled around. She was just a quiet kip most of the time, following him or her mother around and just watching. It was nice to see her playing like a normal child every now and then. Even if their pack was still small yet, she deserved that.
He looked up to scan the horizon, nose and ears twitching as they took in the scents and sounds around him. The sky was covered in grey clouds, with thunder rumbling every so often that hinted at the possibility of rain. It made Thundercloud glad they had moved their home base as soon as Starblade was delivered in her incense container. Their old den was suitable for rainy season, but it had the potential to be flooded if they got too much water at once. As the sky rumbled again, louder this time, Thundercloud hoped Steelspark would get back soon. Being caught out alone at night was bad, in a storm was worse.

Posted as a kit Starblade was practicing her pouncing skills. Momma had shown her the best way to capture rodents, and Starblade wanted to impress Momma by proving she could be an amazing hunter. That meant getting her speed and precision up! She rolled and tumbled around the rocks at the base of their hillside den, though she was careful not to roll too far away. If she did then Thundercloud would come stalking out, grumbling, then pick her up by her neck scruff and deposit her in the den and confine her there until her mother got back. Like she was some kind of child! She knew to look out for things that lurked under rocks and up in trees, and to watch the sky for hawks. She still got safety lectures every time she set so much as a claw outside the den. Bunch of worrywarts, that's what the adults were.
A loud rumble, louder than the others before it, made Starblade pause in the middle of her practice and look up. The sky was getting darker and the wind had begun to pick up. She cast a worried look through the sparse trees in direction she knew Momma would likely be hunting. She'd gone out to get food for them. Shouldn't she be back by now?

Steelspark cast glances up at the sky as she trotted along, the bodies of two grouse held by the neck in her jaws and swinging with her movements. It had been a good day. While leaping for her intended target she'd managed to hit a second one, lashing out with her back legs from her leap and hitting it in the neck, instantly breaking it. It had been sheer good luck, for which she was grateful. With a third mouth to feed, one grouse alone would probably not have cut it. She would have had to try hunting down another or going after rodents, wasting time that was now needed to get home before a storm broke over her.
The wind picked up, a hint of a chill with it. Steelspark sped up, briefing wishing they still living in the old den. It was closer to where she'd been hunting, but set further downhill. She and Thundercloud had agreed that making a move would be better now that there was a kip to look after. And probably she'd feel differently if it really did start pouring, but for now she still wished she was home.
Finally the trees began to clear ever so slight, a sign she was close. She lifted her nose, hoping to get a scent of her daughter and pack mate, though at the moment all she could smell was grouse and a hint of blood. Rocks started to dot the ground, then she rounded a patch of spruce trees and spotted the bright gold fur of Thundercloud against the darkness of the den. She scanned the rocks and felt a tiny relaxing in her muscles when she spotted the dark blue fur of her daughter amidst the rocks near the den. The girl got her markings from Steelspark, but her coloring was all her father.

Starblade's tail wagged in excitement when she spotted a familiar ghostly grey shape materializing through the tree. Momma was really good at blending in, but when she was on the move you couldn't help but notice the shock of bright pink hair. She had to suppress an urge to go bounding over, but it would have made her look like a silly kip who worried, plus Momma was already coming this way and had her paws full with their meal. Of course she could offer to help carry the meal! That would be another point in her bucket of responsibility!
About to go over and do just that, a sudden flash followed by a blast of thunder instead caused her to squeak and plaster herself to the ground. It sounded like an angry giant had just dropped a fistful of trees right next to their den, it had been so loud! She trembled a little, shaken, but before she could fully recover and start to move a pair of jaws fastened firmly in her neck scruff and hauled her up to dangle in the air.

At the first really serious flash of lightning Thundercloud was out of the den and moving towards Starblade. He didn't think anything would happen, but better safe than risk the wrath of Steelspark. That other man would probably prove himself a nuisance as well, though he hadn't actually met Starblade's father for himself.
Hauling the kip (protesting, as per her usual) to the den with Steelspark a few feet behind him, he didn't set her down until they were far enough back to be protected from any blasts of wind, which were becoming increasing cooler by the moment. Another flash illuminated the cave entrance briefly, followed by a loud, though not as loud as before, bang of thunder. A whiff of rain curled into the cave from the wind currents outside, along with the ever so slight tang of blood and musk of feathers. In came Steelspark, bearing the fruits of her afternoon hunting trip.
Posted: Sun May 04, 2014 8:21 pm
Steelspark trotted into the cave a few lengths behind Thundercloud. She could hear the protests of her daughter even from where she was, and couldn't help a grin. She didn't know if Starblade got her mouth from her or Mosi, but either way it was almost guaranteed she'd have something to say when annoyed. She caught up in time to see the little blue furball sulking, and set down her burden.
"Nice job kip-sitting, Thor. I think we discovered your hidden talent!" She grinned at the grimace he threw her way, then trotted over to Starblade and nudged her daughter with her nose. "So, my mighty huntress, what do you think of your first big storm? We've only had drizzling since you've been born."

Thundercloud smiled as he listened to Starblade tell her mother the storm wasn't scary to her at all. He thought about chiming in, about how if she wasn't scared then what was with that scared stiff posture he'd found her in when he picked her up. But it was her first real storm, so he supposed it could slid just this once. Next storm though, there would be no mercy!
The smell of rain was even stronger now, the flashes and rumbling more of a constant. It sounded like they would be in for one heck of a storm, and soon! Thundercloud was walking over to where Steelspark had laid the grouse, thinking to pluck out their feathers to add them to the communal bed. They would add softness and warmth, rather than going to waste. He had just lowered his head, paw pinning down one of the bodies, when a new scent caught his attention. His head whipped up, ears at attention and leaning towards the cave entrance. He went into a readiness stance, not overly threatening but certainly a posture of one who is ready to fight if need be. Behind him he heard the soft movements of Steelspark assuming a position of her own, and Starblade's voice faded out. The pack waited in silence to see what the next move would be.

Iskiri slowed from a trot as he approached what must be a den from the smell. He had a vole in his mouth that he had caught in a field not far back. It was bad enough that he was asking to join right before a big storm, he didn't have to come by empty handed. That would be impolite. He had stayed long enough to eat another vole in the field so he wouldn't starve, he was too respectful to packs he didn't know to come and ask for food.
He padded toward the den entrance, head and tail down. I am no threat, I am no threat. He thought over and over and it showed in his body language. He saw the big orange male and laid the vole down. "Hello there, I was wondering if I may have shelter from the storm and perhaps join with your pack? I admire the land here and your territory seems broad and lovely. I uh, I brought you this as a gift." He nudged the vole.
He hoped he would be accepted, he did not relish a night in the huge storm and he hoped that these fumes were nice or he was sticking his neck out for no good reason. The male looked strong and he could vaguely see a female in the back, that was a good sign, he didn't think she would be here if the leader was unfair and vice versa.

Starblade's noticed both adults tensing up, though she couldn't figure out what had set them off. Still, she knew enough to fall silent until the moment passed, and gave her own ears and nose a shot to see if she could figure out what was going on.
She still hadn't sensed anything wrong when the strange male walked in and laid a fuzzy little critter down. She peeked from behind Momma's paws to try and get a better look, and noticed it was one of those rodent things Momma was trying to teach her to catch. She wondered if he'd gotten it the way Momma had showed her, or some other way. It couldn't hurt to know multiple ways to catch things, after all. Perhaps because her father and sister weren't pack, an outsider showing up didn't seem that big a deal to her.
With a bound she twisted around her mother and scampered up the cave, though she didn't go past Thundercloud. That would have gotten her an earful of scolding, she knew that much. Observe and plan accordingly, the adults were always going on about that. Well she couldn't observe if she was behind both adults, so this was her compromise.
"How'd you catch that? I've been told like this-," she briefly demonstrated the pouncing move Steelspark had taught her, "-but I've never got to practice it on a something before. I wanna be the best hunter ever, so I'm trying to learn all the ways to catch things!"
