The party was in a lavish penthouse overlooking the Manhattan skyline, filled with muted laughter and soft golden light that glinted enticingly off both decor and guests alike. Fin and Fini, dressed tidily in crisp white shirts and black bow ties have been given the task of circulating the rooms, delivering trays of refreshments and picking up glasses and napkins. The other job they've been given is to locate a runic weapon that bears an odd yellow cast rather than the typical Deus blue.
wait on guests and seek out the weapon
Waiting:
roll 1d6 post quote lizbot if your hunter reacts strongly to any of these 1 - a guest gets a little handsy but slips a twenty into your pocket 2 - you spill a drink and are strongly berrated 3 - you break an expensive item (roll 1 d4 to see if you get caught, evens are safe, odds mean post quote lizbot you're screwed) 4 - you nearly stumble in a terrible way but recover with grace, your skill recieves praise 5 - you find a stunning ruby bracelet on the floor 6 - somebody puts what looks like candy on your tray (post quote liz if you eat it)
Seeking:
roll 1d8 1 - a large man that appears to be a bodyguard passes by, you notice a yellow glow inside their coat pocket (post quote lizbot once you've decided what your hunter is gonna do about it) 2 - you see someone enter a door with an electronic lock, the door does not shut all the way behind them (post quote lizbot if you decide to enter) 3 - you overhear two people discussing an upcoming championship of some sort 4 - you overhear a quiet conversation: "...a big shipment arriving on Tuesday...the labs made a real breakthrough with these, just wait 'til you see them in action..." (laughter) 5-8 - someone notices you, forcing you to try and cover up your suspicious activity. (If this is rolled 3 times, post quote lizbot you've done messed up)

Okay so she probably could have done without the outfit. But this was a mission so she had to wear the appropriate attire. But really, what was with high end places having to go the white and black route? Didn't they know that white easily stained? She had glared at the offending shirt in the mirror while she dressed for the mission, hair tied back neatly and very light makeup applied. It felt sort of familiar yet she couldn't quite place from where.
And then there was the penthouse itself, when they arrived. Fini had... well it had taken her a few extra minutes to get her head in the game because holy s**t it was amazing! And she'd never been to Manhattan (or had she?).
Composing herself (finally), Fini let herself melt right into the rest of the wait staff, keeping her handsome partner in sight when she could. She could do the mingling. Finn was better at the lurking about. Smiling swimmingly as she picked replaced her empty tray with one full of refreshments again, Fini started making her way through the rooms yet again. She had yet to see anything that looked suspiciously like a runic weapon. Well, if she had to be the distraction, she would be good at it! Except for when she wasn't looking in front of her and all but smacked into someone. A small curse escaped as she tried to use her free hand to save the drink...
And failed. Horribly. She didn't think that red wine matched the light lavender dress of the guest it had spilled on. "Ah, forgive me, ma'am-" She began, only to snap her mouth closed as the woman laid into her. Keep it professional... keep it professional! "Please accept my sincerest apologies, ma'am." A pause as something else was added in about her services. "I understand. If you'd give me but a moment, I will gladly fetch you a napkin." That earned her a scowl. Fini refrained from rolling her eyes. But just barely.
When she was finally able to escape, Fini did roll her eyes and avoided that room, moving on to the next and attempting to catch a glimpse of Finn. Had he found anything of interest yet?

He had no complaints to give on the choice of apparel. Well, not many complaints, at least. If he had to say something, it was that the crisp white shirt didn't quite fit right, feeling too loose in the armpit area and too tight around the wrists. It screamed of cheap manufacturing, and Finn positively hated it the moment he put it on.
But he was still more then capable of smiling for the camera, or in this case, the guests that milled about the Manhattan penthouse. He and Fini both had managed to blend themselves in to the waiting staff without a hitch, and while Fini was going about the route of serving the guests (and hopefully keeping an eye out for anything suspicious), Finn knew he would be better off pretending to be busy elsewhere, the temptation to purposefully spill a drink on some of the party goers likely to be too strong for him to pass up on if any gave him a hard time or a condescending look.
But it would almost be impossible to just wander around the room without at least looking like he was doing his job. Grabbing a tray, and giving his usual cold eyed smile to anybody who glanced his way (though avoiding those that opened their mouths as though they were about to ask him to fetch them a drink), he made his way around the room, keeping to the outside to start with, while picking up empty glasses for now, keeping one eye, his only one, moving around, searching for the yellow glow they had been told the runic weapon might possess. Meanwhile, he kept an ear out for any conversations that might be worth listening in on.
Nothing so far struck him as unusual or interesting, though one couple he leaned past were talking about some sort of championship of some kind, a topic he barely gave a passing interest in before he was on the move again.
At some point, he noticed Fini in the crowd, met her eye, smirked, and gave just the slightest shake of his head.
Nothing yet.

Fini smiled too sweetly as she graciously handed a couple the last two drinks from her tray. They thanked her and she backed away to make a slow trip back around to fill up said tray again. For the moment, she avoided any empty glasses she saw, putting the tray under her arm so she could slip much more easily through the crowd.
Glancing about, she caught sight of Finn, held his eye long enough to give a return nod, and went about her duty. Neither of them had seen anything yet... oh hey. Slowing her pace, Fini narrowed her eyes slightly as something glittered a little ahead of her. Making her way casually towards it, she looked around and crouched down quickly to snatch up the item.
Well, it wasn't a runic weapon. However it was probably worth a s**t ton of money, holy s**t! Rubies weren't really her thing... but maybe they could use it for something? She slipped it into her back pocket, moving on and snatching up a glass along the way.

He managed to catch her eye before going back to work picking up glasses. His tray now full, he headed back towards the edge of the room to make his way towards the kitchen to drop off his empties, ready to get out there and make another round, this time hopefully with some better results.
There were a few times on his way back to the kitchens that he stopped and lingered just a few seconds around groups that were talking, busying himself by adjusting the cloth napkin on his arm, but all he really managed to hear was more about some championship thing that he really had no interest in at all.

This time it was totally her fault for spilling the glass. And in her opinion - which she obviously didn't say out loud - the guy deserved it. He was one of the handsy types and yeah no. Not. Tonight. Plus, he'd said a few choice words to the poor girl beside him that Fini just hadn't liked hearing. So... a kick to his chair and a small tip of her tray...
Oh boy he let her have it too. It took everything she had not to deck him. She didn't even try to apologize, just letting him make a fool of himself while standing there.
This was probably why Finn hadn't bothered to do this waiting thing.
She grabbed a napkin off another waiter passing by and tossed it at the man when he had to stop and catch his breath. Fini waited all of five seconds to see if he would say anything else and then excused herself to go clean off her tray.

Glasses dropped off, Finn was back on the prowl for something that might give him an idea of where the runic weapon was being kept. Before he got back out there, he swept the room with his gaze, giving himself a moment to decide where to start.
"Hey you! You weren't hired to just stand around lookin' pretty. Get back to work!" A shout from behind him, but to Finn's credit, he didn't even cringe. Instead, he cast the man behind him a sardonic smile before hefting his tray and heading back out.
He had caught sight of somebody that he could have sworn he'd seen before. A familiar face that he was sure he could have placed as somebody from the island. It might have just been coincidence, but in this case, he followed his gut instinct, approaching her with one of his most charming smiles, that hopefully even an eye patch couldn't mar for him. Leaning closer to her, he reached for her glass, whether or not she was finished with it.
"Need another drink, darling?" He asked, with a tone of voice that probably came off more like he was a member of the party looking to get lucky at the end of the night then a professional server of any kind.

She startled and looked up at him with wide blue eyes, face flushing as she took in both his appearance and tone. "Oh, that is...most appreciated appreciated, yes," she sighed at him in a lilting accent before her eyes widened and posture turned rigid.
The glass was taken from Finn, "Don't be wasteful," intoned a man's voice, bland and of no particular note. Stepping around the hunter was a man who seemed both very pale and very dark at once, but who's appearance was so entirely unremarkable that Finn would have difficulty describing anything about him later. He gave returned the glass to the girl who'd turned pale and small beside him. He gave Finn a polite, "Thank you anyway," and led the girl away, one black gloved hand gently guiding her elbow.
Several minutes later Finn and Fini would feel a profound sense of relief, as if a tension they hadn't been aware of had been released. A terrible danger had passed. Neither would see either man nor girl again that night.

Fini took the time to wash the tray off before setting it out to dry and grabbing a new one. She avoided drinks this trip, taking some of the appetizers and small refreshments to taste. She gave little flirtatious looks to those she offered something off her tray to, always keeping a look out for anything that might be what they were looking for. So far, they'd not found a damn thing.
Or... maybe she had spoken too soon? She caught sight of Finn moving towards someone, and kept him in her sights while he checked it out. She didn't make any movements towards him, continuing to serve the guests. Though when someone just seemed to appear behind Finn - not even she had seen where he'd come from - Fini felt her muscles tense up.
Play it cool. Do your job.
Exhaling slowly, the trainee offered a table choice selections from her tray. She managed to give almost everything away at that single table, tossing sweet smiles and flirty looks until she had slowly made her way close enough to brush by Finn. A small touch, just to make sure everything was still good. And then Fini was off, heading towards another room. It was strange, she realized after passing him, that the tension seemed to have lightened so much.
Well, it had for a moment. Until some drunk crashed into her. No matter how hard she tried to avoid the drunk. It just wasn't to be. His drink splashed all up and down her shirt and oh look, this was exactly why she hated white shirts!
"Are you alright, sir?" She asked with a heavy sigh. That turned into a tight inhale as he got in her face. Oh hell no. "Sir," she tried to step back, only to have him advance. "Sir you are going to have to back off."

The man looked her up and down incredulously, "No you need to..." he wobbled slightly as he pointed and stumbled- toward her. "Yooooooou need to ******** heel, b***h. Do you know who I am? I own this ********' building. This, this block. This ********' town!! And you think, you can talk to me like that? You can't even serve a ********' drink! So yooou, maybe if you get down and ********' beg, I'll let you off the hook." The area had cleared, nearby guests carefully not noticing the confrontation.

He wobbled, and she stepped back with that look of someone who feared the guy might fall on top of her. But he came closer anyways. And then her hackles were raised and Fini was seriously contemplating if she got paid enough for this s**t (a rhetorical question, obviously). She was also contemplating the intelligence of knocking the guy out with her tray.
"My sincerest apologies, sir. They left my leash at home." The last was mostly uttered under her breath. And there was no ******** way she was getting down and begging. Not unless hell froze over.
"Sir, I'm pretty sure we're all doing our job just fine, seeing as you're quite enjoying our choice selections of alcohol." Fini attempted to put a little space between them again. "Perhaps you'd like me to fetch you some more? Or a pitcher of water?"

"Don't you take that ******** tone with me! You think you're ********' clever?!" The man was obviously not appeased, and likely offended by both the alcohol comment and the offer of water, and he advanced further into her space.

She was really tired of having pissy guests yell in her face. And there was no trying to offer this one a sweet smile anymore. Fini made no effort to hide that she was getting annoyed. Nor did she hide the fact she totally pulled the tray up between them, as a sort of 'barrier'. She gave him a look. "Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to sit down." Or fall down. She was okay with that too. Whichever happened first. Preferably before she wound up using that tray for more than a shield.

The man looked ready to pull something out of his jacket when another, much larger man took his arm, "Hey, hey now Mitty, no need for that. Throwing down with the help, and practically a little girl at that." He clapped the drunk man on the back hard and began to lead him away. "Kids these days don't know how to show proper respect, but you shouldn't have to go down to their level, you know? We'll just make sure she gets fired at the end of the night and makes sure this follows her for awhile when she tries to get work. Nice and clean, and an important lesson learned without the need for violence. You look a bit pale, c'mon, let get some joy in you, we got some..."
As they moved away the party went on, though a few people gave Fini bemused, pitying looks as she continued to work.

He could not shake the feeling that he knew the woman from somewhere, had seen her before, and felt the need to say something to ask her as much. He didn't get a chance to do this, the glass taken from his hand quite deftly, leaving him bewildered, and then tense as the man who had procured it from Finn's grip came into view. He didn't know the man, and for some reason could barely make himself look at him. There was nothing significant about the man, no features that Finn could even pinpoint as being discerning in any way. He was simply a man, telling his woman what to do, and before Finn knew what was happening, they were both gone.
Relief swept through him, surprising, as he realized that he had felt like he'd been in extreme danger only moments before. But why? There had been no reason to believe that man knew what he was there for, and the woman had not even a spark of recognition in her eyes when she looked at him. Clearly, this was not the time to jump to any conclusions that his cover had been blown.
Still, he couldn't quite shake the feeling, even as he turned away, momentarily thrown off of his game, standing still when he should have instead been going about his business, doing his duty, acting as a waiter for this event while also searching for the location of the runic weapon.
A commotion caught his attention, and held it when he realized that it centered around Fini. His hands clutched into fists at his sides, and his eye narrowed. He began to make his way over, ready to punch the drunken a*****e in his stupid, loud, disgusting mouth, when he stopped, and realized what he was doing.
And also realized that he was being watched.
Oh yes, he could feel those eyes burning on him before he even turned and caught a glimpse. A suspicious gaze, or maybe just one of a man ready to intervene should more trouble go down. Either way, Finn reminded himself that now wasn't the time, Fini could and would just have to take care of herself.
He couldn't even afford to pass her a glance as he pretended to be busy gathering up used napkins to take back to the kitchen with him to dispose of.
