It was a long and hard day out training, and a shower was exactly what she needed. She rinsed off the dirt and sweat from the day. It was only half way through the day but she was ready to crash. She hadn't worked this hard in a really long time, she as honestly a little out of shape. She knew that the training was going to be long and hard but she knew she needed it. Classes were next, she was a little more ready for that but the training was a little intense for now.
As she approached her door she felt like something was off. She felt a little uneasy, there just wasn't something right. She opened her door, tossing her towel into the hamper and then pausing to take in everything. There wasn't really anything out of place that she could tell of anyway.
You're paranoid Princess.
Neci's voice chimed in her ear, she gritted her teeth for a moment. For far this weapon thing wasn't working out too amazingly. It was working sure but she wasn't that sure how she felt about it. But she wasn't even sure she had a choice.
Nope, you don't.
Harlow chuckled a little before she slid her boots off of her feet and then started to put her stuff away, sliding her bag off of her shoulder, as she did something caught her eye. There were some things out of place, there was something new there as well, a note and a sticker. Some one was in her room!
It was 7 and she swung open the door for the mist lounge. She wasn't sure who she was looking for, it was really hard to tell just by some one's hand writing... She looked at the note making sure that she got the right time. She consulted her phone, there wasn't really anyone in here, and the others that were in here weren't paying attention to whoever was talking in (Making her assume that they weren't the ones that she was looking for). She sighed, she was hoping this wasn't some kind of prank. She made her way over to a couch where she settled down waiting for whoever she was looking for.

The most noticeable thing about the Mist Lounge was that it was empty save for one lounging figure, a tanned teen who had at least a foot of space from where her baby blue socks ended and where the other arm laid. It wouldn't have been hard to think she was just a pile of forgotten clothes on the furniture, though, given how baggy and ill-fitted they seemed on her and how little skin was showing beneath them. Even her head was bundled up by a pink scarf, like a messy version of a hijab, but even then no hair showed. She stirred when the door opened and, as Harlow entered, slowly got herself to sit up with a wince as if her body was stiff.
Then again, Stormy had been lying there almost corpse-like for a while, daydreaming of better times up at the ceiling.
The coffee table before her, comparatively, seemed downright lively, with a few items confiscated from the cafeteria (utensils, several pudding cups, a large turkey leg, and a few orange wedges) as well as a collection of iceberg lettuce in one plastic salad bowl and a couple of small bread loaves in another. Water bottles and packets of various dressings sat next to them as did napkins. Aside from the water and pudding, though, the entire meal was only satisfying for one person.
"Hi, Harlow," she greeted, her voice strained either from disuse or abuse. She cleared her throat to try and fix it, though it did little, offering the Mist a tired smile. (Really, all of her seemed tired, though.) "I'm not sure if you got dinner yet, but I figured just in case, y'know . . ."
She trailed away, seeming to lose focus for a moment before coming back. "Thanks for coming. Like it said on the card, I'm Stormy. Like it better than my actual name," she explained. "Lots of funny names here. Heard there's actually someone called Justin Case and a Moon called Luna, even got someone called Ravensgrove recently. Harlow Rowan's interesting, too. Very solid, almost thought you were a guy, lots of long vowel sounds." Stormy opened her mouth as if to sound them out as an example, gave it a second thought that maybe she ought to tone it back for the newbie.
(As if breaking into Harlow's room to deliver a card wasn't something to tone back.)
"I, um . . . So . . . feel free to eat?" she suggested, trying to look more spirited.

Harlow was surprised as the woman moved, and then started talking to her. She wasn't really expecting to be next to the person that she was supposed to be meeting. (Or at least so far that was who she was assuming that is who she was meeting). Harlow sat up some and a small smile formed on her face. She looked down at the food, there wasn't much but that was okay she wasn't really that hungry at the moment. "I'm not that hungry, but the pudding looks great." She grinned at the other woman reaching out for one of the puddings pulling the plastic off of the top.
She shifted herself and pulled one of her legs under her body before nodding toward Stormy. "Thank you very much!" She listened to what the other had to say aobut the names around here. She hadn't really met anyone else so she wasn't caught up on the whole name situation. "I like Stormy!" She laughed before shrugging as the other talked about her name. "I've gotten that before, I do like my name though." She dipped her spoon into pudding and then drove it into her mouth. She swallowed before talking again. "So why me?" she asked with a small laugh, she was hoping the other understood what she was referencing. Harlow was confused on why all people she had her room broken into. She figured that it was because she was new but then again she couldn't be so sure. The people that she had met had all been a little odd. Which was fine with her! She loved meeting all of the different people and seeing the different personalities around here.

Stormy became a little more relaxed once it was evident her social awkwardness wasn't a turn off. "'Cause you're Mist of course," she replied with a little smile, taking and cradling one of the water bottles in her lap. "Which means we should get to know each other~ We're forgotten a lot since we don't specialize like the other divisions do, but don't let anyone tell you we're not important, mkay? Plus not just anyone gets to be taught how to lockpick." She winked. "Technically only Mist hunters should have lockpick sets, not trainees like you and me, but I won't tell if you don't."
She paused, then added sheepishly, "Sorry about that, by the way. I promise I didn't do anything except leave that card. It's good practice, plus I thought it'd be a fun way to introduce myself..."
< < Through an invasion of privacy, > > Thane drawled.
"A-Anyway, um, so you're new! I'm not sure if anyone's really given you the Deus Welcome Tour or information or stuff, but in case not, here I am!" Stormy sat up and continued to force herself to seem more lively, even though she acutely felt the bags under her eyes. "How's the adjustment going?"

Harlow was glad to see that Stormy was starting to get comfortable. She didn't like to make other people uncomfortable, she was the type of person even though she felt slightly uncomfortable she did her best to make everyone else around her comfortable. She listened carefully to the advice, did others really say that Mist Hunters weren't important? Oh no. she was hoping this sure was the right decision. But they could lock pick? Well that was always good, that sounded like a really neat thing to know. "Well I will make sure to remember that!" She wasn't going to let anyone tell her otherwise! That was one thing of advice that she was going to take seriously. She then laughed at the comment about not telling anyone. "Tell what?" She teased with a wink.
She smiled a little, she wasn't sure if they should talk about the whole breaking into the room thing. She didn't really mind too horribly. The only important thing she had in there was her journal, but that didn't appear to be messed with as far as she could tell. "It's no big deal! I mean... I'm not going to encourage anyone to do it but hey no harm done."
She probably cringed a little to Neci's comment but she attempted to shrug it off and listen to what Stormy was saying. She was glad to be having some one so kind and talk to her so nicely. Maybe she was going to leave with a friend? Okay maybe the start of a friendship? She was bad at this friend thing, at least with girls anyway. "Oh! Well I'm not sure, I mean I've been learning stuff but I'm not sure how much I know about." She finished up her pudding cup and placed it on the table grabbing a water bottle herself. "Adjusting is... interesting," she started pausing before continuing. 'I miss home a little... and it's really hot here compared to where I come from. I think that is my bigger challenge... And going from knowing everyone to knowing no one is a little hard too, but I guess you could say I'm adjusting." She wasn't that sure if she should mention not getting along very well with her weapon friend.Ol-j-man Oh my god. I looked at Stormy's journal and I wanted to tell you that when I first saw it I gained a new favorite quote *O*

She bobbed her head several times as Harlow spoke. "It is hard, no lie," Stormy agreed sympathetically. "Sort of reminded me of going to high school in a new state: you don't know anyone, you don't know the place, and everything's still expected about you. Throw in some pointy talking weapons and the fact that not everyone here is nice exactly, and it's a lot harder."
But she was getting to help, that was what mattered. She was out of Gale's house and pretending to be a fully functional member of Deus ex Machina for an evening. Helping people. It gave Stormy a little extra spark in her eyes.
"So, um, d'you mind telling me a little about yourself? If that helps?" She fiddled with her water bottle. "How's your weapon, for instance? And where'd you live before signing on the dotted line?" Harlow had mentioned the temperature, so probably not somewhere tropical like the island.

"Yeah some of the others around here are... cold." She laughed a little, it was almost a nervous laugh honestly. All of this new stuff was really odd honestly. She was getting used to not only the environment but also a good part of her was getting used to the loss of her father still. Jumping into this maybe wasn't as good of a thing as she thought it might be but then again She was just going to find out eventually.
She had a feeling she was going to have to tell a little bit about herself. That is normally what happened when you met people. That was how it went normally anyway, she was imagining it was the same here at Deus. "I don't mind." She shifted her weight on to her other leg and raised a bottle to her lips and drank some before speaking. "Well I used to live in Alaska in a little fishing town. My mom died when I was young and I spent a lot of my time on a boat with my dad." The memories brought a small smile on her lips as she spoke but it was turning slowly into a smile that included a layer a sad. "He died recently... and well I'm here now." She shrugged, before cracking another laugh at the weapon comment. "Well I guess you could say the weapon thing... is going interestingly." She wasn't that sure how else to explain that... "Okay well, I guess you could say Neci is a big b***h."
"HEY! I resemble that!"
If Neci could smirk she would be right now. A large smirk ear to ear. On the other hand Harlow probably cringed for a moment. "I think to say the least our relationship is going to be a work in progress for now. May I ask the same questions to you?" She offered the question back the smile still warm on her face.

Cold was a nice way to put it for some, but she kept her lips sealed on that. It wasn't like Harlow wouldn't get to find out for herself, but the point of the meeting wasn't to make her closed off to the chance of meeting equally wonderful people like Stormy had, or to pull back the curtain and reveal the scabs. Nope, it was dinner and a friendly face to face tonight. No crazy people, no high probability of dying mission mentions.
No dead friends.
"Oooh, Land of the Midnight Sun," Stormy cooed. "I really like salmon, actually; this was meant to be!" Nevermind how random and insignificant it was, even the little connections made her feel better. Let her normalcy act have some credibility to it.
Her enthusiasm softened at the mention of Harlow's parents' deaths, however. "Sorry to hear. I'm sure they're in a better place at least." That's what she had kept telling herself to remember not to get bogged down by her own sorrows, which waited in the wings patiently. "We do good work here. It doesn't always look good on the field, and it doesn't always end well either, but the missions they send us on protect others." Or further some nebulous goal of the superiors, she didn't know anymore. The earth was (relatively) safe and that was what mattered more to her.
Stormy cracked a smile as she described her weapon, threading her fingers together. "You may~ Thane's . . . bracing," she replied after a moment of thought. "It's not as bad as it used to be, but it's not as smooth as others either--and that's after being here for a year and a half. It'll take time, but don't worry, it'll work out: your weapon chose you for a reason, y'know. Butt heads a few times and it'll get cleared up on its own."
The dracolich's bones popped in her head as he sighed, unamused. < < That, or they die struggling to adapt. It is as simple as that. > >
She ignored him. "I grew up in Aurora, Illinois. Both've my parents are from Spain, so I was learning two languages at the same time they were stumbling around English. Well, Mami was, Papi was just fine since he was a doctor. But, you know, it was an okay life: two siblings, a few friends, shadows and other inexplicable events. Some stuff happened here and there," here Stormy shrugged a little, "and eventually Deus just seemed like a better option than graduating high school." She kept things as vague as possible, because the less she thought about the past the better her mood would stay intact for this.
"Have you met any others yet?" Stormy asked curiously. "Not just Mist division, I mean."

Harlow's smile turned into a cheesy grin, it was the little things that made Harlow feel better as well some times, and this was one of those times. The idea of a possible friendship was the more exciting part honestly. "Apparently so!" She agreed.
"Well that is a relief to say the least." So far she felt like she was navigating all of this by herself at the moment. She had spent a good amount of the last few nights staring at the ceiling instead of sleeping. She knew it was going to get better that was for sure, or at least she was staying positive about it. As she talked to Stormy she could just tell that talking about the past wasn't something that anyone around here enjoyed talking about, from what she gathered so far. It was understandable... she didn't really enjoy it herself. "Well... we all end up where we belong in the end," she wasn't that sure if her comment was going to help anything that was for sure but you know the sentiment was never a harmful one.
Her question though made her feel a little embarrassed. Harlow was one of those people that was just completely out going normally. But that was when she knew some one. This whole being on her own thing made her a little more introverted... which made meeting people a little harder. And of course getting to know other newbies was awkward all the way around. She leaned back on the couch and rubbed the back of her neck, a nervous laugh escaping from her lips. "Well quite honestly I haven't really met anyone..." Her voice trailed She didn't want to seem like a loser... She did just get back but you know that was never a fun thing to admit. "I mean I haven't had many chances too yet either, I'm just being the awkward new girl so far."

She put on a smile. "That's the right attitude. And you're in the right division, of course~ Well, I mean, you can always switch if you don't like it, but I'm telling you: we're totally the best."
And the smallest. And the ones who had been under scrutiny thanks to one defecting leader, and probably still were for all she knew.
"S'okay to be a little awkward," Stormy told her, only then seeming to remember she was toying with a water bottle. She cracked the cap off and took a long draft. "There's more pleasant people than less pleasant, plus we're all a little weird in our own way. Mist is small too, like I said, so it's not always easy to find us. But!" She patted an arm of her couch. "This is the Mist Lounge, where only we're supposed to go; you can usually find our people here~ Or the training grounds for anyone really, they're pretty popular! Plus missions too, you'll find lots of people on those if you get duties together. We also have an Island version of Twitter if you like doing social media." It wasn't her cup of tea, but she felt it was important to mention.
"I'm pretty awkward myself in big groups," she added, going back to cradling the bottle and ignoring the food. "Really easy to lose yourself in them, you know? And sometimes I kinda just talk a lot about nothing when I get nervous, which I might do so just, you know, sorry about that, ahah . . ." Stormy accidentally sounded a little more strained in her chuckle than she meant and slumped back against the couch, finding comfort in the layers of her scarf wound about her head and neck. She seemed to fade a little, like she was losing energy.
"Um . . . I guess it's fair to ask: how much do you know so far about being a hunter? I mean, I know you're pretty new, but I dunno what the techs told you before you got your weapon."

Harlow prepared herself to listen carefully, she listened that was for sure, she listened to everything that Stormy had to say. She enjoyed learning about what Stormy had to say. Harlow was pretty sure it was what she needed at the moment. Just to talk to some one and learn about how this place worked and well honestly that she could make friends here.
"I'll keep that in mind!" She said with a laugh at the twitter thing. She also wasn't that sure how much it was for her but maybe it was going to be but hey she was going to have to figure that out herself. she shifted her weight as she sat and then let out a little laugh, but gave the other girl a warm and kind smile. "Don't worry! I like listening! It's not big deal!" She insisted, even using her hands to insist that it was okay. She took a moment to sip out of her water bottle before speaking. "I do fine in groups as long as I know some one... well honestly as long as I know some one I comfortable and know what I'm doing," She laughed a little at herself before adding, "When I don't know anyone though it's a completely different story."
The next question was something that she wasn't exactly expecting. It was an interesting question too. How much -did- she know about being a hunter? What was she getting herself into? Those were the kind of questions that she would ask herself at night when she was trying to sleep. Some nights she just questioned herself more and more about what she was doing here. She sat back and took a breath before blowing the breath out between her lips and laughing. "You know... not much really. I know there are monsters out there. I know that it is looking like one might have killed my father and well... I'm sitting here. I'm not sure what I'm getitng myself into but I guess I'll find out soon!"
She finished off her water bottle before looking up at Stormy. "You know... I really appreciate all of this."

Ah, good with groups, good! Deus had a way of forcing even the most hermitish of people to work with others, so it was better that Harlow was comfortable with it. "I believe in you!" Stormy cheered gently. "It's not hard at all to make friends once you're out there. Really, it just sort of happens without you noticing."
She wasn't surprised the new recruit didn't have a lot of information. It really did seem like the techs were starting to slack on the orientations . . . Stormy couldn't help but blink when she mentioned one having killed her father, however. It wasn't often that direct contact like that was made; most hunters came in with just visions of shadows or nightmares at worst. "Oh." Her face fell as she twiddled her fingers in her lap. So straight from her last parent dying to here? Pangs of sympathy filled her heart, though Stormy was far too awkward right now to try and reach out.
"I-It's nothing," she said more softly, edging around Harlow's thanks. "Nothing at all. Um . . . There's been a lot that's happened since I got here and more besides, but I'll try to summarize. First off, hmm . . . Did they tell you about the horsemen?"

"I mean I have learned stuff but I'm just having a hard time keeping up with it all, sorting out what is what and how it all works out." She offered the other girl, her expression seemed skeptical and she just didn't want to be misunderstood. "I mean I'm not too sure about it, but I'm just putting two and two together you know? I can't completely say what happened to him?" She shrugged as she sat back into the couch. She was still confused about a lot going on in her life but yet she was here. She was adjusting and it was the best that she could do right now.
She looked at Stormy a little confused, the tone seemed to shift and she wasn't that sure what was going on honestly. She listened quietly trying to figure out if there was something going on that she did, or if it was the subject that they were talking about. "Not really, it sounds a little familiar though." She had heard the word, or name, tossed around here or there from older students but there wasn't really that much about the subject that she knew.Ol-j-man No worries! I've been busy!

"No, yeah, I totally get that. I've been here for a year and a half and there are still some things I'm a little fuzzy on . . ." Did she say that already? Maybe. Stormy cursed herself and inwardly kicked her brain to get back into gear. "Sorry if I'm a little out of it," she told Harlow with an apologetic look. "I lost someone very close to me recently, and it's been hard."
< < It is no excuse. > > Thane echoed her own thoughts.
Realizing she hadn't even touched the food she brought, Stormy leaned over and grabbed a pudding cup and spoon, the water bottle roling out of her lap as she opened and took a few scoops to eat. "Anyway, um, horsemen! They're our sworn enemies," Stormy began explaining. "They're Halloween people who want to do all those evil things, y'know: enslave the human population, bring the apocalypse, reign in the new world after it, that sort of thing. There's four distinct clans: War is tribal and Amazonian, always have wings. I don't know a whole lot about them other than they like rabble rousing and specialize in making people go psychotic beserk. Famine is," she faltered for a moment at an uninvited memory, "is desert nomadish and kinda dead looking. They . . . really like insects, diseases, that sort of thing. Death is more Nordic, usually have on armor and stuff. I know zero else about them except that the leader of the Four Clans is a high priestess from there. And Conquest is really Chinese imperial, probably the easiest to spot--both 'cause've their attitude and what they wear. They like having bows as weapons too.
"You'll have to face some eventually, so my best advice is try not to be alone when it happens. They don't show mercy," Stormy added grimly, as if it really needed saying. "They have both weapons and the ability to summon mounts, normally horses of course but sometimes other things. With me so far?"

Ah, so that is what was going on. She was pretty concerned but now she felt like what was going on. She had loss some one close to her and she felt like she understood now. It made a lot of sense, she acted strange right after her father died as well. She was quiet for a few moments not sure if she was going to say anything else. She leaned forward toward the other woman and then smiled and nodded at her. "I'm sorry for your loss..." She hated when anyone said it to her but honestly she knew that there wasn't anything else to say. "I can honestly say that I've been there before, if you need to talk... I know we don't know each other very well but I'm a pretty good listener." She offered... awkwardly... but she awkwardly. She didn't want to make the girl uncomfortable.
As Stormy started to explain the horsemen Harlow sat back once again and she felt uncomfortable herself. What was she getting into? That was the question. she was really concerned, this was going to be something that she was going to run into... she was not prepared that is for sure. "Oh... my..." She stumbled out. They sounded extremely intimidating. She pulled her leg up under her, she just was all kinds of uncomfortable. She looked away for a moment unsure of how she felt... she now felt really uncomfortable about this.
