The war was over and the sound to retreat still echoed in his head, he had awoken to find himself at the healing tents instead on the battlefield. With strangers he didn't know looking after him. He had offered to help out moments before the call to retreat was made and now as they all relocated back into the safety of the forest, he was left to muse. Separated from his mate and the rest of his 'family' of sorts he was laying in a tent looking over the numerous fading wounds he had suffered during the fight.
A blind ice tribe...man had healed him and it made him wonder...should he of just stayed behind in the healing tents? What did he accomplish by being out in the battlefield? Other than healing two people and then getting knocked out of the fight? Was everyone else okay? That should of been his primary concern at the moment, but for the time being...he was indulging in self pity and was moping about his failure.
An arm across his eyes he took a deep breath and sighed, he needed to get up and go find them. His nephews as well should be his focus since they should off been the closest to him. BUt the drive to get up...wasn't there.

"Hey, you're awake..." Sawenah chimed from the foot of his bed, "You looked like you were having night terrors earlier, so I figured you might need someone to talk to~" she rubbed her hands together and returned her gaze to her lap, "Lilah always told me that if you have night terrors it means something is bothering you and you should talk to someone about it to get it off your chest." She looked up at him and smiled, "Then your dreams can be filled with happiness again."
She waited for a moment in silence, then whispered, "Was it about the war?" Sawenah didn't like talking about the war. The thought of thousands of men and women lining up to sign their life away to a foolish cause was unfathomable to her. She didn't see; couldn't see what a life under someone's rule was like to a free person.
Not to say she wasn't free herself, but all her life she had been between one household or another. Always being taken care of, watched after, told what to do and how to behave; it was what she was accustomed to. She heard life in Oba was like a golden city in the desert... An Oasis in the sand... Surely it couldn't be so bad if they are so well off, right?

Stiffening slightly he hadn't expected there to be some one int he same tent as him. Though why someone wouldn't be checking on him since he was injured seemed rather fool hardy as well. Removing his arm his eyes took a moment to adjust to the brightness before he moved to sit up, his gaze landing on the young woman at the foot of his cot. He offered a small shy smile before he turned slowly to let his feet lightly rest against the floor. "Night terrors?" The shifter male echo'd taking another deep breath, he use to suffer from such terrors when he was younger and his fear of insects nearly ruled his life. Looking to his hands, he could still see the bruises and cuts going up his arms, he had to wonder a moment how bad the rest of his body was but he wasn't just going to ignore the young woman to investigate. "I suppose you could say..it was due to the war.." He continued before looking back to the girl a small smile on his lips, "My name is Takoda, if I may inquire yours?"

“Sawenah,” she replied with a simple smile. “Looks like you took a beating out there.” She hadn’t realized how blunt that came out, and when it dawned on her a soft pink rolled across her face, “But better than a lot…” Her voice trailed off as her gaze shifted to the corner of the tent. She remembered rushing around the tents; helping to move the dead, bring supplies to the healers of the living. She didn’t want to think about what the battlefield was like.
“I’m not real good with advice or anything, but I got two ears that can listen… If you want to talk.” She was no stranger to just talking to people, the hardest part was trying to find someone with the time to listen. Well, considering the doc’s orders was to stay off her feet as much as possible, that left her with a lot of time to sit, and since she couldn’t run supplies while sitting, she could lend an ear to someone who might need it.

His lips felt dry, almost as if they were on the verge of cracking, he licked them trying to moisten them slightly even though he knew it was not really going to help but make it worse. He looked over his body idly at the comment about 'taking a beating' and it was true, even with the aid of magical healing there were still some ugly bruises here and there, a few puckered scars that were healing. The girl, who introduced herself as Sawenah was nice enough, but for whatever reason he felt that guilt balling up inside of him. He didn't want to be a burden to anyone, especially a young woman he just met. But perhaps due to the lingering silence he came to the conclusion that he should talk about it. His fears, what was gnawing him. It would just poison him if he didn't talk about it. To let his worries fester inside... Still. He looked up to Sawenah and offered a small faltering smile, "I suppose it is...for the best. I am sorry to take you away from what you may need to be doing. But I appreciate that you will talk and listen to me." He murmured, the thoughts floating around his head images of the war causing him to flinch slightly. "I suppose...it starts with the war. I am...a timid man by nature, the insects of the forest of Jahaur were enough to make me quake and hide. So the idea of being in a war..I thought I was prepared for what I would see. I am a healer after all...I have seen countless wounds, seen people die...but this...I was not prepared for."

Sawenah nodded slowly, “I don’t blame you… Insects are kind of scary, with their creepy crawly legs and such. I hate how they feel on my skin, but…” she paused, the words freezing I her mouth as her mind whirled with all she wanted to say, “You’re a healer, and you were on the battlefield?” she tipped her head to the side a little confused on how he made that connection. Realizing that pointing this out to him would probably not be helping the matter Sawenah promptly pressed her lips together, the rosy red rising in her cheeks.
“Mmm…” she hummed as chose her next words, taking the time to think them through; clearly being a therapist wasn’t her strong suit, but she enjoyed the company, “This must have been quite the growing experience for you… A complete change of pace from the life you lead. I’m sure you were useful to the wounded on the field, right? Keeping them out of the dark healing tents back here for sure. But-…” she looked at the dirt floor beneath her stool, “You were wounded in battle, that’s why you’re here. How did it happen? Most of the wounded at the old camp talked of a towering monster. I had a hard time understanding…” Shrugging her shoulders to her ears she let out a small shiver, “Just do what the healers tell you, I told myself… Kept me focused anyway.”

The bugs of Jahaur were more than a pest they were large nightmares. Most were carnivorous and hunted mammals and humans were not off that list. Just thinking of the large menzuri and the other various creatures caused a shiver to go up his spine but he gave her a long look as she seemed to question his decision to go onto the battlefield. Even now he had questioned his decision, but it had felt wrong to let everyone else go fight. A hand came up to run it through his hair in a nervous fashion. He tried to control his breathing to keep himself calm. Taking a long deep breath he let it out slowly and nodded his head. What Sawenah said was true, it was a huge change of pace for him and the memories were still fresh enough to make him flinch. "The battle..I had expected to be dodging arrows, swords and blades but..the people from Oba...brought terrifying beasts...One swing from their massive appendages would send people flying, they would stamp the earth and you'd swear that the earth was shaking in fear. Most of my cuts are from superficial objects...flying debri...rocks sticks and what not rather than direct physical blows from the creatures. " He continued pausing a moment as he reflected on things, "I felt...some pity for them though...they were trained animals brought to fight a war...we managed to get two of them down..though they did not die. I am not sure if I am happy or sad about it..."

Swords and arrows and such are to be expected on the battlefield, but facing down these monsters was definitely something the troops heading out to battle were not prepared for. She had seen them march out, and part of her desired to join and prayed that her efforts would make some difference. However her “self-perseverance” or cowardice to some held her back; after all she was just a young prentice that could barely take care of herself… how would she have fought giant monsters?
Sawenah slid off her chair, picking it up she shuffled on her heels, keeping her feet off the ground and made her way to Takoda’s side. Setting the chair down, she perched herself back on it and pulled her knees to her chest, “I’m sorry.” She whispered to him. Part of her wanted to jump on the bed and pull him into a hug, letting him know it would be alright, that he was alive and well and can clearly see the error of his ways; or perhaps areas to improve on… But she remained at his bedside with her chin on her knees, “You’re safe now… For the moment.”
What would happen to this camp if Oba decided to move, to engulf this camp in fire, smoke us out like rats and finish us off. What would happen to tendaji if everyone who came to this war passed on? Would others rise in their place? Is this the best and brightest warriors we have to offer? Look what happened to them, and this is the best we can do. A powerful force was resting at our borders and this is it…
Tears rushed down her face as she tried to hide her sobs. She was scared, and getting increasingly scared as she heard Takoda’s stories. What if there were more of those creatures? Maybe they just wanted to give us a taste of their might. What if there were more…

Another deep breath, the shifter male looked to the young girl and felt perhaps a bit foolish. Here she was being so kind and listening to him tell his tale of 'woe' about his fears and concerns..and yet he was just sitting here feeling sorry for himself. As she brought herself closer to him he felt somewhat better about it all. "I suppose you are right, I shouldn't be stuck on the past but more concerned about the future. I went into battle to try and prevent my comrades from falling, but I ended up being the one to fall instead. Perhaps I just need to train and then this sort of thing wouldn't happen next time." Takoda stated with a small nod of his head, though he was sure that everyone would rather there not be a next time. "I hope none of your family had to participate in this war, and I am hoping perhaps you may of seen my two nephews. I am concerned as they are just little ones and they don't really understand..war."

Sawenah wiped her eye with her gauntlet, “No, I’m kind of an “orphan”” she air quoted the word and curled tighter into a ball. “What family I can say I have is safely tucked away in their homes in Sauti; which I can’t return to.” Her knuckles blanched as she hugged her knees tighter, “To be entirely honest… I came here for a meal, and some place to sleep… Just so happened I picked up a few skills along the way. I’m fast and was able to run supplies; I learned how to dress wounds…” As she began listing her new found skills she suddenly felt so useless compared to some of the others bustling around taking care of things.
“Can’t say I’ve met too many people out here; you, the healer over a couple tents is Biroki.” Sawenah said while jutting a thumb over her shoulder in the direction she had originally traveled from. “I could keep an eye out for them; not that I can go far at the moment, but when my feet are better I could… What’s their names?” she began to relax her arms, even got a little antsy at the thought of being useful again.

His eyes widened in surprise at her response and then sorrow, he shouldn't of assumed that everyone had family, after all his own parents had passed away long ago. It was his turn to listen to her and thus he gave her a gentle expression and nodded his head slowly when she concluded. The name Biroki didn't ring any bells but then again he couldn't possibly know everyone who had come to join the madness. Giving a small smile he looked to her feet, she had mentioned that they had been hurt and even though he was far from being at one hundred percent his desire to help her overwhelmed his personal needs. "You are a strong woman, with traits I can admire. You are surviving in a harsh world right now you should be proud of the skills you have picked up and learned." Takoda began as he scooted a bit closer to Sawenah, "What happened to your feet? I am a healer...and I could help speed up your healing if you wished." He mentioned itching to help her, already a small bit of the weight on his shoulders lifting. Even if he had fallen during the war his desire to help others hadn't been crushed. He didn't touch her feet as he wanted to get her permission first, "My nephews are named Chandra and Aysun, they are shifter and leaf mix with white hair and tan skin."

Sawenah burst into laughter, “Survival? I know nothing of the sort… my mom set me on a caravan of wind travelers and told me to stick with them.” She scratched the back of her head, “The first night I bought these goggles because I had never been given so much coin in my life and I thought they were lovely… the next morning I found myself picked clean of everything but my goggles and the caravans were nowhere in sight.” She hugged her knees while recalling the difficult situation, “After three days of eating whatever I could that didn’t make me sick I found a group of “Warriors” I guess… After tailing them I found out they were going to a camp. I heard camp, my stomach growled at the thought of a decent meal, and I followed them.”
She had hoped that the armor she was wearing didn’t come in to question. It was newly acquired, and not in the way she was proud of. She was on her own in this world, and she knew that the dead certainly wouldn’t need them. Sawenah rubbed her hands together nervously and looked at her feet, “Well, Biroki did some healing magic on them… Put a salve on ‘em and wrapped ‘em. He also said that he wasn’t much of a healer, but wanted to do what he could for the war…” she let out a ‘Ha~’ but quickly clapped a mouth over her mouth and blushed, “Sorry… I was just thinking… You’re a healer that went to battle, and he’s a sage that stayed to heal… Looks like you were both doing a bit of growing!”
Releasing her knees she slowly stretched out her legs and set them delicately on the edge of his bed; far enough away where it wouldn’t be weird but close enough that he had access to peek if he chose to. “My sandals… They’re too small. I need some new leather for their soles.” She blushed and hoped her words were correct, “I was looking for some left-over leather scrap and didn’t see anything I could cut for my shoes. So I went without and cut my feet up something fierce.” Sawenah had listened about his nephews and nodded slowly, “I can’t say I met anyone by the name of Chandra or Aysun. There seems to be more mixed earthlings than I thought; which put me at ease, so I shouldn’t say I haven’t seen them… Just probably didn’t know who they were.”

Takoda gave a small chuckle at the comparison, and how both parties seemed to have gotten their roles mixed up, but still what was done was done he supposed. Listening to her story it sounded as if she had a a rough time. Having her stuff stolen and having to wander through the terrain using just her wits to survive. "I think you are selling yourself short, it takes a great amount of wit and skill to survive out on your own." Takoda managed with a small smile, his head turning to look at her feet that were bound. Raising a hand he lightly touched her foot, "Well perhaps its time I did some healing...I don't want to undo the hard work Biroki did for you but if you would allow me I could at least speed up the healing for you." He managed with a smile before it slightly turned to a frown. She was looking for leather to make shoes? Looking down at his own feet he knew that in Jahaur bare feet were essential running through the trees. His own feet were covered in just a slight slip of leather. He wished he had some shoes to give her. Giving a small thoughtful sound he realized that perhaps the only thing of worth he had was his books or his necklace. Fingering the stone and feather jewelery he knew the books may be more valuable but only to the right person. The necklace...probably would sell better. "I am sorry I don't have any leather, if you want the slips on my feet you are more than welcome to them, plus.." He went to lift the necklace up and over his head before he offered it to the young woman. "Here take this, you may be able to get something for it, even if its just a small amount."

Sawenah clapped her hands over her mouth, “I-I couldn’t… I’ll be alright. There is bound to be some scrap around here somewhere. You’re efforts coupled with Biroki’s is plenty for me. Once I’m back on my feet I can put more effort into finding leather. It’s out there… I’ve just been preoccupied with helping the healers get supplies from the old camp.”
She realized just how thick she had been laying on her woes and felt miserable, “I-I didn’t want to come off as… less fortunate… Guess I just ended up venting to you, I’m sorry. I don’t generally like talking about where I come from because it is… well… Hard, I guess.” Slumping in her chair she let out a sigh, “I really appreciate your offer and I will accept it if you insist, but I won’t sell it; that’s for sure. It’s far too pretty to end up in some strangers hands.”

Takoda smiled and shook his head at her flustered protesting, it was really quite adorable. Leaning forward he pressed the necklace into her hands before holding onto it for a moment. It felt...odd giving something that had once belonged to his mother to a girl he just met. Somehow though it felt like the right thing to do. It was like holding onto the necklace was holding onto a memory he couldn't quite make out anymore. "I don't want to influence what you do with it, but it did belong to my mother and ..your kind of remind me of her. I hope it helps you figure out the path you wish to travel. I normally live in Tale with my mate, you know if you ever need anything you can come visit me right?" He murmured slowly and quietly looking a bit embarrassed to be inviting a girl to their home. What would Jacinthus think? "So...would you like a second round of healing on your feet?" He offered with a smile, pushing his own problems aside as he often did when it came to the needs of others.
