At first it was just a small rumbling. The creatures felt it where the humans did not... There was a distinct sense of uneasiness about the weyr, and anything that could hide seemed to have done so. The dragons, too, sensed something amiss. But neither they nor their riders could predict what was to come.

The rumblings were followed by a shaking and shifting sensation, the earth itself moved beneath their very feet. Everything seemed to jump a foot to the side. It disrupted everything - crockery fell and broke, buildings shifted and those that were in poor repair crumpled in on themselves.

There was a call to evacuate: help everyone you could. Take only what you needed to survive! Do not linger!

OOC Notes:
Ista is experiencing an earthquake!
All characters are welcome in this event!
Later, there will be a thread opened for injuries
Have fun!

Ro'di

Word came from the top. A call for evacuation. Orthoth, organize the wings. They are to carry as many non-riders as each of them can handle safely. Get coordinates of where we are evacuating to from R'yn and make sure everyone has them clear but be quick! We don't know when the aftershocks will hit. He hadn't even heard of what damage the weyr might be in yet. Had any of the tunnel's collapsed? We're people trapped? His job though was to get those who could be evacuated out. The rescuing of trapped victims was the job of the Wherhandlers and he would leave them where their skills shone best.

Orthoth was already contacting the riders of their wing, ordering the wingseconds to organize and prepare for coordinates. To Gereth he asked We need coordinates for evacuation. Where are we headed? Where would they be safe enough from the tremors on an island?

Paige

Paige squealed as she was thrown to the hard stone floor of her barrack. Venaith's eyes were yellow in alarm as the gold weyrling stumbled, wings flared for balance and protection from items rolling off the shelves over their heads. What was THAT?! She nudged Paige, alarmed, on guard against attack, but not frightened.

Paige cradled her wrist, feeling bruising forming on her hip and shoulder where she'd hit the ground. Her elbow had taken the worst of the damage as she'd flung out her arm to catch herself and landed right on it. It probably wasn't broken, but the joint was already swelling and movement hurt. A quake? She stared up at the stone ceiling above them. Out! Out out! Paige cradled her injured arm against her stomach as panic urged them towards the exit to the weyrbowl.

Venaith skidded to a hault. Wait! We need to get the others out! She turned back to the hallway connecting all of the weyrling barracks together. baskets of glows had spilled, casting uneven and dimmed light down the hallway. Dust and noise also clogged their view. Still Venaith called out Siblingsmine! Mine says we must get outside! She turned in the opposite direction of the exit the young gold driven to claw at each door to make sure it's occupant was either already gone or on their way out.

Nooo WE need to get out! Paige tried to turn Venaith around. It wasn't that she was abandoning the rest of the clutch, but their part was getting themselves out alive, not playing the hero when they were just kids themselves. Venaith was not to be deterred though.

(Any weyrling can interact with Venaith clawing at their door if they're in their bunk biggrin The rest of my kidlets will come in a moment)

Wen

Wen shifted, pale gray eyes opening and rolled, tumbling onto the floor, weight spread out on his palms and toes. What... quake. He moved, keeping low to the floor to check on his blue, and seeing Wyleth unscathed opened his trunk, pulling out leathers and his weapons. He donned them, straps and buckles and ties, muscle memory taking over. He closed his trunk and pushed it under the bed before looking at Wyleth.

The blue replied, tail flickering and moved towards his rider, reaching out to touch Irith's mind and nodded.

Wen left the room, moving towards the Weyrling bowl and open air. Specially for dragons, Wyleth was small, frail, clumsy still on his feet. They needed to be outside... Wyleth needed to be somewhere safe before he helped the others. He was not going to be distracted. He added.

Daimon slept in the corner of the barracks, on the far side of the door. When the floor seemed to jump Daimon was pitched across the room, hitting the wall opposite him. His head hit the stone and started to bleed. What just happened? He rubbed his arm painfully. He was rattled, with a whole smattering of bruises and a nasty bump on his elbow. His hips, shoulder, and head were going to be sore in the morning, but he would be alright. That's when he heard a shrieking of pain inside his head. Kleimeeth!

A shower of stone and rubble had fallen where Kleimeeth was asleep. They may have grown a lot in the last few weeks, but Kleimeeth never seemed so small. Rolling onto his knees, Daimon scrambled over to her.
"Kleimeeth! Shells! Are you hurt?" He brushed dust and rubble off her face.
Not too badly, D'mon. she said, although her eyes were yellow in distress, and pain radiated from her mind into his. I seem to be trapped though.

As he got a closer look, Daimon could see the problem. The wall had started to destabilize, and although it hadn't completely collapsed yet, it had dumped a whole load of stones and ceiling beams over them. One of these was pinning Kleimeeth in place. If it had been Daimon, he would have been crushed. He moved in close and put a shoulder to the beam that was trapping her there, but it wouldn't budge. It looked like the walls were sagging into each other and might fall down at any moment. This was bad.

As he was starting to worry, Daimon heard a scratching on their door, and suddenly remembered the rest of the weyrlings.
"Hey! Hey! In here!" he shouted.
It's Veniath. Kleimeeth informed him. But she was not so keen on letting her clutchmate inside. She didn't want her siblings to see her like this. And besides, they could think of a way out of here themselves. She was sure of it!

But Daimon was in no mood to be prideful. He left her side just long enough to pull open the door. He was surprised to find a dragon behind it, and not a rider. He glanced around the door and noticed Paige behind her. "Kleimeeth's stuck." he told them, trying to keep his voice calm and straightforward. "Can you get help?"

Paige

See Paigemine?! We are needed and when we are needed we must not think of ourselves first! One good thing about being a gold; she was much larger than her clutchsiblings. Venaith gently pushed past Daimon and into the collapsed room.

Venaith it's not safe! The whites of her eyes showed as Paige watched her gold from out in the hallway.

Paige! Venaith turned orange eyes on her rider. Go find someone to help! Paige wasn't a dragon subject to a gold's command, but with the way she squeeked and reacted she might as well have been.

"I-I'll go find someone!" She stammered quickly to Daimon and bolted for the exit. I won't forgive you if you get hurt! Don't do anything till I get back!

Venaith could see the trouble her clutchsib was in and crooned reassuringly. Mine has gone for help Kleimeeth. Where are you stuck?

Paige ran as if her life depended on it (which it very well might considering the rickety state of that room.) "HELP! Kleimeeth is stuck! We need help!" She screamed to the weyrbowl, hoping for anyone to hear her and come to their aid.

When R'yn felt the floor shaking beneath him, at first he wondered what had Gereth so flustered: the bronze had been taken to pacing the weyrling barracks due to his' behavior. After a moment's glance, he recognized the situation and sent orders to evacuate as soon as possible with as little as possible. Belongings could be replaced. People and dragons were their priority.

Orthoth asks for coordinates, Gereth rumbled, craning his neck to glance at his rider. Here? The bronze sent an image of the mountainside. Here would be a safe spot. At R'yn's confirmation, the bronze sent the coordinates to Orthoth. Take the wings here, he said. It is the safest place on the island. The damage has not reached there. Be quick! Before there is another one!

Daimon and Kleimeeth

Daimon nodded at Paige as she left for help. From the look in her eyes, he could tell she was more concerned about her own dragon's safety, but Daimon couldn't blame her. With the walls threatening to fall in on them at any moment, even he was surprised to see the little gold rushing in to help. He wasn't going to waste time being grateful though. He was back at Kleimeeth's side in a second.

Kleimeeth inclined her head towards her sister, grateful for the help, though a little embarrassed. Here. Kleimeeth showed her with a mental picture, something they'd been practising in class. The beam cut across her body at an angle, her head and front two legs on one side, wings and hindquarters on the other. She couldn't pull herself through on either side, and the beam wouldn't budge. Buried in rubble on both sides, if felt as though it were twice as heavy as it actually was, which already wasn't light.

"What do we do?" he said, thinking out loud. It was too much for them to move alone. Some kind of wedge or lever? he thought.

Cami and Leith

Meanwhile, a gold's shriek pierced the minds of any who could hear it. It was unlike Leith to panic in an emergency. Normally, her first thought would be to her Weyr and to her duty. She would be rushing around, doing anything she could to help, regardless of personal danger. So something had to be very wrong for her to lose it like this.

Part of the cave wall in their weyr had collapsed, trapping Cami inside. And, unconscious and half burried, Cami wasn't responding to her calls. But none of this could the gold explain in her current state of panic. All she could express was her intense worry for her rider, in the only way she currently knew how.

((Gold in distress, if anyone feels like rescuing someone ;] ))

Ro'di

Here. Orthoth relayed the image to Ro'di and after getting confirmation, he sent it on to their riders with orders to be quick and thorough. Human and weyrling lives come first, he and Orthoth would bring supplies later. They had to stay and keep things organized and under control until the evacuation was finished. The wing was split into two groups, each lead by one of his wingseconds.

Alright. Let's go. Ro'di was as of yet oblivious to the drama in the weyrling barracks. It was just one of many. Already half his wing was full and he ordered his second to lead them between while he helped the rest prepare. Orthoth himself was kneeling, allowing people to strap hasty bundles of emergency supplies to his back.

Cai

Cai was in the infirmary. When wasn't he? He had his own room as a journeyman and with as few possessions as he had, it wasn't like there wasn't room for a small dragonling. It was even on the ground level so no stairs or cliffs could impede any traffic. Unfortunately, it was not one of the buildings deep within the sturdy mountain walls. Like the Weyrling barracks, it had an external addition that had been built later. Heavy slate slabs made up the roof, supported by an impressive network of heavy wooden beams. It was a safe structure under any normal circumstance, but a quake as severe as this one proved to be too much for the man made shelter.

A beam slipped. The outer corner of the infirmary crumbled into rubble. Cai screamed. At the first puff of dust from the shifting roof, Cai had flung himself over Genith, covering the small blue with his own body and as a consequence, the wooden beam had come down on his leg. FOCUS Cai mentally shouted in desperation even as a blood-curdling scream of pain tore it's way out of his throat. Genith couldn't panic! Cai's mind automatically walled off the pain from his leg, a euphoric feeling of disconnect replacing any sense of his body. The only thing he could know at that moment was Genith. There. Underneath him. Looking at him. Eyes grey. White. NO! Yellow. There! Focus! Stay!

Genith keened. Held by a tenuous thread of command from his. Fear and his rider's disoriented and shocked mind made the small blue tremble, his own going blank. Still. There was the command. The order. Stay. Don't move. Don't go. Stay.

((Another victim for those bold enough!))

Someone was stuck? T'rel was in the Weyrbowl, attempting to herd his Weyrlings to safety when he heard the shout. He raced to Paige. "Kleimeeth is stuck?" He echoed, eyes widening. Shards! One of his weyrlings were injured, and he hadn't thought to double check in the rush to have them leave the barracks. "Show me!" He demanded, taking her arm in attempt to comfort her, and to keep up with her in the crowd preparing for evacuation.

"Is Vennie alright?" He asked as an afterthought, suddenly worried for the gold. The gold was stubborn, but surely wouldn't do anything that would endanger her rider? "Show me," he said again. Finding Lute would have to wait. Shardit. This was one of those times, he decided, when duty to the Weyr: to his Weyrlings, outweighed any need he had to know whether his weyrmate was safe.

"Zellie! Find Rumith, locate Lute. Get her out of here! Fly straight!"

Paige

Venaith hummed, shifting her weight side to side as she looked for a way to free the green. She looked up at Daimon and thrummed despite not speaking with the young man she hoped he would be reassured. She would do what she could! Tell yours that mine comes. She found the Weyrlingmaster. With that Venaith dropped her wings low to her sides and lowered herself to the ground. She was larger than the green, and there wasn't much room on either side of her, but she shuffled forward on the side where the beam stuck higher into the air. If she could wedge herself in there, maybe she could push it up enough for Kleimeeth to get out or at least to make her a little more comfortable till more help came.

With her wings tucked out of the way, she just managed to get her shoulders under the edge of the beam. Forelegs and neck had fit fine, but the rest of her was just too much. Maybe being larger wasn't always better. Still, she had to try! Venaith pressed against the ground shoving her shoulders up and forward into the beam. Whether she made a difference or not was hard to tell. She was only a month old after all, not exactly at full strength just yet.

Venaith what are you doing?! Paige could feel Venaith straining to do something, but she couldn't tell what. Had more of the room collapsed? Paige gripped T'rel's arm, a distant look of terror clouding her eyes as she tugged him in the direction of the barracks and Daimon's weyr. "She's trying to help!"

Jemi
Like her partner, Jemi managed to weather the first quake without injury Irith whirled yellow giving slight distress hissing at the dust. Jemi muttered, opening her trunk and pulling out her amour, her weapons and like Wen, her trunk ended up stuffed under her bed.

Irith questioned, shifting and nodded. Outside where it was safe and nothing risk falling on her.

Jemi said and walked out of her room, walking briskly towards the exit and paused, watching Venaith slip into a room?

Jemi looked over her hatching and ordered.

Irith slumpt and nodded, hurrying towards the exit.

"Hey, what is going on here?" Jemi asked, walking into Daimon's and Kleimeeth's room.

Wen

Wen and Wyleth made it outside to the Weyrbowl without injury and into pure chaos it seemed. He slipped from T'rel's sight, settling a bit away with his blue and looked about, eyes half closed.

Wyleth tipped his head, body relaxing on the sands. His golden sister was in danger.

Wen snorted, hearing a flicker of sarcasm. He glanced about, looking over the people. They were missing people. Wen requested.

Wyleth snorted and shifted, sprawling out on the warm sands.

Kleimeeth and Daimon

"Ha! Good thought, Veniath!" he said, looking around at once for something he could use as a lever, eventually finding another long splinter of wood. With the small amout the beam was lifted, Daimon was able to slide it in closer to Kleimeeth's body.

You should tell Veniath to leave. he said to Kleimeeth. She had already helped enough. He didn't want her to risk her life of their behalf. And if Paige was bringing the weyrlingmaster, he would be able to help them if this didn't work.

Veniath, you should go. Mine thinks he may be able to free me now. You are in danger here. Kleimeeth relayed, adding her own sentiments to his. She let pride and gratitude underlie her words, but also worry. The message was clear; you've done enough.

His heart was racing as adreneline pumped through his system. He was about to push against the lever when another voice disctracted him. Someone from their weyrling group, he didn't remember her name, although he likely would after this. Daimon waved her over urgently.

"Perfect timing!" He shuffled along, making room for for another person. "Here, help me push this." With any luck, they'd all be out of here before the weyrlingmaster even got to them.

Lavi

Whenever disaster struck the Weyr, Lavi's thoughts always went to two places; the candidates.. and Navi. But because there were creche workers and all the Lower Caverns staff to take care of him, and only her to look out for the candidates, the barracks was the first place she went, as much as she wanted to head for the creche.

Despite it looking like it was about to collapse, Lavi rushed inside the building, where she would stay until she was sure every Candidate had made it safely outside. Their lack of dragons meant she couldn't just relay directions telepathically. "Candidates, quickly! Gather in the Weyrbowl. Take nothing with you and help anyone you can."

"A lever, clever." Jemi moved forward, setting in next to the young man and put her hands over the splintery wood. "Get going Veniath. You need to get out. We have it." She breathed and leaned down, pushing her weight and strenght down on the wood.

Irith

The large hefty green reached the open air of the Weyrbowl and moved swiftly to the smaller blue and his partner. Wen and Wyleth were both well known.

Wyleth shifted. He wiggled, inviting his green sister.

"Thanks." Daimon said quickly. He added his weight to hers, pushing with strength tripled by the massive amounts of adreneline that had been surging through his system since the earthquake started. Finally, with both their efforts, the beam pinning her buudged. Not much, but it moved.

Kleimeeth?
I'll try! The gap was still quite small, and her tail was still buried in rubble, but throwing her weight forward, she managed to wrench her tail free and squeeze through the tiny whole.

Clear?
I'm clear, D'mon.
"Thank Farrunth." Daimon dropped the lever with a massive amount of relief.
Are you hurt? he asked again, since he knew the first time she was lying to him.
I can walk.

"We're good. Go!" he told the others, since he expected Kleimeeth to be slower. He wished she was still small enough for him to carry her. The best he could was stand close to her so she could lean against him as she walked tenderly on damaged limbs.
