User ImageThe Squire of Pluto was no less confused about his place in the world following his strange trip into space than he had been before. He was aware that other knights fought for other things, but as far as he was concerned, his battle was limited to his life, to his friends, and to his carnival. That was all he needed to know, and all he wanted to protect.

Bigger things like space and all that... that was for someone else.

As far as the Negaverse went, they were his enemy. They killed and they did so for fun. He had seen the worst side of them at his carnival so long ago, and he never forgot. Every time he powered up he brought those dead souls with him, and it was for their memory, and those that might follow after them, that he continued to make himself stronger.

Tonight was no different. He patrolled with the hope of finding something Chaotic, something evil for him to defeat. He hoped each fight he found that it would be the push he needed to reach the next stage of his strength, to become a real knight. Maybe then he would be able to defend his home and friends effectively.

Maybe.

He was walking down a dark street, the lamps here flickering and obviously tampered with, so they did not shine in front of the run down, abused store fronts. This was clearly not a better part of town, but that did not bother Luxor very much. Maybe he would find the trouble he wanted here.

He still wasn’t sure what to make of any of this. Sarras, Page of the Cosmos and self-proclaimed most disgusted with his choice of uniform, knew that compared to others he may have been fortunate, considering that his ‘awakening’ had literally occurred within an hour of being dragged away by the mysterious ‘Code’ and thus was spoon fed a considerable amount of information, but that didn’t really make him feel any better about the situation he found himself in. He knew so much, and yet understood so little, but what he did get was enough to drive him into the streets this evening, even when this ridiculous uniform still haunted him.

He really hated this outfit. It was dainty, the colors were too feminine, and there were parts that felt rather tight, so tight in fact that the minute he’d throw a punch or kick that the fabric would rip. Not only would have have to endure the enemy mocking him for his appearance but to add insult to injury they would cackle themselves to death when he ripped a seam in his pants.

Perhaps that was part of the plan? Kill his enemy with laughter? Sarras sneered at the mere thought of it as he made his rounds, dinky little clay cup in hand and ridiculous attire making any thought or notion to stealth null and void. He wasn’t in the most cheerful of neighborhoods, so a near six foot tall man decked in white, pink and violet clothing were likely to turn a few heads.

He felt a familiar sensation within him, the same he felt when he was pulled to Olympus, though it wasn’t as potent. Which meant that maybe there was another knight nearby? That offered him some relief, at least. Better than an enemy seeing him like this! At least now he could ask a few questions and get a better understanding of whatever it was he was suppose to be doing. Maybe this other knight took better notes?

It didn’t take long to find the other knight, and though he seemed familiar from the strange meeting, Sarras didn’t think to approach him with a friendly smile or the same charm his brother might have attempted to do. No, he had a more practical approach, as he stepped into the open for the squire to see. “Name’s Sarras. You got a moment to talk?”

Luxor watched the other knight for a silent beat, frowning thoughtfully before he nodded his head in greeting. It was not the warmest welcome, but he could not be warm no matter how hard he tried. At least, not to anyone outside his very small circle of friends. Which was like two or three people, when he thought about it.

Well, whatever.

"What do you want to talk about?" the Squire of Pluto asked stiffly, folding his arms over his chest. He did not look impatient, really, though his body language would scream it if only his eyes reflected the same sort of emotion. His face was rather blank, besides the set scowl, and there was no real emotion behind the look. He seemed detached, almost bored, or at most just incapable of expressing whatever emotion might be in his head at the moment. He did not care about that, either. He watched the other with something that could almost pass for patience, though the line between that and annoyance was very thin.

He did want to meet and speak with other knights, though, if only to learn how they reacted to their powers and what they thought their duties were. His seemed simple enough, but all that babble from the code about them being united and whatever... it was all much more than he had imagined. He was content to stick to himself and protect his carnival, and leave the rest of the war to the others.

But he was also finding that he did not want to see other places, more people, hurt. Patrolling brought him away from his park, left it vulnerable, but he also could help more people out here. It was a toss up, and he wasn't sure yet which path to focus on.

It was immediately present to Sarras that the squire was not the most outgoing person, though at least he wasn't blatantly hostile. Perhaps it was the Texan in him that felt a little put off by such a stiff reaction and for a brief moment, he almost wanted to crack a joke about his own attire if he thought it would have helped open this guy up a little more. He'd be the butt of that joke, but at least then he wouldn't feel as though he was being an inconvenience to him.

"Well, nothin' if you're not in the mood for talkin', I suppose." Sarras wanted to mimic his stance out of habit, as it was a familiar one to him and one he sported often. However, he figured that it would probably agitate the situation, so he settled for a hand on hip stance, not too friendly a stance but at least not blatantly mocking him. No, that wasn't his goal and he had no right to mock anyone else for anything right now. Not when he looked the part of a giant cream puff. "Just figured that since you feel strong, much stronger than me, that you'd have some words of wisdom to pass down to your fellow knights. However, if you're too busy, I can be on my way. No need to waste your time with words..."

Though another thought came to mind. Maybe he was approaching the squire with the wrong kind of proposal. Maybe he didn't like talking with his mouth, but with his fists instead? Given the last two humiliating defeats he suffered from the youma, Sarras figured he needed help. And badly. "Would you prefer we spar instead? I'm still gettin' used to all of this and you look like you've been 'round the block. Want to take out some aggression?"

Luxor stared at him for a long moment, then shook his head and heaved a very slow sigh. He was terrible at meeting others, but he did not want to drive the knight away. They were supposed to be a team, or at the very least they were supposed to be able to talk to one another and help each other out if they needed it. Luxor, for all his lone wolf tendencies, would do much better if he at least had a network of others he could go to should the worst happen.

He had Zia. He had Ys. Maybe Megiddo. But not many others, and even then it was... he did not have the best relationships. Or rather, understanding of them.

"I can try... I'm not good at... talking to others, I guess. If I can help you with something I'll try. I'm not that familiar with most of what's going on, either. I'm just a Squire, not much different than you... but I could spar. That would probably be better for both of us." He looked like he had said far too much, and had worn himself out. That was a large portion of his vocabulary, all used up. He nodded his head and balled his hands into fists, stretching his fingers a bit.

A nice fight, without anything on the line, sounded like a good idea.

"Well, if you don't want to talk, then don't talk. Maybe you're just a man of action," Sarras said, already cracking his knuckles and rotating his shoulders, making it clear that he was definitely looking forward to the spar more than anything else this evening. The Texan blood in him was a little too eager for throw a few fists around and that was the one benefit of attaining this powered alter-ego of his was that it gave him the chance to put his aggressive tendencies to good use. They'd be better use against the Negaverse and not a fellow knight, but maybe a few swings and a black eye would help loosen those lips a little. "It was wrong for me to assume you'd know more than a newbie page anyways..."

After all, he wasn't certain how the whole progression of rank went, so perhaps the stronger aura he put off didn't mean all that much. The squire said so himself! Regardless, he'd at least know the fighting style of one of his fellow knights, or perhaps he'd learn which knights not to mess with tonight. Either way, he was going to leave with a lesson.

"Ready, then? Or you wanna take it somewhere private so that no one hears our yelps of pain?"

Sarras was perfectly fine with either... he didn't care much for if someone saw his girlish attire now- if anyone did and gave him a hard time? Then he'd reward their efforts with a black eye and a sore groin.

Luxor nodded his head.

Maybe that was a better way to describe him. Actions spoke louder than words, right? Since he was too bad with words to really be effective at it, then he needed to put more effort into the actions he used. A few people were able to see through him and understand him like friends would do, but it was more and more difficult to let himself show through.

He was starting to care a lot more about what others thought of him, though. It was always easier before, when he wanted to be alone and didn't care if others wanted to get to know him or not. Now he had different responsibilities, to his friends and to the war he was a part of.

At least this guy seemed okay with his short attitude and grumpy air. Though the egging was not all that appreciated, Luxor had been the one to say he didn't know anything.

"Here is fine," he said, lifting his fists and motioning with a nod for the other to do the same. "Show me what you can do."

In a perfect world, everyone would have been friends and there'd be no need to raise their fists or weapons at one another, but Sarras wasn't going to kid himself. He was no idealistic fool, even he if looked the part, and there were just some things that they had to settle with their fists. Sarras understood that more than most people, for better or for worse, so while others might not have approved of the way he rose his fists against an ally, he had long since decided he didn't care what they thought on that matter. Appearance-wise, yes he cared, but quick to spar against an ally? They could go suck an egg.

With their battlefield determined and Luxor giving the go-ahead, Sarras went into the offensive, knowing that he was likely leaving himself open to attack, but that was the risk that came with making the first move. Admittedly he may have had some fighting experience on his own, he knew it meant little in this kind of setting. If it meant being beaten down by an ally to learn a few lessons, then he'd accept the beatdown that was coming his way. Better an ally that would let him live and learn from his mistakes, than an enemy that would rip his starseed and devour it before his very eyes.

He went for something simple, going for a left jab and preparing a right hook for if that failed to connect. Start with the basics...

For Luxor, fighting was just another way to blow off steam. He would rather pour his focus into his performances at the Carnival, and getting that place up and running again, but if he was asked to take a time out to do something like this, he would not complain about it.

He liked fighting, really, and it was not easy for him to get fights that were not actually... dangerous.

Friendly fights, that were on purpose and with a point to them. Those were the kinds he was getting more of, ever since becoming a part of this war and even more now that he was a Squire and had more to offer others. He was understanding his role a little bit more, too. Maybe.

Luxor was a fast and strong opponent. He spent a lot of his civilian life, after all, perfected his body and performing on the trapeze and other shows in his theme park. He was agile, despite his weight, and surprisingly light on his toes even though he looked muscular and slow. He also knew how to take and give a punch, but that was mostly due to how his brain just turned off when he was in a fight, and he turned into a small, non-green version of the Hulk.

Though, right now he was not angry.

Luxor lifted his arm to block the hit coming from Sarras, and swung his own mighty fist to counter. He saw the hook that was coming his way but instead of blocking or trying to dodge it, he just powered his fist forward as fast and hard as he could, as if he aimed to stop the attack by smashing the other's face in.

That was a fair tactic, right?

Despite his rather bulky appearance beneath the ridiculous attire, Sarras wasn't skilled in hand to hand combat and the only kind of 'combat' training he's had were with a rifle and the school yard brawls when another person's taunts simply could not be ignored and his pride dictated that the only solution was to use his fists. He didn't usually resort to that, despite his passive-aggressive nature and the muscles he worked hard to tone up were more for show and tell than practical use. It was meant to ward off would-be attackers and help further differentiate himself from his twin, not so much for actual fighting, but that didn't mean he didn't bluff every so often.

Maybe that'd work against a normal person, but not so much against another knight, and especially against one like Luxor. Because the moment the fight had started, the squire really let him have it, going straight for the face and not even bothering to telegraph or warn him that he was going for it. It seemed fair, considering he was going in first, but perhaps it was some bit of vanity that got the better of him, simply because he felt that such a blow should have been reserved for enemies, not so much sparring partners. Apparently this guy felt otherwise.

Or maybe it was the fact that Luxor got the hit first before he could and it served as a reminder of just how out of his league he was when he was brought into this war. Either way, the blow to his face connected and it did more than leave him him seeing stars for a moment, as it had also left his pride with a nasty sting. He recoiled from the blow and tried to recover, never able to follow up on his strike and now deciding to fall back to the defensive... at least until Luxor and his three clones stopped spinning.

Luxor was not the kind of guy who knew how to hold back. He was also not very good with other people, and he did not think he would be doing the other knight any justice by going easy on him. He wanted to fight like an enemy would, and give him a reason to really push himself and defend or attack to the best of his ability. The only way to do that was to give him the respect he deserved and attack like Luxor was not expecting to win.

Or maybe he could have fought like a man in a sparring match, not looking to injure anyone else and just wanting to trade a few friendly blows. He just had no experience in things like that, so those thoughts never popped up in his head. He had only a few friends and allies that he talked to regularly enough, and they did not spend a lot of time sparring.

He was still learning how to be a team player.

But he landed his hit and did not stop to feel bad about it until after he charged forward and took another swing, this time for poor Sarras' gut. He then pulled himself out of his own attack motions, suddenly breaking the flow he had gotten into and stumbling backwards a bit, though his feet quickly caught up with his intention and he braced himself again. He lifted his fists in front of him and watched the other, frowning seriously.

"Sorry," he said in so stiff and bland a way it was hard to think he actually meant it, though he really did. At least it did not sound wholly sarcastic, either, and was just caught in this awkward realm of having no emotion behind it whatsoever. It was open to interpretation. "You attack me now."

By the time Luxor apologized, the stars in front of Sarras' vision were finally beginning to fade away, and he had to admit that he rather liked, and hated, this guy. Yes, it hurt like hell, yes, he didn't hold anything back, but it was what he was expecting, and probably what he deserved for picking a fight with a guy beyond his rank. It was a respectable trait, to say the least, and that's what kept Sarras from losing his temper about being bested so quickly.

He ran his tongue over his lip first, before wiping it with the back of his sleeve, surprised that there wasn't any blood dripping from either his nose or lip when he pulled back. At least, not yet. He had a feeling that one, or both of them, would have been decorated with blood before the end of the evening, and that was perfectly fine with him.

"Don't be sorry," Sarras said with a grunt, spitting out some excess saliva before pulling himself back into a combative position. In all honesty, he was surprised he even apologized, though he suspected he didn't really mean it. This guy meant business, and so would he. He lashed out, hearing the squire giving him permission to do so, and that might have dug under his skin a little. Like he needed someone to tell him to strike back? He aimed his next strike for Luxor's face, hoping to return the favor in kind. This time, he was determined to throw all of his strength into it, deciding not to hold back since it was clear that Luxor wouldn't offer him the same courtesy.

Luxor watched the other knight passively, always impossible to read. If he was enjoying the fight or not was any ones guess, save Luxor alone. He was the only one with the unfair advantage of being inside his own head, where he could hear his own thoughts and feel, technically, what emotional ranges he was capable of.

Even then, it was limited.

Still, he did feel bad for hitting the other, and he was, in fact, doing his best to help and to do a useful job as a sparring partner. He had terrible trouble showing his actual concern or how invested he might have been, but he did his best to let his actions reflect that. A lot of the time it was not enough, and he made more enemies than friends, but as long as they were not trying to punch him in the face for real, without his consent, he considered it a win.

Luxor was surprised when the other attacked full force this time, though it was what he wanted. He did not have quite enough time to dodge, and took the hit to his jaw. He jerked his head sideways, but he was already swinging his own fist out and let the momentum his arm had gathered carry it through, aiming for Sarras' midsection. He had to keep up his offense, so it seemed like a real fight, and Sarras could work on his reflexes and even just taking a hit.

See. Luxor was helping.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 12, 2014 10:17 pm

Sarras could play the part of the professional business when it was necessary, even at the expense of bottling up his anger and frustrations. While taking a more diplomatic approach was seen as the wiser course of action, there was nothing more satisfying than a good ol' punch to the face. The feel of his knuckles slamming against Luxor's jaw was definitely a gratifying feeling and he felt that he had avenged the insult that was previously inflicted upon him, but it was foolish to think it'd stop there. If fights could be won with a single punch, then this fight would have ended on the first round, and it wouldn't have been in his favor...

He learned this lesson a little too late, as the punch to his stomach knocked the wind and the momentum right out of him. He let out a pained gasp and tried to counter it, or follow up with another punch, but as strong as he though he was, he couldn't manage it. He simply gave a breathless cough and soon found himself on the ground at Luxor's feet, gasping for air and trying so hard not to want to just curl into a wall from the punch. He wasn't a scrawny guy, not in the least, but what good were those abs of his if they didn't deflect the fist?

"s**t..."

"You'll have to work on your defenses... I could pummel you now, if I wanted. If nothing else, stay on your feet."

Luxor moved to help the other up, offering him a stiff hand and a bland look. He was not going to keep attacking, reminding himself that this was not a serious fight, and he was just trying to help. He did have strong instincts to keep going, though: he found he rather liked brawling, and just letting go in a fight was always a hoot.

He also knew it was dangerous to enjoy something like that. Being a knight, powering up: it was a job. He had to do his job and be detached enough to stay professional and objective. He often let his bad moods get the better of him anyway, but if he could control it, he definitely needed to try.

"Are you alright?"
