12. A beautiful red bird has met an unfortunate end here. Success!
whispers softly
Whispers had silently snuck away early in the morning from her brother's watch and finally made her way to Never Idle's place. A small crowd had already gathered to hear what he had to say. This time too, were items that could be found scattered all over the swamp. Most of which were given by mother nature. She like, many, accepted he meti's request and dispersed from the crowd.
With Never Idle being active again, she could barely hold in her excitement to wait and see what sort of marvelous things and peculiar trinkets would be crafted at the end.
The doe was looking for small stones near the pond when something bright and red caught her eye between the berry bushes on the ground. "What is this?" she asked out loud, and walked over to inspect it. It was a red songbird that laid on its side. Lightly, she nudged the bird with her hoof. It did not get up or fly away. It just laid there, lifeless. "Dead......" she whispered. Much to her luck, even if it was an unfortunate sight, it was one of the essential items the meti had wanted. She picked the dead bird up by the neck with her teeth and carried it back to Idle's place as quickly as she could. There was no way that she would pluck the bright red feathers off of the bird herself.

28. Some of the trees in the Swamp produce leaves as large as an animal hide. You find one now, but climbing up the roots and standing on your hindlegs to procure the perfect specimen is exhausting, and you're out of energy for the day. Try again tomorrow. Success!
Whispers had a fragile frame and was not able to carry so much weight on her own. She knew she wouldn't make it back on time if she had gathered three items first then bring it all back at once.
Quickly, with the dead bird in her mouth, she found Never Idle's place again but ran past it until she found a big dead tree stem a few miles away from her target location. One end of the stem got hollowed out by termites and she scattered soil all over the place with her hooves. Lightly, she placed the bird down and covered it with dry branches and dead leaves.
She scanned her surroundings and noticed that on the other side of the fallen tree stem, were trees that grew very broad leaves. Enough to cover her entire body! But to get a hold of those leaves, a lot of effort was required since they only grow high up on the trees' barks. "Oh.. I don't know if I reach that high..." she trifled anxiously and she made her way over to them. Whispers inspected the trees and tried to pick out the shortest one of them all. Carefully, she placed her front hooves onto the tree's thick root and climbed up. Again she placed her front hooves onto the tree. This time against the thick stem and used all the strength she had to stretch herself higher and bit onto the closest leaf. She pulled in a downward motion. At first it did not snap off but after six tries, which seemed like an eternity to her, Whispers managed to wear it down and snapped it off of the tree.
She was so drained of energy that she lost her balance after the last pull and tumbled down onto the soil. The broad leaf fell down beside her and remained motionless. Whispers was tired and sweat dripped all over her body. The chore seemed to have taken her all day since the sun had started to set already.
At least, somehow, she miraculously managed to acquire the giant piece of leaf all on her own. Afraid of someone stealing it away from her, she rolled herself onto it and laid there. Slowly, her eyelids became heavy and she closed her eyes as she drifted off into a deep sleep.

20. You stumble on a friend and get distracted talking (either invite someone in for a few posts, or use one of your other Kin or an NPC).
A new day has come and Whispers woke up with a slow start. She looked under herself and noticed that the giant leaf was still trapped under her weight. Smiling a little, she got up and began to drag the leaf over to the hollow tree stem. "One more thing left to get and I can take another break."

inner beauty
Before Whispers could make another move, there was rustling in the bushes and a zikwa popped out into the clearing.
He looked rather nervous being seen by other kind of kin other than his own.

Whispers noticed him and fell in love with the pattern on his skin. She wants to know more about the zikwa since she only had ever seen one of them: her great great great grandmother back home.
Not sure how that species would react around her, she sang a soft soothing lullaby to try and grab his attention. She wasn't sure if that would work, but gave it a try anyway and she stood there still as a tree.

Inner Beauty flicked his ears as he listened to the sound. It was soothing but not threatening. He too, stood still and did not move. His eyes met the meti's and he gave her a nod.

Whispers watched the zikwa's reaction as she sang. He didn't seem to be startled by her voice.
Slowly, step by step, she inched closer his way and stopped again a meter apart from each other. It would be such a loss if he ran away from her at the last minute.
The song had ended and she just stood there. "Please don't go," she whispered. "I mean no harm."

Again the zikwa flicked his ears. He wasn't sure what to say to such a fragile looking doe and nodded again.
He wondered why she was carrying such a big leaf around on her own. And that's when it clicked. Never Idle. He had seen that meti around when he was young.
"Never Idle," he whispered back at her. "Never Idle is starting a new project, isn't he?"

She was not surprised that the zikwa knew of him. That only meant that he lives around here somewhere in the swamp. Others that had traveled their way into the swamp may not of heard about him at all though.
"Why. Yes he is," she whispered again. "I found two items now. One more and I could take a longer break until he asks us to get things again."
Be my friend! is what Whispers really wanted to say to him, but she was afraid she would scare him away with such a straight forward request.
"Um... you think we could meet again when we have gathered enough items for Idle? I would love to listen to what you have to say once his project is finished." She did it. She said it.

Inner Beauty did not respond to her. He lowered his head and helped himself to fresh saplings.
From the corner of his eye he could see that she was still watching him. Lifting his head up again, he shifted positions and stared right at her.
"Okay," was all he said. He nodded again and ran away before the doe could reply.

Whispers was happy and sad at the same time. Happy that they could meet again but sad that the zikwa had ran away so soon. She watched him run off and disappear out of sight.
She sighed and finished moving the leaf before gathering her last item.

NO SUCCESS. To carry two giant broad leaves to Idle's place is not possible for Whispers. She's not that strong.
-----
Whispers thought about bringing down another leaf.. no matter how she imagined and played out the situation in her mind, carrying two of those with a dead bird on top will exhaust her. She shook her head and walked away. There ought to be something small she could pick up and bring back.

29. A four-leafed clover probably isn't any use to Never Idle, but hey, maybe finding it will bring you good luck!
Whispers moved onto a field of lush green plant life. She wasn't looking for one, but ended up finding a four-leafed clover. Rumours said it that those could bring luck. She smiled and did not pull it out of the soil. All she did was sniff it.
No point to pull it out and shorten its life span, she thought. The doe didn't want to watch it wilt in a day or two.

32. A long-dead Grandfather tree towers over this section of the swamp. In investigating the hollows of its enormous trunk, you find a patch of luminescent fungi. If you attempt to take it, it is too bitter to hold in your mouth, and causes a strange prickling pain where it touches you.
Apparently, luck was not on her side. Whispers was looking inside a hollow trunk and stumbled upon luminescent fungi.
With her tongue she wrapped it around one shroom and tried to pull it out of the bunch. It tasted funny and felt like tiny thorns were being jabbed at her tongue.
"Blergh, what is this?!" she screamed. She spat out saliva as she tried to stop her tongue from tingling. So much for having good luck... More like bad luck came her way.

7. A pile of iridescent beetleshells, collected by some bowerbird, glistens in the underbrush.
The doe crouched down and rested for a while. The odd taste still lingered in her mouth and she ate a few strands of grass to try and get rid of it.
Her eyes remained alert as they scanned the area and she saw a small pile of shiny shells hidden between fresh saplings and low growing vines.
Those were of no use to her and she looked some place else.

22. You thought you found the perfect branch--but it snaps cleanly in two when you try to move it. Argh!
Her eyes caught sight of a small thin branch just slightly covered by a worn down rock. She got up and walked over to it.
Carefully, she bit on one end of it but as she pulled, it snapped in two. The rock seemed to weigh heavier than it looks. "Drat. That was a perfect piece too," she mumbled to herself.
Finding the last piece of item seemed to take her longer and longer to obtain.
