There was time to fight and there was times to just take a step back and be normal for a while. Ladon was going with the latter option these days. When he considered how he stood in the Negaverse, he felt too overwhelmed and bitter, and was still struggling with how he was going to move on from the White Phoenix operation. Instead, he decided he’d just barely power up at all, and just take large zen breathes until he eventually worked things out. Distancing himself just felt like the only way to gain some strength back mentally to face what laid in front of him.

Ever since coming back to seeing Billy on the floor, it had dawned on him more and more that he had only taken from a man he was still to this very day baffled even had fallen for him. Regardless, he loved Billy, and he had been sure for a while that he would make that known to him in the most official sense. Without his mind occupied with the Negaverse (or more like he was trying to block it form his mind at every turn), he focused on the one thing that made his life happy. Billy.

For the past week, he simply went to work, cooked and cleaned, and sat on the couch with Billy talking and watching tv. While it in no way compared to how much Billy sacrificed and went through because of Ladon, it at least kept him from drinking in the bathroom again. Ladon just had to think of ways to make it up to him, but he just kept drawing a blank. He could get Billy art supplies, but that felt like such a small offering in the scope of everything else. He wanted to give him something bigger and far more personal, but everything just seemed stupid.

He had spent the last few days just thinking, pausing in the middle of work on at the bus stop, wondering what he could do for Billy, and each time he grew more and more frustrated. It wasn’t until yesterday that he started to worry. Maybe the reason he didn’t know what to do or get for Billy was because he didn’t know him well enough. Maybe he was just some huge jerk who was using him?

Standing in line at the grocery store after work, it was then that the answer to his worries came in the form of a magazine. A very special magazine that asked one simple question. “How well do you know your lover?”

Ladon entered their apartment, locked the many locks up the door, and set the keys in the basket on the counter. “I brought groceries. I though a light stirfry would be good today? Are you okay with that?” He asked, setting the bags down on the counter.

"Fine by me," Billy said from his spot on the couch, where he was curled up with a textbook.

Even though he wasn't in college at the moment, he wasn't going to let his knowledge get rusty. After all, he was eventually going to go back, and it would just be ten times harder if he didn't keep himself fresh on mathematics and science. Of course, he regularly parused the new psychology textbooks, seeing as his goal was to eventually become a psychiatrist.

Some might call it dull reading material, but he really didn't care what 'some' thought.

He found a stopping spot and placed his notes in the book to keep his place before setting the book down on the coffee table, and twisting around to look at Ladon. Billy was certainly happy that Ladon was taking a step back from the Negaverse. It was something he'd been wanting for a while. Billy had never had the devotion for it that Ladon had... Sure, Billy said that the senshi were scum undeserving of life, but then again he thought the same of anyone who wasn't himself or Ladon. He didn't hold anyone, regardless of faction, in very high regard. It was only too bad that dropping out of the war altogether wasn't really an option. Not when you could be summoned at any time. Honestly, the war was just a chore now.

"You want any help in the kitchen?"

With a bum arm, of course Ladon was going to need help in the kitchen. And even if Ladon said no, Billy was still going to help him. Asking was just a formality.

“Oh, not if you’re busy.” He said, but already saw that Billy had put his book down. He pretty much knew Billy was already coming over, and he went to empty one bad with his good arm as he did, setting the cold stuff on the counter closest to the fridge in order to not move too much to put them in. He couldn’t really carry much of anything, but had managed with the bag he had.

“I’ll start dinner here in a minute.” He told him, though not admitting that he was starting early only because he knew it would take him a moment to cut some of the vegetables. He pulled out a head of broccoli out from one bag, and some carrots from another. He pretended to ignore the magazine as if it was nothing, and put away a carton of milk in the fridge, juggling it with his hand and nudging the door open with his backside before turning it and putting the milk away. Having a cast was really a nuisance but at least he could still move his fingers a bit. It just itched a lot at night.

“So, studying hard? Want me to quiz you on anything?” He asked, willing to help. Sometimes, if Billy asked, he’d sit and open the book and pick out a bold word to ask him what it was. Usually he didn’t know what it meant, and sometimes he even mispronounced the word, but he liked trying to help Billy. He still wanted to ask when Billy was going to be ready to enroll back in school, but he didn’t want to push it.

"pff, I'm never too busy for you," Billy said as he sauntered over and gave Ladon a quick kiss to the temple before helping to put away groceries.

"Yeah, well, it's moistly review - can;t be getting rusty. Aaaand I don't think there' much 'random quizzing' with trig, but I'll be seeing triangles in my sleep."

Some sort of lewd comment would have followed, but Billy held back. As much as he loved to make Ladon blush, he knew his dirty sense of humor could get tiresome. Even if all he could think of to say on the subject of math was some sort of innuendo.

As he unpacked groceries he plopped the magazine on the counter, barely paying it any mind.

He smiled at the kiss, leaning into it before he put away all the cold items that didn't involve dinner. Then he brought out a bowl and set to work cleaning vegetables and then heating up the skillet. His eyes continued to glance at the magazine on the counter, and he guessed it probably wasn't a surprise to Billy that he got one. Not that he often got magazines.

When everything was thrown in and covered, Ladon cleaned off the counter and then sat down by one of the stools, opening the magazine with one hand and looking through it, pretending he bought it for the articles and not the quiz inside.

"Some girls at work asked about you when you came and picked me up yesterday. They want to know if you are free sometime." He said, glancing up with a smile.

Billy sat down and propped his chin on his hand, "Well, sucks to be them, 'cause I am neither interested in anyone else, nor bi," He then got a devious look on his face, "Maybe next time I pick you up we should give 'em a show. Might get the point across." Point being, that neither he, nor Ladon, were available in any capacity.

Billy was....extremely prone to jealousy, and found the best way of ridding any would-be competition to be very public displays of affection. Usually with intimidating eye contact with the unwanted interloper. It usually got the point across. Possessive? Oh yes, Billy was. Billy could only imagine how a jealous Ladon would act, but Billy was usually quick to set things straight.

He hunched a bit, glancing from his page over to Billy. "Um...I think they would then ask me a lot of personal questions after. About you. And me. They talk a lot about sex with each other in the office when our boss isn't around." Things he would feel that people shouldn't just casually share, but they went into some details and well - let's just say he learned a few things in the process.

"I also don't want you to be their entertainment. They should go somewhere else for that." He said, grumbling more to himself before he finally turned to the page with the quiz.

Now how to be casual about this? He had run over a few scenarios through his head to make it sound as if he just so happened to see this and it would be funny to try it out. Ha-ha. Good for a few laughs.

He really wanted a perfect score.

"Oh..."He said, trying not to glance over at Billy. "I thought these things were more jokes. I didn't even know they put these things in magazines." He placed his bait, hoping to turn the conversation in his favor.

"A magazine's soul purpose is to make you feel bad about yourself - imperfect - so that you'll buy whatever they're trying to sell you. I wouldn't take anything in that seriously."

Billy then got up and placed one arm on the back of the chair, the other propped on the table as he leaned behind Ladon, and nuzzled Ladon's neck and asked;

"So what you looking at? A recipie?"

After he asked, the turned his attention to the magazine.

...Oh dear lord. Yes, he'd stand by his previous statement. As well as add a flat, "You know those things are made for insecure women, right?"

"Yeah, well, I know that. I just thought - ya know. Now that I think about it. Might be good for a laugh? It's pretty silly, ya know?" He didn't want to admit to Billy that he might have been a bit insecure, and instead was playing if off as something fun to do.

"Something to do before dinner is ready and give you a break from your textbook." He decided that if he didn't strike now, Billy might shoot his idea down quickly.

"Here. Let's just...try a question." Just one little question.

"Number One. Does your partner have any siblings. How many and what are their names?"

He paused and looked up. "You're an only child, right? So I guess 0." Okay, that wasn't a hard question. One point for him then. Then again, did Billy remember his sibling?

Billy chuckled and moved back to his seat.

"You have a sister. Name hasn't really come up to my knowledge."

Thank whatever powers that be that Billy was an only child. For many, MANY reasons. But Billy had, literally, burned that bridge. He hoped Ladon could at least maintain a good relationship to his. It sucked to be alone, to not have anyone on your side. Billy had spent most his life with no one caring what happened to him - not after his grandmother died. He had Ladon now, though. Still, it didn't erase the empty childhood.

Family...Billy had gotten a letter from...family. He still wasn't sure what to make of it.

I swear I tagged this. I must have closed without pushing submit.

"Her name is Emily. She's...pretty close to me. I mean, we don't get to see each other much anymore once my parents split, but we still talk a lot on the phone when we can. We sorta came to agreement to watch over each of our parents when we split families. She watches my dad and I watch over my mom." He guessed he hadn't talked much about his own family when he thought about it.

He fingered the corner of the page as he thought about it and decided to continue.

"Number Two. What is your partner's nationality? Where do they come from?"

He read, and then looked over to Billy. "You grew up here, right? So ....here?" Right?

PostPosted: Mon May 05, 2014 9:56 pm

Billy made a mental note of the name, and nodded, "When we have our new home you should invite her over, have some small family get-to-gether." There was some part of Billy that wished his family could have been more...well, like a family. But seeing as he never, and could never, have that, he hoped that Ladon could.

Billy shrugged, "Yeah, pretty much. On my father's side of the family there was some pretty strong Romani, er uh, gypsy culture, but it had gotten pretty watered down. When I was living with my grandmother it was pretty much just used as a marketing gimmick. Sure, there were some traditions and beliefs that held, but I was too young to retain much of it.: Billy pretty much assumed Ladon was pretty firmly from here. Not that he saw that it mattered much. He'd love Ladon regardless.

"Oh. I didn't know that. Maybe you can hexes some people I don't like for me sometime." He said with a smile and then frowned. "Uh, sorry if that sounded - I'm sorry. That was insulting." He didn't know how strongly Billy held to his gypsy background even if it was watered down through the generations.

"My family grew up around here. My family is a bit scattered about. My dad and sister live farther off. My mom mentioned that we have like, very distant past relatives ages ago in the hills of Europe. I think Germany? I don't remember. I think that's about it. I'm not very cultured." He admitted.

He looked at a rather bland question on the quiz next and decided - well, why did he have to stick to these questions?

His heart thumped in his chest as he attempted to lie about the next question. "Does you partner want kids?" It was something he wondered if Billy was ever upset over. They were both guys and that meant they would never have kids. It also meant that if they did get one, through adoption probably, their other lives would interfere with that a lot. He just...wondered if Billy ever wondered about it.

Billy shrugged. like he said, he was too young to retain much of the culture, and it really didn't matter much to him. It was all far from who he was now.

And then at the next question, Billy made a bit of a face.

"That gets a flat 'no'ooooo. I don't have the patience, nor the humility to deal with the little shits." Humility because kids could be downright embarrassing with their sociopathic lack of a sensitivity brain to mouth filter. And lack of patience because...well, that was probably obvious.

"Plus, with the way society is now a days, it's kinda cruel to bring a kid in to this world. And that's without the war factor."

Maybe Billy had been reading too many negative news articles, nut really? He'd never liked kids, even when he was a kid.

"Besides, I think it's way better to be an uncle. It's all the fun without the real responsibility."

He smiled, using the magazine over his mouth to laugh before lowering it. "Yeah. I'd much rather make good food than baby food, and we don't get enough sleep sometimes without a kid." Not to mention the unspoken implications of raising a kid who might be parent-less at a moment's notice. IT wasn't good to raise a kid and have to lie to it every day of it's life about why Daddy left the house so late and came back so early, or explaining why one of them was covered in blood and couldn't go to the hospital. It would really mess with a small child's mind, and he didn't want ot inflect that on anyone.

Reaching out, he racked a hand through Billy's hair. "I like taking care of just you anyways." He teased, liking his big baby more.

He looked back at the quiz and looked down the list of questions. "Friends?" He said, glancing to Billy. He really didn't know if Billy actually considered anyone his friends, really.
