Count off in three… two… one…

And then Rensoua launched herself from Kyoth’s back and was - for a glorious few moments - free-falling, turning over before extending her arms into a dive. She hit the water with an almighty splash, coming up for air with a gasp a moment later, and a great deal of laughter.

Sure, the weyrlingmaster would probably have a fit if he saw them doing something like this (this being ‘hurling themselves from dragonback at great height into the lake’), but… well, sometimes it was just fun. She wasn't saying she wouldn't own up to it if they got caught, because it was kind of dumb, but... well, there you go.

Jasiline was not so graceful. As Sanuyeth circled the lake, keeping her flight steady and slow, Jasiline flung herself into the air, a flailing mass of limbs for a few seconds before she tucked herself into a tight ball and hit the surface hard. She came up sputtering with laughter and wincing at the same time. "Shells!"

Jasiline didn't bother with worries over the consequences of their actions. This was fun! They weren't hurting anyone after all, or shirking their duties (that she could remember at least!) Sanuyeth was actually enjoying herself too, making leisurely circles above the girls and enjoying the freedom of flying where and how she wanted rather than being bossed around by someone 'older' with 'more experience'.

Rensoua paddled backwards rapidly, breathless with laughter - and with hitting the water.

“You nearly hit me!” she managed to get out, before giving up to lie still on the surface for a moment, letting herself float while she regained her inner equilibrium. “Shaff, someday one of us is going to kill ourselves doing this”

There was a pause.

“…I bet I can do it from higher up"

"Well ya shoulda got out of the way then!" Jasiline shot back with a laugh, flinging a handful of water at her fellow weyrling. " I could think of worse ways to go." She grinned. Death? Not today. This was too much fun to spoil with talk of that.

She didn't just say that did she? Jasiline's grin took on a competitive edge. "Crackdust! Ain't no way." She called Rensoua out.

Then again, on second thought. "You're on!"

“Alright!”

Kyoth came in for a water landing a moment later, the clumsy young brown displacing a great deal of water - and sending a tidal wave over Rensoua and anyone else nearby, the teenager coming up a moment later spluttering.

“You forktail!” she cried out, drenched again. Kyoth just looked smug.
PostPosted: Sun May 04, 2014 2:57 pm

Jasiline barely managed to inhale before the large wave of water washed over her head. She coughed and gasped once her head broke the surface but swam for some distance from the brown dragon. She treaded water till the green slid into view... honestly not that much better than Kyoth had done, just a great deal smaller.

Jasiline managed to drag herself up Sanuyeth's hind quarters and onto her back, holding on precariously to the slippery wet hide.

Sanuyeth snipped. Could she get out of the water? Of course she could... could she fly out? Sanuyeth erred on the side of dignity and wam towards the shore, waiting only long enough for her legs to touch bottom before launching with a splash of wings on water to get airborne. Jasiline gripped the sides of Sanuyeth's neck tightly with her thighs, her body tucked between neck ridges and holding onto the dragon for dear life. There was a purpose to riding straps after all... but leather would have been ruined by water.

Once she was sure they were in the air, Jasiline searched for Rensoua and Kyoth. Had they beat them or did the brown's headstart secure his 'victory' into the air?

Kyoth was not magnificent.

Nope.

In fact, his take off resembled that of various water-dwelling wherries, with a great splashing of water and wings as he propelled himself across the water’s surface, frantically flapping before achieving lift-off just before he hit the end of the lake. Rensoua was just about clinging on and cackling madly, her eyes shut tight.

His large wings did have a purpose - and he did get airborne a little faster then a more narrow-winged dragon, though his ability to manouver in tight spaces (or really, at all) was compromised, and he needed a big slow arc to get around again.

Jasiline busted out laughing as she caught sight of the brown, taking to the air at about the same time as they had despite their different methods. Now Sanuyeth was not a narrow graceful green, but she managed to fake it pretty well as she twisted in the air and slid past Kyoth, climbing higher into the air than their previous jumps. Jasiline called for her to level off. The weyrling's heart raced in her chest as she glanced down. Would this be high enough or would Rensoua push them higher? It was terrifying but she wasn't about to back down without winning.

Sanuyeth snorted again. It's not like they weren't better by fault. Some dimglows just needed to test their mettle against the best. If Kyoth wanted to go higher, well, they'd go higher!

Rensoua coaxed, but Kyoth was having none of it, hovering only fifty feet from the surface of the water with great pumps of his wings.

(Kyoth pointed out that even twenty feet was enough for her to break a bone if she screwed this up. Fifty feet was spine-shattering. This was going to end badly)

With a whoop and a wave to Jasiline, she flung herself from her dragon’s back in a straight pencil into the water. This was living - and why would anyone want to live a life that wasn’t full of danger and adrenaline?

Berath's voice would hit them all like a thunderclap, the warmth that usually suffused her tones replaced with steel and the feeling of a protective shield coming across fierce and warlike.

right now! Rensoua, if you dare jump off him you-!> She was already gone. down!>

The huge scarred green plunged off the watch heights and down past the young dragons, down, down, trying to catch up to Rensoua before she struck the lake....

Inside the infirmary, inside a certain office, something shattered on the ground and an extremely rude word was said. A moment later the door banged open and Bereck swept down the corridor like an oncoming storm, flanked by two hissing firelizards.

Oh shaff they were high up. Jasiline's heart raced in her chest with excitement and a touch of fear. She couldn't hear Kyoth's arguments against their stunts and Sanuyeth had no such qualms. Only the drive to not be shown up by someone else concerned the pair as they watched Rensoua prepare for her jump.

Suddenly Sanuyeth's whole body spasmed as Berath's voice struck her. Jasiline gripped the slick hide in shock, her inner 'ears' ringing with the force of the angry green's demands. The badger green snarled, eyes red and orange. Who was this dragon to think she could boss HER! Toast burst into the air around their heads, hissing and spitting in all directions at the unknown threat he perceived from his bonded. His panic and anger, combined with Sanuyeth's near overwhelmed the young rider and Jasiline had to close her eyes and shut them out just to focus on holding on.

Sanuyeth bent her wings and began a slow spiral down not because of some hopped up dragon's command, but because her rider's confusion concerned her enough to seek safety for them both. Still, low growls followed her all the way and her claws tore up big clods of dirt when she finally touched ground. Both dragon and rider watched the older green dive after their friend. Did she really think she was going to catch up and snatch Rensoua right out of the air? Jasiline bit her lip against a grin.

Rensoua hit the water with barely a ripple, the perfect pencil jump completed as she went in feet first - she wasn’t stupid enough to try doing acrobatics midair, though there had been the briefest of moments when the thunderclap that was Berath had nearly made her wobble.

It was a long moment before she surfaced again with a gasp and a grin… and cheekily, a wave at Berath, having seen a flash from Kyoth of exactly what was happening.

Kyoth commented, though it was less sarcastic then it might have been - considering that he, basically, agreed with Berath. The bulky young brown began a slow spiral down towards the ground, his big wings making it easier then a precipitous descent - the first thing he’d learned was how easy it was to strain them if he pushed it too hard on a drop.

Once Berath started moving it was very hard for her to stop, and it was very much too late by the time she realised she wouldn't catch Rensoua. Rather than trying to pull out of the dive therefore she fixed her gaze on a point half way up the Weyrbowl and vanished with a crack of inward rushing air. A moment later she reappeared, still plunging, but now with the time to curve her course gently and thus avoid tearing her wings off.

she growled as she swooped towards the ground, finally alighting with an earth-shaking thud that made her forefoot ache where it had been badly mauled by... well she didn't remember right now and it was not important! she demanded directly into the Weyrling's head, adding an ear-splitting bellow for emphasis as her eyes swirled dizzyingly between orange and yellow. She could have been killed, she could have been killed, and killed Kyoth with her, and that other pair could have died and- This was added sternly to Sanuteth. any idea how dangerous that was?>

Bereck didn't usually run; frankly he wasn't very good at it, it was more like a kind of limping lope. The fact that he suspected it looked ridiculous was a contributing factor to his unwillingness to do it, that and the fact that if he wasn't careful it would all end badly for him one way or another. Until a few moments ago however today had been a good day, so he was prepared to take the risk in order to arrive faster.

She was safe, he knew that much from Berath.

If anyone gave him funny looks as he crossed the dragonkin infirmary cavern they got a stern ignoring.

She was safe, and he was going to kill her.

Toast had been calmed just enough for Jasiline to clutch him to her lap. Not that it would stop the firelizard if he wanted to get away, but for now he was content to 'guard' his bonded from the safety of her own arms. Jasiline had to admit a surge of admiration for Rensoua's dive. That was beautiful and as the weyrling came up to the surface of the water, Jasiline couldn't resist pumping her fist in the air with a loud "Whoop!" of elation.

She could have done it too had Berath not interrupted them.

Speaking of the green though, Jasiline also felt a flash of envy as the green blinked between perfectly to avoid a collision. That was a skill she and Sanuyeth couldn't wait to be taught.

Sanuyeth bared her fangs one more time at Berath. She wasn't intimidated by her or about to be guilted by the puffed up wherry. Let the scared old dragon just try her! Sanuyeth didn't care what she thought of their actions. She knew what she was doing.

Jasiline scowled. She didn't like this dragon speaking to her like that. It was fine to have Sanuyeth and Toast taking up space in her head. It was Not. Fine. That Berath needed to butt in there as well. "I could think of half a dozen stupid things we could have been doing." She shot back, that grin from earlier returning unhindered. "This is pretty boring compared to some of them. It's not like we couldn't make that dive." Jasiline gestured with her free hand towards Rensoua who'd proven that first hand and obviously lived to tell about it. Her other stroked Toast's long neck, soothing the small bronze firelizard.

Rensoua was very tempted, at that moment, to duck back under the water and see if she could come up somewhere where Berath wasn’t. Maybe develop spontaneously the ability to between. It wasn’t like her own dragon was even defending her here.

Instead, she reluctantly began a slow crawl towards the shore, putting it off for as long as possible, because it had just occurred to the teenager that if Berath was mad… then Bereck might just be furious.

Jasiline’s whoop did help that, a little, though.

Kyoth announced generally, the blocky brown landing with a thump and beginning to wander off towards the weyrling barracks.
