Kavu was watching a small group of gazelle grazing nearby, making ready to attack. He had found a good spot, hidden from their view, and was sneaking himself ever closer to their herd, hoping to get a perfect position to chase one of the smaller creatures. Since he was alone, he didn't need to focus on the larger animals- they were fine to scatter and live another day.
He had found a good target, and was watching it keenly. None of the others registered in his mind anymore- all he could see was the one small gazelle on the edge of the group.
With a push, he launched himself forward, rushing to attack the small creature before it could even figure out what was happening. Of course, he had no idea that in doing so he was actually messing up someone else and their attempt to hunt from the group.

When the pale figure appeared out of no-where and stole her kill from her, startling the herd and sending them scattered, she could have sworn. In fact, she did swear; and loudly!
"Damn it!" She growled, raising herself from her position in the grass. "Why did you have to ruin it! Now I have to go and find another herd to feed the hungry mouths!" To be fair, it wasn't entirely her job to feed the pride members, but to be honest if she didn't, she doubted that many of the others would bother to try and feed them.
She didn't seem to care if she had startled the male's kill out from under him, or if it was making it difficult for him to kill the beast, she was grumpy and tired, and he was not helping! "Stupid rogues, thinking they own every herd they come across..." she muttered, huffing.

She stared at him, eyes narrowed and face set in a disapproving scowl as she tried to figure out whether he was playing her, or whether he was actually remorseful. He seemed remorseful, but then again, the world was full of brilliant liars.
"Next time, make sure you're not interrupting before you go barging in people's herds," she grumbled, but her ire had faded a little. He didn't seem to have intended to harm her hunt, but still...she had to find another herd now.
"Do you know of any other herds in the area? Perhaps bigger prey than gazelles?" She might as well make use of him while he was there. She didn't know much outside the pride, so if he knew were wildebeest or other big game was, she would surely use his brain for the while. She could feed an entire family with a wildebeest.

Oh good, he had said something helpful! That was just what he wanted to hear- it would have been very awkward if she hadn't been satisfied with his answers, as he really had nothing else to offer as an apology.
Luck was with him that day!
"Ah, this way, let me show you," he said, though he knew she would be able to find it on her own if she wanted to. He had a distinct feeling that he shouldn't be leaving her on her own with a herd of wildebeest. Maybe he could help her out or something, if she let him. Or maybe even if she didn't let him, depending on how things went.
"Come on! This way," he hummed, heading towards the group he had seen not that long ago. It wasn't much of a walk before they came into sight, probably only twenty minutes from where they had been before.

She was faintly surprised when he crouched next to her, fully expecting him to leave since he had held up his end of the bargain. Huh, maybe he wasn't some ruthless rogue, she mused to herself as she continued to creep into position. Oh this was gonna be fun! She was used to taking down small beasts, the chance to prove her hunting prowess was...well, it was damn tempting. Her ego was blooming as she picked out her choice of beasts.
Reasonably close, and just far enough from the rest that hopefully she wouldn't get herself trampled, she tensed her muscles before leaping forward.
The herd scattered in panic, but her gaze was locked on her prey beast, which was attempting also to flee.
Too late! She had latched into its back, trying to tip it, but she was not a big lioness, and was really only getting dragged by the beast. Trying to kick at it's legs, she ran the real risk of getting trampled.
What she really needed was extra weight to help her tip the beast, and then it would be over quickly.

Kavu chased after her when she moved forward, easily seeing which of the animals she intended to keep track of. She was pretty good at picking her targets- it was the same animal he had picked in his mind, too. The one that had seemed the most ideal, in weight, and position.
When she sprang at it, landing on its back, Kavu sped up. since the beast had been considerably slowed, he had been able jump onto it as well, slamming his body into the creature's side as he sank his fangs into its shoulders.
Their combined weight was more than enough to knock the large animal to the ground, though it continued to kick and protest. While Kavu was close to the neck, he didn't go for the kill, trying his best to keep it pinned so she could reposition and finish things off.

Once Kavu had hit the beast as well, dragging it to the ground, she wasted no time in moving into position. She trusted - weird, trust - that he would keep it pinned well enough to not let her get killed by its' flailing legs or heaven forbid its much thicker skull.
The death was quick, and soon it had stopped moving all together. She panted, exhausted by the hunt but thrilled. She touched her paw to the beasts head. "Thank you," she whispered, her own prayer for the beast who had - admittedly unwillingly - given it's life to keep her pride alive.
She glanced up at the male who had assisted and eyed him. "You're not quite as useless as I originally thought," she remarked, before offering him the first smile of their encounter. "Thank you."

Her eyes darkened at the idea of him following her home. It would be nice for another strong male to be in the pride, but she wouldn't subject him to that. "No," she said firmly, "I would not subject anyone to my pride." She hesitated, staring at him and almost reluctant to leave.
He was nice, he was helpful, and he wasn't trying to oppress anyone. It was...well, it was a nice change all considering.
"But perhaps you could escort me part way home?" She offered, slightly nervously. She could drag the beast home alone, but it would take a while, and she was still curious of the male. It had been a long time since she had been curious of a male.
