Meteor showers were not particularly special to Mimsy, considering their frequency (and the fact that she had seem so many by now). They were brilliant displays of space trash, and they were nice to look at, but it was not especially incredible.

Her time on Deus Ex changed that. Each time she looked up at the stars, even in the absence of shooting stars, she felt like a child again. When the absence of the fog returned the stars to her, it was like she was seeing all of this for the first time again.

As much as she considered this hers, for reasons that were illogical in any world but her own, this was one 'possession' that she didn't mind sharing.

She tried to as much as possible, and the excitement never waned, so she saw no use in changing anything. So, as always, she informed the rest of Deus via Twitter, then settled against Robert, eyes turned skyward.

Quote:
tl;dr:
-Lyrid meteor shower is peaking tonight (21st-22nd)
-watching on the training fields
-all are welcome
-Mimsy tweeted this, but anyone can just wander up too!

At night, Melvin was at the labs. He had the late shift for his lab time, and usually worked well into the am and would then trudge his way through the haze to his dorm and fall asleep after a brief shower. At night, he usually couldn’t see the stars and he usually didn’t have to go out. Since he didn’t smoke, he didn’t take breaks aside from going to the coffee machine to refill, and his lab had no windows. Thinking about it, he guessed it would be rather depressing if it wasn’t for the fact that Deus weather never seemed to really change much. That and it kept the labs cool and less of a treat for minipets getting in or out. Then, when he was up very late, seeing the sun come up tended to be more depressing than uplifting.

Checking Twitter, he hadn’t even known there was going to be anything in the way of a meteor shower. It sounded nice, and he didn’t think he was really interested in those things since he was a kid. It seemed like a nice way to get a break from reading lines of thin text on tissue-paper thin pages all night. Rising up from his seat and grabbing his jacket, he went to refill his thermos, and then headed out to the training fields.

What he saw felt more like hew as being the third wheel than an invited guest. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.” He said to the couple, and then wondered if he should be texting Rin. Would she be awake still?

The sound of a voice caught Mimsy's attention. As difficult as it was for her to will herself to do so, she turned her full attention towards the man who joined them. It didn't surprise her to see Melvin, after their brief conversation on Twitter - she was glad that he decided to catch a glimpse of the meteor shower after all. This was not the best, per se, but it was still worth watching.

"Of course not!" She turned away from the stars to smile at Melvin, and lifted her hand for a short little wave. "This is for everyone, just as the cosmos are."

They weren't really for everyone, in her opinion, but that was not a very good way to keep up appearances.

"You are welcome to sit with us, if you would like to," she offered, gesturing vaguely to the field nearby. "Or you may lie down, if you prefer that, but I am afraid I cannot invite you to lie with us."

A giggle emerged from her smile. She was always going to laugh at her own awful jokes, clearly.

She giggled in a way he expected a young lady to giggle at her own cute jokes - cute as in what they saw as cute. The sort of thing you expected a highschool girl to giggle about around her boyfriend. Lookking at the pair, he felt it suited her. While he didn't know Mimsy much, he didn't take her for the giggling sort, but it was sweet in it's own way. Better than seeing girls with knives or talking to themselves.

"I think I'm good with not lying with you. I've got my own company for that if need be." If she was up.

He glanced at a spot nearby enough to talk if they felt like it, but not close enough that he would be too close to the intimate sphere of space the couple were sharing.

Taking off his jacket, he set it down as a makeshift blanket and sat down, uncapping his thermos lid and taking a sip of coffee before looking up. "Not having the fog around is much nicer." Away from the glow of the facility buildings, it was actually startling to see so many stars in such crisp detail.

"At least the island doesn't have street lamps and traffic lights to make this harder to see." Though he did miss the sounds of civilization.

Just to be sure, he texted Rin to see if she was up and so she couldn't' get angry at him for going without her.

Peyton had her phone out as she walked, a blanket tucked under one arm, and was in the process of typing out a message or two.

prolixity
Text to Noah:
The sky is falling, it's gunna be beautiful. I'll be out on the training field if you want to come watch with me. <3

lizbot
Text to America:
The sky is awake, and you should be too! Meteor shower going on, we're watching from the training field.

She sent send, waited to make sure the messages went through, then tucked her phone into her pocket as she neared the small group.

everyone already here. <3
Heading to bed, but feel free to poke at her.

When he actually got the joke, Mimsy's expression turned to one of true delight. Because he'd been so kind to understand her comical comment, it was only polite to listen intently to everything that he had to say.

"Yes, I think so too. It was so very troublesome," she sighed, shaking her head. "I have been quite interested in the changes of the flora on the island in its absence - have you seen anything of note? I would be happy to share what information I do have."

A meteor streaked across the sky, as if to remind her.

"Briefly, I mean! I would not want to overshadow tonight's cosmic event."

There were few moments where she felt comfortable allowing someone (or something) else to take precedence over her, but this was so simple that it was hardly a choice. This was what she had chosen to dedicate her life to, and she would give it the attention that it deserved.

She caught sight of Peyton and waved her over with a smile that she hoped looked excited. She felt certain that this was what one was supposed to do in social circumstances.

"Yo. Changes in what now?"

Jack helped himself to a spot between Melvin and Peyton, his own thermos of coffee in hand as he set his own coat down and got comfortable; wouldn't do to get grass stains after all. Owain had insisted he take a breather from reading (and by insisted, he meant many annoying interruptions until it became impossible to do otherwise) to take advantage of the metereological event.

"I wasn't here when there actually was fog," Jack went on to say, his eyes pinned skyward. As he saw a streak flare, he lifted his thermos as if to toast it and took a gulp. "So call me a little out of the loop."

Robert had been an excellent wall to lean on.

The man was easy to miss, despite his size, because he'd remained still the entire time Mimsy rested on him. But Melvin had noticed him, and he'd offered a nod in greeting. Then he went back to resting on the palms of his hands, and being a supportive wall for Mimsy to lean on as she discussed with the fellow Lifer. He was deceptively quiet, for reasons that were only his own. His eyes remained on the stars, for every moment he sat there.

There was something fond and distant in his expression. He looked like the stars reminded him of something wonderful. It kept him still, quiet, and visibly happy.

"You should speak with Rin. She manages a greenhouse and studies flora on the island. She would be your best bet to ask about any changes. I only go there to help water the plants." His limitations meant he rarely wanted to actually touch dirt. He had helped her plant the specimens she kept and clean it up from the broken mess it was, but he didn't spend too much time here.

Looking over to the other man, he smiled. "I'd call you lucky. Imagine fog over everything day in and day out. It made the place feel hotter, and you never got to get a really good look of the sky. It made going off on leave startling to actually remember there was blue up above and things like clouds. At least without the fog, it makes this place seem just a small fraction more normal."

He glanced up for any signs of light streaks before glancing at Peyton and not saying a word to her. She seemed to want to keep to herself.

As for Robert, well, for once he wasn't saying a thing. It was odd to not see him so energetic. "You're quiet, Robert. Something taking your breath away?" He asked with a bemused smirk before taking another sip of hsi coffee. He had been reading twitter lately.

The wave from Mimsy was a little surprising, and the smaller huntress gave a curious glance to the Lifer before moving up to settle her blanket on the ground beside the happy couple. Peyton had only really interacted with Mimsy over twitter, and had limited memories of seeing her about the island. All that acquired experience, however limited, had not painted Mimsy to be the happy, smiling figure that sat beside her. It was a little disconcerting, but she couldn't help but return the smile.

She'd only looked up at the stars for a about a minute before Jack joined them, it occurred to the Sun that she hadn't actually seen him since New Years. Since the shared alternate reality that was New Years. Him, more than nearly anyone else, had played an interesting role for her in that vision...dream? Whatever it had been. Pey looked up at him, frowning thoughtfully at first, and then turned her attention back up to the stars.

Melvin answered the green haired hunter's question, but chimed in at the end. "The weather is a lot nicer, but the absence of fog means we're no longer protected by the shield that had surrounded the island. That's why the Insanity titans hit all at once." Her tone was soft, just filling in a gap of information, rather than lecturing or complaining.

She, personally, liked the sun.

He caught Peyton's look and raised his brows a little, expecting something to be said on her end.

"Hmm. So almost like city pollution." The fog was connected to Merlin and Excalibur's presence, then? Jack really did wish he had been able to get a better look at them before they had run off...The fact that things like titans could get in concerned him. Coupled with the manner of Shiloh's afterlife...It was interesting but disconcerting at the very least.

"Starting to remind me a little too much of Lost's island," he commented offhandedly, taking another sip. "Have we looked into alternatives for shielding?"

"Rin's the one who has the greenhouse? Um, sorry to interrupt," Noah said, and settled down beside Peyton, crosslegged. "I mean, I haven't met her or anything, but I meant to ask, like, I want to do some gardening, I've been looking at growing things, but I've been really busy with stuff, I'd just appreciate some advice ... " He was babbling. He shut up.

It was a simple task, getting Oliver to do things. Despite being half asleep in bed, he was the sort who would force himself up to make coffee merely because a certain text message told him coffee was required. He was just too eager to please, and his nervous nature made him that much more quick and efficient.

However, it took a special kind of someone to take advantage of that.

The kid arrived at the training field with sleepy eyes, tousled hair, and a travel mug of freshly brewed, hot coffee. And without a word, he spotted Jack and offered up the spoils of his efforts. Oliver yawned, but he didn't sit down. It looked like a more private gathering, and since he was completely unaware there was any Twitter network on the island at all... He had no knowledge to the contrary.

Her attention lingered on Jack a moment longer, but now was really not the time or place to bring up what might have been in another life. Specially not with her boyfriend's voice floating over the quiet lawn as he moved along the training field to join them. "A little like that, yes, though breathing in the island fog didn't have lasting respiratory problems. As for alternatives," she shrugged, lips twitched to one side. "I'm not sure. Your division would know better than mine, It can't hurt to ask around."

As Noah sat a hand moved to rest to rest on his knee, patting softly as her head turned to offer him a pleased smile. Happy to see him, always, and perhaps a little amused at the obvious excitement he showed at the mere mention of agriculture. He was passionate, it was an admirable trait. He also had a tendency to babble, and that was just cute. "She's on Twitter a lot, I'm sure you can catch her there and ask about her greenhouse."

Weight shifting, she hoisted herself up on a hand pressed into the blanket s she could give him a proper kiss in greeting.

As she sank back down, leaning into Noah's side, she looked up at Oliver as he moved quietly towards the group and up to Jack, offering up a cup of Coffee. She still didn't really know him, but she smiled up at him all the same. Poor guy seemed perpetually nervous. A frightening state for a hunter.

Somewhere at the back of the group Alistaire stood, hands tucked into his pockets, his gaze absently directed towards the sky.
