Butterflies saw no harm in assisting Never Idle. There was little for the doe to do right now, and she was in a helpful mood.

((Whoops! misrolled, what an embarrassing way to start off. OTL))

[You find an ideal log. Unfortunately, rolling it free of the bracken it's trapped in and getting it back to the construction site will require some assistance! Help required. Success!]

A sizable piece of wood, certainly, and just what Never Idle had asked for. Pale eyes had spotted it poking out of the bracken, though her pleasure was short-lived as she realized it was... rather large. Too large for a slender doe like herself to move without help, and she didn't want to bother Never Idle in his work... perhaps someone nearby could assist? An uncertain hoofstomp and a small snort escaped the dark blue doe, looking around for signs of any nearby kin that could help her with the task.

It seemed she was wanting to take a large piece of log out. Not thinking about it too much, Endless Maze stepped up blue eyes bright. "Let me help you with that."

Ears twitching at the sound of someone's approach, Butterflies perked up slightly to see a nice buck--definitely strong enough to help her with the conundrum. "Certainly! I was hoping someone would come by... Never Idle needs this for his little project." Well, not-so-little, really, but it didn't matter so much to her. Head fighting the bracken to make room for her helper, the doe began to shove at the log with her head to push it along out of the undergrowth, clearly appreciative of his help.

So that is what all the commotion in the swamp was about. "Ah, do you need to carry it all the way to him?" Stepping closer to inspect the area. The log was pretty well stuck for the cloudy looking doe. "I might be able to break the branch and get the log out for you..." Tapping on the branch with his his front hoof, it sounded like it was easy to break enough.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 21, 2014 9:29 pm

"As long as we leave the log intact, I believe that will satisfy his needs. As close as we can get it would be quite nice..." It was open permission for the buck to do so, and as soon as the branch was broken the log groaned and rolled free of its bed, bracken crunching and crackled underhoof as they began rolling it along. Hard work for a doe who was used to being much more gentle about things, and she'd worked herself into a good sweat by the time they finally reached the appropriate site for the log. "I greatly appreciate your help with this..."

She gave his cheek a friendly lick, and then it was off to find the next item on the list.

[A smooth, sunbleached lynx skull lies in a clearing.]

As she searched, the white of bleached bone caught Butterflies' eye. Oh dear... whatever had happened to the creature, it had been quite a while ago, the bugs and scavengers having long ago cleaned all the organic matter away. Pristine, but morbid--she gave it a sniff, then shook her head and moved on.

[You find the perfect branch! You get it to where it needs to go but unfortunately, moving it tuckers you out for the day. Try again tomorrow to find more things! Success!]

A lovely branch, absolutely perfect for what Never Idle needed--again, the doe found herself doing heavy work in order to move her prize along through the swamp, slender form straining and jerking along as she went. Perhaps she should've taken a quick dip in a pool to cool off after moving that log with whomever that buck had been--she could feel the sweat building on her hide like a froth, uncomfortably dirty for her. Finally though, the branch was where it needed to go, and the doe stood panting. Would finding other items be so difficult? Perhaps she ought to stop for the day...

Butterflies heaved a small sigh, leaving to clean herself off and to find a good place to tuck in for the night. Tomorrow she would finish off the items that he had asked for.

[You find a marvelously-intact shed snakeskin.]

Pretty--but not what she was looking for. The doe looked it over with faint admiration, then quickly continued with her searching.

[You hear Never Idle chiding you in a strangely metallic voice: "Work faster! Work faster!" But then you realize it's only a mocking-raven, who must have grown up near the stag's place of business.]

Where was his voice coming from? It was only after several glances around the area before she realized the source of the voice, and it drew a soft laugh. The silly bird had made her worry for a moment, but now she discarded that feeling and continued with her work.

[A pile of iridescent beetleshells, collected by some bowerbird, glistens in the underbrush.]

Ooo--a lovely gleaming, and for an instant her heart leapt at the thought of finding that beautiful butterfly she had dreamed of in her egg sac. But hope shivered away upon realizing the true nature of the iridescence. A shame... she shook her head and moved on.

[You hear the sound of wings startled up when you enter this clearing, but there is no bird to be seen--only a strange shift in the light, as though a thin cloud had passed over the sun although the sky is clear.]

She had thought there was a bird awaiting her careful approach to the clearing, only to find nothing but the sound of fluttering wings and an odd sensation that made her legs shift unconsciously, glancing about in confusion. Strange, that instant of momentary dimness, but then it was gone, and the doe could find no explanation. Hm... time to continue searching, she supposed.

[Long, winding ribbons of paper birch bark litter the ground, carefully peeled down by some unknown kin or animal. They weren't anything he asked for, but they sure are pretty...]

Lovely, lovely bark strips--but how had they gotten off their tree in such a pristine state? She sniffed at them wonderingly, a dreamy sigh sliding from her muzzle as she considered draping them about herself. Impractical, perhaps, but still... shaking herself out of a moment of reverie, Butterflies gave the bark one last longing glance, then moved on.

[You traipse through a patch of leaves you've never seen before, and within minutes you are itchy to the knees. The itching will persist for three days, but for now on the first day it's too intense to allow focus and you feel the need for an immediate plunge into cool water. Try again tomorrow.]

Perhaps she shouldn't have let her mind linger on that wonderful birch bark--a sensation of terrible itching had overtaken her legs, and she soon found herself up to her belly in cool, soothing water, head reaching down to pull mud off the bottom and onto her poor, tormented legs. Awful, just awful--she wouldn't be getting any more work done today, that was for sure.

[A Kin has died here, perhaps this past winter. Its carcass has long since decayed to merely bones, and on a tree above its resting place someone has scrawled the symbol for a name, and a shape like a ripple in a still pool. Strangely, they have accompanied the marker with the symbol for a safe place.]

Sad, coming across a dead kin, and Butterflies felt compelled to pause in silence, lowering her head to gently nose at the skull. There was nothing else to do beyond a moment of respect for one who was gone, and then slowly the doe moved away.
