It wasn’t just paranoia; if anything, the feeling had been so common that he’d grown to ignore it until the imminent misfortune takes its toll on him. He was seated on a stool at the Grill’s bar, a half empty glass in his right hand with his head resting on the wood. Damon was just resting his head for the time being, and he was a little fuzzy, but wasn’t drunk just yet. So far, he hadn’t received any calls from the usual group. In about five minutes, he intended to drive back to the Salvatore Boarding House to read a book in the library. It was just a pastime until the entire world’s crap kicked in. He’d just enjoy the peace while it lasted, no matter how brief.

Lauren pulled her Jeep up to the Grill, on a mission to get something to eat before she finds a place to crash. It was a long drive from Chicago to Southwest Virginia, nearly 16 hours if you were speeding. She was there for the same exact reason every hunter came to the little Podunk town, their notorious vampire residence. Not only that, but witches and werewolves are know to reside there as well. Really, the only reason she was there was because things were getting slow back home, which was unusual. Chicago was a famous supernatural hub. It was home to vampires, werewolves, Fae, and everything in between. Just because things were quiet in the Windy City, doesn't mean there isn't any supernatural beings there, that just means no one is causing any trouble. She's not one of those hunters who just goes and kills everything that isn't human. You have to give her a good reason for her to put you on her hit list. And most of the monsters and what-not that resided in Chicago were not evil at all. In fact, one of her best friends from high school is a shape-shifter.

As she walks into the grill, Lauren noticed that it was pretty much empty except for bartender, a waitress, and a guy who looks like he passed out on the bar. The huntress sighed and sat down at one of the booths and looked at a menu. As she searched for something that look appetizing, she couldn't help but let her eyes wander over to the man at the bar. She had to admit that he was pretty handsome, the leather jacket certainly helped with that.

After all, he wasn’t drunk; best he not look like it. When he turned his head, he couldn’t feel anything familiar about her. “Hmm, not to be rude or anything, but you’re not from around here, are you?” he immediately said, seeing as it was quite obvious. He hadn't seen her face around town, and he'd seen many. Depending on what possible secrets the girl was carrying, she may or may not have held a chance at actually surviving in their madhouse of a town. Unbeknownst to the blue-eyed immortal, she was a huntress. And to make it fair, she didn't know he was a vampire.

As Lauren looked up from her menu, she noticed that the man from the bar finally raised his head. "Annnddd he's alive." She smiled and took a sip of her water that the waitress set down for her. The huntress then looked over at the man again as he spoke to her. "Nope." She said frankly. "Just passing through. On my way to Charleston." The huntress lied but she has been lying long enough for her to become a pro at it. Plus it seemed reasonable, South Carolina was ways south from here.

Inside, he was a bit curious to how much time it took for someone like her to get involved with the chaos; seeing as she ended up meeting him out of all people in the Grill. “Charleston? It’s probably easier for a pass-along. Besides, this town’s full of surprises,” he said. Damon didn’t feel like digging too much from a stranger, so he didn’t bother asking why Charleston, even though it was a lie, anyways.

Lauren raised an eyebrow at the man at the bar, as he seemed to be hinting about something. She knew what resided in this town, and it looked like he did too. "What kind if surprises? She pushed, but she was probably going to get some sort of vague answer. But hey, you never know that he might spill if you don't ask. After a while, the waitress returned with her Club Sandwich.

xxJames ducked into the Mystic Grill, making his way to one of the tables. A waiter left a menu at his table as he passed, and he picked it up to decide on an order. Once he decided on something, he pulled out his phone and checked his messages. He had three new texts since he last checked his phone. He sighed to himself and started replying to them. He stopped long enough to answer the waiter when asked what he wanted, and once the waiter was gone, he was texting again. It didn't help that those he was texting answered him almost immediately. He was always ready for a call from the precinct. There was always a chance of some catastrophe happening at any moment. He had to be ready for such moments. Things seemed calm now, but in this city, it never took long for something to go wrong.xx

How cool was it for this fun little blonde to be out drinking? Lots. Sure she drank as a minor, but it's great to be able to walk into a bar and just drink. Her wedges clicked against the ground as she opened the door to the local bar. She left her pretty bright pink convertible at the hotel she was staying in. Knowing she was going to go get a drink, she didn't want to risk her baby. It was her sixteenth birthday present. She headed right for the bar and ordered herself a drink. She looked around the place, and there weren't many people there. It is rather early in the day. She noticed a man at the bar talking to a woman in a booth, but she didn't see his face from where she was. There was someone witting alone, so she walked to his table. Hanna is far from anti-social, and is not afraid to sit with a stranger. It's how she met most of her friends. "Hi." She smiled as she took a sip of her drink. "I'm Hanna. Hanna Marin."

While it’d be amusing to see her reaction to the whole truth; there were boundaries that not even Damon was too eager to deal with. “Well, it won’t be much of a surprise if I tell you, right? Besides, the surprises will find you themselves, so they say,” he replied. It was a vague answer, but true nonetheless. In her unmentioned line of work, she’d likely end up stumbling upon the “surprise” anyways. It would’ve made a very small difference whether or not she knew, because she’d find out if she hung around just long enough for the surprises to make way from their dues.

When two more entered, the first was clearly a stranger to him. However, the female who entered had something familiar about her. Damon didn’t stare, his eyes fixed on the stranger beside him, but he quietly tuned in. He briefly turned his head with narrowed eyes to her when Hannah mentioned her name, seeing as he knew her after all, to which his eyebrows rose. Damon looked back to the girl beside him. “What’s your name? I just might resist the urge to just call you Sandwiches.” He had a minor ordeal with nicknames.

Vague, why did she expect anything different? Maybe he was pro-vampire or whatever, protecting those supernatural beings that live there from wandering hunters as herself. But it wasn't the fact that vampires and werewolves and witches lived here, it was the weird deaths that seem to pop up here constantly is what drew her here. The local authorities keep saying that they were "animal attacks", but anyone with half a brain could tell that that was complete bull. Even the local cops seemed to hiding something. This case was going to be a little more difficult than Lauren thought. How was she going to get to these vamps when everyone seems to be rerouting her, but little did she know that she was actually talking to one right beside her.

The huntress' head turned around to see who else entered the grill, looking for any sort of threat. Old habit, but it keeps her alive. She saw a boy enter then not long after a girl, both seemed to be non-threatening but that could change on a dime in her line of work. Lauren sighed and took a bite of her sandwich. She couldn't help but giggle a little at the nickname the man beside her gave her. "Well, people usually call me Lauren, but what ever blows your hair back I guess." She smiled and took a sip of water. "How about you?"

xxIt took James a few seconds to realize the woman was standing at his table, and he lifted his gaze from the phone to look at her. "Hello Hanna. I'm James," he said. He set the phone aside and gestured at the seat across from him. "Would you like to sit?" he asked. He hadn't been counting on anyone joining him, because he hadn't been planning on staying for long. He only came to eat, then he'd be leaving again. He supposed it wouldn't be too bad if he stuck around and talked to someone a bit. And if someone really did need him, he had his phone. They could call him.xx

He returned her smile with a half-mouthed smirk. If there was a trademark for his expressions, they’d be unparalleled. “Damon Salvatore,” he replied, the pride in himself evident at how he spoke his own name. It would have significance sooner or later. “Nice to meet you, Sandwiches,” he said, offering his hand for a handshake. After all, he said might, but he’d likely done it simply because of the moment. He’d call her Lauren eventually, assuming the nickname didn’t sound too appealing whenever he felt like it, which clearly wasn’t at the moment.

Lauren laughed a little and then took Damon's hand and shook it. He was definitely charming, no doubt about that. Not knowing that he had over 100 years of practice. "So Damon, since you seem to be from around here, you wouldn't happen to know a decent place to crash would you?" She asked, remembering that it was probably getting late and she was running on 5 hours of sleep at most. Life on the road, ain't it swell?

It was a boarding house up until we made a comeback, so there are lodgings,” he replied. Seeing as he was no stranger to pick-ups, he’d explained the additional details involving that it was a boarding house. He didn’t think it’d hurt, seeing as Sandwiches wasn’t exactly sticking around, or at least that was what she said.
