It had been a log week. Peyton had hoped, given time, that the shock she'd experienced with Astrid would have faded. She still felt powerless, still walked around feeling vaguely lost. There were times, in the company of her friends or her boyfriend, where the numbness was gone, but left to her own devices it tended to creep back in at the edges. As a last ditch effort she had headed down to the training field in the hopes that physical endurance would help. Not a bad theory, really. Of course it had been an hour since she'd hit the training grounds, there were a number of destroyed training dummies laying around at her feet, and she couldn't say that she felt a whole hell of a lot better. With a frustrated growl she slammed her fist forward into the splintered remains of the dummy torso she was currently targeting. A loud crack followed the impact of spikes into wood, and a few more splinters rained down into the grass.

Melvin trained as many times as he could, on as much of a schedule as he could plan with random missions and assignments, let alone duties in the infirmary.
While training was a good way to hone your skills as a fighter, it wasn't unusual to see someone going to bit too hard on the dummies to let out some steam. Usually he just assumed they were sexually frustrated or that they were a Sun who was pent up for too long. While destroying a training dummy was at least a safe way to take out their anger, it was sometimes a bit distracting.
Walking, he noticed the woman was just punching the dummy at this point. "I think weapons work better." He pointed out, not knowing if she got some rush out of using her hands.
Taking a spot on a undamaged dummy, he took off his jacket to set it down neatly on a bench, and then too the red pen from behind his ear and let it transform into a gun. "Angry?" He asked, loud enough for her to hear.
He liked having company when training. It was nice.

The voice wasn't really familiar, but the words, the tone, had Peyton ripping spikes out of the dummy's torso so she could give an agitated, sarcastic wave in the general direction the comment had come from to show that she was indeed using a weapon, and was not merely beating her knuckles bloody. That would have been unwise, given her division, and especially her weapon. She might be occasionally reckless, but she was not careless. Sucking in a breath, the Sun let it out in a long sigh before turning to see just who had wandered up to join her. Melvin, well that was just dandy. His question earned him a scowl. It was clear she was agitated, he could see it, why ask pointless questions. "Oh no," she answered sarcastically, picking bits of wood off her shirt. "I'm just dandy." < I sympathize with your situation, Pet, but you are being rude.> Warrick's gentle chastising made her pause, features softening just a touch. "Sorry. Long week. Not you're fault."

He looked her over, and glanced at the jacket. Yup, Sun. Whoever was beating a dummy like that just screamed Sun to him. Her wave though made him step a bit closer to notice her brass knuckles, and he was glad about not being a close-range wielding. Usually Sun's seemed to have some range with a sword or ax, but knuckles were really close and personal.
He was lucky to have a gun.
You ARE lucky to have me.
At her apology, he glanced back to her. "You're right, it isn't." But now that she brought it up, he moved over towards her. "Bad mission?" He asked, then looked at er dummy and back to her. "Want to spar instead of tearing apart another dummy?"

Peyton preferred being up close in personal during combat. There was more of a risk, but she'd been fighting with her hands for years now. IT was what she was good at, driving a fist into someone's gut was satisfying. Delicate features had softened at the apology, but she couldn't say she was happy having company, and specifically not her current company. She didn't know Melvin, but a few exchanges on twitter had been enough for her to learn that he was opinionated and generally unpleasant. His question resulted in a moody huff. "No, not a bad mission." Not that her last one had been a walk in the park. It hadn't been anything really, it hadn't been real. "Nothing like finding out a week of your life was all n your head and not real." Pale eyes narrowed as she considered his offer. A general aversion to unknown company was a compelling thing at the moment, but a real opponent was not something she easily walked away from. "Sure."

He nodded and then went to get a nice distance between her to start the fight. "You're upset over that? I thought most people would just be used with the question if things were real or not. As for wasting time, we do a lot of that around here."
While not a full hunter, he at least felt he could start making opinions about Deus now that he had been here long enough. He had went through several missions and had been through a few fake realities. Overall, he felt he could give an opinion on the matters of Deus. Somewhere, he felt he had passed that line from rookie nobody to just educated, undervalued hunter.
"Are you just hating wasted time or did you sleep walk like some people in your underwear? I can't imagine Sun hunters have too much that is time sensitive to worry about that would be ruined in a week." Unlike lifers who had experiments that needed documented and recorded at certain times.

Narrowing one eye, he held up his pistol, looked down the sight, and fired at Peyton. "What was your name again? I'm Melvin Wood." He usually got to introductions later if at all. It was something he just tended to forget in the mist of more important questions.

Oh joy, guns. < You've won against ranged before, you can do it again.> A grimace flitted across delicate features as the shot struck her shield. "Peyton Creedy." She'd known Melvin's name, but apparently he hadn't known her's. "And I'm not upset about the mission, or the idea of living a week in a dream state." That hadn't been what bothered her, that hadn't been what had stung. But she didn't know Melvin, she didn't owe him an explination. He'd purposefully moved away to take full advantage of his weapon, to place her at a disadvantage, but she was fast. Digging her toes in she streaked forward, closing that distance easily. When she reached him she fiented to the side before pivoting to the side to take advantage of the arm that was raised, holding his weapon. She lashed out, driving her fist forward, upward, digging spikes into his ribs. First the left, then the right, two quick, powerful jabs. HP: 44 DMG: 10 CHG: 1/3 | 0/2

He swore when she raced at him and punched him twice in the side. Shields or not, you still felt it, and he stumbled back before aiming as best he could with such a limited range to fire at her. It wasn't a head shoot, but more of a grazed shoulder. It was hard to aim when you couldn't keep you arms straight out and had to pull them in just to point your weapon.
He started to walk backwards, trying to get enough distance to fire properly.
"Then why are you so pissed about it?" He continued, not just letting up. The only way to know something was to ask, and he abused that logic almost every day. "Was it something in the dream?"

His aim was compromised, but he still managed to get a shot in, grazing her shoulder, her shield. She hissed, jerking back and to the side. before pale eyes narrowed at the question. ******** was nosy. "The pod people, the ones that appeared to have woken up without weapons to bond with." Terse response, giving almost nothing away. She lunged, aiming the swipe of a blade at the hand that held the gun. Slicing across his knuckles. HP: 39 DMG: 3 CHG: 2/3 | 0/2

He nearly dropped Saliva in the attack to his hand, and her jumped back even more quickly than before, retreating for all the moves she was making to advance. While he tried to keep his eyes on her at all times, he had to glance to make sure he didn't walk into a training dummy or one of the benches, and nearly froze when she lunged at him again.
This time he fired, nearly yelping at how close she kept getting, and aimed for her chest.
"You don't like new recruits? Hate to break it to you, but that was us. More will come." He said, continuing to pinpoint exactly what was upsetting her so much. To him, the pod room was nice. It was quiet, and while some days he found the people locked inside depressing, their quiet slumber calmed him down. They didn't have to think about this world, and they were lost to those of dreams.
Saliva glowed with a full battery. Sweet Jack! It's been a while since I felt this. You seriously need to spar more.

The shot hit her square in the chest, pushing her back, and making her clutch at the point of impact with a low, grunt. She hated guns, specially guns that never ran out of ammo. It wasn't the weapon that mas gnawing at her nerves though, it was the endless stream of questions. What did he care why she was upset? It didn't involve him, didn't effect him. He was just being nosy. "I don't dislike the newbies," she snapped back at him, tone impatient, low and almost growling. Moving forward, and aimed for his hand again, spikes grazing his fingers where curled around the stock. HP: 31 DMG: 1 CHG: 2/3 | 02

Saliva glowed a neon green under the belly of her stock and he turned the barrel at himself. He knew that a healing charge was already cocked and ready, and was glad for a bit of a refreshing. Saliva was more than ready to release too, feeling full and eager.
But that was when Peyton attacked, and he jerked, sending the charge not at him, but flying past his shoulder where it flew away and landed farther off, impacting the ground. All the healing energy in the orb was wasted in a puff of plasma.
Shocked, he decided he might as well start getting some distance. He just used his first charge and he might not get a chance for a second. "You don't dislike new recruits buuttt.....you dont' like the pod people there? What's bad about them then?"

Warrick buzzed in her mind, eager and hopeful. So much Fear, energy, all of it ready to be thrust back into his hunter, to be channeled. "There's nothing wrong with them." She was getting frustrated, it was there in her voice, in the jerky way she moved. This wasn't any of his business, why did he have to be so nosy? Melvin tried to put a little space between them, and Peyton pursued, unwilling to relent, much like himself. Her weapon back all that condensed Fear, and the Sun felt it burn through her arms and legs, propelling her faster. She lashed out, but the spiked knuckles collided with the barrel of the Life's gun. "My sister is one of them!" It was too much, really. Everything that had been happening, all these questions, and now, the rush of Fear tipped her over that edge. She gave an inarticulate shriek, drew her arm back, and swung again, only to result in the same ineffectual scrape of metal against gun barrel. Wasted, all that Fear, all that potential. He knew a heavy hit was coming, and he really didn't want it to happen. Fear shield or not, you still FELT a punch, and she was wasting no time with getting as close and personal with her weapon with him as possible. He was hard to even get any range when she kept hitting over and over in quick succession.
Finally she blurted out something more specific, andthen started to beat Saliva - or it appeared that she was trying to.
OH JACK! She's trying to break me!
"HEY! Watch it!" He shouted at her, trying to keep Saliva from taking all of the damage, and worried about damage to his hands. They already stung from the vibrations of the punches and he jumped back and tried to get any distance he could get.
"So she's alive. Be happy for that! Are you just pissed she isn't awake yet?" He said yet only because it was never a sure fire thing. She could never wake. Some people died in those pods. Wasted potential. Those who signed up but never got to be used in battle. The screening processes was cruel. Being alive even crueler.
