Roll a Seven: Forest Field: Thick trees, some small while others greatly exceed double your own height, sprout at random places throughout the field. Giant roots provide easy excuses for pokemon to trip if they do not watch where they are going. Spacing between the trunks vary, making passage difficult for those on the ground and in the air. This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to BUG and GRASS type attacks.This field also reduces damage from FLYING type attacks by 25 HP.

Lyle trotted into the stadium, eager for a battle. It'd been a little while since he'd had a proper battle, and his pokemon could use the practice. Spinel reclined on Lyle's hat, just as eager to watch the match.

Lyle reached the trainer box and surveyed the stadium. Forest this time, that could potentially make seeing the opponent hard. Hopefully Hematite would be able to manage. "You're up, Hematite!" he called as he tossed a pokeball into the trees. It burst open to release his Haunter. She looked around the stadium while Spinel cheered encouragingly.

Valarie chased after Fois as he flew into the stadium. The girl was talking a mile a minute with her pokemon.

"Aren't you excited Fois? Our first real battle!" She asked. "Huh, aren't you Fois? Cause I sure am! Ha ha!"

The Hoothoot replied with an exasperated hoot.

"Oh look, we're here! Arceus, this place has a lot of trees-- Hey Fois watch out!"

Fois was blatantly ignoring Valarie at this point, since, he soon flew into a tree and slid to the bumpy flooring. How is he supposed to fight here?

Lyle saw his opponent run in and was about to greet them. Then saw the Hoothoot fly into a tree and winced. "Ouch, hope it's OK to battle." He hesitated a moment, wondering if he should let it get up, then decided to just get going. "Hematite, start with Sawgger," he instructed.

His Haunter floated through several trees to reach Fois, then cackled "Haw haw haw!" to get his attention. She started swaying back and forth, allowing her hands to bob around in the air as she grinned widely at the other pokemon.

Fois ignored the Haunter, thinking it was just Valerie acting strange. He lied there on the ground for quite a while, wanting to get up, but not wanting to fight in this place.

"C'mon Foissssss! Get up!" Valarie urged from where she stood, "I'll give you extra berries tonight if you do!"

That seemed to pulled Fois out of his thoughts. The Hoothoot rolled over and onto his stomach.

"Good job! Now use Psychic!"

Fois opted to use Extrasensory instead. He focused onto his opponents eyes with his own, which are glowing with a reddish-pink color.

Hematite kept up her attack, despite any reaction from her opponent, until Fois got up and attacked back. Then the Haunter reeled, briefly struck dizzy by the wave of psychic energy.

Well that hadn't worked. Time to take a different tactic. "Defend yourself with Ominous Wind," Lyle called.

Hematite's hands glowed black as she spun them around her. They left shadowy trails in their wake that wrapped around her in a miniature whirlwind.

Valarie sighed when Foiz refused to listen. "Okay, maybe... uh..." She tried to think of a command as she watched the Haunter.

Fois, being a bit impatient, used Psych Up. His eyes spun around a few times before his feathers puffed up.

Oh, Lyle knew that attack. He liked using it with Spinel. Any more stat effects would be pretty much useless, so he dediced to just go with a direct approach. "Thunderbolt!"

Hematite stick her hand in the air, then swiftly brought it down. At the same time she summoned a bolt of lightning to strike through the foliage at Fois.

The lightning struck Fois and it left him in a small daze. Behind him, Valarie snapped her fingers.

"Ah ha! This is a good time to use Hypnosis!"

Fois actually agreed with her on that. He straightened himself up and stared straight into the Haunter's eyes again. This time, his eyes glowed with a blue tint to them.

As soon as Hematite caught sight of the blue glow in Fois's eyes, she began to get drowsy. She quickly fell asleep, her eyes closing as she drifted slowly towards the ground.

That was no good. There had to be something he could do, right? Lyle wracked his brains and came up with something he'd been wanting to try anyway. "Sleep Talk!" he yelled, hoping it got through to her.

Apparently Hematite heard, because she twitched and muttered to herself.

Fois watched the Haunter's hands with a look of pure confusion on his face. He has never seen a Pokemon use Sleep Talk before. Though, he came to a conclusion that he does not like it. Nope. Not one bit.

"Hey! Snap out of it and use Dream Eater!" Valarie called out.

Dream Eater? ... Oh, I know that. It kind of goes like this, right?

Well, that went well. Lyle grinned and Spinel pumped a fist in the air when they saw that Hoothoot had been confused. "Sleep Talk again!" the boy called. Not that there was anything else is pokemon could do at the moment.

Hematite muttered to herself again.
