She was told that she would need to do some training, and so there she stood, on the edge of the training field, looking awkward and utterly lost, as she watched those who were already spread out, practicing with their weapons. Ohhhhhh Rorric, look at them all! I don't think I could ever be so confident.... < Nonsense Lydia! Nonsense! You are wonderful, I am sure! After all of the adventures you have been on! This is nothing, no no, you will be stupendous! > Still she doubted, and still she felt that unease in the pit of her belly grow, as she fiddled with the fabric of her plaid, button up shirt that just barely peeked out from the bottom of her sweater worn over top, with her sleevless jacket above that, loosely tied in place. Short torn off shorts and thigh high stockings combined with her muddy old hiking boots completed the look, and while it was horribly hot outside she knew she needed to keep herself covered, her scarf wrapped around her neck to keep it from being exposed, while tangled curls were tied up high, though fly-away pieces still fell in front of her face and around her shoulders. "Oh hey, hey you!" She suddenly called out, a hand raised in the direction of a man who happened to be walking along nearby. "Are you the type that might be interested in a whipping?" She called out, practically hollering her words so that anybody in the vicinity, and certainly all of those on the training field, could hear.

He did not enjoy sparring, nor did he enjoy anything that would involve getting dirty; but as he was walking along beside the training field and heard someone calling to him, Alistaire couldn't help but turn to look, his gaze falling on a vaguely familiar young woman.
"Ah," he said. "You're new."
It wasn't really a question. Alistaire's eyes swept up and down her form with a scrutinizing expression, as though he was trying to determine who she was from just a glance.
"A whipping?" he asked, and it was practically a purr. "Do tell."

She gave him a wide smile as he approached, lifting up a hand to wiggle her fingers at him, bright blue, freshly painted fingernails shining in the sunlight. She completely ignored the way he looked her over, quote used to scrutinizing looks by now, though she did reach up to tuck a few strands of wayward hair behind one ear. "Yep! Fresh out of the oven-pod, all arisen and ready to be tasted! Er--tested! Taste-tested!" She giggled into her hand, snorting in a not at all delicate manner before straightening. "I'm Lydia~" She crossed her heels and attempted a curtsy, an action that's effect was completely lost by her large, clunky, dumpy looking boots and just the overall awkwardness with which she held herself. "And you arrrrreeee.....she squinted at him then, leaning forward slightly as she peered with hazel eyes, completely forgetting that she had but to pull the glasses down from on top of her head and place them on her nose to be able to see better. "Aaaaaaa very handsome man!" She finally proclaimed with yet another wild giggle, a hand slapping at her knee. "But yes! Whipping! You know like, wh-pish!" She made the generic whipping sound combined with the hand motion. "Only like....you know! With a...well...." She began to fiddle with the tasseled band around her wrist, pushing up her sleeve to slide it off over her hand, holding it up so that in a fiery glow, the totem form of her weapon suddenly changed to that of cat o' nine tails in her grip, glowing red runes burning bright along it's handle. "So. Do you waaaannna?" She asked, in what she hopes was her sweetest and most enticing tone. She really, reeeaaaalllly needed somebody to let her whip them.

He half recognized her, but considering all of the chaos and the confusion of the last several days, he had little to no idea of her actual name, or whether or not she was a threat to be considered. Still, he watched her carefully, eyes slightly narrowed, and took in the clumsy curtsy, the silly giggles, the very unprofessional way in which she carried herself.
Ah, Alistaire thought, One of them.
He didn't bother to offer her his hand in greeting, but instead merely adopted a curious and vague expression, his gaze moving towards the weapon in her hand, its glowing orange tails swaying slightly in the light breeze.
/ A WHIP / Grimshaw cackled, clearly pleased. / Go for it, screechling, go for it. /
Alistaire's lips quirked upwards in a very small smirk. He held out his own hands, palms upwards, and the twin chain-link bracelets on each wrist glowed a faint green before dissipating in a burst of white light, reappearing seconds later as a pair of twin black knives with draping, clinking chains holding them together.
He smiled.
"After you, darling."

Well, he didn't exactly seem overly friendly, but that was okay! Lydia was completely undeterred, and only grinned happily in response to his smirk, while gripping her weapon tightly in two hands. When he made a movement with his hands, her gaze dropped, eyes blinking when the bracelets on his wrists began to glow, and when, after a flash of light, revealed instead two dark knives and...a chain...
Woooowwwww.....Those look....sharp.
She might have stared a little bit longer then necessary, when Rorric's shrill voice cut through her thoughts.
< Don't worry Lydia! I will keep you safe, yes! There might be some pain but you will not come to serious harm~ >
Right. She knew that. She did. She had read the information, had listened attentively when being told why she was here, what their purpose was. She had understood the instruction but...but hearing about it and actually doing it and believing that it would work the way they had told her it would were two completely different things!
It was his voice that broke her out of her thoughts, and her smile automatically returned, bright and chipper. No hint of any worries here!
"Oh okay, thank you...sir!" She had no idea what to call him, and the 'darling' tacked on to the end of the sentence had thrown her off a little.
"Let me just uh...get ready here.." She began shifting on her feet, bending her knees, straightening, looking around at the others on the field and how they were positioned, and then shifting her stance again.

"Okay, I think I'm ready!" She exclaimed excitedly, while holding her whip out in front of her with one hand, the other held awkwardly out to one side like she didn't know what to do with it just yet. "I've never actually used one of these things before!" She giggled, waving the whip around a little in front of herself. "So just, you know, bare with me while I get the hang of things." No bothering to ask him to take it easy on her, just a small plea for a little bit of patience. "OKAY AND GO!" She probably didn't need to announce that she was about to strike, but her excitement had, in this point in time at least, gotten the better of her. Soon she was doing the same whipping motion that she had done earlier, only this time with an actual whip in hand, not really expecting there to be very favorable results but.... ....Low and behold, it actually worked! The tails lashed out, and the runes along it's handle seemed to glow brighter as they connected, while Rorric chirped in her head. < Excellent, Lydia! Most excellent, yes! See, you are a natural! > His encouragement brought a faint flush to her cheeks as her smile broadened. "So, you have a name, or do I get to make something up for you, sir?" She asked, tittering away when she probably should have been paying attention to those deadly looking knives he was wielding. HP: 40 Damage: 5 Charge: 1/3

He didn't understand this girl.
For that matter, he didn't really understand anything about this girl, from the flippant and ridiculous manner in which she carried herself, or the bouncing, outlandish way in which she spoke - to the strangely added on "sir" that she called him, to the tumbling curls on her head that made her seem like she was a teenager trying to act older than she was.
Alistaire gave a soft snort and a shake of his head.
"My name is Alistaire," he said. "Don't call me sir, it sounds odd."
Her whip cracked through the air, whistling at his side, and Alistaire felt the sting of it against his torso. He moved sideways, the chains of the knives clinking, and whipped them around, trying to aim for the girl's midsection and catch her off guard.

"Alistaire." She repeated the name, letting it roll off of her tongue slowly, as though testing it out, looking almost thoughtful, and most definitely not paying as much attention to their little spar as she should have been. "I like it~ Very fancy and formal, anyways. Do you go by any nicknames? OH! How about Ally?" She grinned, but at that moment, knives were sent zipping through the air towards her, and she let out a startled yelp as she very awkwardly attempted to jump back and out of their range, only to have them strike her anyways. It was strange. So strange. Her eyes had closed tight, she had winced, bracing herself for the sting of pain that would come hot on the heels of a slice from a knife. But it was...different. She had definitely felt something but it was like it was somehow deflected, not really painful so much as startling, though she still expected there to be...more. Certainly there should have been blood? It just didn't make sense. Her eyes had flown wide open in bewilderment as she used her free hand to inspect the area that had been struck, while still using her other hand to hold her whip at the ready. "Most amazing.." She breathed, blinking as she looked back towards him, before grinning. "Again! Hit me again!" She was practically bouncing on her toes with excitement, using that opportunity to give another practice lash with her weapon, aiming it glance off of the top of his leg, as though that would be incentive for him to strike back. There was only one answer to Lydia's question about nicknames.
"No."
A little shudder of disgust accompanied this flat response, Alistaire's expression entirely unamused. He had never been particularly fond of anything that shortened his name to anything less than what it was. Nicknames were lighthearted, silly things; he didn't like being reduced to such a thing.
She confused him. He didn't understand the flighty response to his attack, nor the breathless way in which she seemed to be in awe of the hunter weapons. Alistaire's expression grew less pleased and slightly more irritated.
"You're certainly a masochist," he said flatly. "I don't think it would be a good idea to ask people to attack you repeatedly on a place like Deus."

Lydia only giggled more at his quick retort to her nickname suggestion. "Okay, no then~" She wasn't going to argue with him, or tease him more on what was obviously a bit of a sore spot that she knew better then to poke. Well, for now, at least, because right now she was making friends and having fun learning about how to use her weapon at the same time! Productivity at it's finest! What he had to say next was slightly startling, however. "Oh. Oh no no no! I'm not like...that I just....You know! This whole shield thing is so amazing! Not at all what I had been expecting to experience so, ya! A little pain can't hurt, can it?" She was feeling a little flustered now, and reached up to swipe away the curls that were falling over her eyes. "Well okay, I will keep that in mind but, I can still ask you to hit me, right?" She asked, giving him another big smile before sending another practice lash his way, once again aiming for one of his legs. HP: 37 Damage: 8 Charge: 3/3

He found, strangely enough, that he agreed with her on that aspect.
"A little pain is good for the heart," said Alistaire, dragging the chains along the ground in an effort to wind them back around his gloves. They would smell of dirt and grass if he wasn't careful enough, and he tried not to think about how filthy the area beneath their feet was. "It keeps you alert and moving, pain. It reminds you that you are, in fact, alive and that you exist, if nothing else."
Her whip cracked through the air again, snapping against his thigh, and Alistaire jerked sideways, a hiss of pain escaping through clenched teeth. For a trainee newly out of the pod, as well as a seemingly air headed and ridiculous person, this girl was remarkably quick on the uptake on how to maneuver her weapon.
Interesting, Alistaire thought, very interesting.
He moved the knives carefully, his stance more defensive than offensive this time, trying to catch her off guard.
"You seem well versed in whipping."

Pain was good for the heart? She wasn't quite sure she agreed with that statement, and chewed on the inside of her lip as she mulled it over. "You mean like, heartache?" She frowned, her thoughts obviously a tad bit scattered as she completely lost his meaning. But just a split second later she was beaming at him again, as if not completely confused only moments before. "Well, to be honest, I don't quite remember...much, yet." She said, circling around him slightly. "I remember sort of, what I was, and how I got here but a lot of the inbetweenies are still all muddly-fuddly." She giggled, and snorted, and sent her whip lashing at him again. "But who knows! Maybe I was a part time dominatrix!" She totally looked the type. Totally. HP: 36 Damage: 6 Charge: 3/3

The girl was a piece of work, that was for certain. She acted foolish, but her attacks were brutal, the whip cracking through the air with a force stronger than he'd expected from someone so air-headed and bubbly, for lack of a better word.
He didn't like losing to a someone so childish.
Alistaire forced a smile.
"Somehow you don't seem the type to be very domineering," he said, twisting the chains around one hand and snapping them towards her in quick succession, one blade after the other, directed at her torso. The chains clinked and clunk as they spun through the air, Alistaire stepping closer.

She couldn't help but giggle at his comment, because how could she not? It was just so true. She barely looked like she was capable of walking and talking at the same time, and lets face it, most of the time that was true as well. She was clumsy, awkward, completely and utterly graceless. And yet here she was, wielding a whip as though she'd been born with it in her hand, as if it was not just a tool, a weapon, but an extension of her own body. It made her practically jitter with excitement, because to her it meant that this was right, it was where she belonged. She had finally found her place in the world, and she couldn't have been more ecstatic. The smile couldn't even be wiped off of her face when his daggers zinged through the air towards her, one after the other in rapid succession, in a move that was a blur-more so even to her limited eyes. "Oh wow, neat trick!" She gave him an enthusiastic thumbs up, still in absolute awe that the attack, which should have left her bleeding on the ground, instead gave her more of a sense that she had been struck, but lightly, her shield absorbing most of the pain. < Lydia! Lydia! I have tricks too. You could use them! I am fully charged and ready, so ready, yes yes! Her weapon chirped at her, eager, so incredibly eager, but Lydia had to calm him down with an almost dismissive shushing. Another time perhaps, Rorric? I don't want to overwhelm myself on the first day! Overenthusiastic as she might behave, she knew better then to bite off more then she could chew. Most of the time. With a wild grin she darted forward, attempting to avoid those spinning daggers while lashing out at him again. HP: 32 Damage: 4 Charge: 3/3

This was not Molly; bumbling, too-cheerful Molly with her cupcakes and her knitting and her obvious lack of experience in certain fields. Molly, at least to Alistaire, felt as though she would at least be a relatively interesting opponent, and that she had a mind of her own capable of answering his questions, even if she was a little naive.
This girl, on the other hand, seemed completely filled with one thing and that was luck.
She was a girl on this island, not a woman - someone too young to understand truly the negative aspects of being at Deus Ex Machina, but who had the fortune of being able to simply fight without having had too much training. It was rather embarrassing, at least to Alistaire, who had anticipated an easy win.
Clearly he'd been wrong.
The look on Alistaire's face was calm, but there was a forced edge to it, his teeth clenched together as the whip cracked against his side.He countered with a swing of his own, aiming one of the black daggers at her thigh, instead of her torso.
"Yes, well," he said, almost a growl, "I have a lot of tricks, my dear."
