[PRP] A little game of cat and... cat [Carlos/Jala] (FIN)

Carlos had taken up residence in one of the trees near campus. It was a nice tree, a very comfortable tree. He had decided he like it better than that old dusty place called his room.

Curling up in it he had taken a nap. Lazy words like fiddle sticks and brittle pumpkins floated through his head. He was here there and everywhere. He was Nowhere, but really he was just in that tree. Curled up with his tail wrapped around it, his paws settle beneath him. Truly he should be practicing or something like that but he was far to lazy for that.

No one was around to motivate him, so he really got the chance to be what he truly was, a lazy cat.

Suddenly his world shook. Carlos opened his eyes and looked up staring at the monster above him. Gold eyes stared and he did the natural thing, turned slightly invisible, forgetting that his strips were perfectly seen at this close of range.

She was staring directly at him. The power of her eyes had him paralyzed. Bellow him was a clear jumping range, an easy escape but he couldn't move his paws, he just stared up and up at the ghoul who had taken over his branch wondering what exactly she was doing.

"What makes a Bandersnatch a Bandersnatch?"

He's too stupid to run.

"But what makes a bandersnatch a bandersnatch? Is it his long neck or big claws? It is that it leaps to and fro?" He stared up speaking carefully. It seemed that the monster did not understand what he was really getting at. "But why, why call it a bandersnatch? Why not a fiddledumpling or a horpmferat?" his tail swished. He really really didn't like being stared at. It was horrible. He tried to leap up to a higher branch.

go ahead and catch him or something.

"But... eeep!" Carlos was caught and suddenly hung like a dead fish his limbs going completely limp. Carlos was caught. Carlos was caught! He let his head roll to a side and stared up at Jala with big sad eyes. His collar had slipped and exposed a lot of teeth twisted into a mocking happy face. Carlos was not happy at all, the rest of his body clearly read, almost as if he were dead.

He fell into the most default question of all. "Why." Why was she holding him like this, why did she want to play with him, why did she come here at all. This why asked all of this and yet none of it coupled with sad eyes and a mad grin.

There were a lot of teeth. A lot. More teeth than he should be able to fit into his head. When she let go Carlos turned and twisted like a corpse falling spread eagle on his face. The reality was it was the simple cat fall designed to lessen the impact of the landing from a height, but it looked rather painful. Carlos was fine though. Carlos had received similar treatment from his siblings before. He just lay there looking like a mess for a long moment and then two as he gathered up the effort to actually lift his head and look at her, still wearing the grin.

"What has 9 lives? What has a grin made of cheese? What is black and blue with stripes all over? Carlos the Cheshire cat!" he let out a small mew and his tail picked up and waved about.

It occurred to him for a moment, just for a moment, that he should run. But that would require getting up and getting up took effort and he was already down here. Instead he just turned a little more invisible, his grin staying, standing out clearer against his partially faded form. His stripes were also there as if solid; despite his best efforts, he was pretty easy to see.

"What has the horns of a goat, the claws of a lion and the venom of a snake," he paused a moment. "and likes to drop kittens from trees?" he added. Mmm maybe he should have left off the last bit, it was better without. Hummm, certainly not his best riddle.

That would take effort. Too lazy.

Carlos had no clue that it was his smile freaking her out. It was just a smile, one like all of his siblings.

But he purred at her comment. "Thank you. I am quiet mad. We are all mad here." he stared at her eyes half lidded. She must like him. Just a little. she was complimenting him so.

Still he was too lazy to get up. That meant effort. Maybe he would continue his nap right here.

Awe she was denying it. she must really love him.

"I suppose." he looked about. but not here. It was too exposed. Carlos actually, finally, floated up. He floated over to another tree, toes not quiet touching the ground and then his illusion claws appeared. With 6 limbs he shimmied up the trunk of the tree, aiming for a nice branch a few branches up. His tail swished behind him and he climbed making his way up and settled on a branch.

Oh his collar had slipped, and illusion hand reached up and tugged it back into place. There much better.

Little did Carlos know his protection was gone.
