High up on Evan's list of people to check up on--not the highest, that dubious honor went to family first, but definitely higher than most and maybe even in the top five--was Chel. Beyond their casual flirtations, she was a Sun, and she was the first person he had ever helped through the transition of forced sleep into the awareness of their new reality, and that made him feel a little responsible for her. More than that, he had missed her, and it would be nice to see a friendly face. That in mind, he knocked on her door.

"Come in!" Chel called from behind the door. Her hands were full with the shirt she was changing into.
Chel's door was almost always open, and regardless of if it was Dory or if it was Caelius, Chel did not give a ******** who saw her shirtless. At least she had undergarments on okay.

Evan entered Chel's room, turning to shut the door behind him, and stopped cold as he turned back around to see Chel shirtless. A wide grin slowly spread across his face as he leaned back against the door. "How'd you know I was coming?" Evan asked, letting his eyes wander--he figured Chel wouldn't mind, being that she was the one who had invited him in.

Chel rolled her eyes as the rest of her shirt slipped on, followed by a plaid flannel that put her somewhere between a lumberjack and a homeless person.
"And to what do I owe the please, Mr. Evans," Chel asked, putting her hands on her hips. "Though if you came just for a peek, I'm going to have to charge you."

Evan made a disappointed noise--only half in jest--as Chel put a shirt on. "Just came to check up on you. It's been a while," he said, taking slow, measured steps further into the room, closer to its occupant. "Didn't mind the peek, though." He winked at her as he sat, uninvited, on the corner of her bed. A moment of consideration, and then, "What's the going rate for another?" It had been a long six months, after all.

In a pixie-like manner, Chel flitted across the room to sit on Evan's lap, arms wrung around his neck. She leaned back and kicked her legs, saying, "Your entire salary for a year."
She didn't move to do anything more than that, but she also didn't remove herself from his lap. "Something on your mind?" Chel pursed her lips and added, "Hm, well I've been fine. Died and shot in a dream, but apparently I just rammed myself into an infirmary cot in real life. Whoops."

Evan sighed in mostly-fake regret, his arms settling around Chel's waist as she made herself comfortable on his lap. "Too rich for my blood," he said, shaking his head. Died and shot would have sounded more alarming if they were anywhere else in the world, doing anything else; on Deus, it was just business as usual. "Nah, nothing really, just wanted to make sure you were okay. What else is new and good around here? Fill me in, I just got back."

"Got back? From where?" she knew Evan had been sparse, but for Suns that was nothing new. She figured he'd just been out on routine field missions and she'd missed him or something. It happened all the time.
She shrugged and said, "Well how long ya been gone? Gotta know where to start."

"Everywhere," Evan responded on a sigh. "Too many places to remember. I was on rotation, they just sent me to whichever outpost needed an extra body for as long as they needed it." He hugged Chel close, briefly, happy for the contact in the form of a friendly face. "Think I've been gone...six months? Seven?" He shrugged. "Time flies."

Chel didn't enjoy her hugs and snuggling Evan was no different. He felt like he needed the hug more than he let on though.
"Well we need that extra body here if you know what I'm sayinnnnn'-" She coughed and said, "I mean uh ..."
She leaned back and snuggled him further. "Broke up with Nevada. That count?" It was still slightly awkward, but she at least didn't feel overwhelming annoyance anymore. "My cousin came to the island. Son of a b***h. More recently we went into another one of those distortion rift things. 'Cept this one was in our dreams." Well that didn't make her sound ******** insane.

"You can have my body wherever you want it, Powder Puff," Evan replied without thought or shame. It was okay, he felt, to offer this, even if nothing would come of it, because she didn't need him for anything more. A brow quirked at the news that Chel and Nevada had broken up--higher as he realized that he hadn't even known they were together. "I'm sorry to hear that," he replied automatically, puzzling over the rest of her rundown of events. The dangers they faced, even in their dreams, was just another job hazard, and as long as everyone was okay, Evan didn't see a need to look at it too hard. But family..."You want me to kick his a** for you?"

"Nah, don't be sorry. I broke it off with her. She was bein' a crazy b***h." If Chel knew Nevada's current situation, she probably wouldn't have spoken so lightly, but what could you do?
Chel debated his offer to kick Chris' a**. It would be funny, certainly. "Meh. It's fine. We made peace with it." She leaned closer in secrecy and admitted, "To be honest, I'm not mad at him." How did she put this without getting too #deep. "When I was recruited, they told me they wouldn't touch Chris if I came. Didn't turn out so well, as you can see, so we're both kind of ******** now."
She stood up from his lap, pulling his hands with her as she did to keep him close. "I got an idea. Why don't we skip town and I'll take you somewhere fun. You can tell me 'bout all your adventures n' s**t."

Evan's lips twitched into a brief, puzzled frown at Chel's reasons for splitting with Nevada. He didn't know Nevada that well, but she seemed like a nice enough person-- crazy may have been applicable, though, after that debacle with Tuck, and he supposed losing an eye would take its toll on anyone. It wasn't his place to refute Chel's opinions, though, so he shrugged it off. It was somewhat alarming, but not really surprising, that Deus had broken a promise. Much like the actual military, they were prone to saying one thing and doing a completely different thing right in the open, without shame, where anyone could see it. "Well, at least you're together. Family's important." Evan shot Chel a quizzical look as he stood, following the tug of his hands. "Sounds like a plan. Where did you have in mind?"

Chel snorted at Evan's statement about family being important, but didn't say anything if it mattered to her. No reason to stir that ******** up pot. Chel was a pot stirrer, but not when it came to Chris.
She kept her hand around one of Evan's wrists, but used her free hand to grab a coat and a bag that held her wallet and money (though really, it was quite useless on Deus most of the time).
"Oh just ... somewhere you'll like. Promise."
---
They stood outside of the infamous Victoria's Secret, where boobs and butts ran amok. Chel had selected a particularly busy mall, which meant many people were currently present at the fated store.
She wrapped her hand in Evan's and said, "Just pretend you're my boyfriend and I'll be the greatest wingman in history."

Evan was content to let Chel drag him around, surprised that she had taken him to a mall but curious to see where this was going to lead. He definitely hadn't expected Victoria's Secret to be their destination, and he was immediately suspicious of Chel's motives--but he trusted her, just enough, to know what she was doing. He squeezed her hand as he squinted down at her. "This better not end with me in women's underwear, Chel, I swear to God..."
