George wheeled about in the warm shallows, the thick gold chain between his teeth towing him back down even as he tried to reach the shore. The thing was huge - so big that when he tried to wear it, the necklace simply slipped down over his shoulders, around his tail, and sank to the sea floor. He'd dropped it and had to start his journey toward the beach over again more times than he could count; it'd already been hours, and his teeth were beginning to ache.
Finally finding himself in water shallow enough that his tail touched the wet sand underneath him, George turned around and flung the necklace up the shore and into water only a few inches deep. It glimmered in the sunlight, throwing golden light into the water and against the sand around it. Swimming over to it, he looked around, but there was no one on the beach. Where are the traders when you need them? What he really needed was a fence, but today, he had to fill that role; stealing such a distinctive necklace from that kelpi was not the best decision he'd ever made.
With an exhale, George floated in the warm water, watching the guppies swim around him, and waited for someone to appear.
