(Feel free to read on)

Something strange is going down in Old Chicago Town...well, stranger than usual. Unusual, and not to mention gruesome, deaths have been popping up all around the windy city that even have Chicago's Finest, the Special Investigations Unit, completely stumped. All the vics appear to be service men and women, either retired or still in active service. And when things like this tend to happen in her city, Sgt Murphy gives the only wizard in the phonebook a call. But it seems that Wizard PI, Harry Dresden isn't the only one on the case.

Usually, my idea of a good time doesn't involve running around the South Side at 11 o'clock at night in 45 degrees and rain, but the things I do for money. I'm being paid to help CPD solve a case that involves service men and women being killed and having their livers taken out. Okay, harvesting certain organs doesn't exactly narrow down my pool of suspects. Lots of supernatural nasties do that, well...according to lore they do, but in my line of work, ancient lore is probably one of the better resources you have to arm yourself against all that go bump in the night. I also was able to inspect some of the wounds on the body and they turned out to be caused by arrowheads, so it is possible that what ever I'm dealing with could possible be Native American of origin, which is not exactly maddeningly helpful either. I hadn't had a chance to talk to Bob yet, and plus I might not have enough details for him to give me an accurate deduction on what I am exactly dealing with here. But there has to be a connection between the vics and the killer, I mean, they were all in the military one way or another. So far, there were three army, a navy, and a marine.

I began raking through the alleyways with my staff clutched in my left hand, since most nasties don't like to be in plain sight. So a darky seedy alleyway is the perfect habitat for the evasive...what ever it was. As I walked up and down numerous alleys, the rain started to come down more heavily, causing droplets of water to roll off my duster. I was just about to call it quits when I spotted what looked like bloody claw marks scratched on the side of a brick building and they left some sort of residue that looked like pale slimey skin. "Eureka." I grinned to myself and scraped some of the residue of the wall and into my hand, and it felt as slimey as it looked. Ew. I then reached into my pocket and pull out a piece of chalk and drew a circle around myself. Then, pushing some of my will into the newly drawn circle, I closed it and sort of isolated me from any other energies that might interfere with conjuring up a tracking spell. reaching into my duster pocket once more, I pulled out a small crystal rod with a leather string tied around it. I placed some of the residue in the crystal and began muttering in Latin my tracking spell, concentrating on spell which caused the crystal in my hand to glow a bright white light.

DEAN AND SAM

"Alright, Sam. What's the story?" Dean asked as he drove the impala through the city, the windshield wipers going back and forth rapidly to push aside the rain. He cast a quick glance to his little brother.

"Well," he began, looking at the screen of his laptop that illuminated the front of the car. "Apparently people--All active or former servicemen have been being killed for the past few weeks."

                                                      "Yeah, and?"

Sam lifted his head and looked to his brother, a small furrow to his brow. "All their livers were removed."

He almost rolled his eyes. Dean sighed and watched the dark road. "Well that only narrows it down to, oh say... about a hundred different monsters. Any other clues to what we're dealing with?"

"No. But hopefully we'll find something when we see the body."

A neon sign caught the older brother's attention as Sam spoke. A restaurant. A steak house. Dean could practically feel his stomach tie itself in knots from hunger. He wasn't even sure when he ate last. Yesterday? Last night? He didn't know. But he did know it was too long.

The impala came to a slow stop at a red light. Looking out his window Dean could still see the steak house. His mind began to wander on thoughts of what he could eat in there. Rib-eye slathered in barbecue sauce. Maybe some mashed potatoes with real gravy. A nice hot roll with butter-- "Dean!" He jumped and turned his head to Sam, who, judging by the waiting expression on his face, had asked Dean a question that he just didn't hear in his day-dreaming.

                                                      "What?" he asked.

Sam leaned forward to look around him and caught sight of the restaurant. Looking back to his brother, he sighed and grinned with a light chuckle. "Do you want to stop and eat before we find someplace to stay?"

Dean couldn't shift the car into reverse fast enough. "Sweet Baby Ray, yes," he said and looked in the rear view before stepping on the gas, backing the impala up to the turn-in for the steak house.

Looking at Dean, Sam could only grin as he watched his brother finish off his potatoes. Sam of course took to a lighter meal which he had finished a few minutes ago. Grilled lemon pepper chicken breast with a side salad. He even treated himself to a small piece of chocolate cake afterwards. But Dean had ordered just about two full meals that made Sam cringe. He'd be surprised if Dean didn't die of a heart attack before some creature got to him. When Dean finally dropped his fork and leaned back with a content sigh Sam just looked at him.

"What?" Dean asked, raising a brow.

Sam shook his head slowly, that grin still on his face.

                                                      "What?!" Dean asked again.

                                                      "Nothing! Just..." Sam trailed off.

                                                      "Just what, Sam?"

"I can't believe you ate two quarter-pounders, two helpings of mashed potatoes and green beans, and six rolls..."

"Hey! I was hungry! I'm a man, Sam. I need to eat!" Dean told him. "Besides, it's a lot better than that rabbit food you ate."

Sam sighed and closed his eyes for a brief moment. "It's not rabbit food, Dean. It's called eating healthy. I wont be surprised if you die of cardiac arrest before you're fifty."

"Well hey, if I make it to fifty I did a good job. Most of us don't make it that far," Dean said, heavily hinting that hunters didn't usually live long before something killed them.

"I just think you'd feel better if you ate better," Sam told him as he slid out of the booth and grabbed his jacket. Pulling out his wallet he took out a few wrinkled twenties and put them on the table next to the bill.

"What are you talking about? I feel great!" The older brother exclaimed. Moving to slid out the booth, Dean found it a bit difficult and sat there for a moment, taking a couple deep breaths. He'd ate so much that now he felt heavy and tired. Looking up to Sam he saw his brother's raised brows and general I-told-you-so expression. Clenching his jaw and looking down at the table, Dean grumbled under his breath before pushing himself out of the booth.

Sam flipped up the hood to his jacket as he opened the door of the restaurant and stepped out into the pouring rain. He held the door open for his brother before making his way towards the car. But a sudden white glow out of the corner of his eyes caught his attention. His brows knitted together in confusion as he struggled to focus through the heavy rain at the light. When he started to make out the shape of a person he grew cautious and watched silently.

"Sam?" Dean called to him from the car.

He heard him, but didn't look away from the figure in the dark alley.

                                                      "Sam! Hey!"

                                                      "Dean. Look." Sam replied quietly.

Dean's brows wrinkled and he stepped over, looking off in the direction his brother was facing. Immediately he saw a figure holding some type of glowing... thing. A confused look came to his face. "What the...?"

"Is that a... staff, in his hand?" Sam asked, just as puzzled as his brother.

"Well, you don't see that everyday," Dean muttered. "C'mon, let's see what Glowy is up to." He stepped away and back over to the car.

When Dean popped the trunk, Sam walked over quickly and reached into the arsenal of weapons, pulling out a handgun. He made sure it was loaded and stepped away to look back towards the person in the alley way. Dean grabbed a gun for himself and closed the trunk lightly before walking past Sam. Sticking to the shadows of the streets, the two brothers made their way towards the alley.

Dean peered around the corner quietly, gun held firmly in his hands as he watched the figure. His eyes narrowed. Through the beating of the rain he could hear murmurs. And as he concentrated, he could swear this guy was speaking Latin. He pulled back around the corner and looked to Sam. "Glowy's speaking Latin," He whispered.

"What?" Sam could barely hear through the rain.

"Latin," Dean repeated, a bit louder, but not much.

San's eyes widened slightly. He'd heard his brother that time. That and reading his lips. "You think this guy's been the one killing people? Organs are used in some spells."

"Yeah, I dunno. But if you ask me, it's pretty creepy to be doing magic in a dark alley at night in the rain..."

Dean looked back to Sam and nodded his head towards the alley. When Sam nodded back Dean moved, stepping into the alley with his gun raised at the guy. "Hey!" He called out. Sam came out behind him with his gun raised as well. "Stop your hocus pocus and tell us what you're doing! You been the one killing people!?"

As soon as the tracking spell was complete, I broke the circle around be by scuffing out some of the chalk. As it broke, it gave off a little pop like how your ears react to different pressure, then the crystal dangling from the leather string in my hand started spinning wildly, trying to get a fix on whatever I linked it up with. I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in confusion at the crystal. Normally, it wouldn't take this long to, for lack of a better term, lock on target. Which could mean two things, either the thing I'm tracking is moving extremely fast or it is not technically alive in a human sense, possibly both for all I know. Then I heard a gruff voice come from behind me.

"Hey! Stop your hocus pocus and tell us what you're doing! You been the one killing people!?"

I turned around and saw two men, one taller than the other but still not as tall as me, both with threatening looks on their faces and pointing guns at me. Now, I'm used to having guns being pointed at me, it comes with the job. But when it's really early in the case, it is just plain annoying...well, its always annoying but you get my point. I tried to get a better look at them without making eye contact, because an accidental Soulgaze will just do wonders for diplomacy. Anyway, they both seemed to be wearing the same basic clothing. Army jacket, plaid, jeans, and bikerboots. Maybe they were cops or FBI, but then I looked to the taller one and immediately crossed out that conclusion. No self-respecting government agency would let anyone's hair grow that long. But then begs the question of who are they, and why are they interested in the killings?

"Yeah, because I immediately tell anyone who points a gun at me exactly what I'm doing." Okay, maybe the sarcasm wasn't the best idea in the world, but they don't call me a wise-a** for nothing. Then, just as I was about to answer the other question, the spell induced crystal in my hand stopped spinning and pointed straight up which was then followed by a sickening plop. I looked over and saw something thick and slimey land on my shoulder that looked strangely like someone hacked a luigi on my duster. Again, ew. I looked up and then I saw something that I could've gone a lifetime without seeing. Whatever it was, it was perched on the roof of the building next to us, looking down at us with beedy red eyes. It looked almost 8ft tall and consisted of nothing but skin and bones, not to mention that it looked humanoid enough to amp up the creep factor. What really got my attention were the long jagged claws and shark-like teeth it possessed. Then another drop of what I now deduced as monster drool landed on my shoulder. "Uh-oh..." Master of the witty dialogue, that's me. Then, before I could conjure up any will for either a spell or a shield, it let out an ear-splitting shriek which caused me to flinch and cover my ears to avoid possibly rupturing an eardrum.

DEAN AND SAM

Dean's face hardened when Glowy sassed him. "Don't think I wont pull this trigger, smart a**. What are you doing?!" He demanded again. But the spinning crystal in the guy hand suddenly stopped, causing the hunter's sights to shift towards it. Confusion yet again on his face as he watched it. What the heck is that thing, he thought.

                                                      Plop.

Now a gooy, gross mess of... something had dropped from the sky and landed on the guys shoulder. But Sam looked up before Dean.

The youngest Winchester had never seen anything like it. The city lights only illuminated so much of it. What Sam could make out made a chill run up his spin. Whatever this thing was, even through the rain, he could see the pale skin that seemed to be stretched over bones. Long talon-like nails. And the teeth, they looked like a vampire's fangs, only longer and a lot more of them without the human teeth between them. Sam watched as the creature sat perched, he could feel his heart start to race in his confused fear.

Another drop of what Sam could only suspect was saliva fell onto the guy in front of him and his brother. Dean was even watching the monster sitting on the roof. He'd never even heard of something like this. The red glowing points for eyes seemed to be staring right down at him. Dean stepped back and kept his eyes on the thing, having to blink every other second to keep rain out his eyes.

Suddenly the creature cried out in an ear splitting shriek. Both Winchester quickly lifted their hands to shield their ears, hunching over somewhat in the unbearable sound.

"What the hell is that thing?!" Dean shouted through the monster's cry.

Managing to look back up, Sam caught sight the thing again.

After Bony (what I appropriately decided to name it for the time being) was done shrieking, it jumped from its perch and was going to land on top of me. I managed to side-step out of the way of its line of fall, then I pointed my staff at it and yelled, "FOZARE!!". Lacing my will behind my words and through my staff, silvery light erupted from the end of the staff and slammed into Bony, causing it to get hurdled into the brick wall with a loud THUD.

Normally, being slammed into a brick wall with that much force would have killed a normal human no problem, but this thing bounce off and landed on all fours like it was nothing. Looks like I did nothing but just pissed it off. It shrieked again then it charged me, claws extended and teeth snapping. I quickly shook out my shield bracelet and poured as much will as I possibly could into it, conjuring up a large transparent, blue, glowing semi-circle shield and raised it in time for a force equivalent to a speeding 16-wheeler to slam into it. Sparks flew in every direction as it raked its claws against the shield, trying to break it.

DEAN AND SAM

The Winchesters didn't know what was going on. One second the monster was perched on the roof, the next it was being slammed into the brick wall of the building to the side. Only Sam caught sight of the witch using his staff to blast the creature.

But the shrieking had stopped. The two brothers uncovered their ears and regained themselves as they watched in shock at the display of the man in front of them. Whatever this monster was, it didn't seem harmed in the least as it bounced back from the wall.

Another shriek. The Winchesters covered their ears again for a second before seeing this bony creature leap at the strange witch with razor sharp claws extended.

Dean lifted his gun an aimed, but before he could get a shot off, a blue glow erupted from the man's wrist and seemed to keep the monster at bay with a show of sparks as the monster tried to claw its way through the mystical shield. Dean took the opportunity. He aimed his gun and fired at the beast. The sound gunfire rang through the alley.

While trying to hold off against the thing, I heard gunshots ring throughout the alley which was met by a loud growl and hiss from Bony. Apparently one of the guys shot at it and one of the bullets met its target. The creature whipped its pale slimy head around and snarled at the two men. Looks like bullet don't really do anything to hurt it either, judging by the way that it jumped off my shield and towards the two at the end of the alley, pushing me back at least ten feet. Luckily, my leather jacket kept me from getting cut up from the concrete, but the force was enough to knock the wind out of me. Okay, I'm adding extremely powerful and invulnerable to the list of clues to try and figure out what the hell this thing was. Was it another Skinwalker? Stars, I hoped not. I couldn't help but shiver from the thought of the last encounter with one.

The two men continued firing upon the creature as it lunged at them with their bullets having no effect on it. I had to do something. Okay, those two didn't exactly give me a stellar first impression, but they didn't deserve to die at that hands of Bony. I reached into the inside of my duster and pulled out my blasting rod, a foot and a half long stick of wood that was about twice as thick as my thumb with runes carved along the length of it. "Duck!" I yelled at the two men before lifting up the rod, runes glowing orange as I poured my will into it, charging up a spell. I aimed at Bony and just as it was upon them, I yelled, "FUEGO!!. A thick plume of red-orange fire erupted from the end of the rod and slammed into the back of the creature. It howled out in pain as it sailed harmlessly over the two men. As soon as it recovered, watching burned flesh slowly healing, it turned around and shrieked once more before it jumped on top of a nearby building and made a hasty retreat. I lowered my still smoking rod, panting hard for all that magic I threw around in such a short period of time left me pretty drained.

DEAN AND SAM

The brothers fired their guns at the creature. But it didn't seem to be doing much at all to harm it either. It kept coming at them, only being jerked slightly by each shot. Dean could feel a sense of panic take over as he realized this thing didn't care that it was being shot it. The look on its disgustingly thin and skeletal face piercing right through what little bit of his soul was left after everything he's been through.

Then a shot hit it straight in the eye. Sam's shot. The thing shrieked and paused. It obviously felt the pain of the bullet as it tore through whatever kind of eye it had. It held up its bony hands to its face and seemed to cry out in pain before it ultimately healed.

                                                      "Duck!"

Sam and Dean glanced to the witch and watched the stick in his hand begin glow in intricate patterns. Then he lifted it towards them. The two Winchesters dropped to the wet ground as the fire came at a rush over them, sending the creature flying overhead. The sound of its painful shrieking deafening again.

When the roar of the flames ceased, the brothers looked up to make sure it was clear before getting up while looking over towards the beast. It was healing. All the burned flesh was regenerating slowly, but fast enough to cause the boys to be cautious and step back, re-aiming their guns on it.

But it shrieked again. They covered their ears once more and watched as it jumped up onto a nearby roof and disappear.

Lowering their hands, the two brother's exchanged confused looks between each other then looked over toward the man that had seemingly just saved their lives. With clenched jaws they began to walk over towards him.

Sam noticed the man's breathing and grew a bit concerned. "Hey... are you alright?" He asked cautiously, approaching him.

"What the hell was that thing?!" Dean shouted at him, not too alarmed by the guy's labored breaths. As Dean figured, if he was upright and breathing at all, he'd be fine.

Seeing that the two men were okay, I placed a hand up against the brick wall, leaning up against it. I probably looked and sounded like I just completed a marathon in Death Valley. I looked up and saw the two approach me with caution in their steps. I guess I would be too if I saw me slinging around fire and what not.

"Hey... are you alright?" The taller of the two asked.

I could've responded with a snarky comeback, but they still have guns and Shorty looked like he had an itchy trigger finger, and a bullet lodged in my head would've definitely ruin my day. "I'm fine, just a...little winded..." I managed to say in between breaths.

"What the hell was that thing?!" Shorty asked.

I stood up straight again, looking between the two and avoiding eye contact so I won't accidently trigger a soulgaze. "Your guess is as good as mine." I responded and walked over to where my staff landed when it was knocked out of my hand as I got pushed back by the creature. After I grabbed it, I leaned heavily on it and looked back over at Biggy and Smalls. "You two should get out of here before the cops show up." I told them, but something told me that they weren't going anywhere until I answer their bombardment of questions.

DEAN AND SAM

"Yeah, well. You just let us worry about the cops," Dean quipped gruffly.

Sam was watching the witch carefully as he leaned against the staff. "You're not the one killing people, are you? It's that monster," he said. "Who are you... What are you? Was that magic?" he asked, reaching behind him to shove his gun back into his pants.

"I've never seen magic like that. You working with demons?" the older brother asked as he stepped forward. He however chose to keep his gun in hand in case Sammy had the wrong impression.

Annnddd there they are. I looked up at the two again, the taller one decided to put his gun away which gave me the comforting thought that maybe they can be reasoned with. Then my eyes shifted towards Shorty who did have the courtesy to at least lower his weapon, but still kept it firmly in his hand. I guess I couldn't judge the guy too much. Normal folk tend to get a little jumpy seeing some giant in a leather duster fighting monsters and slinging around magic. I know, crazy right?

"Who are you... What are you? Was that magic?" The taller one asked.

I sighed and decided to come clean with these guys. "The name's Harry, and I'm a wizard. And before you say anything, no I'm not related to the character in those books." I said in rather annoyed tone. Man if I had a nickel for every prank call that I picked up and the person on the other end responded with "Potter!", I'd have enough to pay this month's rent.

"I've never seen magic like that. You working with demons?" Shorty asked.

"Then you clearly haven't ran into any wizards before. And no, no selling of soul here." I said, but then gave the two a bit of an odd look. "Ok, my turn. Who are you and why does a couple of vanilla mortals even know about magic and demons?" I asked. Usually vanilla mortals don't even believe in the crap that I have to deal with every day, but these two are talking about it like they deal with it on a daily basis. Who the hell were they?

DEAN AND SAM

"What's the difference between a wizard and a witch?" Dean asked, not really thinking there was a difference. But there was a difference in this guy's magic, that was for damn sure.

But at being asked who they were, Dean continued to watch him for a moment cautiously. This wizard or whatever introduced himself, might as well get on a first name basis with the guy. "I'm Dean. This is Sam."

"We're hunters," Sam added. "We've run into some witches and demons."

I kind of just rolled my eyes at the shorter man, it seems that I get asked this question way too often. "Well first of all, witches are generally female. Also, they tend to use more ritual magic which doesn't require any magical abilities at all. And for those who do, generally gain it by the whole selling your soul thing." I explained. "Wizards on the other hand are born with their magic, but very few can sling around as much mojo as I can. Most are Minor Practitioners, which are kinda like one trick ponies."

Then the two of them finally introduced themselves as Sam and Dean, and not only that but they were hunters, which by the context, I'm guessing they have a really specific game. "So like...monster hunters?" I asked with slight disbelief in my voice.

DEAN AND SAM

Sam looked at Harry. He watched him as he spoke, explaining the difference between wizards and witches. According to Harry, Sam and Dean had run into witches through their jobs. But a few stood out to the younger Winchester that seemed to have this natural gift.

He nodded, thinking over all the witches and possible wizard's he'd seen.

"Monsters, Demons, the occasional Angel, a few gods..."Dean listed, trailing off.

                                                      "Don't forget fairies," Sam added.

"Damn fairies," the older brother grumbled.
