It wasn't often that Calypso brought potential Scouts out for a walk of the border, but she had made a point of her patrol this muggy, almost freakishly early morning to do just that. She stood proud and tall; being a large lioness before she joined Calypso put the natural stalk almost to shame with her physique, though it was physically marred with a mirage of scars. Her smile, however, was as calm as the evening sky and just as gentle.
As she waited near the watering hole she pondered over the candidates- or rather, hopefuls. One was grand-nephew to her mate's good friend, so it was more of a favor to take him on than anything else, but the other two she knew nothing of. Maybe she would be lucky and they would all show outstanding potential. Strong, quiet, easy to read the surroundings, and above all, punctuality.

LATE. Oh man, Calypso was going to have his head for this! Waridi'upya careened down the steep rock facing outside of his latest hiding spot and raced to the watering hole. His short mane fluttered uneasily against his stocky neck, painting a picture of the lion he was to grow into. Where was she? He couldn't see her yet which was so, so, SO bad. He needed to find her, and fast, before she gave anyone a bad report!
Finally, when he saw the large dusky orange lioness he slid to a stop beside her and grinned, "Right...right on time..." Waridi wheezed, leaning over despite himself to try and catch his breath. Looking up, the arch stare she gave him was enough to cause a nervous laugh to break out. "Well, I'm not late, you can't count me out for that.
"One should arrive early, to set a good impression."

Moyo hated being late, to anything - especially something which he had arranged himself. His little sister was not one to plan things in advance, at all, so it was why he was a little late. He grumbled a little as he stalked towards the meeting spot. His mane had come in full already, so really he should have made a decision on his life choices already, but he wanted to make sure he was making the correct decision.
"Hurry up, Nyota!" He insisted, throwing a glance back at his disorientated sister.
Nyota rolled her eyes in annoyance, miming her brother's words back at him. She wasn't really disrespectful, just not interested in being all polite and stuff, like Moyo was. She was covered in dust and a little bit of mud clung to her front paw where she had been playing in the dirt earlier. She was a fairly stocky-built female, but she moved surprisingly quickly.
"We won't be late, Moyo, calm down," she called back, throwing out a devilish grin. "Well, if we are, it won't be because of me." She dug her claws into the dirt, using her bulky frame to launch herself forward and take off into a quick paced run. She bolted passed her brother easily, heading towards the meeting spot with surprisng speed for her size.
"Damn it, Nyota!" Moyo grumbled, and took off at a run too, but he was slower.
She reached the waiting lions first, and skidded to a halt in front of them. "We're ready!" She announced cheerfully, not out of breath at all. Moyo arrived moments later, a little more flustered looking.
"I apologise, we had meant to be early," Moyo tried to excuse.

One did not need to see the pair approach to know they were coming. Calypso believed that even the deaf could hear them approaching, which was a check in the wrong direction for the position they were coming to be examined for. Maybe it was just the sibling dynamic? Either way, when she saw the pair approach at a run Calypso had to fight not to pinch the bridge of her nose. Were they ALL that excited? Well, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but still.
"It's alright Moyo, on time is better than late." She stated pleasantly. "It's nice to see the both of you up so early and well energized. I'll have to make sure to put that to good use."
It was odd, how time seemed to slow around Nyota as she came galloping like a Goddess in flight towards the area. It was all Waridi had been able to see for the longest time. The sun on her muddy paw, glistening as if it were a jewel. How muscularly thick her neck was, the tilt of her jaw as she spoke...Ah, if ever a boy had a crush, it was Waridi.
Standing up a little straighter, the adolescent looked between the three. "Shouldn't we be heading out soon? The sun is already rising higher into the sky." There; stern, mature and ready to do his duty. If that didn't make her notice him he didn't know what would. Unbeknownst to him his little staring problem might get him more unwanted attention than anything else.
Nodding, Calypso took stock of the lions and turned towards the border at an even, languid trot. Waridi had the right of it, if they didn't move soon the borders would be exposed for far too long and any kind of filth might make its way in. "This way, then. Keep an eye out for anything unusual; as of this moment your eyes are the eyes of the King, surveying everything the light touches.

Moyo was very glad when the scout was not angry at them for their slight lateness, in fact she seemed very respectful. Finally! Someone with manners! He was slowly getting driven crazy around his sister and mother, both of whom were more than a little rough around the edges. His father, thankfully, was his source of manners.
"I appreciate your understanding, miss." He nodded, glancing towards the younger male who seemed rather distracted by Nyota. Oh god no. He did not need that.
"What's your name, if I may ask?" he asked the boy. He knew of Calypso, considering he had requested her presence.
Nyota brushed her fur a little, flakes of dust coming from her fluff. Wow, she was messy, she mused. A twig fell out of her fur as well, and she blinked. Huh. Maybe she should jump in the river soon.
She glanced up as the scout directed them.
"Do you scout every morning?" she asked, "or do you take it in shifts with other scouts?' She would hate getting up this early every morning, but she supposed it was an important job to do nonetheless.

"Please, just call me Calypso, or Caly, if you prefer. I would like to think that we're all friends here." She looked over her shoulder, her ever present smile breaking through her scars. Granted, at the same time she saw the infatuated eyes of the adolescent on the female and...Oh Gods above, no, not today.
Turning her attention to Nyota, she answered. "While I prefer to do my patrols in the early morning hours, others do theirs at other times. I just prefer these hours because it's quieter, and it's convenient. I'm usually up at this time anyway, and it keeps me from waking my mate."
Okay, so the dusty flakes weren't as...amazingly feminine as he had imagined at first, but what was a true female without a few quirks? It was what made her real to him, even if it did dim the image of the Goddess. Oh Gods, was that a tree? He even thought he could smell something at this distance, which caused him to wrinkle his nose in confusion.
The break was enough to help him focus on Moyo. "Waridi'upya. Your name's Moyo, right? So, do you really want to be a Scout, or are you poking around?"

Moyo smiled at Calypso. "I would like to think so as well! Unfortunately my name is already quite short so I can't offer the use of a nickname, unless you feel like calling me Mo or MoMo. Though MoMo is no shorter than my original name, my father insists on calling me it occassionally." He rolled his eyes, but the affection for his father was blatantly obvious to anyone who looked his way.
He glanced towards the boy, and his tone turned a little more business-y. "Indeed I am Moyo." No offer of a nickname. Not when he was making googly eyes at his sister. "I'm not sure as of yet, but it is always wise to explore all options for one's life before settling on one journey. What about yourself? What are you intentions?"
Nyota crinkled her nose at all the friendly chit-chatting. It was so boring. Her name was short, and she wasn't about to offer a nickname to anyone, especially the one her dad used for her which was Mud-Face. To be fair, she had a lot of mud on her face when he gave it to her but she had washed since then! ...Well, occassionally.
"Is your mate a scout too?" Nyota asked, nosily. "Why are you up this early normally?" She knew Moyo would be dying on the inside from all her 'rudeness' but she didn't particularly care. What was wrong with asking questions?

Calypso couldn't help the little chuckle that slipped out. "I'm sorry, it's just that MoMo is an absolutely adorable name for a father to name his son. He must care for you very much." She could tell he wanted to be a big macho male about it, but there was that undeniable affection.
"My mate is indeed a Scout as well," she informed Nyota. "His name is Akairo, and you may see him, should you choose to pursue this path. He's actually the one who got me interested in the position." That, and her prior war time experience, but they needn't know that. Blinking her eyes wider, she pondered the next question. "I would say that I just enjoy the morning, and since I'm awake, might as well do my patrols while watching the sun rise, you know? When are you normally at your most active?"
Waridi'upya walked a little straighter, picking his paws up in high step fashion while navigating around the terrain. They were nearing the edge now, and the area was still rough from the battles with the Hyenas his Grandmother had lived through. The one his grandfather, and his name sake, had died in. "Hmm, probably a Storyteller, I guess." The way he walked was as lax as his speech; he cared little for his future role in the pride since he was too young to really worry about it. "I'm a Hunter now and I'm pretty good at it, but mom wants me to do something more...involved? Yeah, so, here I am." He shrugged.
Clearly the only thing he cared about at that moment was Nyota. His staring was a little more dead set now than ever, though he was just now noticing some less than viable aspects about her. Maybe if he wooed her, then she would clean up. YES. Obviously she wasn't taking care of herself because she believed it would keep her safe until her Prince came along! What a clever female, and all that cleverness would belong to him soon enough.

Moyo smiled happily, pleased at the female's laughter rather than offended as most males would be. "It seemed more appropriate when I was smaller," he admitted sheepishly. "But yes, he does. As does our mother, of course." Waa'sesere was't well known in the pride, but what people did know of her was not generally good. It was all rather grumpy and agitated stories of people bumping into her and getting snarky responses. She was harmless though! Just...not a people person.
Glancing towards the young male, who was still obviously interested in his baby sister, he narrowed his eyes. "So what you're saying is you have no definite life plans?" He summed up. "How do you expect to support yourself if you're wishy-washy about what job you want to do?" His tone was a bit sharper than before, but he still had a pleasant smile on his face.
Nyota tilted her head in thought, seemingly unaware of the boys discussion. "I am generally more awake at night," she decided. "It used to drive our parents crazy, because I never wanted to sleep when they did. The stars are just so pretty though, don't you think? Seems such a shame to waste their beauty by sleeping." She shrugged non-committal. She didn't understand why she liked the stars, or why she thought them pretty.
She just did. That was enough for her. "When does your mate do his patrols? Does he join you in the morning?" She didn't really see her questions as nosy, merely inquisitive.

"As most nicknames do. It's special to you, though, and never let it go. We're never around that long, and it will be a fond memory for you of your father." Calypso beamed with warmth. She couldn't be happier for the male before her. He seemed as if he were raised in a home that cared for him, surrounded by a pride that would bring him up and set out to find his own path. It was a life she was envious of, but she wouldn't begrudge another for having it. Thankfully she didn't know much of his mother so her judgement wouldn't be warped.
Waridi only shrugged. "Why should I? I've got my whole life ahead of me, so what's the point in rushing it?" There were so many tails to chase, stories to hear, and places to see for him to be bothered with ranks. It was a wonder his mother hadn't tanned his hide trying to make him 'productive'. Cocking his brow, Waridi caught the sharper tone, and copped an arrogant one in turn. "How do you plan to support yourself if you're still flitting around trying to find a position at your age?"
There wasn't even much of a difference, but to Waridi it might as well have been a sea.
"Boys."
Calypso's smile was calm, if not a little cold now that she had a crisp edge to her voice. It was a warning; as clear as if she had roared, but in a quieter way. "The only ones who can judge you is the Gods themselves, and your own conscience. Don't say words you may later regret." If I survive this day I am never volunteering again. No matter how much she was coerced she simply wouldn't subject herself to a day of nannying young males ever again!
Turning her attention back to Nyota she felt more at ease. For all of the girls apparent lack of hygiene she was genuinely pleasant to converse with. "The stars are beautiful. Have you been able to spot the kings? I was told when I joined that I could see them, but I haven't yet been able to." Perhaps a native would be able to, since she had never been part of those Kings domain. "Oh, Akairo? He shifts as needed, I suppose. Most of his patrols are in the morning, or during the high sun."
"I've seen the Kings." Waridi'upya blurted. The way he walked, he passed around to stand closer to Nyota. "I watch stars all the time. I can show you these cools shapes sometime, if you want to, you know, go out at night with me sometime."
