 heavy curled locks fell across the mare's amber eyes. How interesting she couldn't help but think as the fire stricken land was already regenerating. She'd managed to avoid the worst of it. the mare had just continued on by herself, not being a touchy freely type. Zillah has survived on her own for years. So why bother helping others now. yes she certainly was content. But there was this feeling inside and she wasn't sure what it was either. It had been there since the fire and she'd yet to place it leaving her quite perplexed.
She found herself traveling more. She still had her goal of course, but, it didn't seem to drive her as it used to. She wondered if it had something to do with time passing. Mother used to say something about that. Not that she'd paid attention her mom was so..... what was the word always contented.
Zillah found herself standing beside the river exiting the forest. She strode forward for a little drink. She could sense the presence of another. Pausing before reaching the water she looked around. It was not so easy to sneak up on her.
"Who's there?" she called.

 The fire had been the most stressful thing in Rion's life to date. He hadn't been home when it happened, and coming back, he had been so afraid that his parents had been affected somehow.
And, surprising absolutely no one, they acted as if literally nothing had happened. Of course. They lived in the lake. You couldn't burn water, after all.
The little sister, on the other hoof...THAT was a surprise. He didn't quite need it on top of the heart attack over his family, even if it was nerves. Though he still wasn't sure if his other sisters were okay...but he hoped for the best.
That was really all he had at this point. He wanted to wait it out and see if they might turn up, but maybe they weren't as close as he thought. So after getting used to having a baby sister, and making sure the old 'rentals were doing well enough without him around (of course they were, with a replacement and all), he went on his merry way.
Maybe he'd find his sisters in this great big world. Or something, at least. Something a little less...world-ending than a great forest fire, maybe. Or just not destructive at all. That'd be a step in the right direction.
He had started his journey swimming from the lake he had grown up in, to the river between the village and the forest. Marion had been around here before, and he didn't see any harm in backtracking. After a whole day of swimming, he finally pulled himself from the water and shook himself off, wet braid flip-flopping befor plopping heavily on the ground. Why did he let it grow so LONG?
His ears flicked when he heard a voice downstream. He looked towards the mare, then from side to side. Well, there sure was no one else around... "Uhh...me? I guess?"

Zillah tensed, one never knew what wandered about these lands. She was not entirely familiar with this area, with the recent activity with skinwalkers and Kalona; never could be too careful. The approacher caused Zillah's brow to raise at the sight of his fins. Oh a kelpie? Zillah relaxed a little, the mare hadn't seen one before. He was short too, wasn't that cute! She laughed a little inwardly. Or maybe she was just tall. She'd been the strongest and biggest born, maybe that's why she ended up rather eccentric.
He must have just gotten out of the water too his coat seemed to shine from the residual water. Zillah also took note of the spines that held his webbing, that could be quite dangerous. Again though he didn't seem too threatening. he was awfully small, "Little short for a kelpie aren't you?" She couldn't resist shooting. It was too perfect.
Looks could always be deceiving though his rather floppy haired kelpie could be quite vicious but the way he carried himself made Zillah think otherwise. This might be fun yet.Gl!tch~ ((Sorry I died, after I pmed you I started getting called into work a lot did a few weeks of overtime too))

He blinked as he processed her words. It took a moment, and then- "Seriously?" Talk about uncalled for. His ears immediately pinned back. "Your teeth are a little flat for making comments like that, don't you think?" Rion snarled.
Boy, would his father have given him a look for that one. Mom likely would've outright swatted him with a wing. Not that he had much else going for him besides the pointy teeth. His slit eyes helped a tad, maybe, but the fancy braided hair and collar was just too civilized to keep the threatening look going for long.
Now what could he do? Put up and shut up by actually trying to scare her off? Or just leave with an air of offense? It's not like he could save the situation.
Not that he really wanted to, considering that first impression.

This was going to be fun. Why hadn't she done this with her own siblings long ago? Maybe if she had stayed with them instead of leaving. "My teeth may be flat but my hooves are sharp." she retorted with a teasing smile. She had little fear of the larger more vicious breeds having spent years hunting Kalona. She may not have been born a draft but she was much tougher than she looked. He was quite the feisty one trying to look threatening as he was . Didn't seem to interested in fighting, only staving off his hurt pride.
"Not very menacing either are you?" She raised her brow inspecting his hair. His bangs for one were neatly brushed and not a hair out of place even when wet "A haircut would help and add a some scruffiness to your appearance." she pondered aloud. She'd actually seen quite a few who were menacing. That Kelpie was not one of them. His braid so neat and tidy it really threw off the look he was going for.
She looked at him growing more amused now than before.
