It was becoming a familiar sight: Amarus at her booth, with the welcome banner hanging over it. Her booth was actually just a table with a purple tablecloth. On it sat three things: a plate of spookies, followed by a stack of pamphlets, followed by a bejewelled cardboard box full of trinkets.
She had taken it upon herself to greet new ghosts, as she was one of three Residence assistants, and was doing so in the best way she could think of. Non-narcotic spookies she had baked herself (this distinction was important), pamphlets that pretended to be official reading but were in fact full of hand drawings she had crudely done which were a really terrible representation of life at the dorm, and a box of things she'd found at The Collection.
"Do your legs come apart?" she asked a very blue and black ghost she'd never seen before, "And more importantly, are you new?" Amarus asked them, waving them over. She was basically doing this to whoever she saw that even looked new.

Carlos was just wandering his new surroundings. He last encounter turned out ok. He got to have spookies and other treats.
As he floated down the hall, trying to get his bearings, Carlos paused, smelling a new things. His ears twitched and he looked at the ghoul who had addressed him.
She was asking him odd questions and he looked down at his legs. Were they together to begin with? He wiggled his toes. No they still looked good. he looked up at her and gave her a small nod moving forward to the table and ducking down low behind it so all she could see was his ears. he slowly drifted up and stared at the spookies. Were these for him? Could he have one? He reached out with one of his illusion arms and slowly took one, sliding it across the table before shoving it into his mouth.

Yes, this is fine. XD May I have a link to her journal and arts please? it is important.
She was, in fact, camping out in the ghost dorm in order to greet new students just like this one. His nod gave her very little to work with, and she was baffled by his seeming unwillingness to, well, make sound. "What is the matter? Cat got your tongue?" she asked, sticking the tip of her pink tongue out.
"Now that you have a spookie, you should take this pamphlet. It explains some things... about the ghost dorms," she said. It didn't, really. It just said where to find the three different assistants, and some other "fun facts" that appeared to have been volunteered at random from other students.
"And thirdly, for your new room, you should take a trinket to make your room more homey," she said. She was one to talk. Amarus had no such clutter in her own room. She had Promise, Revelations, Dream and Songbird but Dream was often in the aviary. "Yes, definitely take a trinket," she urged, tipping the carboard box forward.

Here is her journal: art is in this post. Her unofficial stuff is further down.
SO. If Carlos does pick something out of the box, you have two choices! You can either make that trinket any trinket you would like, that she might reasonably have found ( The Collection is often a place that other ghosts like, because objects might feel familiar to them, and that's where she got it all ), or you can roll 1d10 and check for what you got in the spoilers o uo if you roll 1d10, please just leave your minis sn in case it is minis related!
1. It's a piece of coal. This is not a trinket. Ripoff. Also it's very heavy and dirty but if you don't take it, it will surely hurt her feelings. 2. A black muscle shirt with a sentence in white block letters that makes no sense: Have kitten seen this is spiders. How is this... a decoration? 3. A lamp shaped like a ghoul's leg. 4. An orb with a pretty floral pattern. 5. String lights in the shape of stars. 6. A cameo-backed mirror. 7. A Red Lantern. 8. A snowglobe with an evil Sandy Claws depicted inside. 9. An orb with a coral colour scheme. 10. Something ... bit your fingers?! It's a creature, living in the box!
Cat got his tongue? But he was a cat. He was the cat. He giggled a bit. "What has my tongue? I do for I am the cat." he let out a small mew and investigated her things using the table to conceal much of himself.
He took a pamphlet, oh! Drawing! he looked at them, trying to make sense of them and then stuffed it into his pocket for later. It at least told him where the elders were. Elders were good, they could feed him spookies and pet him and take care of him. Yes.
She was offering him a toy? He peeked inside the box and pulled out a string of stars? He looked at it, using his illusion hands to spread it out and hummed a bit to himself tail swishing to and fro. "What flies high in the sky? What can you see at night but disappears in the light?"
He looked at the ghoul as if expecting an answer. He let the little string bounce in the air stars dangling, as he hid his grin behind the his collar.
Amarus nodded and gave him the thumbs up. She was glad he had appreciated the joke. And he didn't insult the pamphlet, which was a good second move, despite the fact that it was a very useless pamphlet. "You have already been to your room, yes? Did you, ah, get settled in?" she asked. "Have you found your classes? There are a number of challenges you can do alone, to supplement your learning," she added.
"I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed Thunder Road," she further commented.
Amarus stared at him.
"If you are anything like the cats I met, the answer to all of your riddles is either death, poison or misery, I suspect." Amarus stared at him further, as if that was her answer.

Carlos nodded at her question about his room, yes his family had mad sure he settled, and left him. His lips stuck together and his ears drooped at the thought. They had abandoned him. He melted a bit behind the table.
She was going on about classes... he didn't want to go to school. he just stared at her as she talked about classes an then perked as she almost answered his riddle. Well it didn't sound like much of an answer. He pulled the string into himself.
Carlos shook his head ears flopping back and forth as he did. Was she talking about his older brother? He was always making riddles about the gloomiest things. Death fear... pain. His brother liked that one a lot.
Carlos stared at her and just waited. Tail swishing. She had yet to answer his riddle.

oh, SN is phantompanther13 just in case. o3o wall of text.... no words.
Given the new student hadn't said anything, the corner of her purple-silver mouth tilted in disappointment. Not much for conversation, apparently. Maybe it was because he was new, and overwhelmed. He did seem very young.
"I am not sure if you are saying no to me, or if you became lost in thought and decided to flop your ears around," she said, her voice completely tone-free.
He was staring, so she stared back. She could do this for a while.
But it was boring, so she didn't. She reached under the table and picked up Malachi, setting him onto her lap and petting him to assuage her boredom. "Do you not speak if you don't like the answer for a riddle? Who picks the answer? What makes you right?" she wondered, seriously contemplating the issue. She tilted her head, making her bells ring.

He didn't elaborate. She didn't seem to like him much.
He just wanted her to answer his riddle but she seemed that she didn't like his riddle.
"It's a Star." He held up the lights again...
"I speak.. but we are supposed to tell riddles." he pouted at her. Didn't she understand? he was a Cheshire cat. They told riddles. Didn't she like his riddles?
Maybe if he told a better one. He looked at her, and then thought long and hard for a moment.
"I have one you will like:"
"I am born in the mud, but I rise above. Nestled among the Lilly pads I make my bed. I dance across the pond my dress never touching the water What am I?"
He stared at the hair clip at the end of her hair. She would like this one yes he just made it up. And she should know the answer. It was related to her after all. He was asking her name after all. It was the way of the Cheshire cat.
Amarus, in all fairness, didn't like anyone very much. Carlos was no exception. At least he had pretty colours. She was more of a bird person, in all honesty, so he didn't even have her default love of plants or birds to fall back on.
Amarus nodded at his first answer. "If you tell me a riddle, could you also tell me the answer? I don't really play guessing games," she explained. If he was going to go around talking to everyone in riddles, he was probably going to have a very tough go of it.
She was just preparing him. Yeah. That was totally it.
"Some sort of stupid nymph?" she asked, "those all sound like things a nymph would do. Brainless things."
It was pretty obviously a lotus if she bothered to think on it. And she didn't. Lotus Eaters were figurative, not literal: her essence was a narcotic substance, and her aura often acted as a mild narcotic calming substance. Students could forget the time passing, forget their fears, sleep better. All of those, if they let her aura effect them.

Amarus is a huge jerk, hooray OTL Poor carlos

Carlos deflated. His tail feel and his ears fell and he put his chin on the table and just stared at the ghoul in woe.
"It's a lotus." he whispered and stared. This ghoul saw not very nice. He wasn't sure he liked her. At first he thought she was nice, because treats and helpfulness but now, he was pretty sure she was not nice. She didn't even take the wonderful opportunity he had given her to introduce herself. He even made up a riddle for her. Clearly she didn't know how to make her own. The poor ghoul.
Maybe she was just sad because she couldn't make up her own riddles.
But he wasn't going to introduce himself now. Clearly she didn't like riddles. And he was a Cheshire cat. And therefore she must not like him because Cheshire cats told riddles.
Face your demons
Mwahaha! Breaking him before he's even out of the gate. He's probably going to wander away soon.
Amarus stared at the sad look on the boil's face, and sighed. Her eyes sharpened a little, and she dragged a big chair over from nearby, settling down in her usual one and motioning for the little Cheshire to take the second. "A lotus," she repeated, dragging the charm at the end of her long bound hair into her hands, gently sliding the pad of her thumb over its pointed grooves, avoiding slicing her spectral skin.
"I am Amarus, a Lotus Eater, so I suppose it was very appropriate. The pamphlet did have my name in it, and I suppose logically I am the only one who fits its description... in any case, little boil, sit with me for just a moment and you can go."
If he did come closer, whether he sat or not, Amarus would regard him quietly for a long while and add: "You're new. You're strange. If you should encounter anyone who is not me who gives you a hard time, please be sure to alert me. If not me, if you are more comfortable with the other Residence Assistants and it occured within the Ghost dormitories, then feel free to tell them instead," she began.
"So long as you are here, little Cheshire, I will not abide by anyone bullying you," she finished. Mostly finished. "Unless you think I am a bully, at which point you are out of luck," she said, with a quirked smile.
"Just do not tell anyone I offered you this protection. Now you can go," she told him. "And I think those star lights are a good choice."

Carlos had just thought she would like them lotuses because she wore one. Clearly she did if she ate them. He wasn't well versed in all the different creatures out there, but no he was right the first time, she was nice, she just didn't like riddles. He wasn't quiet sure how to fix it for her though.
He climbed up in the chair and waited. Tail swishing to and fro. He stared back with wide eyes, not very comfortable with her looking at him at all. So he twisted the chair a bit and hid partially behind it's arm. There better, now she couldn't see all of him, and that was close enough.
He waited for her to decide her riddle... or speech as it turned out.
She called him strange. His tail twisted in happiness and he closed his eyes half way at her in appreciation. He wasn't sure why she was talking about people bullying him. Carlos was cute, he would not be bullied and if he was he would just escape or stare at them till he was let go like he always did his siblings. Carlos could not imagine being bullied.
It was very nice of her, despite not liking riddles. Clearly she liked strange. And clearly she liked being considered a bully herself. He would let her be bully then. She must want to be the top of the clowder. Carlos would let her yes.
She was finished with her speech. Carlos's ears perked up and he hopped form his seat, one of his extra hands fishing out something from his person, a little bag. He opened it and offered her one of the treats AJ had given him earlier putting it into her paw and then floated up just a bit to give her a quick lick on the cheek.
"What's black and blue with Stripes all over?" he whispered rhythmicly and then quickly added, "Carlos the Cheshire cat."
He was Carlos, and his introduction was properly done, even if hers was a little blotched. She managed though, somehow without a riddle.
He was free, an tired, Carlos had done more than enough exploring for the day. It was time for a nap. The Cheshire cat floated off to his room.

Yay Thank you for the RP. Amarus you could not resist the cute. Mwahaha.
