With recent events being what they were, it was difficult to find time to do anything that didn't require a great deal of patience and time to complete. So it was with a certain sense of relief that Gale found himself with a pocket of time that was completely unhindered by research, organizing files, completing paperwork, and generally being the gopher of the Death Division.

He sat out on the training field because it was a nice change to being cooped up in his tiny little office, his vision going blurry from all of the paperwork being slid in front of him. Outside it was a little foggy but the sun beat down on the island with warm rays of sunshine, and it was just cool enough to almost have to wear a jacket.

Gale himself was in a pair of sweatpants and a teeshirt, arms wrapped around his knees. There was a book beside him, but he'd set it down long ago, deciding against staring at a piece of paper for an extended period of time. Instead he was just idly contemplating the field, and with it, his general stance on things like life, Stormy, and whether or not they were still serving pizza for lunch in the cafeteria or if they'd run out already.

It had been one hell of a day.

It was certainly more intimidating than the first day of college, especially when all she had were still pretty vague memories of how exactly she had gotten here. All Kylee could do was to dutifully follow her instructions as she was given, and after a brief tour around the area, she was shown to her room.

It was small and quite plain. Akila noted this with some distaste, while Kylee merely thought it wasn't really so bad, because college dorm rooms had taken a little sprucing up too. Her trainee coat and scarf was there upon the bed like they said it would, and Kylee picked them both up. The heart-shaped brooch that was her weapon was pinned to the red fabric, and after donning her official uniform, she found herself wanting to get some fresh air and stretch her legs.

After all, she had been asleep for a long time. Perhaps she didn't know exactly how long, and perhaps she was just exaggerating it in the estimation in her mind, but she had been locked up in a pod for quite some time, nevertheless.

It only took a few minutes, but Kylee found herself finally taking in a nice breath of fresh air. It didn't seem as though she could see beyond the waves surrounding the island, but still. It wasn't too bad of a place.

A reddish head of hair caught her eye in the distance. He looked rather relaxed, and she surmised that he probably wasn't quite as new as she was. Probably.

"You should say hi." Akila said and Kylee very nearly jumped out of her skin.

"But isn't that sort of weird?" She hissed back... and then promptly realized that she had spoken out loud. To the voice in her head. Within hearing range of an experienced hunter. Yep.

He'd thought he was alone; but apparently he wasn't.

Lost in his own inner musings, Gale hadn't noticed those passing by, and even less the one young woman that had slowed her steps somewhere behind him. It wasn't until he heard a voice, unfamiliar and rather tense, that he moved, twisting around quickly, automatically in a pose that suggested he was ready for combat -

- at least until he saw that it wasn't an intruder but, in fact, just a young woman who looked as though she weren't quite supposed to be there. Or maybe she was just lost. Either way, Gale relaxed his stance almost immediately, straightening and tugging at the hem of his shirt.

"Hey," he said, and nodded in her direction. "You okay? You look...lost."

It would be a perfect time to test me out. Akila whispered, right as the man whipped around to face her in what seemed like a defensive stance.

Kylee merely froze. No. She thought. It's okay. After all, they had probably trained him well to not let others sneak up on him. It was a facility that housed individuals with the sole purpose of cultivating them to fight off monsters, after all. Plus, he didn't seem ready to attack her now that he saw who she was.

"Um," She said. "Sort of? I mean, I'm new. Like, woke up earlier today new. I can't be lost if I'm not exactly sure where to go next--" You're babbling. Akila groaned, and Kylee bit her lip. "I'm Kylee Chang. Sorry if I... disturbed you."

Gale gave a small nod. "It's easy to have a hard time finding your way around here," he said, sliding his hands into the pockets of his sweats. "There's a lot of buildings to keep track of, a lot of rooms, and a lot of people. Do you have a place that you're supposed to be that you haven't made it to yet, like your dorm or the cafeteria?"

He shook his head, a slight smile on his face as he said, "Don't worry, you're not disturbing me. I was just...relaxing, sort of."

He stuck out his hand. "My name's Gale, by the way. It's nice to meet you, Kylee."

"Yeah." She breathed. "I got shown around briefly by one of the lab techs, and our last stop was my dorm, so I'm fine, I think? It'll probably take a while for it to all sink in. Maybe I should draw a map or something so I won't get too lost." Kylee was joking, of course. The only map she could draw was an anatomical system, and that was thanks to biology lessons.

...Actually, maybe she could-- but it would probably be of not much use once she got familiar with the place.

"Hi Gale." She said warmly, taking his hand. "It's nice to meet you too!" And it was. The only hunter she had met so far was Ami; she hadn't seemed to be the most social of people, but maybe she just needed some warming up.

He smiled, just a little. "I can probably help you with the map if you need it; I know at least the most important spots around Deus. It shouldn't be too much trouble to figure something out that might be able to help you learn your way around."

He shook her hand and then slid his back into his pockets, rocking on his heels a little.

"What division are you in?" Gale asked. "Have you gotten your weapon yet?"

"I might. We'll see how used I get to everything here? I usually needed good directions to get to new classrooms at the beginning of the semester, but once I recognize the route, it's not that bad anymore." Though if Kylee had very vague directions, she usually just wound up pretty lost and simply wandered the corridors in an attempt to get back to somewhere she recognized.

"Life." She said, glancing backwards slightly to check on the symbol emblazoned on her coat again. "And yes!" The girl beamed and tapped the heart-shaped brooch pinned to her scarf. "She's a spear, actually, but hefting around a weapon that's taller than me would be pretty exhausting..."

"Well, if you need any help at all, just let me know," said Gale with a nod. "I've been on the island...well, a long time, but regardless, I know it can be kind of intimidating at first, so don't be afraid to ask questions.

His lips quirked upwards a little. "A spear is a good fit," he said. "My weapon's a sniper rifle, and he's a right - "

<< Wonderful person. >>

" - git," Gale finished, rolling his eyes.

She bobbed her head in response. "I can't really think of anything right now, actually. I'm sure that it'll probably come to be when I get back to my dorm or something and I'll have to write it down somewhere." Note to self: find a notebook. Or a journal. Just something that she could write things down in.

"Or I could remember it for you."

Don't we technically share the same memory space?

"Wow." Kylee breathed. A sniper rifle, huh? She wondered briefly what it looked like, but stifled a little laugh at his description of his weapon, "I've got to say it's strange having a voice in your head. That isn't yourself, I mean."

He smiled slightly.

"It takes a bit of getting used to," said Gale truthfully. He brushed a few stray locks of multicolored hair out of his eyes and leaned back slightly. "The first few days I thought I wouldn't ever get along with Jinhai. We quarreled quite often, often enough I was sure I'd picked the wrong weapon."

He shrugged one shoulder. "But then, as time went on, and as we were thrown into more and more situations that required us to work together, we began to learn to co-exist with one another. And after a while, it just became second nature. We work together now, sometimes without even having to say anything to understand each other."

Jinhai made a soft sound in his head, rather like a purr.

<< You're making me blush. >>

Gale rolled his eyes. "Sometimes he's a p***k, like right now, but..." He shook his head. "Honestly, I can't remember what it was like without him in my head anymore."

She listened to Gale's story about his weapon, a small smile blossoming on her face. It was nice to know that they now worked together like well-oiled cogs in a machine, especially after their rocky start. Akila and her hadn't quarreled much, however.

Minor disagreements, yes, but Kylee generally thought that she seemed like an older sister figure that simply wanted the best for her, and showed her affection in an overbearing way.

"I'm flattered." The voice in her head drawled.

"That's great." She said, smiling. "Well, my current goal is just to learn not to reply her out loud. One step at a time, right?"
