Paris spent rather a lot of time at the studios on the campus of Destiny City University.

But then much of her life had passed in the studio, at the barre, so the hours she spent in class or at rehearsals these days were by no means out of the norm. The studio was, after all, one of the places in which she felt most comfortable, in which she felt most like herself. In her leotard and tights, with her hair thrown up into a bun, covered in a light sheen of sweat as her muscles ached with fatigue, she felt alive. She was twenty-years-old, married, and involved in a supernatural war, but it was ballet that kept her grounded.

As her feet glided over the floor she felt rooted on Earth. As she spun and jumped she was reminded of all the things in life she had that were worth fighting for—her friends and family, of course, but herself, too. This. This was what she wanted out of life. She needed this. She needed dance like she needed air.

Wiping sweat from her brow, Paris crossed the studio to retrieve a bottle of water from the bag she'd left on the floor, chugging some down to quench her thirst. She was alone for the time being, though she didn't expect that would last long. She knew this particular studio hosted a student-led yoga class in almost half an hour, which meant she'd soon have to vacate the premises if she didn't intend to join them.

Relaxing as it might be to do so, Paris knew she wouldn't. Not this time.

She could really use a bite to eat.

Kinley Fitzgerald tucked a campus map into her purse as she made her way to the performing arts building. Once she'd figured out where that was, she had no further use for the map. That was the only reason that she was here. DCU was known to have a pretty decent program, and it was about the time that Kinley started to look at colleges. Before, she had been considering some schools back home, but after her meeting with Maia and Sheena the other day, she felt she had no choice other than to stay in Destiny City. She was needed here now!

A smile crossed her lips as she entered the performing arts studio building. Doors to various studios lined the halls. A student could be heard belting in a practice room nearby. She was good, but Kinley wasn't interested in the singers at the moment. Turning the corner, she found what she wanted. The dance wing. She slipped her shoes off before pushing the door open and striding in. Before she'd entered, she'd thought the studio was empty, so she was a little surprised when she saw the blonde girl gathering her things.

"Oh! I'm so sorry!" She blurted out, taking a step back towards the door. "I didn't realize anyone was in here." Kinley stopped, fixing the strap on her leotard. She'd worn a leo and tights under her skirt just in case she had the chance to drop in on any classes. Honestly, some of her leotards were some of the cutest things she had. "I was just touring campus, but I can leave, if you're working." Secretly, she hoped that the girl was working, and maybe would be willing to share the space with Kinley. She loved dancing with new people because they always offered something new to learn! At least, if they were any good.

Paris glanced up at the sound of another voice and smiled at the girl's concern.

“Oh, it's fine,” she said. “I was just finishing up.”

She paused to look the other girl over, making a note of her attire before taking a good look at her face. After two years spent at DCU, much of it in the performing arts building, Paris prided herself on knowing most of the other performing arts students—by face if not always by name. This girl was unfamiliar to her. A little young. Paris was certain she'd never seen her in classes, nor did she recognize her face from any of those that typically swarmed the halls.

Paris shrugged off the mild confusion and held out her hand with another friendly smile. “I'm Paris,” she introduced herself. “You're welcome to use the studio if you want. There's a yoga class in here in about half an hour, though, so it won't be open for long. You're touring campus? Are you... new here?”

It being the tail end of the spring semester, Paris didn't expect the girl to be new new. People tended to transfer in toward the beginning of the semester rather than the end of it. Still, she could be an incoming transfer? Maybe just deciding on her major. Or an incoming freshman? She did have sort of a fresh and innocent look about her.

Not a problem at all! I'm always kind of slow. emo

Kinley's face fell a little bit when Paris said there as a yoga class in the room next. She liked yoga as much as the next girl, but that's not what she was interested in at the moment. Maybe there would be a class that she could take later. The fact that the other girl had looked her over pretty well did not escape Kin's notice. She couldn't help but wonder why Paris seemed to be analyzing her. Oh well! Then she realized, when she asked if she was new here, why she'd been looking at her.

"Oh! Yeah, I'm new here, to Destiny City, but not to DCU...yet. I'm a junior right now." A small chuckle escaped her lips as she realized that what she said probably sounded a little overeager. Honestly, not a lot of the juniors she'd known back home were touring colleges. Most waited until senior year. "I'm Kinley. I go to Crystal Academy right now. I just wanted to check out DCUs dance program. See if it was something I'd be interested in, you know?"

She shook Paris's extended hand, still smiling. Maybe, even if she couldn't take a class right now, Paris would know enough about the program. She looked like she was probably a part of it. Who else would be alone in a dance studio in the campus studios besides dance majors?

No worries at all. It's the end of the semester for me, so it's getting a little crazy. >.<

“Oh,” Paris said, though her friendly smile never left her face. So she'd been right about the girl being a little younger then. “A little early to be touring college campuses, isn't it? Although it is getting toward the end of the school year, so if you were thinking about applying early the end of your junior year's probably the best time to look into the programs around here.”

Not that Paris had much experience in touring and applying to colleges. Initially she hadn't even intended to go to college. It'd been done on a whim that quickly turned into a fierce determination to prove herself—not to anyone who may attempt to judge her, but to herself.

Regardless, college in and of itself wasn't always necessary for a dancer. Most started their careers young, many straight out of high school. She was taking a bit of a non-traditional path.

“DCU's alright,” she said. “It's got about as good of a dance program as you'd expect out of a university. The dance department's been trying to bring more attention to itself, though. Stir up more interest. They've brought in some good teachers, and they're getting a little more selective about the students they admit into the program. They're trying to expand, offer their students more opportunities, things like that. They've got a senior capstone program that offers apprenticeship's with the Destiny City Ballet. That's where I'll be finishing out my senior year come next year.”

Kinley bit her lip as Paris mentioned that it might be too early to be looking at colleges. She really didn't want to appear overeager, but she felt better when she mentioned the early application idea. That was it. She'd go with that if anyone else asked her! But again, she fell as the blonde girl mentioned that DCU's program was just alright. That definitely wasn't what she wanted to hear. She'd really hoped that it was a good program. She didn't really know where to start as far as furthering her dance career here. She'd had plans for if she'd returned to Ireland, but the whole Senshi thing seemed like it was going to keep her in Destiny City for a while.

"Oh, that's cool. Ballet's alright, but it's not my favorite. I like lyrical and contemporary, myself. But everything's rooted in ballet, so I bet it's a great experience."

She glanced at the clock on the wall and realized that they were getting close to the yoga class time. Really, she wasn't interested in taking a yoga class, but maybe finding out more about what Paris knew about the local dance scene.

"You said the yoga class starts soon? We should probably get out of here. I know sometimes yoga junkies like to come in early to meditate." Kin offered up, shifting her bag on her shoulder. A strawberry blonde curl sprung loose from her ponytail, falling into her face. The younger girl quickly tucked it back into the elastic band, fidgeting a little, hoping that Paris would offer to continue talking to her.

Paris sat upon the floor to shove her water bottle back into her bag, then set about removing her toe shoes and stowing them away as well. She replaced them with a pair of ragged looking pink converses, and pulled a cardigan from the depths of her bag to carry with her in case the spring temperatures outside the building should still prove a little too chilly. But considering the sweat she'd worked up and the heat that currently pervaded her body, a little bit of cool air might do her some good.

She stood again and slung her bag over her shoulder, smiling at Kinley as she said, “Did you want to go grab something to eat? I'm starving. I could use a snack before heading out of here. There's a nice cafe over in the Student Union, and if you wanted I could show you around a bit.”

She knew she wasn't the best spokesperson and not anyone DCU wanted giving tours to potential new students, seeing as she tended to underrate things and respond with nonchalance and the occasional display of casual cynicism, but it seemed rude to shoo the girl away. Plus, even if they didn't pursue the same style of dance, there was still that level of kinship and understanding Paris only felt around other dancers.

Paris began heading for the door, glancing over her shoulder to see if Kinley would follow. “The building next door is the old auditorium. There's a newer one across campus near the visual arts building. Hell if I know why they put it all the way over there, but whatever, it's pretty nice,” she shrugged. “The rest of the buildings on this side of campus or for the social sciences. Psych, Sociology, History. Lit and Foreign Languages is over to the right of the quad, and the Student Union's directly across the quad from us. It's got cafes and coffee shops, and the bookstore is in there, plus there's a gym up on the third floor and on the bottom level they've got a huge sunroom for some quiet study time. I always thought DCU was kinda generic as far as colleges go, but it's got some nice stuff here and there, and it's a pretty good school if you want to stay in town for one reason or another.”
