The child never knew her parents seeing they both died when she was an infant and so she was cared for by a neighbor until she was old enough to live with her brother. She was raised and taught everything about Christianity by her brother and loved it as a child. Because she was taught from the bible Iris knew how to read, an uncommon thing in the time period. She was around 15 and had a suitor in line when it happened. Her brother drowned when he went fishing and was found washed up on shore. This led to a depression and she often expressed dark thoughts. People often heard her pleading for God to bring back her brother. It was long after this tragedy that he came. The Witch Hunter.
He was a cruel man who wanted to make money, that's why he went to towns and picked a target to brand a witch. With having no family and depression over her brother's recent death Iris was a perfect mark for him. The Witch Hunter claimed that she was trying to resurrect her brother with witchcraft and the only way to cure this was to burn her at the stake.
The naive villagers of course agreed with him and it was done. She was bound tightly and burnt away from town as not to have the smell affect it. Iris screamed that she would have revenge and disturbed many of the people. The teenager was forgotten though by the end of the year. Unknown to them someone had plans for the siblings.
The two were resurrected with dark magic for a sorcerer who wanted them for an army, after all with the tragic deaths they would have great power. Blood from mutants were used during the ceremony and that is what created the transformation that turned the two normal humans into mutants.
When the two awoken from the ceremony their bodies were new yet familiar, they still had their body but they had undergone an intense transformation leaving them with new bodies, and new powers. Iris awoken with nothing but a desire to avenge someone's death. She couldn't remember who's due to her lost memory but that was all she desired.
The sorcerer told she couldn't leave and demanded that she stayed with her creator. He was out of his league, the creator died from the hand of his own monster. All that was left was a pile of ashes.
Unlike his sister Luke did have his memories and begged her not to do it, he had no idea why she would want to do something such as that. Iris refused and they argued. Somehow she couldn't bring herself to hurt him as she did with the other male and flew off with the dragon wings that donned her back. Her brother with his angel like wings followed. The village had just started burning when he arrived but with his water powers he put the fires out.
Furious his sister attacked him and the two battled nearly destroying the village this way, Iris was winning the fight and had him pinned with Chaos Blade inches from his throat. She couldn't kill him though, her brother was all she had and she realized who he was. The hesitation though was her end though.
