"Good morning, brother!" her voice called, the eyePhone sitting on his desk on speaker. It was a day off for him, but he never made it so, Uru always kept himself busy with something as he was down to his work-out clothes; a tanktop and a pair of athletic shorts as he was doing a set of pushups on the hardwood floor of his room. His sister was calling more and more and he was appreciative. “Are you working out again?”

He grunted in confirmation as he pushed up for his hundredth before continuing on. He smirked when he heard her innocent giggles on the other side of the line. He couldn't help when it was with her. The times she had called before was about badgering him about his friends which he ended fibbing about just the people he was able to recall such as Whisper, Olivia, and Damien. The time before that, she was making fun of him because of his lack of interest in anyone and was encouraging him to find someone to spend time with which he only responded with exasperation. But it was truth, he hadn't found anyone he was particular close with and he had often kept to himself. “150.” he muttered under his breath.

“Brother, are you straight?”

The demon startled and shocked, falling onto his front with a soft 'umf', jerking his head in the direction to his phone with an expression he did not recall ever making. In his life. The question was pretty plain and straight forward, but the undertone and underlying questions along with it that followed that just one. He sat in his chair, panting, staring down at his phone. “B-Brenna, why are you so interested in my... life?”

“Well...” her voice was quiet, shaky. Uru got up for a towel, he could feel a flush across his face and the tips of his ears, totally different from the heat of exercising. “I had a lesson a few days ago about...”

“About what?” He growled sharply. He prayed, so deep down, that they did not teach her about that.

“Our rituals.” Uru didn't need to ask what she was talking about. He got the same discussion when he was fifteen, but she was ten! He could feel his chest vibrate. What went on at the estate was beyond him now and apparently, Brenna was getting different lessons than he was and apparently with better professors. Or that could just that he tended to scare his professors off. The memory made me grin. “Uncle was talking about it but never finished... c-could you tell me about it?”

An exasperated sigh escaped him as he leaned back into his chair, his large arm covering his eyes. He kicked himself mentally knowing that this was his sister who was asking questions and as her big brother that he should be there to answer them. He contemplated in his mind for a period of time before she called him name, questioning if he was still there. Leaning forward, elbows on knees, he looked down at his hands that had interlocked themselves.

“For the record, Brenna. If you have questions about us, as Hellhounds, as Hël'würgen, talk to me, uncle would know nothing and I doubt mother would tell you anything besides what she wants you to know. There is more to it, so... just-just talk to me.” He started, waiting for her response. She gave an affirmative 'mhm' with a bit of excited tone. Uru rolled his eyes as he continued. “We mate for life, as you probably already know, which is very common for our species. So it is the reason why we don't seriously date because we know that there is someone out there meant for us, but we date in order to prepare ourselves and because we are very social creatures.”

“But you're not! You are the least social person I know, brother.” she giggled.

Uru huffed, ignoring the comment, continuing. “Even if we do find our mate, it can still be difficult for us. We may not even realize it right away, even be taken back by it when we get feelings. What is worse is that they are not obligated to return it. It's... one way. So the best we can do, otherwise, is to do whatever we can to keep them happy.”

“But then how do we know? What if you met someone and they were your mate?” She questioned.

“From what I understand, we are suppose to get feelings, like, in that moment, it feels right to be around that person. I don't know, I never experienced it.” Uru admitted, shaking his head. He never imagined himself having this conversation with his younger sister, but he never imagined himself ever finding a mate. The idea of love and people together had became twisted and corrupted a long time ago. “Do you have any other questions?”

"Why does mother hold my hand when we are in the study? It's when she is reading and she reaches to hold my hand or pat my head. Is that something she used to do?"

The image pained him for his mother never did that. He was never close to his mother like Brenna was, nor was he ever close to his uncle like her. The only he was close to was his father and he certain did have some contact when they were together. "We're very tactile, Brenna. It's comforting for us, it lets us know that there is someone near, especially pack. I remember father cuddled me after I had fallen and broken my leg. It helps us."

"I wish I knew father..."

"I do, too."

There was a moment of silent that seemed to go for about a few minutes where Uru had contemplated going back to pushups or sit ups when Brenna spoke again.

“Have you dated anyone?” Her tone wasn't playful or innocent, it was curious and more inquisitive.

He smiled a little. “No.” he replied a little light hearted. “I haven't, but you will. When you're older.”

“I hope so...”

“Hey, listen, don't you worry about dating or mates or any of that, just focus on your studies, alright?”

“Okay.” Brenna replied. There was a moment of silence between them before she gave an exclaimed 'Oh!' grabbing her brother's attention. “Uncle said something about girls and boys an-”

“NO! WE ARE NO TALKING ABOUT THAT!”
