The tour was long over, dinner had been finished hours ago, and as the sun began to sink below the horizon outside her window, Peyton found herself in room. She was sitting on the bed, back against the wall, and Astrid was laying beside her with her head on her sister's leg. Small fingers were working endlessly through golden curls. She had separated a section, twisting it around her finger as she looked down at the younger girl.

"So what do you think so far?" She'd been shown the dorms, the labs, the training fields, the beach and some of the jungle. Anywhere and everywhere Peyton had thought might be even a little interesting. "It's a lot to take in, I know, but it's really not so big."

Turquoise nails parted the section of hair in her hand into three equal parts, and she absently looped one strand over the other in a small braid.

"There are a few people I want you to meet." She hadn't mentioned Otto yet, or that Astrid had even more family on the island. Now she was leading up to it. "My friends, America and Taym. Taym said he'll make us grilled cheese tomorrow." She grinned softly, tipping her head hack to rest it against the wall, eyes falling shut. "And you have to meet Otto."

After being alone so long in a somewhat stressed household. Relaxing was a rather pleasant affair. Even if she had been asleep for goodness knew how long. Well... not too long? She was enjoying the simple feeling of fingers running through her hair before toying with it a bit.

"I think it's pretty crazy." Likely a normal response for being told what she had been, still it wasn't as if she'd run screaming in the opposite direction? "It's quaint. But hard to imagine you're trying to save people from things."

"Oh? You've made a lot of friends here then, right?" She recalled that her sister hadn't special been the best at it, like herself, so it was good to hear she was rather happy there. She rolled over slightly to look up at her. Otto was said after, so he wasn't a friend? She got a bit of a look, but smiled. "I'd like to mee thtem all, yes."

She made a small hum of amusement, smile widening just a bit. "It is crazy, there is no arguing that." Even if she had wanted to, which she didn't, that was just how things were on the island, in their lives. Quaint wasn't a word Peyton would have used for Deus, but then she had lived through any number of things that had befallen their little slice of paradise. She'd fought titans, she'd been turned into a cat, she seen what her life could be in another time and reality. So many things, so many different events and memories. "You'll see," she mused, voice carefully neutral. Astrid didn't need to know all the grisly details, not just yet. Not just yet.

<You can't shield her forever, doll.>

I know that. Gentle fingers smoothed through pale bangs, smoothing them back from that lovely, delicate face.

<I'm not sure you do.>

At the question she looked down again, lips twitching in one corner as she gave a small dip of her head in a nod. "Mmhmm. We're here now, and we're not going anywhere. We can let people in." No more living in a bubble. No more holding everyone at arms length just t protect the heart from the pain of separation. She kept petting her sister, almost absently, comforting herself as much as she was the dainty figure using her lap as a pillow.

"He's your cousin." It was dropped almost casually, and she the barest hint of a chuckle followed it. "Otto is. He's related to us by blood." Jude was as well, but Peyton hadn't actually seen the other blonde in almost a year.

She hadn't exactly experienced the sides of this world that were far from quaint. All she knew of was their peculiar little society where all was... rather strange. Like a rural town so far away from everything else that it had it's own rules. It's own society that it followed. Which was why she felt more amused with the oddity than concerned. That it was like a weird family vacation away from all those odd jobs.

One for just the two of them. "See what?" Her gaze hadn't exactly left Peyton, but the words felt more like she meant to say that the guess was wrong. But how could it be? What could happen out here in the middle of nowhere?

The boogeyman? She was too old for such things. Even if she talked to friends. Even if she'd been told that... they did fight them. It was hard to imagine they'd come here. To well... the Bermuda Triangle, right?

Though she didn't get to worry about it too long as a more pressing matters would be discussed. "And they'll understand?" She'd had enough tries at 'making friends' to know they didn't quite get things. But from her understanding this group was an... odd sort. So maybe they were like them in their oddities. Then came the discussion of Otto being related to them as she lifted a brow. "Ah, so..." She paused, lips pursing as she looked away recalling the mess that had been trying to 'find a place' for the unwanted child.

For the little brat left behind. She wasn't sure how trilled she was to hear one of the people from that side of the family was here, but Peyton seemed to like him? "I guess." She paused, toying with a bit of the fabric on Peyton's pants before looking up slowly. "Sis..." She was a bit hesitant to ask. To bring it up, but... "I know why you came." She offered, being a bit more roundabout than usual. "But... can you guess why I came?" Did she have an inkling? An idea? Peyton had left for them. To give them a chance. She'd said that much. But... Peyton should have known. It should have dawned on her that Astrid wouldn't have left their father alone. He was already broken enough. Losing them all would have been the end of him.

Peyton had to know. They both knew that much. "About dad..." The poor hunter would regret having brought up blood relations, but... it had to be said. It was that skeleton beating at the closet door.

"How it really is," she answered, still smiling, that soft, lazy smile. And of course they would understand. Everyone on the island had experiences the same thing; seen the shadows, heard the voices, felt those eerie chills. They understood, because they were the same. It had taken Peyton a while before she had really settled into things and opened up, but she had friends now, people she cared about, and Astrid would find the same.

She blinked at the change in her sister's tone, and the smile slipped as she brought her gaze down to blink at the smaller girl with her so serious expression.

And she knew. She wasn't stupid. Astrid being here meant there was nothing left for her in the real world. She knew it, but she wasn't ready to face it, the very idea made her chest tight, and glossed lips pressed together in a thin line as she looked up and away. "How did it happen?"

Warrick stirred, spreading like a comforting weight in her mind. There, but quiet. Reassuring.

Huh. So it wasn't like it looked. That was hard to imagine with... well there not being a lot to it? Sure there was, but... it was a small island. Nothing too fancy aside from strange runes everywhere. Things she didn't quite understand yet. But, she didn't see how it could be that different?

Sadly, more pressing matters had been brought up. Ones she couldn't blame anyone but herself for bringing to the surface. The smile was gone, there was no pleasure to be had in the topic they needed to discuss. But it had to be said. She hadn't said it, but Peyton knew, they'd both realized. A few tears threatened to p***k at the corners of her eyes as Astrid thought about discussing it. It felt like yesterday that the news came really. Even if she ignored it, it still hurt. "Work. An accident. He... hadn't slept well since what happened to you. Even if he had more time to sleep. It was just an accident they said." They'd repeated it a hundred times. How it was no ones fault, he might have been a little tired, and it was just so very unfortunate. But they didn't make it hurt less.

"They wouldn't say anything else. But... is was a closed coffin funeral." They hadn't wanted anyone to see. She hadn't wanted to either. But... "It was just a very bad accident..." She shook her head a lightly before looking up. "He's with mom now though." She'd thought he was with them all before, but this way no one had to be alone at least.

She took a breath then, closing her eyes as she worked to steady herself. No. No she couldn't just break down again. She wanted to, really. Tears were an easy way out, but she'd had enough of her own. Even if she was the one who cried for them both, she had to be a big girl too sometimes. So instead she tried to force a pathetic, weak smile as she lifted an arm up as she used the other to prop herself up. "Just... just think he's happy now?" She offered, her voice shaky. Just this once she would be more prepared for the bad news. She'd had her time to mourn, right?

Of course it hadn't worked out how she had hoped it would. It had been naive to think it might, hadn't it? Naive, and quite possibly selfish. She had wanted them to be happy, but she had also wanted happiness for herself. Was that so much to ask? Was it wrong?

The elder Creedy sighed, free hand lifting to pinch to bridge of her nose as Astrid explained. And of course Peyton would blame herself for this, how could she not? Instead of relieving the strain on her family, she'd made it worst, basically burring her father, and all but insuring her younger sister ended up here. Though perhaps, at least, here was better then any number of awful alternatives.

At least here Peyton could keep an eye on her.

They could be a family again.

She was quiet for a long time after Astrid had finished, and eventually pulled a deep breath for a lengthy sigh. Her hand dropped, and she looked down at the other blonde, and she answered that barely-there smile before bending over her to lay a kiss on her brow. "Yeah."

If he was dead, then he wasn't suffering anymore.

Nudging Astrid, she moved around until she could lay beside the other girl, and using that extra strength provided by Warrick she pulled her sister up until they both rested with their heads on the pillow, and Peyton could wrap her arm around the smaller Creedy, and she could bury her fave against golden curls and breath in that painfully familiar and utterly comforting scent that was her sister. "I missed you so much."

There was a saying about life. It sucked. And then you died. It seemed that version of life liked to keep throwing more and more at the family. So regardless of their wishes and desires little to nothing worked out. All they could hope was to mitigate the damage, the suffering to a manageable extent. Eve if Peyton had meant all the best with her choice, it was unavoidable that there had been some backlash. That being their father's cracking to an extent. In a way it was good. The man hadn't lived long enough to lose them all. If a hunter had ever offered to help Astrid find what became of her sister he may have buried a second empty coffin. Perhaps it was better this way. After all... a man could only take so much.

The kiss, for now, was a nice distraction from reality as she offered a small smile before shifting at the nudge. It was a short war of space as her sister repositioned herself before they were laying next to each other. She happily sunk into the warmth of her sister's arms, closing her eyes as she let the tight knot in her chest rest for a while. It hurt, but that didn't mean she had to live in that sorrow. Something Peyton had repeated to her as a child. That mother wouldn't want to see her sad forever. Dad wouldn't either. So instead of a whimpering sob came a small sigh. Still slightly strained, but not forced. "I missed you more. Times infinity."

She was going to win that childish fight. End of discussion.

Maybe Astrid could feel her sister smile against the back of her shoulder. Peyton tightened her arm around the smaller girl, suddenly tired, exhausted even, as if everything had just come suddenly crashing down upon her. Not just this day, and finding Astrid on the island, but wonderland as well.

A yawn cut through the quiet, and Pey pressed her face into her sister's back. When she spoke, her voice was quiet, lethargic. "You win." A soft chuckle followed it, but it trickled off.

Maybe this wasn't an ideal situation, but right that moment Peyton was having a difficult time seeing it as anything but a blessing. Tomorrow she would worry, but for now she was just happy to have her sister back.
