Step 1: Capture
Win: 50-100 (-5 for Khehora, +20 from Sam's Khehorian Attack, +10 for Sam's title: Hunter, +5 for help from Levi) 20-100
Rolled: 39
Outcome: Success!
Words: 615

"You don't want to meet them?" Levi griped, trying persistently to hold Sam's attention, who was adamantly refusing to meet the Diabi's gaze by switching back and forth between which of his creatures he was caring for. Oblivion huffed and darted in front of his companion's face. "Then I can meet yours. They probably live a lot closer than mine, anyway, so it would be much more convenient to-"

Sam snorted. "That's not going to happen." He retorted tartly as he tossed a dead bouken to Azure. He didn't know why the feathered Diabi was suddenly on this tangent of meeting each others' parents. But he was suspicious of it. Soudul was too far away to fly just to meet a couple of Khehoras. But on the other hand, he didn't want Levi anywhere near his own mother, either. What would she think if Sam brought a male Diabi home? She was already a little loopy, so surely that would send her over the edge...

The Gaili was acutely aware of his companion ceasing to try and gain his attention. "But we're... We're close, aren't we? Why can't my mother meet my best friend, my cave mate, my lov- Well, you. Everyone brings their friends home. I want to too..." Sam turned to glower at him, only to see Levi in the most pitiful position; head down, wings flat, tail drooping. Was it really this big an issue for him? Sam knew it would be awkward to be around a family that wasn't his, and Soudul was dangerous too, full of scary creatures and ferocious Diabi dragons (Sam could handle that on his own, of course, but never mind that).

"Are you homesick or something?" Sam demanded curtly. How often did Levi see his parents, anyway? Surely more often than Sam did...

The Diabi shrugged. "A bit." He admitted. "I haven't been home since I met you, so... Why not? Plus, I think you'll like my mum! She's beautiful just like me! Erm, but she has a mate already, so don't..."

"I would never-!" Sam snapped in indignation. "Whatever. We can go if you want! But you'd better not leave me alone with them, or else."

Oh, Soudul was so creepy. All dark and strangely purple... Of course someone like Levi, who blended in perfectly would love it. "Why couldn't you take us straight to your parents...?" Sam grumbled in annoyance.

Levi just hummed in amusement. "Well, they live a bit farther from the rest of the clan, since... Well, no one else likes them too much. I thought maybe they'd integrate a little more if I left, but if they're still camping this far away, I guess not..." The Diabi trailed off in thought, his ruby orbs half-lidded as he was scooped back to the past. Sam only shook his head. It didn't sound like anything he wanted to be a part of. At least Levi knew both his parents, though...

A nearby rustling pulled both from their thoughts, and they looked to the bushes. A small, armored creature sprang forth, snarling and hissing. It was about the size of Sam's foot.

"Look how cute it is!" The Gaili cooed instantly. It thought it was vicious! "I'mma catch it and take it home." he informed his companion.

"But, my parents-!" Levi protested, to no avail. Sam's magic swooped out and cocooned the tiny, four-legged, armored creature in a wall of earth, completely inclosing it. Even once captured, Sam could still hear it hissing, spitting, and throwing a fit. He hadn't recognized the creature, so whatever it was must be native to Soudul, which meant... He'd probably need a native to tell him about it...

Step 2: Taming (Sam's Roll)

Rolled: 49
Outcome: Success!

While Sam tried to stay in his Khehora form when he was with his feathered companion, when it came to dealing with his animals, he found they were much more open to him if he walked like a two-legger. So as he ran over to scoop up the little orb, his body shifted to its Khehorian form. Fingers really did make things much more manageable, anyway.

Levi stared at him for a moment, eyes wide. "Sam! We were supposed to go and see my parents! We can't just bring a little untrained beast with us! Who even knows what it is?"

The Gaili ignored his companion's arguments for the moment, instead sliding his hand over the earth to scoop it away and reveal the little creature. It had regressed into low rumbling while it was covered in earth and darkness, but once it spotted Sam, it emitted a high growl and hissed. "Sh, little one, I'm not going to hurt you..." He tutted. He reached a hand in to pet it, and had to suppress a yip of pain as it locked sharp teeth around his finger. He shook it off, then turned to Levi. "I was hoping they'd be able to tell me about the little guy, so of course we're still going to see them! But..." He glanced back at the rumbling, noisy thing. "It's kinda mean... I don't want it to hurt them if it escapes..."

"Then just let it go, and let's continue on our way..." Levi grumbled.

"No way!" Sam retorted. "I can definitely get him to relax! I just need... One of these!" He declared, pulling a Crimson Jewel from his pack. He flipped it about in his palm, then set it in the little earthen bowl with the beast. It glowered at the stone, then up at Sam, but its rumblings turned softer, and it seemed more annoyed then terrified and aggressive.

"Mum!" Levi squealed, as he galloped toward a feathered fall-colored Khehora. She twitched a bit in surprise at the exclamation, but when her orbs landed on the Diabi, she was nothing if not excited.

"Oblivion!" She shouted in glee, lunging forward to press her maw against the side of his neck in delight. "My beautiful boy! What are you doing here? Oh, how have you been? You look well. Still sleek and glossy, I see."

Levi hummed in delight. "Of course! I, um, actually-!" He turned to glance back at Sam, who was standing awkwardly a few feet away, clutching the earthen bowl that held an angry blue beast peeking mischievously over the rim. The Diabi shuffled backward a few paces, giving Sam a nudge forward. "I wanted you to meet someone important to me. This is Sam. We live together! He joined me in the Cave of Dragons, and I helped take care of his son, and..."

Sam felt surprisingly embarrassed by his companion's onslaught of words. "Hello..." The Gaili greeted awkwardly, suddenly painfully aware that he didn't know how to greet a Khehora while he was in Khehorian form. A handshake wouldn't do...

"Oh, he's too cute." Derilae purred, waddling closer to Sam. The Gaili flushed in shock, until he realized she was peering at the little creature. "What a tiny borlarn. I've never seen such a small cub. Where did you find this little one?"

Sam perked instantly. "We found him in the woods on the way here. He was all alone, so... I didn't want to leave him. I'm pretty decent at raising wild animals, but I've never even seen one of these before. Do you know much about them?" He inquired.

The Alihora ruffled her feathers. "Just a bit. It's called a borlarn. Looks like a little boy. They're pretty mean predators, so you'll need to feed him something he can chase and rip." Sounded violent. "He actually looks... pretty docile now."

"Yeah, as long as he's in the bowl..." Sam uttered.

Levi was astronomically disappointed in how his mother indulged Sam and his weird fascination with capturing wild animals. He had hoped they'd get along, but... not over this. The little beast was small, but still terribly violent and territorial. The Diabi was pretty sure it recognized his distaste and hesitance and was even snappier to him as a result. But with just a few days time, the young borlarn seemed to accept both Sam and Oblivion's mother, Derilae into its family. And Levi was suddenly pleased that his mother didn't live with a bunch of other Khehora. The armored creature seemed to please her, and a clan would never allow such a ferocious beast to be kept.

While Derilae chucked bits of meat as far as she could for the brolarn to chase and capture, Levi pulled Sam away. "Look how happy it makes her." He whispered. "Just her and Da live by themselves out here, so if they had something to protect them... Especially when he's away on a hunt, like he is now... I mean it might be good for them. They don't have a bunch of other animals like you do."

Sam blinked in confusion. "You want me to let her keep him?"

Oblivion nodded solemnly.

The Gaili clucked his tongue. After a few days, he realized he liked Derilae. She was spunky and cheerful, and she was definitely Levi's mother. So if she were to get hurt because she was alone... And Sam did have all his other pets that probably wouldn't take well to living with a creature that would try and rip them to shreds. He nodded slowly. "Yeah, I think it's a good idea. It would be troublesome to fly him back to Eowyn, anyway. He wouldn't sit still for that long." The little borlarn was too aggressive for Sam's liking, anyway. Hopefully Derilae could handle it.

Trying to teach the little cub not to snap at its new mommy's paws was just horrible. Whatever instinct it had simply refused to be agreeable. Sam was even fairly certain that the beast understood what he was saying, it just refused to obey. The Gaili had to commend Derilae for her patience, though. She was careful to avoid any gnashing teeth, while administering disapproving bops on the nose if undesirable behavior continued. Of course, the borlarn only saw that as a challenge. It was insanely smaller than any of the Khehora, but that didn't stop it from leaping up and trying to bite their noses.

It wasn't entirely clear to Sam when Derilae realized that her current method wasn't having any effect. Borllarn were naturally combative creatures, after all. The only way to really be certain he would obey, was to make him understand that she was the dominant female in this family! The little turd needed to get used to living in a group! The borlarn cub dove in and attempted to n** at her forearm. But Derilae had none of that. She lifted her paw and swatted him with enough force to send him at least three feet across the ground.

While he was stunned she fanned her wings, glided over, and then crouched before him. When he started the rumblings of a growl, she opened her maw and released a powerful, resounding roar right in his face.

The cub quieted, and dipped his head to the floor.

Sam didn't usually condone such a type of punishment, but... Since all his gentler methods had failed, maybe it was just what a borlarn needed? While it wasn't the perfect little cub, yet, the Gaili had the notion that Derilae would be able to break it of any bad habits without too much effort on her part.
