IC
It seemed to be common knowledge that Jauhar was one of the best places to hone beast taming skills. And word had reached Kiyelt’s ears. Out in the humid forests of Jauhar, there were locations that were passed on by word of mouth to ambitious beast tamers of all ranks and ages, and it would be foolish to not at least try. But others had heard about these spots also, and Kiyelt wouldn’t be alone.

It seemed that after Kiyelt set a trap, not long after it would be disarmed. And to make things worse, someone seemed to be scaring all of the game away. Was it intentional? And who was this person?

Quest Tasks
||. The person disarming all of Kiyelt’s traps is an Alkidike woman with a disposition of hating anything non-Alkidike.
||. This quest should include discovering the sabotage and after continuing through the forest coming face to face with a Menzuri at the same time that this Alkidike finds it.
||. The Alkidike will not take kindly to interference or “help”.
||. The quest should end with some sort of arrangement between the two and fighting of the menzuri.

Kiyelt wandered off into the Jahaur forest. It was said to be a diverse wildlife site, a perfect place for him to try his hand at beast taming. His first step among the trees sent a tingle up his spine. A new place full of new creatures; a new beginning. There were a few species he most wanted to find, formost among these Jahaur natives were of course the fabled radaku. Dangerous fierce and cunning it was one of the ultimate tests he could undertake. However this forest was teeming with life and Radaku were not the only creatures here he had not seen, and definitely not the only dangerous ones. And so with this in mind be bagen to ply his trade and set traps in a smallish area, some in the canopy, some part way down the trunks and some among the leaf litter. He counted seven in all. The small area would allow him to check all the traps in an efficient and timely manner thus ensuring the best care he could for any critters he manages to capture. As extra insurance he wrote down the location of each trap and predicted the target species that may be caught there.

He planned to check the ground traps first on the morrow. He reasoned that the most dangerous, (in his mind), creatures would be found there. Radaku, he had learned from his beast master mother were large, dangerous, nervous and powerful enough to shred all but the most well designed and lever traps. With this in mind he used an old trap design of hers instead of coming up with his own like he had with the midway traps and the canopy traps. He was excited and for good reason. He had spent many long Zena nights dreaming about what he would catch here if simply given the chance. And here he was in Jahaur happily plotting his chance at the vast menagerie that resided in this huge forest.

He decided that checking the middle traps next would be more efficient then the canopies'. These traps, which were situated on the huge trunks were the sites where he hoped to catch one of the crystal menzuri. He would have to be extra careful of webs since he had placed the traps strategically to ensnare menzuri performing just such a task and from what he knew about them they were not silly creatures by any means.

That left the canopy traps for last maybe he could catch a bird or two for sale later on. There were some beautiful ones here. He could hear their calls serenading the forest in an attempt to carve out territories and attract mates in the endless seascape of trees. On another day he would have envied their freedom. But not today. Today he was free to pursue what he loved.

That night the iceling had a hard time falling asleep, his mind kept reaching out to the possibilities that awaited him tomorrow. Would he catch more then one beastie? What kinds would he find? What colors? What personalities?

Argh! Was it morning yet? He looked at the sky from his borrowed hammock but the stars still winked down at him in that beautiful, ethreal way that he just found annoying at the moment. Frustrated he rolled over and nearly fell out. Grumbling he finally settled into sleep, his sleepy sailscale, Iniu, crooning lullabies in his ear.

When dawn broke he got up so fast that he got his ankle stuck in the webbing and had to be helped out of the rediculous sleeping contraption by a pack of giggling shifters. They said it happened all the time and he didn't believe them one little bit.

His foul mood only moderately mollified by breakfast, Kiyelt stomped off into the bush. Soon though, his heavy steps got lighter, along with his mood as he neared the trapline. the air was still relatively chill with nights coolness and he could definitely think better now then when he was sweating bullets from the heat.

He came upon his first trap. It was empty. Pity, it was one of his ground traps. As he looked closer he saw that the mechanism was tripped. Hmm. That looked like it had been triggered and deactivated...but why? Why would someone meddle with one of his traps? They were specially designed not to hurt whatever he caught. And he wouldn't be eating what he caught, just training it. Was it simply a clever creature or someone who had never heard of beast tamers? Or were they settled here before him, he hadn't found any old traps around but that only meant that his trickster was neat. Then too, why wouldn't they just take his catch before he got here. Well there was nothing else to do except check the others and find a new place to set up. It was as simple as that.

This time he picked a much wider area in a further part of the forest to set up his traps. He made them sturdier, just in case it was the oddest fluke ever. Then he went back to the shifter village for food, drink and sleep.

The next morning despite haunting howls echoing through the night all his traps were again sprung. So be it. Time for camping. He set up only three traps then hid near one of the ones in the middle region of the trees. It was going to be a long night.

He was determined to stay awake but before long his eyes drifted shut and he slipped slowly away until the sharp twang of his ground trap woke him up. Now he was ultra alert and pushed the sleepiness away with sheer force of will. He watched with eagle eyes as a tall, lithe alkidike woman strode over to his trap. He swung down the tree to the other side of the trap and was about to ask her "What cha doing?" When they both gave a start a menzuri had just been about to step into the trap when the two hominoids surrounded it.

It hissed angrily. And Kiyelt just dodged out of the way of a sting that would have dropped him on his iceling butt. This was no time to be riled and in an argument but from the look on the alkidike's proud sneering face that was exactly what Kiyelt was going to get. "Back off." He cautioned her.

"I don't need your help Ice boy, you don't belong here, go back to your frozen north and freeze."

"I have no quarrel with you woman but these are my traps that you are tripping. Why do so?"

"These are not your creatures to trap, this is not your land, this is not shifter land you should all pack up and leave."

"I think the shifters would have something to say to that, What did we ever do to you Princess?"

"My name little boy, is not Princess, it is Loba, this is our ancient grounds and they have no right."

'These are their ancient grounds too. Or they would not be so comfortable here. Who are you to say what is and what isn't."

"My family has been here for generations and as a daughter I am entitled to these creatures. My heritage speaks to this."

"Are you so unwilling to share, its not like I would be harming them."

"No but you would sell them to foreigners for your own prophet."

'And you do you not sell?"

"Only to alkidikes."

"And once they buy are they forced to never leave here again?"

"Well no."

"Then how am I doing anything different then what you do?"

"Your not alkidike," she snarled.

"And who chose that, I could have been an alkidike it was chance that I was born in Zena."

She glared at him.

The menzuri meanwhile was not impressed with their dithering around like he wasn't even there. What was this?! He had a freaking web to build. He snuck up behind the alkidike who was so focused on Kiyelt she didn't notice. He noticed however and lunged forward to push her out of the way, almost pushing the poor woman out of the tree but he managed a handhold and dragged her back up and when he did she bit him. Actually bit him. "Hey!" He said and clapped a hand over the wound. "That thing was going to sting you and give you no end of misery and you choose to thank me by biting me?"

"I didn't see it and I don't need your help."

"Obviously you do."

"Do not! You haven't even told me your name you swine."

"Well do you want it to sting you? And my name is Kiyelt, sorry about that." Kiyelt asked as he warily walked around her, watching her all the while to again stand closer to the crytalline menzuri who blended in horribly well with its surroundings. He was lucky there were a few branches down here still or this tango would be impossible.

"Well no. But I don't want your help."

"Want is different from need Loba."

"Thanks for pointing that out."

"What I mean is we have a much better chance of battling this thing together then we do alone."

"I should just let it eat you, teach you a lesson for trespassing, trespasser!"

Kiyelt threw up his hands which started the menzuri into trying to climb again. He rushed to get in front of it and poked at it with a branch to get it to climb back down. The alkidike was unreasonable, he would rather deal with two menzuri then one of her, but helping hands were in short supply so late at night so he would deal with what he had. She had at least given him a good argument..that was something.

"Make you a deal, you get to keep this fella if we win."

She sneered at him, but he could see the gears working in her head.

"And in return," he said, " You let me trap."

She squinted at him, sizing him up. Grudgingly she bit out. "Fine."

"Alright then, do you have any rope handy?"

"Of course."

"Well good, lets see if we can get his legs and spread em so he can't walk."

"Who made you leader?"

"No one, but would you do it any differently?"

"No, I would not."

"Then why are we arguing again."

"Just get the rope."

'Yes Princess." And the look on her face was worth the bundle of rope tossed in his face.

They set about tag teaming the poor menzuri, each went for a set of legs on either the right or left. It took time and both were sweating, kiyelt had a scratch or two and nearly got stung when they went in to secure the beast more once they had control of its legs. He didn't manage to avoid it forever though. When he was loading the creature onto Loba's back for her to take it managed to bite him on the hand.

"Ow!"

"You shriek like a little girl you know that?"

"It bit me and its already burning."

'Well they are venomous you know."

"Argh," he gurgled as the world started to spin.

Loba swore and tucked away her menzuri where she could find it. As she turned she saw the iceling crumple in a most unmanly way. "Well," she said to herself as he mumbled all kinds of nonsense at her. "At least he didn't fall out of the tree. This boy needs a lot more practice before he becomes adept at the Jahaur creatures. She snickered to herself as she hauled his heavy butt over her shoulder. "Teach you for picking a fight with alkidike critters now doesn't it?"

"Not all yours." He managed through the haze of venom.

"What was that?" she asked as she purposely swung her body around as she walked and made him groan as his vision swirled and he felt a little seasick. "You pompous boy."

He just grumbled this time, unable to say nothing at all but not wanting to be swirled again.

"Now thats more like it."

He awoke the next day in his hammock. Sick as a dog but alive. The shifters he asked said the alkidike dumped his butt, anounced what was wrong with him and then turned her regal self around and headed back into the forest.

"...Princess." He muttered.
