Oliver was not sure where he was. The hallway was dark, and gloomy, moist, and smelling of mildew. He nervously walked past room after room, some doors left open a crack, some doors were not doors at all. They were iron bars. The kid stuffed his hands nervously in his pockets, hunching his shoulders and burying his face in his scarf as though warding off a chill. He knew there were some pretty creepy spots on the island… Lots of abandoned buildings and wreaked homes, creepy dark places and shadows and old places. But he never knew there was a whole dungeon here! There were doors left open to old, rusted torture chambers, and others that were carrying an overabundance of old, rusty locks. As though what was behind those doors was to be locked away forever. Oliver shot a glance over his shoulder. Just to make sure there was nothing creeping behind him… With every sullen, echoing drip of water he felt ready to jump out of his skin. chirigami Here we go, I hope it works!

Milo managed to avoid detection, not intentionally really, by a few minutes from when the more timid of the two trainees turned his head to look back at the entrance to the basement nation. The Sun was making his way back to his room, having spent a better part of the morning on a run, then a light bout of training before checking on possible duties for the day. Which he figured he'd get to after a shower and a change. No biggie.
Not like he was really all that quiet about it either. Not with his shoes against the hard pavement, whistling and the jump down from the last step. Loud sudden noises, yup, something to disrupt those dreadful basement sounds. And to add, once Milo actually spotted Oliver down where he had managed to get himself, he let out a booming, "yo!" Completely unaware if the kid spooked easily (really he was just being friendly) but he looked... like someone not from around these parts.grey dragon look, I tagged the thing!

As the loud sounds came down the stairs, Oliver slowed his pace to listen. Just in case it was a monster or something having crept out of one of the dark cells. It sounded human enough. But when the shout came ringing out from behind him, the kid still jumped near a foot in the air, and with a startled squeak he plastered himself against the heavy wooden door to his right. Hidden in the recess of the doorframe he was able to catch his breath... until he heard a scratching noise on the other side. Rats, it had to be rats. But rats didn't make scratching noises at the height of a human's head. Oliver threw himself away from the door, tripping over his feet and landing in a sprawl on the moist pavement. Only then, caught between two frightening places, did he spare a glance for the trainee behind him. chirigami You did! You tagged the thing!

Well. Okay, that was a little different and Milo just stood there as it all played out. Felt a little bad for not doing anything and honestly a little worse for laughing when the finale of Oliver's little dance of panic ended with him face down on the basement floor. Oh man, and he was glaring.
"Aa, dude! Sorry about that," didn't realize anyone would be so jumpy. Well, there was Noemi. But she lived down here even. Milo chuckled as he closed the distance between them and was soon at the newer Hunter's side. With a hand out, "need some help?"

Oliver was used to being laughed at, but as he scooted a couple inches away from the other trainee, he realized he wasn't used to apologies. He felt a strong desire to just scramble to his feet and run away despite the friendly greeting, barely holding himself still with as much willpower as he could muster. "Ah, um... I-I think I'll be okay," he stammered meekly while getting his feet back under him. His pale eyes darted left and right, but not once made eye contact with the Sun trainee.

And Milo probably would have chased after him. Maybe. Chances were pointing to yes though, for numerous reasons that he didn't feel like listing off the top of his head. He was glad to find that Oliver had stayed relatively where he was though, besides just getting to his feet. The Sun pulled back his hand and stuffed it in a pocket.
Only to pull it right back out and hold it out for a handshake, "Milo Hale, not sure I've seen you around before." Oh those eyes might be darting but Milo's weren't and he was sure the hand would be seen at least.

Oliver jumped, but it was only a mild startle in comparison to his earlier leap. He stared at the hand, glanced to one side nervously, and finally accepted the handshake. His own hand was cold to the touch and his grip was weak. "O-Oliver K-Keeley," the teen stammered, finally daring a second of eye contact. "I d-don't know where I am," he said in a quiet tone. His entire body was tense and ready to bolt at the slightest sudden motion, like a scared rabbit.

Wow, really timid. Milo had to wonder how a temperament like that managed to get on the island. But no, no he shouldn't judge. There had been many a ranger who had been unsure and skittish and had risen to greatness. The Sun was sure that Oliver could to. So, he shook that hand that finally met his gladly and a little firmly.
"Awesome." Milo nodded, pleased to finally have some eye contact. Hopefully it would help from startling the other guy when he slapped a hand on his shoulder and pulled him in close (kind of sorta to keep him from running, but mostly just for effect and in a friendly manner). "We're in the Basement ~" His tone was probably much too happy for such an environment. And sweeping his free hand in the air in a grand gesture also probably didn't help.

Oliver yelped, he hadn't expected the gesture and was nearly pulled right over. He nearly fell right into Milo. But it didn't look like the other seemed to mind, or even notice, not with such a dramatic flair to his gestures. The kid was in way over his head. " B-basement?" he asked weakly, glancing back over at the door that had scared him. It was silent for now.

How many people didn't exactly know about the basement? That was odd. Well, now Oliver was going to learn about it, Milo guessed as he continued to hold onto him.
"Oh yeah, not as bad as it seems even though it used to be a dungeon and stuff." Probably not the best of introductions to someone of Oliver's nature, "bunch of us live down here, ya." Milo's free hand jot out down the hall, pointing to a specific room with cardboard on the bars, "That'd be mine."
This might have been the best time to release the boy, which Milo kind of did. He loosened his grip some but his hand still hovered close just in case Oliver did decide to get out of Dodge. "Never been down here? Wanna tour?"

Wait... People lived down here? Oliver's surprise and horror were clear in his expression. This was a terrible, horrible place, why would anyone want to live here? Although the dorm seemed thoroughly occupied, maybe there hadn't been enough room? And were all the residents here just normal people, or was there a reason they were put down there? He had never worried about other trainees killing him in his sleep before, but it seemed more likely now that he saw the state of some of these rooms. "I- um..." How did one get out of a tour of dungeons without specifically saying they didn't want to be in the dungeons anymore? Oliver couldn't very well say no when Milo seemed so enthusiastic. His tone was far from certain when he finally replied in a tiny voice. " O-okay..."

Milo gave Oliver a small look and a hum. "Or we can totally do somethin' else if you want." He suggested. Wasn't like he was completely oblivious to how hesitant that 'okay' had been; he wasn't also completely heartless even though tours of the basement were rather fun to him.
The Sun still hoped he would stick to the original plan but somewhere else could be cool too. Was new nakama bonding time anyway he looked at it.grey dragon short tag, I am sorry ;A;

"N-no, a-a t-tour sounds good!" Oliver stammered quickly, his Canadian heritage getting the better of him. He couldn't very well say 'please just return me to the surface world unharmed'. Enthusiasm in a place like this could mean a healthy sense of optimism and a love of adventure... or it could just mean crazy and Oliver didn't want to get involved in that kind of nonsense! The young trainee reminded himself that going with the flow could be good for him. He could just go along with the tour, learn a bit about it, and maybe how to avoid it in the future. And best of all, a tour probably included how to get out.

"Awesome!" This would have gained Oliver a nice slap on the shoulder, but since his hand was already hovering close he nearly clamped it on tightly in a friendly gesture. And not to let him go. This was probably worse than his original intentions, at least for the more timid Hunter. Since he was now trapped.
And more easy to show around, at least to Milo's perspective. Because ht then spun to pair around and waved his other hand towards the entrance of the basement where the stairs were. "So, you saw the first few doors, ya? That's where most of us who first came down here room, we didn't get to explorin' 'til at least maybe the Halloween party." The Sun began to explain, awfully jovial-like, like it was nothing at all.
"We found a few rooms filled with weird mutated bugs, had to kind of take 'em out. Wasn't too bad. Found a lot of storage too." He went on, giving them a little push to go deeper into the dungeon-y place. Scorch marks on the walls could now be seen and maybe a few left over remnants of what was washed up from the flood but not cleaned up. "Got more people comin' down here, so rooms fill up. Not sure what other people got and stuff. Also the common bathroom is kinda creepy. Wanna see?"grey dragon omg a tag! Sorry, stuff happened. Brain died.

Oliver felt distinctly uncomfortable with the hand firmly holding his shoulder. Part of it was the sensation of being tethered and unable to run away, but the other half was due to his unfamiliarity with physical contact. It was strangely distracting, that prolonged touch, and he felt unnerved even though it was probably second nature to Milo. He offered a couple small nods where necessary, although when the Sun trainee started talking about mutant bugs he began to fidget nervously. Was that what he heard, scrabbling around on the other side of the door? Mutant bugs? Or something even worse, like mutated rats with long spider legs, or piles of mould with sharp claws and teeth? The kid longingly glanced back over his shoulder towards the staircase. "Ah, um... okay..." He finally squeaked. Milo seemed to have the most incredible sense of adventure, it was a trait Oliver had never been able to understand. " I-isn't it... really s-scary living here?" He finally asked in a tiny voice.
