Occult Nekozawa

Juni finished setting up her tripod and camera, checked the levels yet again, and smiled crookedly. All of the practice she'd done setting up her camera in her room while she waited for things to compile (or test (or break)) had resulted in her getting her equipment set and ready way ahead of moonrise. She was in for quite a wait at this rate.

Still, the skies were clear on the eastern horizon, in spite of some lingering fog on the grounds from the rain the day before, and it wasn't too terribly cold. She pulled her wool poncho over her uniform jacket and stuffed her hands in her pockets, and pulling out a thermos of coffee, settled down to wait for the moon. She had a book with her, but it was too dim to read, and she had her laptop, but if she opened that, she'd completely wreck her night vision.

She would just have to content herself with counting the stars.

Juni was not to only one who chose this night to admire the evening sky. Umehito Nekozawa moved silently under the slightly foggy atmosphere. His usual cloak and black wig left behind for he found no reason to hide himself from the darkness. Moonlight was just about the only light, next to candle light, that he did not fear. With Belzenef sleeping tucked away under his coat Nekozawa walked as his well adapted night vision cleared the view before him. This was one of the paths he preferred to walk after the day's Chaos had passed.

That's when he noticed A Girl and a Telescope, this scene he'd yet to encounter on his nightly walks. While the stars had already begun to show themselves The moon had yet to make her grand appearance in the sky. Moving to approach her, his footprints made a quiet squishing sound in the slightly muddy ground. "Waiting for the Fog to pass?" He asked watching the low clouds shift across the sky.

While the stars had already begun to show themselves The moon had yet to make her grand appearance in the sky. Moving to approach her, his footprints made a quiet squishing sound in the slightly muddy ground. "Waiting for the Fog to pass?" He asked watching the low clouds shift across the sky.

Juni jumped, and half rolled over from where she'd been sort of semi-reclining on the grass, rolled up in her poncho, staring up at the sky. She had not been expecting anyone else to be out at this hour of the night, and thus hadn't really been listening. For a moment, her imagination presented her with a dozen horror stories, and then she settled down. It was Ouran Academy, after all, and -- whoever that was, he was wearing an Ouran uniform.

After she got her heart-rate back down to the point that she could string words together, she said, "Ah, yes. I - I am taking photographs of, of the moon. She, she should be up, um, soon - I hope." She squinted at the figure in the starlight, and the faintly reflected light of the city and the streetlights. For a moment, the blond hair had her wondering if it was Tamaki-sama of the Host Club, but then she realized that he didn't sound anything like the exuberant prince. This, then, was someone she hadn't met yet.

She got to her feet, shedding her poncho, to bow slightly to the young man. "Ah, I am Corazon Juanita, but, um, my friends call me Juni." The starlight glinted off her prematurely grey hair, and caught the flash of white teeth in her dark face as she smiled hesitantly. "Are you, ah, up to see the Moon also?"

"Oh, did I startle you? I apologize," Umehito smiled a rare not-aimed-to-be-creepy smile and bowed slightly in return. "Indeed I am," he said answering her question. "I often walk this time of night, it the darkest and.." He paused looking up at the starry sky. "Often most peaceful."
He caught the mild look of recognition before it faded away. Oh right... He thought, Most people here only recognize my hood... Hm... He grinned in the dark. Perhaps my own Introduction will come later... In truth the "Dark Prince" Was slightly curious to see how someone would talk to him without recognizing him. Since during the day he was often alone as not many wished to approach the only Shadow in the light. Out here was different somehow...
Before she could ask for his name Nekozawa examined the telescope, "If I may, what brought you to the desire of Capturing the Beauty of our Moon in such a way?" He asked with genuine curiosity.

The telescope was set up such that Juni could look through it from the side occulus, and see what the camera she had attached to the back would see. It was aimed right where the Moon was due to come up - in a little while. There wasn't much to see inside it yet.

Juni smiled back, a bit in relief, a bit in pleasure. She liked the night too, though usually it was because she had gotten caught up in whatever project she was working on, and had simply forgotten to go to bed. Computer programmers and the middle of the night got on famously, after all. And apparently, he didn't think she was weird for sitting out in the middle of the night to take pictures of the moon.

"I...well, I am, ah, taking photography this term," she said, after a moment's thought, to line the words up straight in her head. "And, we, we are supposed to pick a subject to, to photograph that, that inspires us. I am...I became interested in the moon last term, around, right around El Dia de Los Muertos - ah, the Day of the Dead, in, in Japanese - and so when I had to, to pick a subject, it seemed like a good idea. Also, I need some photos of her for, for a project I am working on on my own, and I wanted to, to see if I could take them myself. Um. Instead of using ones from, from NASA or something like that." She waited, uncertain of whether this polite young man would give her a funny look, or just smile and humor her. (Or, if she was very lucky, would think she wasn't strange for doing this.)

Umehito moved closer to the telescope to see Juni's setup. He listened patiently to her explanation, when she finished he nodded. "Ah I see." He said with not a hint of Sarcasm. In fact he was intrigued. "It isn't often I stumble across someone else with a eye for the magnificence of the night." Not counting Reiko and the other Black Magic club members... Umehito looked up at the part of the sky where the moon would soon appear, he closed his eyes and smiled as the fog began to fade away. "While there is radiance that reflects in the Sun's daylight, the most iridescent of the sky's charms can only be seen under a shroud of darkness."

He paused and looked back at Juni, "My apologies.. my thoughts often escape me this time of night." He gave her a small smile. Umehito wasn't quite used to another person around when he went out like this. Under the sky's shield of shadows his anxiety for light faded and the 'Dark Prince' became noticeably more relaxed. However, This girl had yet to know who he was, would it be surprising? Nekozawa wondered.

"The Day of the dead?" He belatedly repeated. "Remarkable time of year to become interested in the light of the Lunar Spirit."

Juni had been silently kicking herself for babbling on at some length as to why she was out in the middle of the night, but at this entirely urbane - poetic! - response, she heaved a silent sigh of relief. "It, it's fine," she said. "You are a poet, it seems. And it's not, not exactly a usual time to be having a, a conversation."

She looked up at the sparkling sky, with its distant planets and myriad stars and (perhaps sometimes) comets and meteors, and sighed, more happily. "I love the night. I always do some of, of my most creative work at night. And the Moon, she is, she is there, even if she cannot be seen. It is, oh, comforting somehow." She linked her hands behind her back, staring upward. "I had such a strange dream about her, back, back at that time...and since, it has been, been even easier to, to create at night."

A poet? That was a first. Nekozawa chuckled quietly to himself. "Not particularly usual for most." He followed her gaze upward. It appeared that Juni became more relaxed as she spoke. As a child of the night Nekozawa had always been fascinated with everything about it. Perhaps this is why the Darker arts came so naturally to him... "A Dream you say?" He repeated with a hint of interest. "If I may, What was so strange about it?" The president of the Black Magic Club knew of the odd ties between the Lunar Spirits and Human dreams. For this girl to become so interested after having one... Umehito was slightly intrigued.

Juni blinked. He wanted to hear about her dream? She looked down from the starry heavens at the young man - rather strikingly handsome young man - standing next to her, who was asking to hear about her strange dream in the middle of the prior term and... If the night hadn't hidden her blush, her dark skin would have, but still, she felt somewhat flustered. Strange boys didn't usually show any interest in her dreams.

Her Spanish accent got rather more pronounced for a moment, as she murmured, "Ah, ah bueno, es nada importante..." before she pulled herself together again. He had asked, after all. "Ah, it was...it just...strange. It seemed to, to go on for such a, a long time. And I..." Her eyes went off toward the horizon, where the moon was just starting to rise, and the grey of her irises caught the light, turning them silver for an instant, "I made a promise, I think..."

Umehito smiled subconsciously as the moon made her appearance. He turned to look at Juni, "A promise, In a dream?" Now this he was very much intrigued by, but he wondered if he was prying to much. After all, dreams are personal memories that the mind creates while asleep. "That does sound like a strange dream indeed." He looked up, What mysteries have you shared, O mother of the night. "If you are afraid that I may tease you for your nightly visions," He said after a moment, Juni had sounded flustered. "You do not have to worry. I have also dreamed of strange oddities that have yet to be explained."

Juni found herself both reassured by the young man's words - and still slightly flustered. Her cheeks felt slightly warm, and she looked away to check on her camera - really, unnecessary, but the moonlight did seem to be a bit more, oh, potent than she'd been expecting. Who is this person? Is he a dream too? she found herself wondering, as she forced herself to get a grip, and turned back to him.

"I, I am glad you do not think I, oh, sound silly. I wish I could, could remember more of it, I think, though parts of it were scary. Others were...quite lovely." She paused, then tilted her head slightly and looked up at the tall blond. "If you, ah, would like to tell me your, your dream, I would, would be glad to hear it."

Umehito chuckled and nodded, it was only fair. He looked up trying to remember his most recent dream. "I found myself standing alone on the edge of a deep forest. Before me were two paths. A large black cat sat between them. She spoke of forthcoming encounters between light and dark, and that I would have to decide under which rule I stand." Nekozawa watched the Moon find it's natural place in the sky. "There was no time for me to answer her, for the cat asked me something else before I awoke... and that was 'But how can you choose? For what is one without the other?'"

He looked back at Juni with a small smile. "It was very brief, I often wonder if there was more that I simply cannot recall." He shrugged slightly, and glanced back up. "Ah, It appears the Moon has almost found her final place this night. Shall I leave you to your Photography?" Nekozawa asked. If she had wanted to continue alone he would have continued on his walk, however he would not mind keeping her company if she asked. It wasn't often Nekozawa found someone, outside of his club, he could have such a conversation with.

Juni blinked, thinking over what the young man had told her. Under what rule...? It took her a moment to translate the words and figure out where her confusion had arisen. After a moment, her expression puzzled, she said, "How...odd. What a, a strange question to ask. Why should you need to chose one or, or the other, when the world has both?"

Then, distracted by the moon, she sighed. She would have liked to continue the conversation, but she had spent quite a bit of time and effort to get herself set up for this photo shoot. And given the weather, she couldn't assume that she would get a second chance. "I, I do need to pay attention to, to this, but..." she smiled shyly. "But I would enjoy talking to you, ah, again, some other evening when, when I am not also doing homework?"

"It was a pleasure talking to you as well Miss Juni." He shifted his gaze from the moon and turned to face her. The silver light reflecting in her eyes. "Another evening would be just fine with me." He said with a small smile. "Good luck with the remainder of your assignment."

Umehito took a few small steps back towards the School. Then he stopped quickly. He thought silently for a moment and turned back. "I do apologize Miss Juni. I've forgotten to introduce myself, should we meet again." He grinned. "Umehito Nekozawa," He said with a slight bow. "It was an honor to speak with you on this beautiful evening. Perhaps we will meet again soon," He grinned again and began walking back towards the Academy. Under the shadow of the building he seemed to vanish under the darkness in a cloud of low fog.

(( Oh, for a tip button, to approve of that exit...! ))

"Adios, Nekozawa-san," she said pleasantly, turning her attention back to her telescope and camera, and wondering why the name was familiar - he wasn't somebody she'd met, before, she was certain. She was sure she would remember a handsome, well-spoken blond young man in Japan, after all... Perhaps he was someone one of her class-mates had mentioned?

The back of her mind chewed on the problem of his name as she started taking photos. Then, halfway through the shoot, she stopped dead. "Nekozawa," she breathed. "El presidente del Club de Magia Negro? Surely not!" Her hands continued on autopilot, snapping photos and setting exposure lengths as she'd practiced - and a good thing too, because she was thoroughly distracted. He was tall, and straight, with fair hair, and pleasant - nothing at all like the hunched, dark, sinister - possibly even crazy! - man she'd had described to her. Were there two Nekozawas at Ouran?

She would have to do some research in the school computers tonight! Because if that was the Nekozawa that had been described to her, either someone had been having a joke at her expense, or the poor man had a reputation that was wholly out of proportion to what he was like. The topics of conversation had admittedly been a bit odd, but there hadn't been anything sinister about them. Really, he was quite charming, she thought, with another faint burn in her cheeks.

But for now, Juni would finish her photo shoot, and do the best she could while distracted - if nothing else, if any of them came out really well, she could offer a print of one to the young man as a topic of conversation for another meeting.
