The city of Janhall wouldn't be complete without literature be you human or creature, student or adult, you'll never be complete without a good book. Need a place to read? Need something to read? Come on down to Page turners chronicles, where a book for everyone can be found! Disclaimer, this is a bookstore, not a library...you do have to pay to take books out of the shop.
Don't be fooled by the picture, there are brighter places to read with chairs and tables near windows. Not everything is so dark.

Kalula Willaims Owner of a quaint little bookstore...is that all?
With her keys jingling in her hand the short girl unlocked the large glass door and rushed in to place an large box down on the front desk. "Wow, looks like the books are settling in...I think I can finally open up shop." She felt a strong sense of pride coming from the work she had already put into her small business. She had been in Janhall for about two months and already she had started her first little business and was ready to open up shop! She flipped the clever little sign on the front door to open before opening the box behind the desk. She slid open one of the desk drawers and deposited some common items into it before decorating the very desk with a few things from home.
She flipped the lights on and looked around at her cute little shop, it was the essence of comfy and she hoped above all to give a calm environment to the readers attracted here. She looked down to feel her shoe falling loose and knelt down to re-fasten it before grabbing a small broom and cleaning up a bit. She wiped away a bit of dust from her forehead and smiled in the quiet of the place around her. "I've already become a dusty librarian..." She laughed at her comment and went in the back to deposit the broom to find a mirror mounted on the wall of the nearby storage closet. She could see her entire body in it and the realization of her height made her blush. 'I hope people take me seriously...' Her thoughts were painful but she had to brush them away for now and simply hope for the best when it came to it. She tied her hair up into cute tails and began scanning a few books into storage. She had got a few from home that she kept clean and scanned them in before setting them up on the shelves... This was her life now, books and ghosts...hopefully this mythical town could keep her company...

 ♘➸ Books were a weakness.
Well, they were to Navarre, at least. Ever since he had left his homeland and begun to travel, he read everything he could. It helped him to adapt, and after spending over a century only among his people, he had a lot of adapting to do. Luckily, the past decade had opened up his mind to many things. Living among humans had been one, but the simple imaginary tales he had read and silly stories were other examples of his growing knowledge. That's why, when Nav had discovered a new bookshop in town, he just had to check it out.
Navarre entered the shop quietly, his gaze sweeping from wall to wall. There were plenty of stocked shelves, causing him to smile faintly. After all, he had all the time in the world to read, and luckily, he had a job that paid fairly well. Initially, he didn't notice anyone else inside; he supposed that was because the shop had just opened that day, and advertising in Janhall was exactly an easy task. Yet, he thought the owner would at least be here...perhaps they were busy with a task? He didn't bother to shout and ask, that seemed rude to him, especially in a comfortable and cozy shop like this one. So instead he moved to the nearest shelf, reading the letters on each book until spotting one that would interest him.

Kalula Willaims Owner of a quaint little bookstore...is that all?
Kalula looked out the lounge window and saw a few people walk past her store and with a smile she kept on moving, organizing books as she came to them. She knew she wouldn't be bounding with customers on the first day and as she accepted that, thoughts of how to advertise the store flew through her mind. She turned down one of the book case aisles and noticed that six books were out of place. She bent down to rearrange them and with a swift movement she stood back up and jumped back a bit in surprise at what was in front of her. "You'll never be welcomed here..." The booming voice of a male in front of her brought her out of her thoughts and back to metaphysical reality. "Who are you?" The ghost before her ignored her and with a scowl on his face he turned away from her. "Get out of this city, your not wanted..." His voice was deep and very aggravated. He looked to be in his mid fifties and wore strange clothes that even Kalula didn't recognize. "I can help you...do you think we could talk?" Before she could even get the last words in he disappeared. She sighed and shook her head before noticing something very strange...
Kalula noticed that the same six books were disorganized again, moved into a strange order that would obviously not be approved by the Dewey decibel system. She took the six off the shelve and made it a mental note to make them unavailable to the public for now. With the books in her arms she moved back to the front desk and noticed that her first customer had made his way in! Her mind was on the ghost but the excitement of her first customer was enough to call upon her most charming smile. "Oh hello!" She called to him calmly before placing the books down on her desk. "Can I help you with anything?" She moved to his side to see the books he was looking at currently and mentally she was taking their themes and referencing them to other books in the store, just in case he wanted something similar.

♘➸ Despite his intent on the shelf in front of him, it only took a slight bit of noise to gather his attention to the back, where he was fairly certain he'd heard talking. It didn't deter him for long, since he assumed that perhaps the shop was owned by more than one person. Considering it was still the first day of the shop's existence, he figured the owner(s?) would have plenty to discuss. Thus, he returned to scanning the various novels until he was approached by someone directly. It was a girl that greeted him, and he immediately flashed a smile when she spoke. She was on the shorter side, even for humans, so it made Navarre slightly self-conscious to stand so near to her. Elves were usually tall, and he was no exception standing at above six feet. Still, he managed to push aside the worry and answer her question politely. "I'm just browsing, for now." He was about to continue his idle search when he spotted the books she held. He was unable to read the titles from where he stood, but Nav spoke again, surprising himself with his curiosity. "Still setting up?" he motioned to the stack in her arms, wondering if maybe she was being forced to do the heavy lifting around the shop.

Kalula looked to him as he spoke and nodded in assurance to his answer. "Well if you need anything just ask." She kept herself cheerful and moved back to her desk to look through the books. It was so weird, they were all compilations of different ghost stories all told by the same author. They were arranged in volumes but she only owned six of the set of seven. She contemplated just what it was the ghost was trying to tell her by changing their order the way he did. Her mind zoomed with the different possibilities before thinking about it deeply in her head. They were arranged like so, volume 3, volume 5, volume 1, volume 2, volume 6, volume 4. She was missing seven, she always wanted to get the entire set before considering selling them, maybe she could sell them in a bundle and make a few bits of extra cash.
She was wrenched from her thoughts when her customer's question echoed through her ears. "Oh...yea I guess you could say that, everything is pretty much settled but now that I'm officially open I have to make sure everything is clean and in order." She had a special warmness in everything she said to him, she wanted to give off that feeling with customers and hoped they would appreciate a nice person to talk to. She stacked the volumes and set them to the side. She was not one to analyze a new person so she didn't realize that he was not only an elf but...he was also very tall. When she noticed she felt her self consciousness set in. 'He must think I'm a ladybug in comparison!' She didn't notice his elfness and kept to her business about his height.

♘➸ Listening to her explain why she was still moving around the shop, he found his gaze wandering to the stack of books she had been holding, although now they were rearranged on her desk. He watched as she placed them in different orders, but tried not to appear nosy as she spoke again. Her voice was warm, and he appreciated how welcoming she sounded. It was surely only a matter of time before the shop was crowded with eager customers. A good owner was the first step a successful business, after all, and this girl seemed like she knew what she was doing. "I think you're doing a great job so far. This book store is exactly what the town needed." After another moment, he could have sworn he noticed a blush on her cheeks, but he remained quiet. Naturally, he assumed that it was about his height; most people found it intimidating and he's rather not mention something that he was also self conscious about. Instead, he flashed her a friendly smile before running a hand through his hair and looking back to the current shelf. It seemed to be a section of cooking, and while he wasn't the worst cook, he could certainly use a few extra tips. Carefully, he pulled down a book that was meant entirely for the creation of appetizers. Over half of them required some form of meat, so he skipped through the pages, only glancing at the recipes that appeared to be for making dips and breads. Eventually, he set the book up and pulled out another that covered only main dishes for vegetarians.

Kalula set the books away and threw the thought away for now. His words hit hard and she could feel her skin tingle with the niceness of the compliment. "Thanks, you don't know how hard I've been trying to fit in. I thought a cute store of my own would help with just that." The thought of one day having a successful store was almost too much to imagine. She came here to revel in her powers but alittle real life success wouldn't be too bad actually.
She left her counter to return to her place at his side. Being the aspiring bookstore clerk she was she couldn't stop herself from looking at what he was browsing. "Oh, vegetarian huh? That book there has a bunch of great dishes for big families, and this one has two person meals. This one down here even has pink pages between each dish to give the cook little garnish ideas to make it look nice." She pointed at each one with her finger while standing on her tip toes to reach. "Ugh...you tall people are gonna give me an ulcer....I put in an order to get stools for me but they haven't shown up yet." She laughed softly and stands back down. "I'm into sweets myself honestly..." ((OOC: I've got a purty good idea behind those books too. ;3 ))

♘➸ Looking up as she returned to his side, he couldn't help but smile. Navarre listened as she explained each section in the book he was holding. There was little need for him to check the larger dishes, but as she mentioned the meals for two, he flipped through the pages to glance at this spot. There, he noticed the pink pages that she spoke about. Although many would say that garnishing was a waste of time, he believed that presentation was worth the wait and extra few minutes. Even the most simple tasks made the meal feel more complete, as the pictures in this book portrayed. "Thank you." he told her after a moment, his eyes still reading the words and tips in the book.
When she spoke up again, commenting on his height, he looked to her, realizing that she had been forced to stand on the tips of her toes the entire time. The fact made him lower the book instinctively, so that he held it at his waist rather than chest. "Sorry." he said, his expression apologetic. Still, she didn't seem overly upset, just teasing as she continued to mention her preferred food, which didn't seem surprising to him. The fact that she like sweets brought his smile back as he said, "Who doesn't? A meal isn't complete without some kind of dessert." Finishing his sentence, he closed the book in his hands and set it back up on the shelf. Turning around to face the shelf behind him, he took a few seconds to select a book on candies and sweets. Navarre turned back to her, opening the book to the contents page as he asked, "Favorite kind of sweets?" The elf had always been better at baking thank cooking. When he first arrived in town, he had worked in a local café, making everything from cookies to cake-pops and truffles.

She smiled warmly to him as he thanked her, it was the specific kind of thank you that meant you really helped a person out...and possibly made a sell! She laughed at the silly thought and stepped back just a bit to really look up at him. "You're very welcome." She was actually pretty surprised at how nice the young guy was, usually young boys were mean and ruthless but this guy seemed real nice. He even brought the book down just so she could look over it with him. It was nice to already meet a customer who was so respectful and kind. "It's alright, it's not your fault." She smiled and leaned close to look at some of the pink pages with him as he flashed to them.
She listened to his agreement in terms of deserts and she put her small hands to her hips in fists. "Well I know a pretty amazing recipe for white chocolate infused caramel, dip some apples in it and it's like your eating heavens own clouds." She mused excitedly as her fingers began to flit against eachother. "Cookbooks are always great but it will never beat an original creation."

♘➸ Raising a brow as she mentioned her own recipe, he knew that it probably would be one of the best toppings for an apple slice. Although he'd never had a cloud from heaven, he had a feeling that she wasn't exaggerating. "It's a shame you aren't selling those creations." His tone was a mixture of wistful and teasing as he flipped through the pages of the book in his hand. There was a dozen kinds of deserts that he had never had, making him wonder how they would taste. And the best part of experimenting with new sweets from this cookbook was their lack of meat, meaning that he wouldn't need to alter anything. After another few moments of glancing at the pages, he closed the book. Retrieving the other book he had set aside, he spoke again. "But at least you are selling these." He motioned to the two books before taking a few steps toward the check-out counter. He was pleased that in only one trip here he had found two new books. And the fact that they were cookbooks added to their practicality. Since Navarre lived alone, having knowledge of a large number of dishes was a need. "Still-" he began as he set the books on the counter, "I'd love to try your creation...so long as it isn't a secret recipe."

SHe watched as the boy raised his brow and even giggled as he contemplated her hyperbole. His teasing tone in terms of her white caramel apples was a bit questioning but she was enjoying herself with him so she brushed it off. She reconvened with him at the counter and took the books onto her side. "Will you be purchasing these?" She asked while setting up the computer for purchase. "Yep, books are my thing...Cooking is easy when I only have to make sweets but when it gets to dinners I always fumble." She laughed almost bashfully before taking just a second to look back at the ghost stories stack again. Her eyes focused on them and she looked distant. The books had reorganized themselves. '351264' She couldn't wrap her mind around the combination of numbers, what could they mean?
When she was wrenched back into reality she looked back at her new friend and smiled. She blushed just softly enough to show her excitement when he remarked about one day trying her apples. "I'll have to make you some sometime, but no stealing my recipe." She looked to him and really got in the features of his face before her eyes went wide in surprise. "Oh whoa! You're an elf! Oh..." She had never seen a mythical creature before but his ears definitely didn't betray the fact that he was definitely an elf. "Oh sorry...I'm new here..." She said covering up her happy excitement.

♘➸ Standing by politely as she prepared the computer, he nodded when she mentioned her own troubles with cooking dinners. "Same here. I can bake and prepare simple appetizers, but a full dinner can be outside of my skills." He chuckled, remembering his last attempt at preparing dinner for himself and a friend. After burning the soup, his friend had been forced to take over and confine him to dishwashing duty. He broke away from the thought as he noticed her gaze drift back to the books she had held previously upon his entrance to the store. He noticed their new placement, but figured that she had done it when he was browsing; still, it seemed odd that to him that she wouldn't just simple arrange them in numerical order. It was none of his business, though, so he remained quiet until she mentioned the recipe again. "I would appreciate it." he told her, smiling as he added, "I promise I won't study them to uncover the recipe...I'll be too busy eating them." He smiled, knowing that he probably wouldn't be able to figure out the recipe unless she told him.
Her next comment caught him by surprise. Navarre hadn't even realized that she was unaware of his race; most people in town nowadays didn't comment on it. Despite himself, he could feel his cheeks redden slightly as he waved off her apology. It wasn't really necessary, he understood why she wasn't expecting an elf to walk in her shop if she was new. "Hah...yeah." Despite his embarrassment, he didn't feel like she was upset by his race. In fact, she almost seemed excited that wasn't a human. "My name's Navarre." he added automatically, thinking that perhaps now would be a time for introductions.

Kalula was a bit embarrassed by how excited she was to discover his race but was relieved to find out that he didn't care. The guy was so nice and the last thing she wanted to do was embarrass him. She was so excited though! To think that an actual magical being of another race was actually standing in front of her...it was a site to be sure. She shook her head and brought herself back into the real world. "Wow, sorry for fan girling like that I just, I've never seen anyone that wasn't a human before..." She scanned the books codes and typed them in as bought. "That will be eighteen, Navarre." Even the guys name was exotic, she wondered just how different his life was compared to hers.
"My names Kalula, Kalula Williams, tell your friends about the store ok?" She said with a clever wink before scanning the second book and handing them both to him. "And I very much hope to see you again.." She said as a newborn blush painted her ivory cheeks. It had been a real long while before she actually made a new friend and to think that her first new friend was an Elf... She would have to temper down her magical mania though, should she meet another magical being who might not appreciate her excitement. ((OOC: I didn't know the currency here so I just said Eighteen. ♘➸ Despite the fact that he didn't know what 'fan girling' was, Navarre was fairly certain that he'd gotten the gist of her statement. Maybe later, he'd look it up though; as a Council member, he felt that he should know more about human slang. "Really? You are new." The fact made him smile, since it meant that the Veil's removal was working. Albeit slowly, but, for a human girl who had never seen a magical creature before to move to Janhall was like a victory for the town's work. "Well, I won't be the last, either." he laughed, pulling a wallet from his pocket before counting out the bills requested. It was a fair price to him, making the shop even higher on his mental list of places to visit regularly."I'm glad you've set up shop here, Kalula. I'll be sure to spread word of this store." This girl was kind, he new just from this one meeting, and he hoped dearly that her store would thrive among Janhall's inhabitants. Her last comment caused his smile to widen. "You will. Probably sooner than you'd like." After all, Navarre could never have enough books in his life. Picking up the newly purchased cookbooks, he tucked them snuggly under one arm before making his way to the door. Holding it open for a moment, he gave a small wave to Kalula before exiting.
