The morning sun broke through the cracks in the tiny cliff space ravine that he and Anaon had spent the night. A smile played upon his countenance as he remembered last night; the tiny mare beside him had made him the happiest stallion in the world by reciprocating his feelings. They loved each other, and as always there seemed to be a glow about them that showed the sensations of new love.

Green eyes looked over at the sleeping brown mare. She was so peaceful, one would not know by looking at her that she would do anything for the ones that she loves and had traveled to the hottest of hells to find a flower that will help her family. His heart felt as if it would swell with the amount of love that he had for her. Coop had not felt this kind of love since the first mare… who he loved unconditionally and she ended up killing his sister and almost succeeding in killing him. A shudder went down his spine as he remembered that day. The heart break was unbearable and it took many years to get over the lost love. He still fears that she is out there looking for him, plotting to kill him because he was the one who got away.

Slowly he made his way outside of the shadows and entered into the bright hot desert sun. The flower baskets were still upon his back and everything looked as if it was in order. Now they would begin the long trek home, he would meet Anaon’s family and perhaps they would become a family themselves. The stallion smiled at the thought of little pink and brown foals running about; they would definitely be a hooffull if they got any of their mother’s mischievousness. He laughed at the thought and then looked over his shoulder, worried that he might have woken the sleeping Anaon.

It has been a while since she had slept so restfully and he did not want to disturb her. In a way he did not want this journey in the desert to end, he wished that there would be a way to prolong their stay. It was a beautiful environment and it was so different from the lush woods that he knew and loved. Again he looked at the baskets upon his back, and had to tell himself that their mission was of vital importance and could not be delayed.

His thoughts detoured and he began to think about the types of soquili who lived in this harsh environment. What were they like? Where did they get their water? Their food? What made them stay in such a barren place? So many questions and he was unsure that he would ever get any of the answers.

Anaon dreamed of him. The cream of his coat was almost a blindingly white and the browns of his legs were a paler brown than she had remembered. His mahogany mane seemed to move as if there was a wind, but there was nothing in the blank space. There was nothingness, just the two of them in the blank space of nothing. He smiled at her and then bowed his head; showing his approval that she had moved on. Perhaps there would always be a spot in her heart that belonged to Lucian, but now she had Coop and she was happy once again.

The mare woke from her dream, she could not remember the last time she had slept so well. The memories of the night before made her smile with a giddy happiness. She was in love with a soquili who had love in his name, it was quite funny and it made her giggle. Coop Amores. Oh how their friendship transformed over these past weeks. He was kind to her and listening to the stories she told about Lucian. She knew that her love for Lucian was silly, that she had only known him for a day, but she could not help the way he made her feel. Quickly she pushed the thoughts of Lucian out of her head. She was in love with Coop. She picked Coop. Lucian left her. Coop stayed with her. There was no choice.

She looked around the cave, her pink stallion was nowhere to be seen, but that did not worry her, for she saw his shadow just outside the cave opening. Ana shook her head, trying to rid the last remnants of sleep.

“Good morning.” Her smile was bright as she gazed upon him and then she looked out at the desert. It was truly spectacular, oh how she wished she could explore more of the barren landscape. She was sure she would find more bones to add to her collection.

Coop gave a slight start when Anaon came up behind him. He had been engrossed with the landscape before him. In the slight breeze sand particles seemed to dance and the heat caused flickering images in the air. He knew that some even saw bodies of water in those flickering heat images and chasing after them would cause many to die of dehydration or go mad from the heat.

“Good morning my dearest Anaon. Did you sleep well?” He smiled at his mare, both of them had shadows in their past. His was deadly and heartbreaking, while hers was just heartbreaking. Coop was glad that they were able to overcome those events and allow love back into their lives. It is sad to live without love, to be lonely in a world that holds so many wonders. Speaking of wonders, he turned his gaze away from Anaon when she too began to look at the desert before them.

“I wish we could spend more time here and explore these lands and meet the people here. They would be able to guide us to water and show us what kind of food to eat here. But I know we need to get the flowers back to your family as soon as possible.”

“I slept well, thank you! And I guess you did as well?” She gave him a once over, he had no dark circles under his startling emerald eyes, he looked refreshed and extremely happy. Anaon dug her front hooves into the dry hot sand. She shared desire and also she wanted to have Coop to herself. If she brought him back to her family now, they would not have too much time to spend alone. Her bright green eyes looked at the baskets upon his back, “We should probably see how the plants take to being no longer attached to the wall and if they begin to die soon, then we must be close to the cave to replenish our supply. I think staying in the desert will be a nice holiday and one we will need before meeting my family.”

He stopped looking out at the sights before him and turned to look at Anaon in surprise, after all this time of rushing to get here, they were now going to finally relax. He nodded his head, her words made sense, it was logical to see how the plants did inside their new houses. The pink stallion laughed, “I will enjoy this holiday and I am sure I will enjoy your family as well once we have finished our exploring of this desert. Who do you think lives here? And how will we know where to find them? And we will need to find an oasis to refill our water supply.” He could not believe that they were actually going to be staying here longer. More time with Anaon. Coop Amores knew that they loved each other, but life had a way of making his desire for love and to be loved turn into a pile of ash. He would treat each day with Anaon as a joy and never take it for granted.
