Kamiki's Teepee

Salubri wandered around the neutral territory, feeling down. Ever since his chastising by Quadrille, he had been feeling like he was walking on eggshells. When he had first joined the Flock, he had done so because he was so lonely, in so much pain. He had fallen under the spell of the amazing and beautiful Vanmoriel; but how long had it been since she had seen her? Months? Seasons? Maybe even longer.

Was he heartbroken? Or bitter? Did he really want to leave the Flock? Where would be go? What would he do? Would they be angry? Of course they would be angry...

...but did he even really want to leave? Or was he just sad and wallowing in his self pity after he had been disciplined by one of his Sisters? So lost in his thoughts, he didn't even notice another stallion had walked up to him until he was nearly muzzle-to-muzzle with him.

Tilyr was usually a very quiet stallion; he was captured into the flock many seasons ago. He wasn't very flashy, or a good dancer, or very charming; so he was generally ignored by all the Sisters. This was a good and a bad thing; while he did tend to get lonely at least he never found himself at the clawed-end of an angry female.

This day, however, as he wandered around the male-friendly neutral grounds, he caught a glimpse of Salubri; a brightly colored flutter boy who usually seemed so confident and happy. But today he looked downright sullen, and he felt the need to offer him a friendly ear.

Salubri blinked, shaking his head a bit as he realized he had been very caught up in his own mind. There was a stallion who had come up, offering a friendly smile. He was plainly colored, looking like some kind of bird. He had feathered wings, but like all winged males in the flock the flight feathers were carefully clipped to keep him from flying.

"Oh, hello," he said, racking his brain trying to remember the name of the stallion. He had surely heard it before, but it wasn't coming to him. "What's up?" he added lamely, after it was obvious he couldn't come up with a decent introduction.

Tilyr backed up a few bases, so Salubri didn't feel as crowded. "Hi there," he said. "You look down" he said, with a sympathetic frown. "And that's not like you." He paused, tiling his head a bit. His voice was soft, and warm. "Well, I mean, I don't really know you I suppose. But from what I do know of you; you usually look so happy."

He could tell the young stallion was trying to think of his name. "My name is Tilyr, by the way. And you're Sulubri, right?"

He nodded, the smile returned. "Anyway, I'm sorry. I don't mean to pry, but I know it can be lonely here sometimes. If you want someone to listen, I'd be happy to."

He settled into a nice patch of grass; somewhere in the sun that was dappled with the happy wildflowers of spring. "If not, I understand. But I just wanted to offer."

A frown tugged at his mouth because his offer sounded so tempting. He walked a few steps closer and settled down into the fresh spring grass. "Tilyr..." he said in way of a greeting. He was sort of embarrassed he didn't know this stallion's name, especially since he seemed to know his. "Is that obvious?" he asked.

Tilyr gave a warm and welcoming smile. He was admittedly lonely, and having a nice conversation with another male seemed like it would be cathartic. "No offense," he said at his question, trying to give him a supporting nudge of his shoulder. "I mean, I've seen you around and you usually seem pretty up and optimistic. To a point, you know, not like those Whistle Stallions."

Tilyr was made a bit uncomfortable with those. He knew exactly what there "job" was in the flock, and most of them were damn good at advertising. Outgoing, charming... very open and in your face sometimes. Basically the completely opposite of himself. He was quiet and reserved, even in his colors.

He used to think Salubri would make a good Whistle Stallion. He has the smile and the charm for sure, and the bright colors. That wasn't a requirement of course, but it seemed to help.

"No offense..." he said, though he felt a bit of a blush come over his ears. He also knew what the Whistle Stallions were and what they did...

What would -she- think....

Tilyr gave a nod, glad he didn't offend. "Well, and today you just seem so out of it."

He let there be a pause in the air, looking up the beautiful clear sky of spring. "Anyway, I know how lonely and weird it can get around here sometimes. So you know, maybe it would help to talk about it. No pressure, of course. You don't have to, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm here and I'm willing to listen."

He gave a bit of a self-depreciating sigh. "And I'm always around. Always. I'm literally ignored about every Sister here. I guess I just don't have that...spark they're looking for."

But in the end...really was that all that bad?

"I guess," Salubri said, lowering his head to the ground and sighed dramatically. He focused his eyes on the blades of grass in his vision, making himself go crosseyes. He blinked and shook his head with a huff. "I mean, I'm sorry you're ignored."

Salubri was being rude, and he knew it. He was only half paying attention to this stallion, and there was no need for that. He didn't know exactly what the sisters were looking for, but they did seem to prefer those stallions with some kind of je ne sais quoi.

"Or am I?" he asked, looking at him. Not all stallions were here on their own free will...and if they didn't want that kind of attention, perhaps flying under the radar was a good thing.

Tilyr rolled his shoulders, considering. "No, no need to be sorry," he said. "If I really wanted more attention from the Sisters, I suppose I could try a bit harder. But generally I just keep to myself. I guess it comes easier for some than others."

He looked up into the sky, mirroring Salubri's current fascination with the grass.

"But it does get lonely sometimes I suppose. What about you? Are you lonely, or just bored?"

Salubri let that question linger in the air for several good, long, awkward moments. "Hmmm..." he mused, with a snort. He rolled over on to his side with a huff, letting a little cloud of dust puff up around him. "Lonely I suppose," he said finally. "Though to be honest, I haven't really been trying, either."

It was true... though he was missing Vanmoriel's attentions, he hadn't exactly done a great job of trying to expand his horizons. "I guess..." he gave a sidelong glace at the robin colored stallion. There was really no reason to hide this kind of thing from another lowly male. "...I guess I'm lonely for one particular sister," he finally admitted.

Salubri had never spoken about this with anyone else. Especially not the Sisters, but not even to anther captive male like himself. He was unsure how he would take the news. Was this common? Or had he committed some kind of horrible sin by falling for one of them?

"Oh," Tilyr said with a knowing, but understanding, smile. "I see."

It wasn't unheard of... he had heard many whispering throughout the males of the flock about stallions who had fallen in varying degrees of love with the Sisters. As for himself personally, he had never done so. No, unlike many of the others he hadn't exactly come here on his own free will. He was a captive, and had yet to fall under the spell of any particular Sister.

Now, Tilyr was a full grown stallion...and it wasn't unlikely for the particularly beautiful or striking mare not to catch his eye. But those were temporary and fleeting longings that didn't stick with him by the time he had awoken the next morning.

"That's not...the wisest decision," he said, with a hint of a wry smile on his lips. He didn't want to make Salubri feel bad or anything, but what exactly did he expect?

Sure, sometimes the Sisters would have favored pets. But was that even really love? The males sure seemed to think so, sometimes. But Tilyr was never convinced it was 100% reciprocated. At least not to the same degree.
