xxxxxDear Paen,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI have realized this last week that I have put my training on hold and that I may have been acting a bit strange lately. I know you asked me what was going on the other day, but I didn't really have an answer. I just need to get away from the Celestial Plane for a while. The Plane is a place where too many bad memories reside. I never leave the confines of our gym and hardly do I ever even leave the house. I just need to take some time for myself right now -- and yes, I do realize that I get a lot of time every day. I just feel as though I'm stuck in life; and this is my true escape. I really hope you can understand that and not be too mad at me for leaving so unannounced.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxThe reason for this letter isn't just to tell you about my problems. I also want to make sure you realize how much of a father you really are to me. Paen, you've raised me ever since I was nine all by yourself. I haven't seen my father in years, and you have really become the father I didn't have. I still love my father and always will; but you have really been there for me and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for everything you've taught me up to this day.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxEnough with the feelings, as you know I'm not entirely good at expressing them. I just need you to know that I'm going on a retreat. I don't know how long I'll be gone or when I'll be back. But I'm leaving the Celestial Plane and going to the lower world for a while. I'll make due with what I can carry and what coin I've saved over the years. I never thought in a million years I would leave and not come back within a week to this place. But I have come to the conclusion that, for my own sanity, I need to go and take a time out. I could be gone for a month, maybe two, or I could be gone a year. But remember this, Paen, you are my best friend, my mentor, and my father and I will return one day. I just need to figure my life out. I love you.
-Vyren

Vyren folded the letter and stuffed it into an envelope. He wrote in a cursive font the name of the addressed -- Paen, and propped it up against a book Paen had on his nightstand.
"This is it." Vyren said, coming into his bedroom and gathering as many things as he could into a pack. He made sure he grabbed his dagger, the Firani orbs he had been given all those years earlier, as well as some clothes and other materials he generally thought would come in handy. He found his small stash of coins and made sure to wrap it around his waist. He grabbed a pillow and a couple of blankets as well. He then ushered the two Fae Dragons out of room, as he was sure he wanted to bring them along for this journey as well.
He then went to the kitchen and grabbed another knapsack full of different foods that he could eat whilst out -- even though he realized that it would not last long. This was it, however, the last time he would be within the Celestial Plane for quite some time. He took a deep breath, looking over the house once more before closing the door and walking down the street, his companions fluttering around him.
~~~~~
"Finally made it." Vyren said, breathing in the salty sea air as he stood on Serenia's docks. His eyes glistened as he looked over the ocean. It was so vast and he wasn't even sure where to begin this journey of his. Obviously he was here on Serenia, and now he knew that he should probably just stay here for a while, either in the forests or in Ashen City somewhere. He didn't really ever think that through he realized.
Into the Forests of Aurinead was where he decided his journey would begin. At least there he could potentially find some dragons and take out some of his frustrations. He didn't really want to take time to think right now -- he had his entire trip to do that. Right now, he just wanted to fight some dragons.
Less than an hour into the trip, his companions, Brand and Estelle, had flown into the nearby trees and perched upon the branches. Vyren caught up to them and sighed. "Is this how it's going to be every time?" the Firani questioned his companions, who ignored his incessant banging on the tree's trunk.
Vyren rolled his eyes and let out a sigh of disappointment as he set down his pack and began to get out one of the fruits he had previously packed, to eat. He took a few bites and leaned up against the tree, flicking his fire from his fingers for entertainment.
It was then that he saw, from the corner of his eye, a dragon. The beautiful majestic Ysali dragon was enjoying a stroll. His eyes instantly narrowed and his mouth curled up in total amusement. His first dragon of the journey. He took a few steps closer and realized a second Ysali came out from the bushes as well, but neither had noticed his presence. Oh, perfect. Two dragons for the taking.
He crept ever so slowly towards them, trying not to give away his position. He slowly pulled the dagger from it's sheath and started a fireball within his hand.
Snap.
He had stepped on a twig, and the two Ysali spun around instantly hissing at the Dovaa. "Dammit." he said, then running at the dragons, throwing his fireball as fast as he could. They both dodged the fireball and scurried further into the woods. Vyren sped up as fast as he could to catch up or at the very least not lose them. It wasn't long before the dragons turned around and began calling upon their powers of plant life to constrict the boy.
Thud.
Vyren had fallen to the ground in a most ungraceful way. Both dragons began pulling out vines to also attack him with. He quickly cut his feet loose and stood up, shooting a stream of fire from his fist to burn the vines. He quickly created another fireball and blasted it off towards the closer of the two dragons. The dragon jumped and Vyren smirked, quickly punching the air, sending off a strong fireball right towards it, bursting upon impact with the blood curdling screams of the dragon as it fell to the ground, landing in dust. Vyren looked upon his victory and smirked, realizing that he still had another foe to defeat; but as he looked around, no dragon was in sight.
"Tck. That'll teach him. Plants must bend to the will of fire; destruction will always occur." he said, gathering the spoils of his fallen foe. Then he went back to the "campsite" -- or so he considered it now that he was there, only to find that another Ysali was sniffing around his pack and trying to find the food.
"You didn't hear your brother's scream, dragon?" he called as he tossed a quick fireball towards that direction. The dragon swatted the fireball away with a vine and hissed at him also, calling more vines to whip the boy. He cut through a few using his dagger, but sent a fireball off towards the Ysali, who was hit and burned and unable to get away.
The vines dissipated and he set his dagger on fire, smirking as he neared the dragon and clenching tightly to the dagger's hilt as the fire burned across it's blade. The dragon hissed with every step closer the boy got, but was too burned to move. He leaned down and smirked at the Ysali. "Fire beats plant and Magescian beats dragon." he said cockily as he shoved the shiv into the dragon's chest, turning it once and pulling it out only to have the dragon dissipate into dust right in front of him.
"Ah, time to set up camp." he said to himself as he looked around the site, his two Fae dragon companions still sitting up in the tree.
It had only been a week since his last encounter with the Ysali. Within that time, he was able to scare off a couple others with no problem at all. He also was able to do quite a bit of thinking on his life in that week. His nightmares hadn't stopped, neither had his thoughts of Jax. He knew he needed to confront whatever demons were in his closet; after all, that was the entire reason he was out here, right?
The forests of Aurinead were quaint and the few Ysali that were brave enough to step forth, scurried away in a panic as soon as one fireball was tossed at them. It was the perfect time to sit back, relax, and think on his thoughts and feelings. He sat beneath the golden tree, looking up at the leaves and branches that covered him from the spring sunshine. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes and his thoughts began to wander.
'What if I...no, I'm definitely not. Father hates homosexuals and so do I. I was drunk. Totally wasted out of my mind. Never again will I ever take a sip of moonshine as long as I live.'
He opened his eyes and saw his two companions playing across the way. With a sigh he turned his head to look at his surroundings. Maybe he could just live out here in the forest forever and never have to see another human being as long as he lived. Obviously that thought was thrown out the window as soon as it crept in. He knew he had to return to Paen -- if nobody else. He then began to wonder how Paen took his letter; was he mad? Okay? Glad that Vye was getting out for once? Vyren's thoughts swirled around his head once again.
'What would Paen think if he found out about my night out? Well, obviously he would be pissed that I left that late at night without saying a word. Secondly, he would probably be mad if he found out I was drinking. Thirdly, he would probably be even more mad that I stayed with a guy all night -- a guy I had just met -- a GUY in general!'
He sighed heavily and stood up, brushing the backs of his pants off and began to pick up his things. "Hey guys, we're moving camp today." he said, gathering the last of his things and killing what fire was left on the burning wood.
It wasn't long before he could see the edge of Ashen Cities border. The Dovaa grabbed his stomach as it ached and growled for food. He knew that's where he wanted to go -- he needed to shop a bit for something to eat.
But as he began his trek towards the city, he felt something rather strong tug at his bag. "H-hey!" he screamed as he turned to view who -- or what in this case -- was grabbing at his bag.
Two Ysali Dragons were using their vines to try and tear his pack away from him. "Ack! Get the ******** off!" he yelled, starting a fireball up in one hand, tossing it quickly at the pair, who scattered and began to blast poison at the Dovaa.
Never truly witnessing a spray of poison before in his life, he breathed some in, instantly chocking and coughing uncontrollably. He blasted off fire from both hands towards either dragon in hopes that they would be hit. His vision became rather hazy and the screams of the dragons seemed to echo in his mind. He fired off a few random fireballs in whichever direction he could as he felt weak. He stumbled a few feet forward, watching as the dragons created more vines, his eyes began to roll into the back of his head and suddenly; thump.
~~~~~
"Uhhh..." Vyren moaned as he tried to open his eyes to view the surroundings. He wasn't sure where he was, nor was he very sure of anything at this point. His mind was still hazy and it took him forever to just open his eyes.
"Oh, good, you're finally waking up! I was praying to the gods that you'd be alright." a voice said from a distance. Vyren could hear the patter of footsteps coming towards him as he turned his head in the direction the voice was coming from. "Here, drink this." the boy said, sitting down manipulating the substance straight into the Firani's mouth so he wouldn't have to move.
Vyren coughed and shook his head in disgust. "W-what the hell..." he cried, trying to sit himself up from his supine position.
"No, you need to continue to rest; you're still getting over the fever!" he said, pushing the Firani's chest back down.
Vyren did as he was told, for once, and laid there. "What...fever?" he asked, coughing in between words.
"Ysali fever. The poison they spat at you caused you to get sick. You inhaled it. Didn't they ever teach you in school that you have to be more careful around Ysali for that very reason? I learned that when I was an Apprentice." the voice said from a distance once more.
Vyren lifted his head as he listened to the boy speak; then plopped it back down on the pillow. He heard a fire crackling in the distance. It was nighttime and he finally took the time to truly take in his surroundings. Forests of Aurinead. He could tell by the tree's leaves that were above him. Where were Brand and Estelle? He hadn't heard a peep from them whatsoever since he awoke. Vyren coughed a bit and looked over at his "savior".
When the boy came back for a second dose of that medicine, Vyren got a good look at him. It was the same boy with the majestic hair and beautiful horn. Before he could do anything, Vyren spoke up, "Who are you and what all happened?" he asked, blinking a few times trying to get his vision totally clear once again.
"I'm Lazarus Sorak. We've run into each other once before in the Celestial Plane." he began with a concerned smile; the same smile he gave Vyren as the two stood up together the last time they met. "And you inhaled the Ysali poison. Luckily for you, I was there." he began with a small chuckle, "Here." he said, manipulating the liquid once more straight into the Firani's mouth.
Vyren coughed once more. "Would you stop it already!? That s**t's disgusting!" he said, coughing and turning his head to spit what saliva he did have in his mouth out.
Lazarus just laughed and shook his head. "Just so you know, this 's**t' as you so elegantly put it, saved your life." he said with a smile. "Oh, and by the way," he began, running over to the campfire, setting down the bowl, and picking up something else only to scurry back over once again, "these are for you." he concluded, bending down and setting the two Ysali Dragon Orbs down next to him with a bright smile. "You burned them to death just before you passed out."
Vyren looked down at the Ysali Orbs and smirked. "Thanks for keeping them." he said with a smile as he turned his gaze to the sky.
The Peisio nodded before speaking, "You should get some rest; you've already been out for a couple of days. One more night shouldn't hurt. We can talk more in the morning."
Vyren nodded with a smile as the boy got up and went back to the fire. He kept his gaze locked on the boy with every step he took. It was then that Vyren realized -- and it had totally sunk in, that his life was saved by this boy. Without him he would be dead. Vyren took a deep breath -- or as deep as he could without coughing -- and went to sleep.
~~~~~
The sun shown brightly above in the sky, cascading light between the trees, illuminating the scenery as Vyren awoke. The crackling of a fire was still apparently heard from his small roll on the ground. He sat up, slowly at first, rubbing his eyes as he did. He realized he felt much better today than he had the night before. He looked over to see Lazarus hunched over the fire, cooking what smelled to be Dragon Meat. Vyren's mouth began to water as he slowly began to stand, that was, until --
"What are you doing? You're still not fully well. We are going to stay here one more-" the boy began, but was interrupted by a rather irritated Vyren.
"I'm fine. If I don't get up and do something, I'll go stir crazy." he snapped. He did feel much better, but still rather weak, as it had been a few days of no activity.
Lazarus sighed and turned back to his cooking. "Alright, that's fine. Come have a seat, I made breakfast."
Vyren straightened himself and stretched up to the sky, as he did, he noticed Brand and Estelle fluttering above. "Oh there you guys are! Had me worried." he said aloud with a growing smile on his face. The two chirped as each went to their respective shoulder. Vyren chuckled as he patted each on the head a few times.
"Yeah, they were extremely worried for you, I feel. They didn't hardly leave that branch the entire time." Lazarus said with a smile, gesturing to a branch above the bed roll as he continued to cook the breakfast.
As Vyren walked over, he smiled, looking at this boys beauty. He shook his head as thoughts crept into his mind. 'The same boy that I saw at the market that day. He saved my life. He's cute -- no...no he's not. He's really not.'
"So..." Lazarus began, turning his attention to Vyren. "Were you just dragon hunting out here...or?" he said with a smile.
Vyren thought about that question a moment. He obviously didn't want to allow this boy to know why he was truly out, after all, he didn't want anyone to know his true intentions. "Yes, dragon hunting and just taking vacation." Vyren said, finally sitting down next to the boy. "What'cha got there?" the Firani asked with a raised brow -- already knowing what it was but trying to change the subject.
"Mm, it's dragon meat. Ysali to be exact. It's the healthiest of the dragons and also, in my opinion, the greatest tasting." he said with a smile. "Would you like some?" the boy questioned, holding out a small chunk that he had specifically prepared for Vyren.
With a quick nod, Vyren snatched the meat. He was hungry. Not eating for a few days would do that to you. He began to chomp down on the meat and he kept looking at the crackling fire, watching as it twisted and dissipated into the air above becoming nothing more than ash.
"So, I'm really sorry if this is wrong, but you said the first time we met that your name was Vyren, correct?" Lazarus asked after taking a bite to eat. Vyren simply nodded, much more focused on the meal than anything else. "Okay, so Vyren, where are you heading next?" he asked, putting down his food and grabbing his bottle of water, waving his hands to manipulate it right from the source, straight into his mouth. He let out a sigh of refreshment and kept his attention focused mainly on the Firani.
Vyren pushed what food he did have in his mouth to his cheek before speaking. "Well, before that Ysali attack, I was heading into Ashen City for supplies. Don't know if you took the time to notice, but I needed some food, but those Ysali were adamant on getting my pack. Then the fight occurred." he started. Then he finished his bite quickly and spoke back up. "What about you? Where are you headed?" he asked out of courtesy more than curiosity.
"Well, I was actually heading back out into the Forests of Aurinead for some dragon's meat before heading to Ayr." Laz said taking another bite of his food.
Vyren's ears perked up, now with curiosity, "Ayr? What's over there?"
Lazarus giggled a bit under his breath and looked at the Firani. "Well, to be honest, I didn't even want to go. My mother asked me to take a trip while I'm down here to help a friend of hers who is visiting Ashen City. We actually have plans to meet tomorrow afternoon to start the trek. I figured that would be perfect timing, as you seem to be feeling better, and I won't feel so bad about leaving you." he smiled.
Vyren's attention was captured at that moment. "Well, do you need any other help with that? I haven't ever been to Ayr; and you saved my life. It's the least I can do." he said. This boy had struck a soft spot with Vye that he didn't feel all too often -- more so because he did realize the severity of the poison and without this boy, he could have very well died that day. Plus, being able to explore a new place would be fun and exciting, he thought. Even on top of that, he could help his savior and pay his debt.
"W-well, umm...you really don't hav-"
"I really would like to. I owe you at the very least my efforts." he said with an eager smile.
"Mm...alright." Lazarus said, blushing slightly. "We leave tomorrow than."
"Vyren, are you ready?" Lazarus called from the campfire as Vyren bathed himself in the waters of Lake Tyluafel.
"One minute...geez." he called, trailing off quieter at the latter end of the sentence. He quickly finished and dried himself off, getting into his cleaner attire and ready for the journey the two of them were about to take together.
"All ready." Vyren stated as he walked towards the campfire.
"Good. Let's clean up and we'll be on our way." he said, popping the cork from his bottle to allow the water within to float out of the bottle.
As he pulled the water over the fire to extinguish it, Vyren smirked and flicked his wrist, causing the fire to flow into nothing but ash in the wind. Lazarus saw and narrowed his eyes at Vyren who chuckled softly. The Peisio smiled and put all but a few drops of water back into his container, corking it once more. With those few drops, he flicked his wrist in a similar fashion to the Firani and the drops grew rapidly in size as they sped off towards Vyren's face. All within a matter of seconds, it looked as though Vyren had just had an entire glass of water thrown in his face. Lazarus laughed heartily as Vyren clenched his fists, allowing a little smoke to escape through his nostrils in agitation. Vyren wiped his face off quickly and rolled his eyes as he walked passed the giggling Peisio towards Serenia's docks. Brand following his owner and Estelle staying back fluttering around Lazarus. The Peisio, still chuckling softly to himself, gathered the last of their things and sped off to catch up to his annoyed ally.
~~~~~
"Mai, Lore!" the Peisio called as he saw his companions in the distance. He gave a short wave and smile as the two approached. "Oh, I didn't know you were going to be accompanying us, Lore." The Peisio questioned.
"Yeah, I didn't want you guys out there alone. But I see you've brought company." the Kiandri stated, static flickering off his fingers. Vyren raised a brow as the man stared him down. He was a lot older -- about Paen's age, but Vyren figured he would be able to take him down in a fight.
"Oh! Where are my manners, heh. Vyren, this is Mai and Lore, my mother's friends. Guys, this is Vyren." Lazarus said, gesturing to each individually.
Mai smirked. "Nice to meet you, Vyren." she stated with a nod, nudging her counterpart to do the same before pulling Lazarus away towards the ship they were to take. Her voice softened to but a whisper in Lazarus' ear. "Did you finally find yourself a 'friend'?" Mai questioned like a giddy, giggling school girl.
"Mai no!" Lazarus said aloud in shock, causing the woman to laugh uncontrollably even more.
Meanwhile, the Kiandri narrowed his eyes at Vyren, who did the same, and then began a bellowing laugh. "Hahah. Put 'er there." the man said, holding out his hand to be shaken.
Vyren gave a slight smirk, but quickly turned his attention to Lazarus for a split second when he squealed and then back to the man again, doing as he was told. Mid-shake however, a shock went down Vyren's spine, causing him to leap back, wagging his entire hand in pain. "Oh mother--" he caught himself as he rubbed his hand and glared at the Kiandri.
Mai ran over quickly to assess what had just occurred and then slapped Lore's stomach, who grunted appropriately and chuckled loudly. "Lore! Stop that. I'm sorry, dear. He tends to be a child sometimes." she said, glaring up at her husband in disapproval.
Lazarus came to Vyren's aid, yet again. "Here, let me take a look." he said, grabbing Vye's hand and looking over the shock burn. Popping the cork off of his bottle, he brought out a simple drop, no larger than a rain drop, and used it to coat his entire hand. Blue light seemed to glow off of the coating and as Laz rubbed Vye's burn, it stung for a split second and cooled instantly. Lazarus looked up and smiled at the Firani, who kept his eyes on what the boy was doing, only turning his attention upward when he did. "There, all done. Better?" Lazarus asked as he whipped his hand quickly in front of him, and placing the droplet back in the bottle, corking it appropriately. Vyren gave a small nod as a 'thank you' gesture, which Laz understood and smiled back in response to..
"Are you two ready?" Mai called from the end of the dock, waving her hand as Lore readied the boat for takeoff.
Lazarus put his thump up in response and gestured at Vyren to follow.
Vyren looked back at his companions, who were playing together as they generally did whenever they were bored. A simple whistle, and the two Fae began to fly to their respective shoulders as all the Dovaa went aboard the ship; and off to Ayr they went.
~~~~~
"Ahh! Land just feels great, doesn't it honey?" Mai stated as she jumped off the boat onto the grounds of Ayr.
"Oh yes, so great." Lore stated as he stretched on the sandy beach. "Now it's time to get that Ayrala Orb." he stated in his bellowing tone as he made his way up the beach a bit.
Vyren and Lazarus jumped out of the boat and followed suit, stretching and just enjoying being on the ground again.
It had been a week of constant travel across the oceanic waters and Vyren was quite tired of being on the boat. He hadn't realized the trip would take quite as long as it did. He obviously realized after these past couple weeks that spending more time in the books instead of physical training would be an extremely big help to him in so many ways. During that time, all the Dovaa grew to learn much about each other. Vyren spoke of his tales of hunting, Lazarus spoke of his work with his family, and the two adults spoke of their lives together trying to make it by as an adult. Each one contributed to the conversation, and even though Vyren didn't feel like he connected too well with the adults, he definitely felt a lot closer to Lazarus. The two seemed to get along just fine -- as Lazarus seemed to mellow him out and almost stripped him of his anger each time he would feel it. This friendship was blossoming quite beautifully over the course of their time on the boat.
As they began their trek up the beach in following Lore and Mai, Vyren heard the first Ayrala call he had ever heard in his life. "So that's what they sound like." Vyren stated quietly to himself as he followed behind Lazarus remembering that Ysali didn't sound nearly as deep or powerful.
Suddenly, the two adults could be heard calling back and forth from one another. "Ambush!" Mai called as she came running back to the sand from the treacherous rocky planes of Ayr. Lightning bolts could be seen in the distance as Lore came running back afterwards.
Each Dovaa readied themselves for the battle. Vyren drew his dagger from it's sheath and snapped his fingers, creating a floating fireball in his hand -- which was his standard "battle pose". Laz popped the cork from his bottle, placing it quickly dropped it in his pocket and drew the water from it in a quick, swift motion. Mai covered her hands in frost magic, creating an icicle from thin air whilst Lore clenched his fists, electricity spewing from them.
Lazarus did a quick count as quite a few dragons came flying from overhead. "There's at least twelve up there." he said a bit panicked.
"Twelve less here in a minute." Lore stated with a demonic smirk. "Hoorahhh!" he grunted, shooting his lightning straight up into the sky, hitting one, causing it to cry out in pain.
A few of them dove, and Vyren wasn't about to let them all come at the group at once. Before saying anything he charged off in a random direction down a small path, throwing a fireball into the air to capture a few of their attention. "Vyren!" Lazarus called, whipping the air with his water. Before he could follow after, another set of Ayrala were on their way.
"Come on, stupid dragons! Lets see what you've got!" Mai called, throwing her spear-like icicles at the dragons, hitting a couple of them.
Vyren started a flamethrower from his free hand, pushing back the three Ayrala that had followed him. They used their strong wind magic to sweep him off his feet, causing him to land belly first on the ground.
"Rahh!" Lazarus called, running up and standing over Vyren, whipping his water through the air like a knife.
Vyren quickly gathered his composure and stood up; back to back with Lazarus, the two gave each other a quick look, nod, and then began to blast forth water and fire in a flurry all around them.
Within moments, the three dragons fell to the ground, slowly dissipating into the abyss, leaving behind six gray orbs for the two to share.
"We did it! Haha!" Lazarus exclaimed with a laugh as he threw his arms around Vyren's shoulders.
Vyren froze, feeling the blood rush to his cheeks. Lazarus then let go, still laughing, looking over towards Mai and Lore's location. He then knelt down to pick up the orbs, handing three over to Vyren. "Good job, Vye!" Lazarus said, looking him in the eye.
Vyren coughed a bit and smirked, unsure of what to say or do after that event. Lazarus gestured to begin the trek back towards Lore and Mai. Down the winding path back.
Then the wind picked up...
~~~~~ Time Lapse to Cooking with a Witch Adventure.
~~~~~ Back at the safety of Ayr's beach.
"That was probably the most bizarre thing that has ever happened to me." Lazarus said as his feet landed softly on Ayr's docks.
Vyren nodded in agreement, looking down at the chocolate that was before him. "Ayr is really quite a strange place, isn't it?" he questioned, looking up at the Peisio who had a puzzled look on his face.
"Now we have to find Mai and Lore." Laz stated as he began to walk up the beach.
Just as he was, both Mai and Lore came running down through the fog. "Oh gods, there you two are! Hurry, no time to talk, get in the boat! Ayrala's are angry." she said, scrambling to get to the boat. Both Vyren and Laz jumped in and Mai began to push off the dock, only holding onto it whilst waiting for her husband.
Lore bursted through the fog, shooting lightning from his fingertips as he did.
"C'mon honey! Let's go go go!" Mai called in a rushed tone.
Behind him were quite a few angry Ayrala dragons. She hopped in and pushed off just as he leapt to the boat, landing in it perfectly.
Using his powers over water, Lazarus blasted the boat forth from it's stable position to get away from the continent as soon as he could. Now it was time for the trek back to Serenia.
Another week had passed and Vyren was able to do a lot of solo thinking on his life -- the entire reason he was taking this trip in the first place was to get away and think about his feelings.
He had come to really appreciate Lazarus. The past few weeks the two spent together was a real growing time for Vyren. He knew that without Lazarus, he would be dead. He also realized -- as the nightmares dissipated over that period of time -- that his feelings weren't necessarily going to just up and walk away.
He had prayed to all three gods, whichever would listen, to take the feelings he realized he began to have away. To throw a woman beautiful enough to sweep him off his feet his way. It wasn't changing; nothing was changing. His anger with himself had finally lifted after being with Lazarus. He was truly Vye's best friend, even though the friendship only began a few weeks prior. The two had already been through so much together, spending day and night together really helped solidify things between them. Not to mention the fact that Lazarus' kindness was exceeding anyone's he had ever known prior. He knew that he probably wouldn't have done the same, but instead just helped them to safety and had someone else deal with them.
Vyren knew and appreciated what Lazarus had done for him and he also came to the conclusion that he wouldn't be able to change himself -- after a lot of thought (two weeks on a boat really causes a lot of thinking and self-reflection to occur). But he also knew he wouldn't publicly announce it, nor would he ever try and act upon those feelings again -- at least he would try his best not to.
~~~~~
The boat finally arrived on the beach of Serenia and all of the Dovaa exited.
"Well you two, it has been quite a pleasure. Thank you both for helping us get the orbs we needed. Oh, and Lazarus, tell your mother I said thank you for the medicine recipe. Take care." Mai said as the couple walked off into Ashen City together.
"Well, Vyren, it was very nice meeting you and thank you for everything." Lazarus said with a smile as the two stood on the docks together.
"W-what? This is goodbye?" he questioned. He loved having Lazarus' company and wasn't ready for him to just leave.
"Isn't it? You're over the Ysali Poisoning and you've repaid your debt. I'm sure now that the woman on Ayr wouldn't have tried to kill us, but at the time, you were my saving grace. Haha." Lazarus said with a smile, chuckling as he did. "But I definitely enjoyed the company. Maybe we can go adventuring again one day." he said with an eagerness in his voice.
Vyren looked downcast for a moment, but perked up a second at the last portion of his sentence. "Well, how about we go out for one last quick trip. Then we can head back to the Plane." he said with a smirk.
Lazarus gave a raised brow as to what the boy was proposing. Another trip, right now? Spontaneity wasn't necessarily his strong suit, but he played along for time's sake. "And where exactly would you want to take this trip?" Lazarus questioned.
"Eowyn." the Firani stated with a smirk, his two companions on his shoulders.
"Right now?"
"Yep. Right now. We can take the ferry over, be there overnight. We will spend tomorrow there and then take the ferry to the Vortex." he said, crossing his arms and looking as proud as he could. "What do you say?" he finished by questioning the Peisio.
Lazarus let out a small chuckle and nodded, shaking his head. "I can't believe I'm going to say this...but okay, fine. Lets go to Eowyn."
With that, the two went into Ashen City, picked up some last minute supplies and were on the ferry within the hour to head Northwest to Eowyn.
~~~~~
The next day, they had gotten off the ferry, refreshed and ready for one last big adventure before heading back to the Celestial Plane together. Vyren was very glad to have been able to get Lazarus to come along for the final journey.
"You know I didn't tell you this, but this is actually my first time on Eowyn." Vyren stated with a chuckle.
"Seriously?! Wow, you need to get down to the lower world more often." Lazarus said in surprise and shock. He couldn't believe it. An Adept that hadn't at least been to every continent at least once in their life? "So tell me, where have you been?" he asked the boy with a raised brow as they began to walk along the sandy, dry beach of Eowyn.
"Serenia, Soudul, Ayr, and now Eowyn." he said with a chuckle.
"I knew you hadn't been to Ayr before our trip, but I hadn't known about your seclusion. I'm really taking you out of your Serenia and Soudul bubble, aren't I?" Lazarus jested. "I can't believe you haven't been to Aisko either. When I was young, my entire family would take trips to all the continents. It's crazy to think that you haven't even been outside of the two main ones." he said, rather surprised.
Vyren simply shrugged, pulling his dagger out and playing with it a bit. "So, besides all the dragon infested areas, what else is there to do here?" he said, actually rather enjoying the dry air. Being Firani, he naturally enjoyed the hotter, drier climate that Eowyn provided.
Lazarus gave a thoughtful look, rather unsure. "Well, there's Tukyere -- the Hybrid Capital. But that's through the desert and it would be best if we reached it coming in from Soudul's side than Serenia's" he stated.
Vyren nodded but continued to walk out into the openness of the Malro Desert. Lazarus simply followed as best as he could.
The two talked and walked for what seemed to be hours, the sun was high in the sky and not a dragon was seen -- which was fine for them, they didn't care to see any. Not having an exact map meant that they weren't truly ready for what was going to come next.
Kaiatasel -- the active Volcano showed up in Vyren's view. "Whoa. Is that-" he began.
"Kaiatesel. Yep. Ugh. That just means that we've been walking the wrong way this entire time." Lazarus stated, annoyed at the conclusion he had come to.
Vyren almost felt empowered by the heat and energy he felt from it. Being Firani also meant that Kaiatasel was a large place for him -- a fire wielder -- to play and have a ton of fun. As he continued forward, Lazarus was confused. "Didn't you want to go to Tukyere?" he questioned.
Vyren shook his head. "Let's get closer to it."
"Ooh no!" Lazarus exclaimed. "That is definitely not going to happen. There are Firani up there; they're too strong for either of us to battle." he begged, but Vyren seemed almost transfixed on it as if it were pulling him in.
Lazarus ran to his side and yanked on his arm. "We simply can't, Vye. Please, lets just go." Lazarus pleaded.
With a sigh of disappointment, Vyren agreed, but as they turned around, they noticed the multitude of Kiandri that had apparently been skulking about behind them. Shock waves instantly were sent forward, shocking both Dovaa, obviously affecting Lazarus a bit more.
"You just messed with the wrong Dovaa, dragons." Vyren said, standing back up after falling to his knees. He spun his little dagger about, taunting the dragons, who hissed and screamed.
In the air above, there were also five Firani flying about a circle, watching the scene below. Lazarus caught wind of them and instantly suspected that they were goners. "V-Vyren, l-look up." Lazarus called out in pain as he stood, holding his shocked arm. He quickly pulled the plug on his water container and pulled the water out in a swift motion, readying himself for whatever battle they were about to get themselves into.
Laz quickly glanced around, realizing they weren't that far from the beach. "This way!" he called, instantly running, water following behind him, straight towards the beach. He could work much better with more water, he thought.
Vyren did as he was told and led the group of Kiandri down to the beach as fast as he could. The Firani dragons above followed as well.
"Now they're messing with the wrong pair." Lazarus stated, putting his stream of water into the contained and starting a couple of waves with the large ocean, all whilst having a smirk on his face.
It was then that the battle begun. Vyren would take the grunt of the damage as Lazarus flung his water like huge hands, wrapping the different Kiandri up and dragging them into the sea. The Firani even dove every now and again, spewing fire from his mouth. Vyren was able to manipulate their fire and use it's power against the remaining Kiandri.
Once the Kiandri were defeated, the pair was quite tired and had only been able to defeat one Firani in the process.
"This is far too much. I can't take anymore." Lazarus said, panting.
There were still four other Firani that circled up above. "Lets go, they won't follow us in here." Vyren said, jumping into the ocean.
Lazarus nodded and did the same. Luckily for them, he was able to manipulate the water well enough around each of their heads to give them both a small amount of oxygen whilst under the water.
After a few moments, the Firani had flown back to their roost. The battle was complete.
"I think it's time to go home." Lazarus said as the two pulled themselves on shore once more.
"I think you're right." Vyren agreed.
With that, they both headed back to the Ferry, only to be seen in the Celestial Plane a day later.
