User ImageThe crimson and blonde stallion smiled as he walked towards the bistro. It was a small place, but cozy in the spring and summer months. It was situated near the park so people could listen to live music. A perfect spot for a date with a musically inclined stallion in his opinion. Poet Lariat had chosen this place for his first date with Roc and Rolls, having sent the address to the purple stallion.

Of course Larry had attempted to look presentable, wearing a lovely ruffled shirt and cravat. His hair done up in a phonytail with a red ribbon. He imagined his sister would say he was old fashioned and out of touch, especially for a date with a phony so into modern music. In his saddlebag was a customary gift required of all first dates, but more to match his intended date.

User Image Roc ambled on at a reasonable pace, wearing traditional rock opera attire. It was a black silk poet's shirt with leather pull strings done loosely at the chest and two black leather wrist (hooves would have to do) bands with over-the-top intricate Celtic knotwork of the mythological bird, the Roc.

He looked like he was ready for a LARP more than a date, but his genetics told him this was the best possible attire for courting in. Naturally, he'd brought his guitar and stashed a small amp in his black leather (just assume everything on this guy was black leather tonight and we'll all be happier) saddlebags.

He was his own motorcycle. He was the bad boy in every romance novel. He was... perhaps wearing a little too much cologne, but at least it smelled a little like incense. The smell was making him really hungry. Roc started hallucinating the smell to be more closely akin to a barbecue pit filled with smoldering mesquite and someone was bringing a rack of ribs...

"Man..." he mumbled to himself. Roc hoped this bistro had good food.

Larry turned his head as he head the hoofsteps of someone coming and a smile broke onto his face. Roc looked wonderful, a dashing hero but with a somber look so that others could see he had a troubled heart. Or at least with all the black leather it seemed so. Larry hardly found it out of place, glad he was not over dressed and seemed to match his companion. He was also happy to see Roc had brought his guitar, it would be a perfect gift after all.

Walking up, Larry gave Roc a bow then smiled at him, "I am glad you were able to find the place. It's a little out of the way but the atmosphere is always excellent. I have something for you. Customary for the first date but in a style to more appeal to you."

From his saddle bag he produced a bouquet of flowers, colored in shades of violet, black, and blue. Only these flowers were made from guitar picks. He smiled as he handed over the musical gift, "Might make playing "Does He Love me, Does He Not" more productive. Shall we?" He motioned to the hostess who sat the couple at an outside table facing the large outdoor theater across in the park. She gave them menu, took their drink orders, then pranced off. The food was a range from light salads to heavy po boy sandwichs.

Up on stage the performers were setting up their instruments and doing mike tests while the audience gathered on blankets or lawn chairs. Children laughed as they ran around playing tag on the soft grace while adults made conversation and compared bands. "I am glad you agreed to join me, Roc. I only hope you enjoy my company if nothing else."

Roc was supposed to play it cool. He was supposed to be smooth and take whatever happened with solemn grace... but his stomach kept him off kilter and when Larry gave him a bouquet of guitar picks.

"Aaaaah. Ahuh-huh-huh," Roc's face felt like it was on fire. "Wow, man, that's pretty bitchin'. You seriously went through all this trouble just for me? I'd've settled for potluck on a picnic table but this is far out."

He carefully put away his bouquet and pulled out a leather bound hoof-crafted book full of very fancy pressed paper. Each leaf of paper had various leaf patterns pressed into it made by real leaves.

"I'm not sure how good it is to write on, but the dude who sold it to me said it won't fade and holds quill ink pretty well," Roc gave the blank book to Larry. "I figured you could put your new poems all in one place."

Larry smiled as he watched Roc's reaction to his gift. He had agonized over the right gift for the musically inclined stallion. First he thought maybe a special pick, something nice. But it seemed so small and there were so many; so he decided to make a gift out of all of them. He nodded, "You are worth it Roc. You are a wonderful phony, fun to spend time with. You deserve to have something nice done for you."

He hadn't expected a gift actually, frankly he thought his sentiment was old fashioned compared to the dating scene of these times. So when Roc produced the most wonderful and thoughtful gift Larry was actually speechless. He took the book, gently looking at each page and the pressed patterns. "Roc this is beautiful. Thank you," he smiled at him, "The first poem I write will be about you."

He put the lovely book away in his saddle bag then looked over at the leather clad rocker. His brown hair always falling in front of his eyes. His mix of modern and fantasy was amazing. Looking at the menu he made his selection then looked to the stage as a guitar riff sounded off. "Seems they are about to get started."

"I'm so hungry, I could eat this menu and not complain," Roc admitted. "I skipped lunch because I knew we'd be going out."

He skimmed through the menu and was tempted to order the richest, thickest meal on it but decided that'd probably be rude and then he'd be too full to hang out later.

"We're splitting this bill, right? If I order something far out I don't want you to suffer for it," Roc chortled.

"Typically one or the other pays the bill on the first date, it is proper dating etiquette. But...my sister," he gave a soft sigh a if talking about this subject was a tiring one, "has stated I am far too old fashioned and need to...get with the times....so if you would prefer to split the bill I am fine with that."

When the waitress came back around Larry ordered a steak, medium cooked, with small roasted potatoes as a side. He also ordered a wine to match his meal, something robust and flavorful. He waited for Roc to place his order, watching the leather bound rocker make his selection. He often wondered about Roc's family. He only really knew of his father, the well rounded baker who enjoyed a great deal of food.

Roc seemed to have inherited only a slight pudge from his male parental figure but it suited him. Made his leather press against his body to outline his physique. Larry stopped himself from starting, he was partial to good leather products given his stage work.

The first band began to play, an all mare group who mostly sang a few songs about mare power and how they could do fine by themselves.

Roc fidgeted with the pullstrings of his poet's shirt while he ordered the ribs. He wasn't a bread-ivore as much as his father was and as much as he enjoyed a good hoagie, it seemed proper to order plain meat with sides of roasted vegetables.

"I guess I'd be an a** if I say some people's music is a little contrived," Roc mused. "They at least got this gig, so it must be good to someone somewhere. I always thought, like... your 'tude should just be your 'tude, even though the song itself can be about something else entirely. I like chicks who can kick a**, I mean... I think my mom is one of them."

Larry smiled as he watched the stallion order his food. Roc looked nervous, Larry was nervous but tried his best to hide it. He was an actor after all. But still Roc looked so nice in his outfit, he'd have to ask where he bought it after the date was over.

Their food was delivered in the middle of the second performance. His steak was perfectly cooked and the potatoes nicely roasted. Roc's ribs looked nice and messy, as ribs should be. He offered his friend some wine before pouring himself a glass. Sipping his wine he listened to Roc's musings over the current music being played. He smiled, only partially understanding some of it. Given his love of acting he thought over Roc's statement.

"Well I see bands as actors just as any in the theater. We both perform on stage and do so to whatever theme the night takes," he spoke as he cut into his steak. "And yes women who have a strong disposition are quite enjoyable at times. My sister is one. I have no mother, only my father. But I think C.C. makes up for it in her care and concern for the both of us."

It's ok my love! *lubs*

"I think I met my mom once," Roc said, pulling apart his food with his hooves (don't ask how this works... nanites or something). "It was kinda weird, my half sister set it up. I think Dad still has no idea it was my mom. Dad says I arrived stuck in his hair. It sounds like some kind of weird Greek myth."
