Oh, yes. This looked more like it. The candy appeared in front of him and SpringTooth blinked at it for a moment -- taking in its off-kilter face, its ragged, toothy mess of a mouth, its menacingly dark exterion, its decisive aura of evil -- and his expression went determined. This one. This one might be harder. A tougher opponent to test his chops again, even if it was -- well. Just a giant floating candy. He whipped out his card, striking a pose now in confidence, and tipped his chin back so that he could look down his nose at the creature. "I'm going to chew you up and spit you out!" This candy certainly had some bite to it -- was fast, lunging in to attack him, nevermind that it had no feet. Nevermind that it seemed primarily to hang suspended from strings up into nowhere, as much of this puppet world did. This wasn't the place to be worrying about physics or logistics: this was the place to attack without thinking, without worrying, without obsessing. This was the place to entirely be someone else, other than his usual self. To be decisive and self-confident. They exchanged attacks, quickly, and SpringTooth thought he came ahead in this round, drawing in a breath as he stepped back to ready position and braced himself against the candy's attack. Oh, yes, that was more like it. Never again, thought SpringTooth, would he feel quite this powerful. He lunged easily at the beast, and he was capable. He was strong. He was talented. He lifted his chin and didn't, quite, get to the point of roaring. Perhaps another week in this place, and he'd be pounding on his chest. Of course, it was up to someone else to decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing. This monster was holding its own a bit better; struck at him faster, with more fury, than any of the others had, up to this point. By now, everything else he had fought had been reduced to a pile of mush, without SpringTooth even having to draw in a deep breath. He was over-confident, yes, but only because up to now he'd been doing so well. And so he panted, narrowed his eyes, and took after it with renewed strength. There was no way he was going to lose, that was for certain. Just because it was giving him a harder time didn't mean he wasn't still a gryphon. The candy was on its last leg -- and while SpringTooth was looking a bit wobbly, he wasn't even feeling that week. His card said he still had more than a third of a way to go before he died, and he didn't plan on finding out what happened then. Not ever, but especially not now. One more attack. This one would end it all. A might blow shattered the candy, splintering into no-longer-sentient pieces. SpringTooth drew in deep, heavy breaths, and yes, he was definitely a bit woozy, now. Woozy, but pleased, eyes firey as he reached down to grab one of those pieces of candy and, without fear, shove it into his mouth. He bit down. He chewed slowly, savage, without thinking about the fact that until a moment ago this candy had been alive, and that eating in this place often had negative consequences. He moved to collect his reward. ...another card. He was still recovering from the battle, breathing heavy, eyebrows knitted, as he scowled down at it -- and then, slowly, relaxed. Well, this was new. He didn't even know they came this powerful. He'd take it and go, done for now. Find something less, well, stressful. ______________ Quest Completed!
