Character Name: Kallan "Kal" Zarkhan
Race: Dovaa
Gender: Female
Clan: Undecided (Ayrala)
Class: Battler
Appearance: My turn down the catwalk, huh? Just take a look at my boyish figure and my-don't look there you perv! I don't care if I look flat there; that's no excuse for your dishonorable act. Go drown in the abyss! I might not look strong, but I can move swiftly and agility is on my side. Most of the time. We'll pretend I'm not a klutz, okay..?
Kal wears clothing that is a bit too large for her. They will be temple themed, but slightly altered for her active lifestyle. Usually the clothing is black, silver, grey, & white. Doesn't like to wear anything on her feet but she'll tolerate sandals.
Her chest will bound once she gets older; she'll grow up to be basically flat enough to still be mistaken for a boy. Any scars that she might have will be due to her... enthusiastic pursuits.
Her normally pale skin is lightly tanned due to her constant playing outside in the sun. Her black hair is more like a short fuzzy "mane" that tapers to a point near the base of her neck; this will grow to her waist as she gets older. A pair of rear-sweeping silvery antler-like horns keeps the hair out of her face. Several small silver dragon-like scales frame her eyes on her cheeks and pepper her forehead, arms, & shoulders. Plate-like dragon scales are on the "upper half" of her forearms (not the underside).
She gives the impression of being like a bobcat/lynx; a tiny bundle of muscle & energy.
Personality: Should be obvious by now. Energetic? I call it enthusiasm. Prone to shifts in personality..? Yeah... probably. Just depends on my mood, really, and the situation. Just like anyone else when certain situations arise. I can't be chipper when someone does something dishonorable and lies about it to my face when I saw them do it, now can I?
Kal hides how she really feels beneath a cheerful exterior. She could be an emotional wreck inside, yet others wouldn't have a clue unless they knew her well enough to see past the emotional mask she wears. Keeping her emotions bottled up does tend to have... explosive results when she can't keep them in check any longer. This leads to unpleasant and difficult situations.
Due to her ambiguous gender appearance, Kal is friends easily with both genders. However, when either gender starts to show any feelings that are stronger than friendship... she does a "dodge/deflect" maneuver and tries to ignore what just happened. Romantic situations make her uneasy. This is possibly due to jokes/pranks played on her by other kids when she was younger; some harmless, others cruel. Kal has also witnessed the few very close friends she has being hurt by the actions of others. Due to this, she has issues trusting people to a certain extent. While she can't trust others, she can be trusted. She has a high sense of honor & loyalty ingrained into her personality due to how she was brought up. If she feels indebted to someone, she'll try to find a way to pay them back. If she sees someone visibly upset, she'll try to cheer them up. If there is someone being bullied, she'll try to stick up for them.
Biography/Background: I come from a somewhat large family of two siblings (including myself) and two parents. Kind of a full house, since we each seem to favor a different Clan. Mother is Firani, Father is Gaili, and my older bro is Peisio. I feel the wind calling me, so it's the Ayrala Clan for me!
Father is some kind of Scribe. I think at one point in his youth he could have become a warrior but something caused him to be mildly crippled. Basically he's no longer a viable option as a warrior, but his injury doesn't hinder his everyday life. Mother is a teacher, which is a bit of a nightmare when it interferes with life at home. Keep school at school. Urgh. My brother is working as an accountant for some high-end store.
Oh right. You'll probably want to know their names, right? Father is Tenka, Mother is Mirari, and big brother is Ryuchi.
What Kal is forgetting to mention is that her entire family runs a small temple dedicated to the Dovaa's god, Abronaxus. Kal is a bit of an embarrassment to her mother. Her father is more relaxed about it and doesn't mind how his daughter behaves as long as it isn't dishonourable. Her brother is basically set to inherit running the temple, so Kal doesn't really feel any need to be "perfect". She does resent the constant scolding by her mother. Due to her mother being hard on both her children, Kal keeps her emotions bottled up inside. Every time in the past that she tried to express how she really felt, it only ended up badly for her.
Some of the other temple residents are used to her behavior and reflexively adjust what they were doing to avoid mishaps. One of them is Reikonji, and he has become a close friend of Kal's. He has helped her out of more than one situation in the past that would have resulted in a harsh scolding & punishment from her mother had she found out. Kal sees Reikonji as another brother and feels bad whenever something happens to him when it was her fault. She strives to be better so he won't get in trouble because of her actions.
Temple life is usually peaceful when Kal isn't running around playing games with the other children. Her duties, when someone manages to find her, are rather simple. She is to help keep the gardens maintained. This includes the walkways, ponds, and any other features they have. Her father came up with this idea, since he knew this would best suit Kal's personality. Having her work indoors doing "boring" tasks would only make things difficult for everyone. He also figured it would be a good learning experience, working with the actual world of Magesc and not just dusty old scrolls. She was already cooped up inside with the other temple children during school hours, so this arrangement worked out well for everyone involved.
Provided she doesn't fall out of a tree again...
Thoughts on the Great Engagement: Fighting over... what, exactly..? This is just all so stupid. Every race has their own abilities and are vital for maintaining balance in the world. So very stupid... saying one is superior to the other. Tch. Some kinds of fighting is fine, but for supremacy of a world..? I just don't understand. Get over it. Just live in the now, and hope for the future. The past is over.
Kal doesn't like senseless fighting; she sees it as slaughtering innocent lives. The energy and lives wasted could have been used for something more productive, like making Magesc into a better world. She doesn't like how the other races' gods sought supremacy and wished they could've been content to rule as equals, finding a way to cohabitate and compromise.
Thoughts on the Magescian Races: I think they're all grand! Variety is vital to keep the world fresh. If everything was the same, it'd be boring. It would stagnate. And stagnation means death. Some of 'em are kinda freaky/scary, but hey. That's part of their race. Can't condemn them all because of a petty eons-long war, right?
Kal was raised by fairly open-minded parents who wish to maintain the peace. Views of superiority are not tolerated within the temple compound, nor their own abode. They try to keep to the doctrine their race was originally created for. Peace, balance, and "neutrality". However, do not mistake them for pacifists.
Due to how she was raised, Kal has adopted their views on other races. While she doesn't like how most of the Oblivionites and Orderites act, she tries not to condemn the entire race just because of a few individuals. Everyone is different, and they don't always stick to the stereotype of their race.
Thoughts on the Dragons and Khehora: Give me your bloody wings right now I wanna fly. Yes, I kinda idolize 'em... nothin' wrong with that. They're pretty damn cool. And I wish I had a tail...
As badly as Kal wants to fly, she has issues with heights...
