Tekken is my all time fav. Soul Calibur is okay, but the way the stories are told, sucks.
In a way, I sorta agree. Ever since Soul Edge (Which is what started it all), they have really gotten a little worse each time.
(This next comment sorta does away with 3D, but still making a point)
Course, Take a look at the story for Street Fighter. First it's just a story about Street Fighters from around the world, then Street Fighter II brings a whole new set of characters with abilities that are interesting an unique to each character. Then they make Street Fighter Alpha, so now we go back in time a little so that we get to understand (Confuse...) the story a little bit as well as bring back some familiar faces (Gen, Birdie, although Birdie seems a little slower than he was in Street Fighter [Fighting Streets])
And can't forget how the story of King Of Fighters is beyond understanding... Originally the story of Art Of Fighting and Fatal Fury. (2 seperate stories) Course, notice that they use Wolfgang Van Kaiser (Rugal) as the last boss for quite a number of versions, but then later, they get a new character in there that I have not heard of.
Tekken has been pretty consistant with their story. Heihochi Mishima forcefully inflicts nothing but negative emotions into Kazuya (His son) so that Kazuya will enharit the blood of the demon. (Incase you have not really understood, Heihochi throw Kazuya off a cliff when he was 8yo (Or so...) In doing so, Kazuya was about to die. But, before he was about to die, he made a deal with the devil. He asked for life so that he could get revenge. In doing so, it changed his blood and overall DNA of Kazuya. This was Heihochi's plan so that Kazuya would fall in love and create a newborn baby with the blood of the demon. This is the reason why they feud so much, although that's also due to being a spoiled rich punk to. (Really Heihochi is the spoiled punk while Kazuya actually earned what he got, since Heihochi pretty much kicked him out to prove his theory, so in a way I feel for Kazuya)
