Raze didn't usually do very well with down time. She was on cool down for mob fights and the side quests were either finished or not very appealing to her at the moment. It should have been her cue to log out but then again, this was all a dream, wasn't it? If she woke up, it meant she'd be gone and then she'd miss out on the upcoming updates to the game!
It was a sucky prospect so she stuck around and resorted to just wandering aimlessly with her little lupia minipet trotting after her. Finally she decided enough was enough and figured she could go to the tavern map and then what? Ah, ********, she had already changed maps and was striding into the tavern like she owned the place. Hey, sometimes, you just gotta have a thick face and RazerHead was sure she had one of those.
She thought about sending Ch33p or B.B. a message to hang out for some girl time, but then she also thought about sending Cap'n Dread a message too. Closing her eyes, she let her finger decide to invite whoever.xkalindara < TO Dreadpirate: Heyah, I'm in the tavern place thing. Wanna hang out or swap stories and stuff? I'll buy you a drink. > Raze wished she hadn't added the drink bit, she thought it made her sound desperate rather than generous. Oh well, here's hoping Dread didn't take it the wrong way.

Dreadpirate was travelling between sections when his pocket menu thing starts beeping. There's a flashing icon that says he has a new message. He frowns, then shrugs. He hadn't seen that feature before - maybe he needed to take some time to check all the functions on the completely-not-a-mobile-phone-nobody-sue device.
A message from RazerHead. He's surprised. He hasn't got anything pressing on right now, and he hasn't spent any real time in the tavern yet. It won't hurt to relax for a while.
< To RazerHead: Sure, I'll head over. See you shortly. >
As he makes his way to the tavern, he reminds himself that Raze is a civilian. He'll have to watch his tongue, make sure that no Hunter or monster talk slips out that doesn't relate to the dream-game.
It isn't hard to spot the feathered hat when he walks in. He hasn't seen many other Gryphons in the game, actually, not compared to a class like Cheshire Cats. Maybe the dream-game is loaded with Gryphons and their paths just haven't crossed yet... but right now in the tavern, they have the only two feathered pirate hats.
"Hello, Raze," he says before taking a seat. "How's the game been treating you?"

Raze didn't have to wait long, as it seemed he was online at the moment. The idea that someone could be offline in a dream-game sounded... not quite right to her but she wasn't really one for deep thoughts.
As such, she was busy studying the menu the tavern had to offer before she heard movement and a greeting coming from her blind spot. Turning so that her good eye could see, she gave her fellow Gryphon a grin before making a very sloppy salute and a teasing greeting of, "Yo, Cap'n!" Leaning against the counter, she took the opportunity to study him, or rather his avatar, "It's been weird, but then again, what do you expect from an Alice in Wonderland themed game? You do any of the mob fights?" she asked, wondering just how lucky his loot haul had been. So far, she didn't get much and wasn't very happy with it.

"Weird is the running theme," he agrees. That and soul-sucking. So many areas of illusions drawing out memories of the past he'd prefer not to deal with. It's tiring. Though all the battles can't have helped.
"Yeah, I've done a handful of the mob fights. And then went through the dungeons with some groups. They can be tough, but there's some good experience and loot in there." It's also good to spend some time around other people. Being alone for too long in this place will just make people crazy. Or crazier, in some cases.
"I see you found a friend," he nods to the Lupia. None of his minipets are summoned right now, but he's finding them useful.

Raze listened and visibly brightened when he talked about the dungeons and the possibility for better loot and experience. she was all smiles now and wondering if she should ask the two other people on her friendlist if they would take a stroll down a dungeon with her.
Idly, she motioned to the Lupia and its animation kicked in: tail wagging and soft yipping before it returns back to its default sit. "It's pretty cute, whoever came up with it. Though I was expecting it to do damage instead of healing. Feels weird for it to literally lick my wounds," she chuckled. "But Wonderland, yeah?"
Here she seemed to look troubled when she asked, "Hey did you do the Lake side quest? Or the latest Main Quest yet?"

"I'd offer to help with the dungeons, but it won't let you in with mixed faction party members," he says with regret. The icon next to her name in his Friendslist is red, and he suspects she'll see a white cage next to his on her own player card menu device. "They're worth doing, though." He hasn't used the Lupia in battle yet, but grimaces to hear that Raze's has been licking her wounds to heal them. "I mostly use the March Hare," he offers, "but I picked up another one recently that has better attack stats. Otokoyo?" He sounds the name out. Minor mistake, as the pet in question appears, wagging multiple tails. He jerks, then sighs. "Dismissed." It doesn't look bothered by the accidental summoning or being sent back so quickly. "I'm still getting used to all these voice commands." He runs a hand through his bangs. "The Lake? Oh, with the trippy fog." That was the best way he could describe it without talking about magic or supernatural things or how they all might be connected to machines right now that could poke and prod certain areas of the brain. "If you didn't like that, don't go see the Caterpillar. His smoke is worse." The latest main quest... He shudders. "Yeah, just came from being the Jabberwocky's lunch. Took a few tries, but the EXP and loot were good. If you're after experience, it's good - doesn't rely on your level to win. Endless Forest gives great experience, too." Even if it had taken him forever to solve the puzzle at the end. Huni Pi on sporadically via mobile

"Aw, what? That sucks," she made a face at discovery dungeon parties were faction-restricted. Mostly because she hasn't met any of her fellow Reds. But just to make sure, she did a check on her friendlist and sure enough, everyone listed had a white cage beside their name.
she grumbled. Her mood was lifted slightly when Dread accidentally called out his Otokoyo, she had just enough time to coo at it, "Awwww, who's a widdle cutie?" before it was dismissed. She would have gotten it even if its attack stats weren't better if only because it was super cute.
"I couldn't make heads or ******** tails of that forest quest. No wonder it was labeled challenging. And yeaaaaaaaaaaah, I thought about doing the Caterpillar one but damn, I could hear my brain cells sizzling just from entering that map," she shuddered. "Although is it just me or..." she trailed off, as if unsure if she should continue with her train of thought.
Then she shook her head upon deciding to plow on anyway, mind-altering trippy-fog aside, Raze doesn't back down from nothing! (The Jabberwock quest had proven that.) "It can't be just me that thinks there's something ******** creepy about this game. Like, how the hell did whoever made those quests manage to get you to see those mem-erm, visions? Some of them, I dunno, some of them hit way too close to home for ******** comfort."
Hearing her mother's voice calling her in the ******** game and then finding out it was just the Jabberwock's technique pissed her off. The mere thought of it had her instinctively unsheating her gryphon-claws on the counter.

He guesses the reason for her 'that sucks' is similar to his own initial reaction. "I didn't know anyone from my faction, either. The first time I was just doing recon and someone invited me into their party. For the second dungeon, I left an invitation here in the tavern." Either people were really friendly here or everyone was in the same boat, not knowing many people. "Was it that you got literally lost in the forest, or stumped by the puzzle at the end?" Personally, he'd had no problems following the signs, but puzzles were not his thing. He'd been surprised to find the correct answer. He had his suspicions about how their memories were being accessed, but didn't think a civilian would believe him. Or understand how he got that knowledge without having to talk about being a Hunter and pods and golems and... yeah. Let's not have someone try to commit him inside a dream-game. "It's very creepy," he agrees. It is. "I'll lodge a complaint to the makers after we finish."

That definitely settles it, Raze was going to bite the bullet and put herself out there! Hey, who knows, maybe she'll get an invite and would finally get to go into one of those dungeons!
She made a face at the memory of the forest, "Didn't get turned around too much but that puzzle at the end? Yeah, it definitely was a killer." she nodded solemnly, she herself was unsure how she stumbled on the answer. Dumb luck took pity on her then, maybe.
"There'd better be a feedback form at the end of this thing and it better have a huge-a** comments section. I got a lot to say about some of the things they're doing," she grinned without humor.
Her mood didn't improve much, even with Dread's agreement that the whole dream-game felt creepy. If she was the more philosophical type, she would have asked him if he believed he was real, or if she was real since this whole game was supposed to be a dream. And how was it possible for minds to mingle with each other unless everyone is merely a construct of one's imagination and other metaphysical considerations.
But that s**t was too deep for Raze to even consider thinking about drunk as skunks, let alone sober. Speaking of which, she motioned to the drinks menu. "Anyway, here we are yakkin' it up without so much as buying something. That's shitty bar-behavior if there isn't a cover charge." With an elbow propped atop the counter, she rested her cheek against the back of her hand, "So order up! I did promise to buy you a drink."kalindara Raze promises she's not out to get you drunk, Cap'n.

Davey nods. He doesn't like puzzles. Or riddles, either. He grimaces at the memory of the Cheshire Cat's quest. "I prefer the quests for things I can hit," he says. They're much easier. He orders from the menu - everything has strange names, cocktails or shots of some kind named after the NPCs or character classes. For the sake of being consistent, he orders the 'gryphon' shot. It looks fairly standard, unlike some of the others. "I wonder if it's even possible to get drunk," he wonders. Quickly, he adds, "Not that I want to test that out, but considering the mechanics of it being a game..." And a dream. He isn't sure how much Raze has worked out about where she is or how she got here, but if she only thinks it's a dream, in her dream the other players would only think it was a game... See how confusing this gets? This is why he prefers to attack things. He chuckles at the idea of feedback after this. Not that there aren't things he would like to say to his bosses - if they are the ones behind this - but he wouldn't actually dare. Things could always be worse at Deus HQ, no matter how bad they already seem. And there's an equally good chance that this is supernatural in origin and the Hunters have just been called in to protect civilians like Raze. "I'd like to know whose name I should be cursing," is all he has to add in the end. When his drink arrives, he takes a mouthful. He sets it down and regards it carefully. That actually tastes very much like scotch. Bad scotch, but still incredible accurate. "How's yours taste?" he asks Raze. "That's closer to the real thing than I was expecting."

The real world felt very far away for Raze. She could wake up from this dream, log-out at any time she wanted, couldn't she? No clue as to where she really was and what was really going on, but that sense of dread, the niggling suspicion that there was more to this than what they were told. But she didn't want to come off as some weirdo who didn't get enough fresh air and instead ignored it.
Raze had already scanned through the menu before Dread arrived and ordered the Painted Roses drink when her turn came. And what arrived was the pinkest-looking drink she had ever seen. Yes, even pinker than her first bicycle that she had to beg her parents to buy her for her tenth birthday. Grinning like a cheshire cat as it was served, she took a big swig rather than the dainty sip such a drink seemed to call for.
"Huh, tastes like a Shirley Temple," she shrugged, not really disappointed but she wasn't sure if she should be pleased that she ended up with a mocktail. "I was actually expecting red-colored white wine."
She mused for a moment then turned to her fellow gryphon, as if picking up a strand of the conversation she had not noticed earlier. "What do you mean by "name you should be cursing"? I don't think I've ever heard that said before," she added.

"Did I say it strangely?" Dreadpirate thinks back and frowns. "Who to swear at, or curse to hell, or whatever. I like to know who to blame for things." Because Dr H was a fantastic fallback target (and chances were high he was at least slightly involved in anything that went wrong for any Hunter, but especially for Davey) but he liked to be sure. And if there were people out there who could do this without the Division Leaders being aware? Then he really needed to know. They all did. "So you've said before that you're not normally a gamer, you like outside activities." He won't ask what she's doing playing this one, then, because for all she knows this is a weird dream. "What do you normally do, then?" He keeps his face as straight as possible, but there's still an odd gleam in his eye as he asks, "Ever been hunting?"

She looked thoughtful, "Nah, not strange. I think your phrase was just one of those colonialisms. Like the way some people call soft drinks soda and other pop." She didn't show any sign she knew she using the wrong term to refer to colloquialism as she continued on with the rest of their conversation, "Usually I'm out riding my bike, or playing sports. I especially like extreme sports," she grinned, her good eye twinkling in excitement.
Before she could continue about a recent trick she was trying to learn, Dread brought up the topic of hunting. Well, that felt like it came from out of left field. But then again, just because hunting wasn't a common activity where she lived doesn't mean other people weren't into that. "Erm, the only hunting I was ever involved in was when my friends and I went camping in the mountains. Wild chickens are apparently mean mother ********> she half-laughed and half-shuddered at the memory. "I'm guessing you go on hunting trips a lot?"

"I think you mean--" he begins and then pauses. "Nevermind. Yeah, you might be right. There are so many language differences even if we're speaking the same language. Even within the same country." As far as he knows, the soda/pop debate is a mostly American one.
He'd wondered if the mention of hunting would trigger a memory, but it seems not. He supposes if she is in the pods right now, then she won't be allowed to remember certain things - on the island, he hadn't remembered a thing about himself, let alone being recruited by the Hunters.
"Sometimes," he hedges. "I'm not a big fan of hunting innocent animals for sport. Only if someone's in danger."
He chuckles at the wild chickens.
"So what sorts of extreme sports do you like?"

Raze nodded, "Hunting for food is one thing, hunting for the fun of it? That's just sick." the distaste was unmistakable on her face, and there was a strong sense of a personal vendetta edging her feelings although she couldn't figure out why. She'd never really been a target for bullying, she had no trouble standing up for herself and fighting back. So why did the idea of being hunted piss her off so much?
Claws and shadows. Body twisting in the air. Blood pooling.
Hastily, she took a deeper swig of her drink and began to choke when she tried to talk and swallow at the same time. Poised and graceful she was not even in her dreams.
